577433095_f604c0cac9_m.jpg Little Jackie Paper loves that rascal Puff. Yesterday Jackie left us to be a companion to Puff, an older quarter horse gelding. Puff recently lost his long time mate, and Little Jackie Paper is just what the doctor ordered. We called her Jackie, but her new owner is calling her Little Jackie Paper. There is green grass and shade, and from a nearby produce stand is an endless supply of carrots. Jackie has been with us for more than 5 years. Feeding supper last night, and how strange not to see her in the north field. But Jackie is now living in paradise, and good for her...

Then and now. Our friend Melanie Padilla adopted Houston during Christmas, 2005. Melanie and Houston do everything together, including camping trips. Below on the left is the day Melanie met Houston, and below on the right is yesterday.

Flaming Al, who I love like mad, will soon be leaving us for an event barn. His new owner is Maddie Taylor.

I know the other day I showed you a picture of Maddie Taylor with one of my favorite geldings ever, Flaming Al. Yesterday was shipping day. You should have been here. It was emotional for me, more than I thought it would be, because I have been through this more than once. Saying goodbye to a horse who I looked forward to seeing first thing each morning. Flaming Al is unique. He stands quietly and listens. Flaming Al is also an athlete, and he begins a new career at an event barn. For Maddie Taylor, this is her first horse. Maddie has a job, and she takes riding lessons. She is paying all the expenses on Flaming Al. And yesterday the two stood together, and the happiness coming from Maddie lit up our ranch. Which is why I am showing you another photo.

Maddie phoned last night to say Flaming Al ran around his new home and became sweaty. Maddie gave him a bath. Her first evening with her own horse. And when I was doing late night barn check, Flaming Al was not here to hang his head over the gate. Waiting for the usual scratch. The barn radio tuned to Love Songs By Request. His stall empty, and if you dwell you crumble.

On the phone Bethany reports Crossing Borders has settled in well, and she loves him like crazy.

Then and now. Below on the left is Twin Bubbles, right before he was adopted by Nikki Martinelli in 2004. Below on the right is Twin Bubbles today. Nikki and her family love Twin Bubbles like crazy.

It is only fitting that a girl named Holly should own a gelding named Hollywood. (Seattle Slew grandson, Alydar in 3rd generation)

Two adoptions from 2006. Below on the left is little Tahnee with Dreams. Tahnee and her family adopted Dreams last August, and they recently sent us new pictures.

Below on the right is Casey and her handsome gelding Winning Streak. Casey adopted Winning Streak last October.

549568235_d262d4b783_m.jpg And big congratulations to Brenda and her family in Lodi. They have been a foster family for Micro Brew, and they have grown to love her. Micro Brew now has a forever home. Another adoption in the books, and thank you so much Brenda.

We said goodbye to Flick, and we hardly knew her. Flick was adopted by Heather in Vacaville. She will be turned out on green grass for one year, and given a chance to grow up. Flick is young and unsettled. A big giant thank you to Heather for giving her this chance. (7/1) 663378799_8de6a5f808_m.jpg

And over the weekend Blake, one of my forever favorite geldings, was adopted by Eric and Debbie of Placerville. The mare motel will feel so empty. Blake is just 3 years old, personality plus, and Eric will introduce him to trails. A big thank you to Georgia Hartman for providing the transportation. We say goodbye to Blake tomorrow.

Then and now. There were 356 adoptions in 2006, and one of them was Glittering Sands, who went to 12 year old Kacie. Earlier this week Kacie rode with friends 6 miles to our ranch. Kacie calls her Sandy, and the two have already been competing in schooling shows. When you are with them you can feel just how much Kacie loves her filly.

566753591_0e17725cb0_m.jpg Capricious One will be shipped tomorrow, and we adore him. Around our barn his name is Cap. He is 4 years old and from the race track. Cap refuses to swat a fly. One of the sweetest horses we have ever had.

An adoption from the past. Tess is with Phar From The Riot. 886283529_45c0fb1522_m.jpg

He just arrived this week, and yesterday he was adopted to a perfect new home. We said goodbye to Bog, and today we say goodbye to Twister. 188 adoptions for 2007

Jordin was recently adopted. 549529052_fd16a234dc_m.jpg

August 21, 2007... We will be saying goodbye to Dunn, who came to us last October when the slaughter truck drove up our driveway [2]. I pulled Dunn off the trailer, the only thoroughbred in the bunch, and now he will live in Newcastle on green grass and white fencing. A Hallmark postcard. Dunn will become best friends with Daisy, an older quarter horse mare who was recently rescued from an auction in Roseville. Dunn and Daisy, living like royalty. There is a 14 year old girl who is home schooled, and all day she will provide the treats. Her 12 year old sister writes us letters, which is how Dunn found his way to Daisy. Often the journey is a piece of cake...
