History

Jacob, by Risen Star, out of Bauble is a 1990 model. Jacob's sire, Risen Star, was the 1988 winner of the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. He finished third in the Kentucky Derby that year. He was by Secretariat out of Ribbon. Jacob was bred by the late Allen Paulson, the breeder of the great race horse Cigar. Jacob ran 18 times from age 3 to 5 with a record of 0-3-2 for total earnings of $5,969. He is 16.2 hands and has evidence of freeze fires on both front legs and a pin in his right front ankle. He was purchased lame at New Holland auction as a 5 year-old by a wonderful woman who runs a Thoroughbred training and layup barn in Doylestown, Bucks County PA. He was put out to pasture for the winter and came sound in the Spring. He was retrained for pleasure riding and trails.

Jake went through 2 other owners before coming to us at Midknight Springs Farm. He was used in a lesson program at our former lesson barn and we purchased him at the ripe old age of 15. He is the dominant herd leader of our brood. Bossy, but sweet, stubborn, but kind, a touch willful, but not spooky. Jake has a nice dance like quality about his movement; although he does some paddling and cannot be jumped due to his previous track injuries. He has been to several local fun shows and done well. He is strictly used for pleasure riding and trails.

Thanks for reading about Jake. He is a true character and a very beloved family member.

Cool pictures of Jacob! I liked the "bucking" pic and the last one, when they are all taking a nap, is priceless!! :) swedishkat

I love the nap picture! And poor Andy - I can empathize with him, my Toby loves to throw a buck or two! WendyinMI

LOL guys on the buck. All I could think of was sit back and move him forward! Andy is thrilled, he just started taking dressage lessons on our other TB (never raced) - Tetelestai aka Juergen. He will start Jake in dressage later in the summer. It will be a great benefit to both. midknight1
