Bio

Whatever you feel comfortable sharing re: your location, background and interests, contact information.

I am in Va., one of few FOBs in this state from what I can see. I have animals in my life in many forms and cannot imagine life without them. I have spent most of my life raising kids and animals and now would like a fun job to add income. I am medically oriented and catch on to medical things quickly. I'm easily reached by forum, just click on the username.

Horse experience

Share a little about your horse experiences.

Rode the first time at age 9 when we moved to a suburb that had riding stables and lessons. I fell in love. I have had quarter horses before this....Sweetie Pie (came with name) and then I got Cricket (ditto) who was sold to me after having been bred once. She was said to be sold open but it turned out I got a paint breeding stock filly months later. I got out of horses when finances and dxs of Autism spectrum on two sons took all my time. Now I'M BACK!! with an Arab mare, Melody Storm, and a paint/Arab filly, Shania Storm. I have my own barn at home which is about to get it's fencing in for the private rescue (no FOB funds) of OTTB Thorette's Cool Cat. The "girls" are boarded a short distance away where I see them and play with them daily. Shania is turning 2 on April 9 and Melody was an August foal so she is 17. Melody is my riding pal as Shania is too young yet. I have had other horses from my where I board that did not work out and I have now agreed to take care of one of them down with my girls. I am a barely adequate trail rider, nothing fancy about me. No jumping (at least not on purpose) or anything of that nature. Just love to be with the ladies and ride Melody when possible with my chaotic schedule

FOB activities

Identify rescues you support, other activities you have undertaken on TWR sites, what you have learned through following Barbaro and FOBs etc.

At this point finances prevent financial support but am willing to do anything I possibly can for the horses, including trying to make contacts to acquire what is needed and try for discounts. I'm not shy and not proud and will go ask for help for the love of the horses. On January 1, '08 I began private rescue of an OTTB.He arrived majorly underweight and rehabbed for several months. He was gelded and now is going to finish training before seeking a home of his own. In the summer of '08 another stallion arrived from Pa. His story was on this forum. His name is Cherokee and he is now a gelding. None of this would have happened without my participation on this board. In '08 Cathaven became a Va. registered non-profit. There are no plans to become a 501 in the near future as this is a small rescue that I prefer to keep small. It is most important to me to be able to be hands on with the horses, get the rescues ready to have homes when they are ready.
