Talk:The Golden Carrot Equine Retirement
From AlexBrownRacing
The holidays oddly are often a hard time of the year for The Golden Carrot Equine Rescue/Retirement in Southern California. Along with summertime, I think disposable income is allocated to vacations, gift-giving, parties, new clothes etc.
This last summer was painfully low in donations at the Golden Carrot, and I, as founder and jack of all trades here, picked up the slack with my own income and credit cards. I lost two sponsors (for $100 a month less), and donations were about a third of normal for four whole months. With a resident population of 30 horses, even my income and a slight increase in donations in the fall was having a hard time getting caught up. So now, already, the holidays are here, donations are falling again, and this time I lost three weeks income due to lack of work, and my credit cards are still burdened almost to the max.
Can some horses here at Golden Carrot get some love? I'm standing here, hat in hand, actually asking for money for feed and medicines! I spend at least $500 a week to feed the horses and need to get more feed on Thursday. I've got three horses currently using 2 bute per day to help with old injuries (recently adjusted, but still healing). And my feed supplier reluctantly told me feed prices are going up yet again next week. My website is listed here, and at www.thegoldencarrot.org you can see the horses here, as well as the information for Outlaws of Hay and Grain (my feed store) in case you'd rather send money directly there. Remember however, money donated to The Golden Carrot is tax deductible as we are a 501(c)3. Plus, if you donate to Harlan or Russ at the Outlaws you need to let me know - it would be just like them to forget .... They are NOT dishonest, far from it. Just scattered! "-) In addition, on the website you can use the Please Help link to make a credit card donation.
I can use your help. Any amount will make a difference - if only 100 people send $5 I can feed all these horses for another week. And you will not give a gift more appreciated, as those of you who have seen/heard a horse happily munching at their feed bucket will know!
Thank you for considering the Golden Carrot in your holiday gift giving - or for telling others of our need. I speak for these older and disabled horses when I say THANK YOU! Casey O'Connor
