Alex Brown has experience as an MBA admissions officer, an MBA admissions consultant, a teacher, an author and a marketing consultant.

Brown spent seven years as a senior associate director at UPenn / Wharton, reading thousands of applications, interviewing hundreds of candidates, and providing hundreds of denied candidates their feedback on their applications. Brown worked for a total of 14 years as an MBA admissions officer in the industry, during which time he also spent seven years as an instructor in the Professional Development Program for the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC), teaching new admissions officers who were entering the industry. Brown has also presented at many GMAC conferences.

Subsequent to Brown’s time at Wharton, he spent two years as a senior admissions counselor for Clear Admit. More recently he has spent three years as a consultant for Southwark Consulting, focusing on the MBA admissions industry. Brown is a frequent contributor to BeattheGmat and /r/MBA (reddit). He also oversees MBA LiveWire and MBA DecisionWire for Clear Admit, while also providing other services to Clear Admit through his work with Southwark Consulting.

Brown has also spent more than 20 years as an adjunct professor, teaching marketing-related classes at the University of Delaware. He is the author of an award winning book (unrelated to MBA admissions) and wrote for the Cecil Whig newspaper for a number of years. Brown also contributed for several years to the New York Times’ The Rail, an award winning horse racing blog, as its most prolific writer.
