I am a retired school teacher from Northeast Ohio. I live on a five acre farm with my two Jack Russell Terriers, Bella and Gracie. After 35 years of teaching senior high school students, I am now embarking on educating myself in all areas of the horse industry. I now have the time to do what I want to do and give back a little to the horses who have given so much to me over the years. I love to collect things. I have an extensive Seabiscuit, Secretariat and now Barbaro collection. I also love Amish quilts, the old ones, and antiquing. I taught a film class in high school and I am a movie buff who adores Steven Spielberg.

Horse experience

I bought my first horse the day I got my teaching job. His name was Gannon and he was a nine year old Percheron/Thoroughbred event horse. He was the best, a big grey full of dark grey dapples. He taught me to hunt and jump and basic dressage. He was the best trail horse. Two years later I bought April Pride a registered half quarter horse/half thoroughbred. She was a fiery chestnut who basically went to shows in halter divisions and just looked good. She was trained as a hunter and I showed Gannon and April over a ten year period. They both lived to be in their thirties. They are now buried in their pasture under apple trees planted just for them. I have not been able to get another horse because of my osteo/rheumatoid arthritis. So now I am helping horses who need help and getting my daily fix of horses through TWR. I was the little girl who always dreamed of horses, and I don't think I ever grew up.

FOB activities

I have been very active in organizing the MO Horse Heroes fundraisers. Since Christmas we have raised almost 20,000 dollars for them. They were involved in a horrific accident on I-44 in Missouri. We had a Christmas, Valentine, Easter and Mother's Day fund raisers so far and now I am working on a Father's Day fundraiser for Mr. Roy Jackson. These horses have been through so much and they shine like a beacon of hope for all horses in need. They are all miracles to be here today. I am totally commited to them until they all have forever homes. I also help with other rescues like MHR and Second Chance. I am also part of the Ohio Herd, working to close the slaughter houses in America. Every FOB activity that comes along, I try to participate in, whether it is the bench for New Bolton, Dr. Richardson, Michael Matz, Eduardo, and now Edgar Prado's birthday. There is a lot to be involved in as a Fan of Barbaro. I contribute steadily to New Bolton's Friends of New Bolton, the Barbaro Fund and the fund for Laminitis research.

FOB Network

I have been privileged to meet so many wonderfully generous Fans of Barbaro through the MO Horse Heroes fund raisers. These folks come back month after month to support these horses. They are generous and giving people, who not only give to the MO Horses but other rescues as well. I see their names over and over again. I feel that I have become a better person for meeting these people through Barbaro and the MO Horse Heroes. From California to Panama, my world has enlarged because of the wonderful people I have met. I feel I am "home" when I log on to TWR. ShelleyA has opened up a world of racing to me through her horses. Her enthusiasm for ending horse slaughter this year is contagious. Wendy and her photo journals make me feel like I am at events like the Kentucky Derby and of course, Alex has opened up a whole wonderous world to all of us.
