Horse experience
NOT ENOUGH!!!
I have always loved horses... ever since I knew what one was! There was a field next to my elementary school, and I'd spend most of recess picking grass and feeding the two or three horses that lived there.
I always asked for a horse of my own... every Birthday, Christmas, First Star... it didn't matter... any excuse would do! Alas... it has never happened! I have had the money / opportunity several times to PURCHASE one... but until I have my own land, and the finances to keep one RIGHT... it will have to wait. SIGH.
I was able to take Hunter / Jumper lessons in Jr.High for a brief time... those were some of the BEST days! My favorite lesson horse was named "Crusher"... A BIG chestnut... he got his name for the habit of crushing unsuspecting riders up against the rail during their lesson. Very few folks liked to ride him. But I did! Another one was a liver chestnut namedn "Unanimous". "Uni" was a barn favorite! I never got to ride in a show... but my nerves wouldn't have made it anyway!
Since then, I have done barn work for several barns in the Triangle area of NC. One was a lesson / show barn with Arabians and Saddlebreds mostly. One was a private barn with only a handful of horses. My favorite one was a training barn whose owner did some Qttr horse breeding. He had 2 stalliions of his own (both Qtrs) and one boarding stallion that was a Polish Arabian by the name of "Sudonym". "Sudi" was my favorite! He was one of the "purchase opportunities" I have had... his owner skipped town without taking him, or paying back-board for him! So the owner was looking to geld him and sell him. DANG... if only I had the month-to-month $$ needed to support a horse, he would have been MINE before you could BLINK!! Alas... it was not to be! I really enjoyed working there... even though my job was "Head Pooper-Scooper"... hay... I'll do just about ANYTHING to even be around horses!! Getting $ for it is just an added BONUS! It's been more than 10 years since then... but I still try and keep in touch with the owners when I can!
