Description of Rescue

Our Special Discussion/Talk page: [Talk Page]

Include: Corporate Status - 501(c)3; California Corporation

Location - Anza, CA - Between Temecula and Palm Desert in Southern California;

Size - Currently 29 horses; Casey O'Connor is only person - does all cleaning, feeding, obtaining of feed and vet and farrier services, etc.

Years of Operations - operated informally for 3 years, became 501(c)3 in 1998;

Type of Rescue TGC provides a forever home for older and manageably disabled horses and ponies. In addition, Casey works to find homes for younger more able horses either abanoned by their owners or purchased by other rescues from feedlots/auctions;

Fostering procedures - Don't do that. Did offer facilities for use by homeless fire victims.

Adoption policies: Don't adopt TGC horses, but when placing horses for others, will require a contract/agreement by new owner that TGC gets the horse back if it doesnt' work out, when applicable;

Source of Horses - most TGC horses come from owners; many horses placed were abandoned at local shelters; and will work with those who buy from auctions to place those horses;

Visitor hours - always welcome visitors - just call first so I can be here to let you in.

Volunteer information - don't get much but can always use help with stall cleaning and repair, and grooming and exercising the horses - I'll give riding lessons for work. No horses are ridden off property.

Education programs: Offered but so far not needed. I've spoken with two girlscout troops and one school program who expressed interested, but never followed through. I've offered to teach the basics of horse care; riding; and advanced information about senior horses, to anyone who wants to come. In part, a fairly remote location makes this difficult...
