Bio
I am married with 2 teenage children, and we live in upper East TN on a hobby farm. I travel around the country with my job, so I do not get to spend as much with my larger animals as I would like.
I am not a part of any organization per se, I am hoping to find some assistance for my new mini Doxie. I got him about 7 weeks ago, and we've grown quite close. He started to seemingly go blind, walking the baseboards, running into the walls. AT first the vet thought it was a glucose problem, but the sugar drops didn't work after the second episode. We came to learn he has a liver shunt. I was told he would have to be put to sleep if I didn't do the surgery because all tests were off the charts. He is now scheduled for this surgery because I felt that is the right thing to do, even though it is going to be a major financial hardship.
A friend who is an active member of this group recommended I appeal to the group. She knows I'm a horse person and animal lover, and thought this would be a great place for me, even if I didn't have the need for assistance for Chester.
I have not asked my vet if he will take payment directly from 3rd parties; however, if you would like to contribute to his surgery, I would greatly appreciate it. I have a PayPal account at amtneer@yahoo.com. If you would prefer to send a contribution in another form, please email me at that address, and I will happily give an address. If you would like verification of this condition, I can also put you in contact w/ my vet upon request. Thank you, again!
Horse experience
I used to be a mounted police officer w/ Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. I greatly enjoy trail riding, and the highlight of my life was a 100 mile ride from Cades Cove, TN to Cataloochie, NC through the Great Smokey Mountains. For a short period of time, I was doing endurance racing, but had an accident w/ one of my foster horses. I was stomped and had to have my left knee rebuilt. Now I ride for leisure when time permits. I own a quarter horse, Granny, and a thoroughbred, Reno.
