Bio
I have been a corporate paralegal for the last 11 years in Washington, DC. I grew up in rural South Jersey and moved to Washington to attend Catholic University for a BA in World Politics and attended Georgetown University's Legal Assistant Program. I was lucky enough during college to study abroad in England. I lived in London (near Regent's Park) and worked for Stuart Bell, an MP for Newcastle. I was fortunate enough to also visit Ireland and Scotland during my stay. My only regret is that I didn't get to see any horseracing while I was here (I saw plenty of beautiful English horses, just not any racehorses).
I currently live in Crofton, MD with my husband, Michael, and my cat, Buddy. Aside from horses and horseracing, I love being outdoors, reading, old movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Horse experience
My great-aunt, Nan Capps, owned racehorses in NJ and KY. Although she died before I was born, I've heard many great stories surrounding her love of horses and horseracing. My grandfather and great-uncles were also great racing fans, having spent a lot of time at Garden State Race Track in NJ. I love going to Laurel Park in MD - there are no slots, just pure racing.
My family owned ponies when I was little and I helped gallop a neighbor's horse when I was a teenager. Although I don't currently own any horses, my goal is to own my own horse in the next 5 years.
Racing Favorites:
Here are some of my current racing favorites:
Storm in May - You have to love a horse with such a big heart and determination.
Tiago - I felt that Giacomo didn't get the respect he deserved when he won the Kentucky Derby, so I've been rooting for his half-brother.
Kodiak Kowboy - Kodiak Kowboy is a 2-year old stand-out that has won his last 4 races, including the recent G2 Saratoga Special. I definitely believe he is one to watch in the Breeder's Cup and during his 3-year old campaign.
UPDATE: Kodiak Kowboy ran third in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile! Although many were unsure of how he would do since his other races had all been less than a mile, he proved that he can keep up with the best. I really think he'll be on the Derby Trail in 2008 and will be one to watch!
UPDATE: Kodiak Kowboy won a Sovereign Award in Canada and is currently one of the finalists for the Champion 2-Year Old Eclipse Award along with War Pass and Pyro.
FOB activities
I've been involved in many of the rescue activities on ABR - namely the Rosie and Misty Pools and support of Pure Thoughts in the wake of the Fitch tragedy. I also try to help out when I see other rescues that need assistance, although sometimes my funds don't allow it. I've also become much more aware of the anti-slaughter movement because of ABR and want to fight to end the horrible practice in the US!
FOB Network
There are so many great FOBs that I've connected with through these past months. I was also lucky enough to meet some great FOBs at the Delaware Park Barbaro Celebration on April 29. Also, a BIG thank you to Alex for all he's done to keep us together!
