Description of Rescue

SCTR is a tax exempt 501(c)(3)charity, EIN 26-3166279, and California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation C3151037. The specific purpose of SCTR is to acquire thoroughbred ex-racehorses in Southern California that are at risk of slaughter, abuse, and neglect, and to rehabilitate, transition, and rehome them. SCTR typically purchases at livestock auctions ex racehorses arriving from racetracks and breeding farms, and cares for them until a permanent custodial or retirement home is found. SCTR also works to educate the public on responsible horse ownership and breeding practices.

We are developing a primary facility for our horses on a private five acre farm, and also utilize a number of foster homes, in the high desert and inland empire regions of Southern California. Currently, we have seven rescued thoroughbreds available for permanent rehoming, and ten that are in earlier stages of rehabilitation. We offer temporary rehabilitation and retraining only, and are not currently in a position to permanently retire ex-racehorses.

Prospective foster and permanent homes must complete an application form, which will be sent to you by email upon request at sctbrescue@live.com. We adopt out our horses with a conditional transfer of ownership agreement, following site checks, reference and backgound checks.
