Basics
Tell them, that, to ease them of their griefs,
Their fear of hostile strokes, their aches, losses...
In life’s uncertain voyage,
I will some kindness do them.

[edit]Description of Rescue
Federally Recognized 501(c)(3) Non Profit, Shiloh Charitable Trust
Location: Sandy Valley, NV (On the CA/NV border), about 30 miles south of fabulous Las Vegas, NV
Size: 40 acre Ranch, includes six stall barn, ten stall Mare Motel, Isolation area, numerous arenas and round pens, numerous turn outs, large pastures and individual corrals
Years of Operations: Since September 2002, Jill Curtis Graduate "A" Pony Clubber, life long horse woman
Type of Rescue: Shiloh regularly attends slaughter auctions throughout the West, out bids the Killers, rehabs the horses and eventually adopts them out to new loving homes. Shiloh regularly rescues horses off of feedlots. Shiloh also accepts unwanted, abused, neglected, injured, and older horses from the community (as well as from CA and AZ). All horses are evaluated and either adopted out into new homes or placed into our Sanctuary to live out their lives in comfort and dignity. Shiloh also works with the local Animal Control, Shiloh takes in the confiscated horses and rehabs them.
Fostering procedures: From time to time, Shiloh does foster horses out into loving homes. We recently fostered out five pregnant feedlot mares to families and individuals in the surrounding community. These mares gave birth to healthy foals, all of whom will be eventually adopted by their foster families once they have been weaned from their mothers.
Adoption policies: Shiloh Horses are only adopted out into safe and qualified homes. Per our adoption contract, horses can never be sold at auction, horses can always return to Shiloh at anytime, adopter must provide adequate shelter, feed, exercise, vet and farrier care. Adopter's must update Shiloh regularly with information and photographs. For more information, Shiloh's adoption form is posted on our website.
Source of Horses: Auctions (primary source), feedlots, community, Animal Control
Operating procedures: Volunteers and Visitors are always welcome- Shiloh gates are always open. We have many wonderful volunteers who help feed, clean corrals, groom and bathe the horses, turn out horses, perform ranch maintanence, etc. We encourage visitors to bring carrots and wander the ranch meeting all of the animals.
Shiloh Horse Rescue works with local schools, community groups, Church Groups, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Pony Club, and others to educate people about horse slaughter and horse rescue. We regularly have group activities and events at the ranch.

[edit]Feedback from FOBs
From volunteers who have visited the rescue etc which may include relevant links to the discussion board about the visit.
I have not visited, but I had to post a comment that Shiloh has been such an important part of the FOB story. They even celebrated Barbaro's b-day with us. My favorite story is the one about Galt. He was OTTB that his trainer wanted to give to a nice home vs. sending to slaughter. Shiloh stepped up immediately and arranged to have him transported to their ranch. He has since been adopted.
