A Look At Our Farm
Because we own a smaller parcel of land, we also rent several farms and use the assistance of foster farms for horses in our care.

FOB Saves from NH and PA/NY Kill Pen 2007
We attend New Holland auction Wiki for New Holland every Monday. FOB's are welcome to attend with us and learn about auctions. We also try to use roll over funds as much as possible (funds from adoptions) to pay for our rescues. On May 14th , May 21st and on June 4th, generous FOB's have helped donate funds to purchase a total of 12 horses from the NH auction and the kill pen where some are held before being shipped north to a Canadian slaughterhouse.

I LOVE MY OWNER AND ENDED UP IN A KILL PEN OCT. 8th
Christy called earlier. She was "up the hill" this afternoon at the killpen. She saw a bay horse ...sound ( no description yet except for 2 white socks ) wearing a halter which said, " I love my owner." The horse came right over to her; she laid across his back and gave him a kiss. She then called me.... and we both said this horse has to be saved. I hope we can help this guy. More information plus his price will come later."
We have a few days. Hopefully a picture will be coming later this evening. His color his dark bay... almost black. I don't even know his breed yet, but his bail is $525.

TWO PALOMINO MARES IN DANGER OF BEING SOLD TO SLAUGHTER - OCT. 13th
... the meatman phoned Christy (AC4H Rescue) and inquired whether there is any interest to spare a very nice black & white gelding, approx. 15 hds. He told her he's a really nice horse, kid broke to ride, would like to see him get a home if theres interest. Supposedly comes up a little sore after riding/unsure of the cause. He needs $650.00 for him. Then there are two palomino mares, a 10 y/o and a 12 y/o- $975.00 for both ($487.00 each). ....
The paint is purchased by a private party and funds are raised to bring the mares to AC4H the NEXT Monday.

Gidget coming home
Tawny ......
..We named them Gidget an(d) Tawney.
Gidget is 14.1 hands tall and is approx 20 years old. She has long hooves, a long wavey coat that suggests cushings, a runny nose, and runny eyes. We have started her on Chastetree berry for the cushings symptoms (yes this actually works), sulfa tabs for the cold symptoms, and antihist for the same. She has a beautiful, white, thick, long mane and tail. She was given a bath Teusday and seems to tie well. She doesnt like her back feet fooled with but she had burrs in her fetlocks and up and down her legs. She was also wormed and given probios. She had a bad colic episode the first night. She was down and trembling. She was very dehydrated. I think the colic was caused by the dehydration and our fresh cut hay may have been too rich for her. We gave her injectable Banamine and put her on our old hay and she had a full recovery. She is friendly and happy to have some luvin but also has a pony streak in her. Sometimes when you are leading her if she doesnt want to go where you are taking her she will just stop and stand there and look at you like .... um Nope aint goin there. She loads well. We havent done any riding evaluations yet.
Tawney is approx 7 years old and is 14.3 hands tall. She doesnt have any signs of illness but it looks like she had a traumatic foal delivery and has a loose vulva. When this mare fills out she will be drop dead gorgeous. She has a deep golden color (they both have nice color) and long thin mane and tail. Tawney really likes people and is very quiet and cooperative. She loads really slow but will get on with gentle coaxing. She has a western jog to die for. I hope she rides as nice as she looks! She will pick up her feet but pulls them down quickly. She will stand and let you do anything to her. She tied for her bath. We had to cut a big thick rats nest out of her tail. We wormed her and gave her a dose of Probios.

More On What We Do
Another Chance 4 Horses, Inc. Rescue, Rehabilitation and Placement is a non-profit 501c(3) incorporation located in Pennsylvania (PA). We have been in continuous operation for over a decade, AC4H is a volunteer based all breed horse rescue located in a highly horse populated area. There are multiple race tracks are in our tri-state area as well as many auctions that supply the foreign owned slaughter houses and Canada. Please take a look at our available horses
RESCUE AND REHABILITATION
We specialize in rescue intensive care rehabilitation rescue and placement. We have a commendation letter from our vet and work with several from the New Bolton Center.
Slaughter isn't the only danger facing horses in the auction cycle. There is also stress, risk of injury and infection (strangles).
Marquette
This is MARQUETTE's (FOB) story.

