    Barbaro Updates: 947

    updates are now here.

Update 5618: Three wins at Woodbine this afternoon made it our best day at the meet. And our jock Luis also rode a winner for Neil Drysdale. He went a perfect four for four!

Update 5617: Eight galloped for Steve this morning at Woodbine. And a bit more eventful than usual as I fell off one of them going back to the gate. Fortunately I landed on my feet and still had a hold of my horse, so no harm done. It has been a while since I have fallen off! The other seven all went nicely, although coming home on one of them a loose horse came barreling through the tunnel just as I was exiting the tunnel. It set my horse off and if there was a horse for me to fall off, it should have been that one. But we stuck together.

After I was finished I got on Hooh Why and we went to the gate for a little schooling. And she schooled nicely.

Update 5616: Hooh Why is back in the entries, running in the Selene Stakes on Saturday. There was strong speculation that Alabama winner Careless Jewel would also go into the Selene, but it appears she will wait another week and go to Philadelphia Park for the richer Fitz Dixon Cotillion: Milwaukee Appeal in Comfort Zone in Selene.

    And please keep calling.

I've become quite fond of Hoow Why, albeit from afar, and hope she can upset Milwaukee Appeal on Saturday...be safe, girls!

Please keep up the "righteous raging for the ROAM act" and the "superlative shout-out for the anti-slaughter legislation"....failure is NOT an option!

Hiya, FsOB, and a hearty shout-out to Joy in VT and our Naughty Nutmegger Nancy. Joy, I share your abiding love for John Hentry. Unfortunately, he passed on before I could meet him during my visit to KY in June of 2008.

Alex, I get such a laugh out of Hooh Why's name. Any word on how Mine That Bird is doing?

    #### To Margie in NM: Yikes, 2 inches of snow already? May the Force be with you.
To CJ: We miss you here, our own dear self-styled "craziest cat lady". Wishing you "ACD". ####

    AGH:
Yole are using the "S" word again!!!!
    Now, cut that out!
Don't make me come over/down/up there!!

OK: so on the TODAY show...instead of an in-depth story on the ongoing destruction of OUR wild horses, we have a multiple segment interview with MacKenzie Phillips, who has apparently found a new way to revive(?) her career(?) with a sordid tale of her "relationship" with her father...ah, yes....for years.

    1. someone tell me why we should care about this
    2. someone tell me why no one is paying ANY attention to what is being done/has been done/in the West in OUR Public Lands by despots, meglamaniacs, criminals and cretins in general.

I DO try to lay there in the dawn, thinking positive thoughts about the Cloud Foundations's efforts this weekend and the "gathering" in DC and VA. Really, I do....

But then I see that swill on HLN last night: all 3 minutes of it?! And say to myself, this is the ONLY media outlet that has picked up on the mountains of PR outflow we have generated???

Meanwhile: i am expecting delivery of shingles/dumpster etc for roofing of the newer part of my leetle house originally built in 1834...rstoration of front porch ceiling, new roof on that, installation of actual PORCH LIGHT(S) and installation of new front door(s.)

I also have to move my wonderful old Windstar to mai fren's place where he will reverently strip her off parts over time. Many GH souls in that car...so I am feeling irrationally emotional about leaving behind that part of my life, and those souls...i know they're NOT in that van, but we sent so many hounds to heaven in that van.

    So: onward.
    Keep calling.
    Keep the faith.
    Support each other.
Steffie is YELLING AT ME to get off the damned 'puter and FEED HER...so I'd better get going.

I love mai FoBs. If only the rest of the world was so good....

BTW: That MacKenzie Phillips segment is still GOING ON. They must have devoted over 10/15 minutes--in total to this BS.

    Kill me.

###We are having such a nice year here in the High Dirt--lovely spring, and lovely fall. Am wondering if we'll have another winter with UNlovely 'ess' on the ground like last year (I was essed in for a week).

###All the reality shows where people are just plain rude to each other and the manipulative and passive-aggressive types win big are leading to these confessions of things that in my view give us TOO MUCH INFORMATION.

I turn off most television, watch almost NONE of the 3,000 "basic channels" on my satellite system. I watch Fox News, true crime shows, some programs on the Documentary channel, and all of the "World's Dumbest ..." programs (including the "world's dumbest comments" by the people who aren't even qualified to be on the celebrity D-list). The rest of the programs aren't worth my time.

###The Apologist-in-Chief was at it again at the UN yesterday--and a news report this morning states that he made a comment after one of his campaign speeches that the audience "was drinkin' the juice." Sort of tells me what he thought about the people who voted for him. Guess now that he's been elected, he's got better things to do than listen to the people who thought he was going to do something different than he's obviously been doing and are sending him very strong messages about a lot of things including their unwillingness to let him and his cronies bankrupt this country.

Yet another lesson learned about believing what the candidate says. The speeches with their empty promises are all shredded and forgotten once these cretins get into office. It happens on both sides of the aisle, too. We Californians have Ahnold. HE is a big ... disappointment to those of us who thought he was going to be different than the idiot he replaced.

