Bio
I was born many moons ago in a little place called Fulton, Kentucky. My family moved from Kentucky to the Northern Virginia area when I was only 6 years old however my heart remains in the State of Kentucky. My mother was also born and raised in Kentucky with an inborn love for horses. My father was an avid horse racing fan so, between both of them, I was raised from the word go with a love for both the horses and the sport of horse racing. I have many happy memories of going to the race track with my father and also watching the horses run on TV. I can recall, just like it was yesterday, watching Secretariat run. During Secretariat's two year old campaign my father told me with unwavering confidence that Secretariat was the greatest horse to ever set four hooves in the track. He told me to be sure and keep my eye on Secretariat because the horse would make history. Boy was he ever right!! Since then I have seen many great and wonderful horses race but none of them has ever had the impact on me that Secretariat did.
Horse experience
I have never been lucky enough to own my own horse although that is a dream of mine. I was around horses for a good part of my younger life and I used to ride as often as I could. At this point in my life I'm not sure if I will ever be fortunate enough to have my own horse but I will never let go of that dream. I now live in Romney, West Virginia and, if the Good Lord allows it, perhaps one day my dream of horse ownership will come true although I'm sure that it will be more a case of the horse owning me and my heart than me owning a horse.
FOB activities
I try my best to help as many rescues and horses as I possibly can on ABR and everywhere else. As I am unfortunately not able to financially contribute a great deal I try to help out in other ways by supporting various threads, cheerleading, posting photos, and helping in any other way that I can help. I belong to the WVA/VA Citizens Working To Put An End To Horse Slaughter call group and I make calls and send emails as often as I can. I have also started a MySpace page and blog to try and spread the word in order to educate people on the horrific practice of horse slaughter and also to enlist their help and support to pass the legislation that will end this barbaric practice.
I have also contacted Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue regarding their horse guardianship program and I am looking forward to being able to help in that way also.
FOB Network
I have communicated with and tried to help many of the rescues on ABR including but not limited to Lifelines Farm & Sanctuary and Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue. I also support The Exceller Fund, CANTER and many other organizations and individuals who work endlessly to save the horses, ensure the horses' safety and well being and also share my belief and commitment in the AHSPA.