February 8th, 2008 Update: Putting All Her Weight on Her Back Legs. A Big Improvement.
POCO FOB Injured AHPA 2 year old filly ransomed December '06.
Jan.5 Meet with vets........... Feb. 1 Infection could be in her growth plates and POCO has her joint flushed.................... April 19 POCO is light riding sound.
The hard work we did with infusing to kill the infection has worked but there is damage that will be there forever. We were going for pasture pet sound but what we wound up with is riding sound... phenomenal!! Poco will never be able to be a performance horse or work hard she will most likely develop arthritis but the x-rays confirmed that what we did saved her life and she will go on to be a trail horse for light rider.
July 14 - UPDATE on POCO She is being lunged now and (we are) working on her ground manners. This fall she will begin to be worked under saddle.
BROKER HORSES
We also help horses through our placement programs we do not own these horses such as pmu's and also those owned by kill buyers or brokers in an effort to rescue more. There is a markup/donation to cover costs and additional proceeds go to our local rescue efforts. The broker page can be controversial as many brokers have kill contacts and some have kill contracts, but slaughter isn't the only risk to the horses. See above: Marquette at broker lot.
Fundraising Drives for Broker Horses 6/14 and 6/15
SAVED:Mare and foal on broker lot. $600 Thin Bay Gelding $375
SAVED: Sweet older Roan Belgian $500 Bay Belgian $550
We also have a consignment page for privately owned horses looking for new homes and a $0 fee page and allow the use of our forms (edited to remove our info and replaced with yours) to assist in protecting the horses.
AC4H Adoption Update Friday, July 6th

SAVE FROM KILL PEN
One of the many that AC4H has pulled from the kill pen is Amber. This is her story. Amber had belonged to CSU and was probably used for embryo transplants. After her usefullness was over she had been returned to a dealer and sold to slaughter. CSU does not sell horses direct to slaughter, but once the experimental program is over, they are often returned to a dealer. Amber was one of many who never even make it through auction but are sold direct from dealer to killer buyer. But the story has one more twist to it. Amber is an Oldenburg mare, a special breed of European horse that is bred for dressage.
Here she is at AC4H just relaxing with some volunteers in mid March.
Here is Amber in May of this year with her new owner.
COMMUNITY SURRENDERS
Jenkins was loved and well cared for, but the community in which his owner lived had
strict standards on acreage needed for a horse.
The owner worked for the SPCA and had to surrender him to AC4H.
TB's FROM PENN and CHARLES TOWN RACE TRACKS
Many of these TB's go direct to slaughter. We would like to establish a relationship with trainers and track officials that would provide placement options for TB's when they can no longer race. In the meantime, we would like a backside contact who could alert us when a particular horse was in danger so we could try to raise the funds to place them.
Here is one lucky horse recently surrendered from PENN.
Community Service
We hold annual events to educate horse owners, travel to grade schools and participate in community service with local high schools and other groups to educate our children who are the future.
4-H breakfast awards ceremony.
Working with Kidspeace.
It is our hope that through educating horse owners on proper care, nutrition and providing a network of resources regarding knowledge and readily available information that we can assist in solving problems that lead to the need of our services prior to it ever happening.
We also assist disabled riders through the "McLean, Lloyd Fund"
We would love to introduce you to our equine friends, please make an appointment to come visit and meet them.
Rescue Network
Another Chance 4 Horses, Inc. has mentored several rescue's and also created a network of rescues that we have worked with in the past - HRC, Horse Rescue Coalition The debut was a anti slaughter message with the assistance of the FOB's and John Holland that reached thousands of people educating them about slaughter and helping horses.

Her name is actually Hidden Princess. Her great grandpa is the famous Buckpasser :>) She is a descendant of Man O' War - War Admiral and won some good money in her time. She is 20 years old.
