MISKWA TIBIQ-KIZIS AKA MOONIE
From AlexBrownRacing
Story:
Moonie is a yearling red dun paint colt and he is incredibly sweet. He just can't get enough love and rubbing. You don't even need a treat to have him under your arm. He is going to probably be a small horse and we'll have him gelded as soon as he completes his quarantine.

UPDATES
7/10/07: Miskwa Tibiq-kizis, aka Moonie, is a true love
bug. Although he didn't like me too much after his
worming this morning. The snots have improved and
are clear now so I am hoping that he is not going
to get sick. He does have a fairly bad cough but
with any luck that is just from worms and will
clear up soon. As you can see from his pictures
he was beaten up pretty badly at the broker pen
but again these are all superficial and should
heal quickly. His feet are really bad and as soon
as his quarantine is completed he will be seeing
the farrier for a much needed trim.
7/18/07: Moonie is beginning to gain a little weight and his
ouchies are healing. This poor boy had a LOT of
ouchies. His feet are in desperate need of work
and the boy has no nurtles. He is young enough
that I do not know if he simply hasn't dropped yet
or if he is a cryptorchid. Hopefully he just
hasn't dropped. Time will tell on that
one.
7/23/07: Moonie is still snotty and still has a bit of a
cough but does not appear to be getting any worse.
He doesn't seem to feel bad but he sure is
juicy.
7/24/07: I have begun feeding Lady and Moonie hay today as
the pasture is basically dead. Please everyone
pray that we get rain soon or things are going to
get very ugly very early.
7/27/07: I want to make everyone aware that Moonie
definitely has strangles. The boy is looking
rough today. We will be keeping a close watch on
him and if his fever starts to spike we'll start
him on meds. He is still eating and drinking and
that is good news. Please everyone say a little
prayer for Moonie that he gets through this
quickly
8/03/07: Miskwa Tibiq-Kazis, aka Moonie, is an awful looking
thing. He has abcesses popping out all over his
head and bursting and draining and YUCK what a
nasty mess. If anyone plans to visit the
Walkersville campus this weekend please make that
your last stop. We are trying to be very careful
about not taking the germies to any of the other
locations.
8/08/07: Oh my this poor little guy. We are still
using your salve and the abscesses are popping but
he has 4 large and two small abscesses and they
are NASTY. One in particular is vicious looking.
I am using tea tree to help dry out the infection
and promote healing but Y-U-C-K!!! I don't know
who wants this to be over more...him or me
8/11/07: Moonie is doing a little better, I think he
finally has turned the corner, and is beginning to
heal. He still looks hideous but really is
improving. This poor little guy had quite a case
of strangles and it won't hurt his or my feelings
to never see anything like this again.
8/21/07: Poor Moonie has such a case of this nasty stuff.
He is still abscessing but is actually looking a
little bit better. He has never lost his appetite
and is gaining a little bit of weight. Amazing
resilience in this little guy. I can't wait until
he is well and we can get those feet trimmed.
8/30/07: Moonie is also doing better. I think he has
FINALLY turned the corner and there are no more
abscesses. At least that is what I am praying. He
is healing up and has actually gained some much
needed weight.
9/10/07: Maryland Lady and Moonie will be leaving
Walkersville at the end of this week for new
digs. Lady will be going to New Windsor and I
guess I'll have to bring Moonie home. Still no
sign of the little package we're all waiting for
but I'm sure it will arrive in time. Moonie is
almost healed from his ordeal with strangles and
he is looking better every day.
9/14/07: I moved Maryland Lady and Moonie from the
Walkersville campus to New Windsor this morning and
they are getting to know the rest of the herd. Lady
had her teeth floated by Dr. Kabala this morning and
he estimated her age to be closer to 20 rather than
10. Surprise, surprise. I asked him to check
Moonie and he said that he has dropped on one side
(YIPEE) but that the other side is still not down.
He also said that it felt more like a cat's than a
horse's nurtle. Eeewwww! We'll give him some more
time to see what happens but Moonie may require
surgery at Charlestown to take care of his gelding.
9/23/07: Moonie was moved to PA today to be fostered by
Kathleen and he is also settling in to his new
surroundings. He and Lady were not pleased to be
separated either.
10/26/07: Moonie, what can I say, he is quite the
charmer... A real love bug, doing very well with
his leading lessons.. respects my space and stops
when asked. He still loves his foster brother
way too much and we are working on him stayubg
alone in the field for longer and longer periods.
Yes, he must grow up just a little.. He has a
nice hay belly and is going to get a nice
winter coat.. all in all he is going to make
someone a very nice show pony. (POSTED BY
KATHPAINTS, his fostermom.)
