Bio
I am located in Omaha, Nebraska. Although the winters are sometimes a bit too cold for me, both of my daughters live here with their families so I am staying! Couldn't leave them or the grandkids! And the nice thing is that both of them live within 10 blocks or so from where I live.
I am involved in all animal rescue, all of my critters are rescue animals. I have two chesapeake bay retrievers at home. Gretyl is going to be 8 years old in April,2008, she is a bit big for a chessie. She weighs 118 lbs and is 29 inches at the shoulder. A bit oversized for the breed! Phoebe is the other chessie. She weighs about 60 lbs, more in line with the breed standard. She will be 7 in August, 2008.
I have 4 grandkids. I love all of them to pieces and I had NO CLUE that I would love being a grandma so much! By the way, my 4 1/2 yr old granddaughter is the one that dubbed me "Horsey G'ma"! I love it!
Horse experience
I have been riding horses for over 35 years. During the 70's I trained and gave lessons at Ponca Hills Equestrian Centre, now Ponca Hills Farm. Riding hunter/jumper, I also grew up in Pony Club, reaching my HA status. A wonderful way to learn about horses and how to properly care for them! I am now a board member of Crosswinds Equine Rescue in Illinois. We will hopefully be able to open a satellite rescue here in Nebraska.
I did not have my own horse until 8 years ago. Comet was the first one to join me. I was riding and training for others up until that point, with a break of a few years as I raised my girls. They had their own ponies, but couldn't afford one for me!
I currently have 4 horses.
Midget, a 31 yr old Percheron who will be 32 in March, 2008. He came from a rescue in Iowa. They picked him up at auction about 400 lbs underweight. He is a big boy, 16.3 and now weighs around 2300 lbs! Midget crossed over the Bridge peacefully on January 27, 2008. RIP my old friend...

Red, a 21 yr old thoroughbred who I adopted from my sister. She went to work at Ponca Hills Farm in Omaha, NE and had to find him a home. Since I have known him for 14 yrs, he wasn't going anywhere else but home with me! He is a grandson of Affirmed and looks SO much like him. Will post some pictures this summer so you can see how beautiful his color is. A "golden" chesnut!
Neka, (Ms Royal Flagship) a 16 yr old thoroughbred mare adopted from New Vocations. A gorgeous blood bay mare, very sweet! She is a granddaughter of Northern Dancer. And for you hunter/jumper types, she goes back to Native Dancer 3 times!

Comet, a 15 yr old thoroughbred rescued 7 yrs ago from Colorado. He is a big clown, I just love him! He is a grandson of Secretariat. He is 17 hands and is built like a warmblood. FUN to ride!
Zee, (Catch Some Zs) a 10 yr old thoroughbred adopted from Crosswinds Equine Rescue in Illinois. She is a granddaughter of Storm Cat and came equipped with some of his attitude. A one person horse that will give you everything she has once she trusts you.

Obviously you can't use pictures from Snapfish! I moved some to Kodak and was able to get them on here. Some of these are old as my pc crashed and I lost all of my photos...sigh...Trying to gather some from friends. Enjoy my babies!

Wow nice horses you have! My boy Toby sounds like your Storm Cat girl - he will give you all that he has but he has to trust you first and that part takes awhile. He's not for the faint of heart and his looks are deceiving. He's a grandson of Mr. Prospector. Nice wiki! WendyinMI
