About The Farm

We are located in northeast Kansas between Topeka and Lawrence. Irish Spirit Farms was incorporated in April 2007 and became a non-profit organization in 2008. The farm is over 100 years old and has a total of 40 acres that includes open fields, wooded trails and two ponds. In addition to the horses, the farm is also home to Pygmy goats, a llama, a rooster, rabbits, dogs and cats.

About Myself

During my 23 years with horses, I have shown hunters and dressage (had a short stint showing on the Arabian circuit but my Arab turned out to be better suited for the open hunter circuit...this was before the advent of the Arabian Sport Horse classes), managed training and boarding barns, taught riding lessons, trained horses and boarded other people's horses. I have been fortunate to work with a with a wide variety of breeds. My favorites though are Arabians and Thoroughbreds. Our farm is named for my first Arabian, Irish. When I bought Irish in 1988, I was his fourth owner in eight years. I made a commitment to him then that, I would care for him for the rest of his life. We have been together for 20 years! He recently turned 28 on St. Patrick's Day 2008. Irish Spirit Farms was a dream for many years before it became a reality. It's impetus was an Arabian mare named Rose (you can read a tribute to Rose on our website) and it's spirit was a 12 year old girl's promise to her horse some twenty years ago.

What We Do

At Irish Spirit Farms, we offer a variety of services to both horses and humans.

We rescue horses that are neglected, abused, in danger of going to slaughter or otherwise unwanted. We then rehabilitate those horses so that they are happy and healthy in mind, body and spirit.

We offer educational opportunities including horsemanship lessons, yoga groups, Reiki, guest speakers and, in the near future, we are planning on adding various clinics and an equine assisted therapy program. Lessons, training and boarding are offered to all adopters at a discounted rate.

Our main goal is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for horses and humans.

Our FOB Horses

We currently have two FOB horses. Sassy is a six year old bay Arabian mare and Joy (aka Juliet) is a five year old registered black and white Paint mare. They were rescued by the FOBs in 2007 and saved from going to slaughter. Teddy and Bones, our other FOB horses, have been adopted. Teddy's new family have renamed him Riley and are planning on using him for eventing. Bones' new owner has renamed him Shocker and plans to do both english and western with him.

Pictures of FOB horses can be seen on our website.
