Bio
In 2001, Elena Disilvestro established the SummerWindsStable (SWS) with the rescue of one horse named “George.” From the beginning, the SWS was a project of the heart. Elena Disilvestro was deeply saddened seeing abandoned, neglected, and abused horses. She could not understand how so many horses, apparently in good health, could end up in slaughter houses.
In response to the way in which she saw many horses treated and/or destroyed, Mrs. DiSilvestro began taking in horses at her 10-acre Delaware farm, now the SWS. Over time, she established a premier Equine Sanctuary that has included many retired thoroughbred race horses with no place to go, as well as other horses that had been mistreated or neglected.
Since 2001, the rescue and its programs have expanded. Both horses and people are welcome at the SummerWinds, and on any given day you will find volunteers working hard to help the horses.

I have been working with horses for about 20 years now...have never met one that I didnt immediately love!
FOB activities
I am new to this but I have learned that nothing is impossible if your heart is in the right place. :) Its amazing to see so many people come together to save our treasured animals. Not to mention, everyone I have spoken to has been friendly, helpful and encouraging, even when things looked bleak at our rescue.
