I have been doing private rescue for a little over 10 years now. We have lived in Phelan for 3 years now and prior to that we had horses in Beaumount, California, the low Desert. Due to the housing boom in Beaumont, we were zoned out of horses, hence the move to Phelan. Prior to doing equine rescue, I worked as a Purchasing Agent for a large glass company in Santa Fe Springs, CA.
I am in my 50's and cannot imagine not having horses in my life. I grew up in Olympia, Washington on a ranch. My father and grandfather always had horses and did most of their own vet work, which the knowledge was passed on to me. I know what I can and what I cannot handle and believe me am well awarre of my limitations. I had a wonderful vet in Banning, Ca named Dr. Mart, when he retire from equine care, he agreed to still do farm calls for me and if needed when I cannot get a vet up here, I will trailer the 75 miles to him. We are vet poor up here. There are 2 who are really from out of this area, but will come up here 2 to 3 days per week, no emergency calls, etc. I do use Wayne Martini when needed.
The feed store closest to me is Desert Feed, which is about 4 miles away. I always deal with Leslie there, as she is the most knowing and helpful (760) 868-5052
I am married with 3 adult children and 8 grandchildren, all live an hour away.
My rescue is not the prettiest, but it is functional, clean and safe. The horses are all well cared for and loved.
