INDIGO(FOB) has been adopted!

...Indigo - Paint Mare approx 8 yr old quiet and gentle led through at auction appeared unsound we thought a broker won the bid but she was purchased for slaughter we purchased her from the kill buyer. It appears as though she was kicked in the front right shoulder and possibly will be abcessing in her front right hoof - this was her death sentence.

(Below left) - She is purchased from NH killpen on 6/18. (Below right) - First evaluation and a new name INDIGO.

She is a well-broke mare, necks reins and backs up on command.

"..... Wendy came out today after sending her application in for pre-approval she fell in love with Indigo and she will be heading home Monday via Cathy at NLER who is transporting (thank you Cathy). She is going to her forever home on Monday, July 9

INDIGO at Wendy's.
She has some soundness issues and is fine at the walk, but off at the trot. Could be navicular and they are working on getting a treatment plan for her.

Update: 8/04 INDIGO has a possible hoof abcess. They knew she had possible problems when they purchased her but love her and are determined to work through them and get her well.

UPDATE 8/11 on INDIGO

Hi,
I just wanted to give you an update on Indigo. She saw a new farrier this week and I had radiographs done of her front left foot, the one she is having problems with. The radiographs looked good! The farrier said that the abscesses could have been caused by all the inflammation she had when she was kicked in the shoulder. The vet agreed that this could have been the cause. The vet thinks she will be fine once all the abscesses heal.

I hope so! I am so delighted to have gotten this news, but am mad at the first vet who saw her. I gave that vet her history as I knew it and I think she assumed something must have been wrong with her for her to have been at slaughter. She then thought she saw scars from nerving and said she has been nerved and can't be helped. The vet I saw today said she has not been nerved and still has feeling. Thank goodness I found another vet! My horses won't see the first vet again, that is for sure!

Wendy
