Bio

I am 39 years old and live in Northern California, in Marin County. I have lived here since 1979 (in the same town actually) and have seen many, many changes. I've been riding horses since the ago of two, and horses are basically my religion and my connection to spirit. I own a Friesian Gelding named Sander Van Ravensbos who is out of Tsjerk 328 and I recently adopted Espresso, who is now renamed Brego. Brego's registered name is Captain Dudley, and is the grandson of Seatlle Slew. I have loved thoroughbreds ever since I can remember, and had a massive crush on Steve Cauthen once upon a time. I have a very patient husband who puts up with my horse craziness and a son who is two years old and learning about horses through his rocking horse which he loves to ride.

I am the California Barbaro Ambassador and have a website, California Barbaro. I have also posted a couple Anti-Slaughter Videos on YouTube under the username Californiabarbaro and I am working on the third installment of my documentary on Brego, which will focus on the retraining process.

Horse experience

I have owned a Thoroughbred Quarter Horse Cross (my first horse), three Appaloosa's, two paints, one Quarter Horse and now a Friesian and an OTTB. I have been a hunter/jumper all my life but recently switched to Dressage because it's pretty hard to jump a Friesian. Dressage has been the most mind-bending transition I have ever taken, and I miss the adrenaline of jumping. Maybe one day Brego will be sound enough for a little light jumping.

The photos above show my history with horses. The first horse is Patsy, who I literally brought home one day and wanted to keep her, which led to my parents finally giving into my whining and buying Foxy. I was six. The next two photos are my Friesian gelding, Sander Van Ravensbos and finally, Brego, who arrived on June 6th at my barn. He is better known on the board as Espresso, but I've renamed him Brego. The FOB's got a great boost when an article was written in the Seattle Times, Forgotton Horses Deserve A Second Chance about Brego, Alex and the whole horse slaughter issue. Realized that there is alot of resemblance between Brego and my first horse Foxy - go figure. I have been filming my process with Brego, and have posted two video's on YouTube, the first Brego's Journey documents the process of finding him, finding who he was, and then bringing him home to California. The second video, Part Two: Healing Brego documents the process of bringing Brego back to health, including his knee surgery on August 15th, 2007.

One of the most special gifts I received from the Seattle Times article on Brego was contact from his breeder, a small Thoroughbred Breeder in British Columbia. Terry Black has a heart akin to Mrs. Jackson, and we have been staying in touch on Brego's (Dudley's - as she calls him) progress. She was kind enough to send me some photos, as Brego was one of her favorite foals. She may come for a visit in the spring, stay tuned for possible reunion info.

Here are pictures of Brego taken in December of 2007, six months after he arrived at my barn:

And this one which I couldn't resist, Brego and my two year old son, Alex - Pals for Life.... (Brego really wants that carrot)

FOB activities

I am a HUGE Fan of TBFriends and have supported Joe for quite a while. I have also supported HR Europe to save two Friesian mares, the Humane Society, The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and Days End Horse Rescue. I am desperately trying to figure out how to get land around here (it's expensive, and I mean exensive) to begin my own business. I want to teach the more subtle qualities of Leadership through the use of horses, and have a non-profit arm which acts as a foster home for TBFriends. I am currently supporting Wyatt Webb once a month and learning a lot from him.

FOB Network

All the Bay Area FOB's - met at GGF's for Barbaro's Birthday Celebration, and I adore Wendy in Michigan - who I had the pleasure of meeting when she took the most amazing photos of my Friesian.