###Onward to all warriors in this battle for our beloved animals. Good journeys to all on the road and MargieinNM--best wishes the "ess" misses you. It's too early.

Kay:) Here's a copy/paste from late last evening, our time...some GOOD TV...coming up Sunday:

I am going somewhat 'offtopic' here...but still having to do with horses, Famblee.

I saw an interesting 'teaser' today featuring Ken Burns and his upcoming special on PBS "National Parks: America's Best Idea, which airs this Sunday night @8p and continues through the next six nights, each episode two hours long.

During the bits/pieces shown today on the Martha Stewart Show, so many of the old photographs showing the men who first 'discovered' such places as Yellowstone and Yosemite...and then as time progressed and lodges were built...roads were built...people were brought by stagecoach, even..ALL the people were on the backs of HORSES...and I just kept thinking....'LOOK AT THE HORSES...LOOK AT THE WORK THOSE HORSES DID...LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARRIVED IN THESE PARKS ON THE BACKS OF HORSES'...yes...I am SHOUTING, you bet I am!!

Horses..I've always said this country was settled on the backs of horses...and it even includes the discovery and development of our own National Parks...and I keep wondering...dosen't anyone of the 'powers that be' ever recognize that fact..or think about that fact??

It just makes me so sad..and chaps mai hide at the same time, Famblee!

And then...HLN...a 'news' program is featuring Cloud and the 'gathering' which has taken place..so I sit down to see..and I get up and leave the TV because..and I apologize if I offend anyone with my comments..but I am so sad, ashamed, angry and again, disillusioned that seemingly the ONLY 'news' program we can catch the attention of is, to me, anyway...sort of like seeing the National Enquirer in living color on the TV screen.

I'll go to the website, I'll leave comments, hoping that perhaps a more 'mainstream' news show might actually show interest...but I'm not inclined to hold my breath, not just at this moment:(

I understand the reporter, Chantal..sorry, don't know her last name did do a very good job..I also have heard she was barely allowed to speak, so she did the best she could, and for that I thank her.

If yole might be interested in Mr. Burns' production showing all the National Parks in this country, I hope you can watch at least some of the episodes...he did say it would re-play the following week or weekend in a 'marathon' so if you miss some, you can catch up that way. It just looked so interesting and of course the photography is beautifully done..so much history to be seen and SO MANY HORSES who helped with it all!

*DELTA DAWN*, the emaciated mare at Safe Haven has made the newspaper and two TV station news up there in the Red Bluff/Redding area!! You can see her update and the pics of yesterday's filming on her Thread...#41110.1.

The 're-feed' Challenge has been met...and I must give a shout-out to Jonna for completeing that, in memory of my *MURPHY-MAN*:) Any future donations will now go toward her Vet fees/equine dental expenses and Ferrier expenses.

Yole *ROCK*! In less than a week's time...the FOBs have donated over $1K to Safe Haven for this girl...who some suspect strongly might be a TB!

Safe Haven gave the FOBs some press exposure during the interview, too:) And next month, at a fundraising dinner..there will be a Poster Board for attendees to check out....a *FOB* Poster Board...which includes a beautiful photo of Barbaro, a story of us and how we have come to be which explains much of what we have done and continue to do all in the name of horses...pretty cool stuff, me thinks:)

I hope everyone will have a great Thursday! I am going to play 'Hannah Homemaker' today here in my little home..and am much looking forward to it, too:)

Good Morning Gang. The s never showed up 'down here'. Just rain. Thank goodness. But the mountain tops are frosted in white. And it is very chilly.

If anyone is wondering what ever happened to Paul Sorvino and his daughter, Amanda, Amanda is on Facebook and still fighting the good fight, but more on the local level, ie. New Holland.

I continue to have experiences with 'other' folks, who do not want to hear what is going on in the animal world. They just don't want to hear it. Dog/cat rescue people do not want to hear about horses being dragged, horse slaughter, starvation, etc. Deflection is also their way of not dealing with the ugly truths. They will refer me to what is going on in other countries. The truth is so ugly, maybe that is their way of dealing with it. Denial. Refusal to hear it. And deflection. I don't blame them, since the info is horrifying. Thank God there are people like us that continue on, through tears, nausea, and anger. I think we were all born with an anti-BS gene.

Off topic, but a fun leetle kennel story. The owner of the kennels, where I work, has a huge RV. She and her husband and 2 of their rescued Salukis took a trip to Salida, CO 2 weeks ago. Salida is 3 hours north from Taos. The RV came back and was parked on the side of the kennel building, and on Tuesday a cat was noticed hanging around the RV. This was the same cat that had been hanging around in the campground up in Salida! A humane trap was placed under the RV Tuesday afternoon, covered in a blanket, with food and water inside. Wednesday morning the cat was in the trap. We brought her in and put her in a kitty condo. She had a collar with tags on it, and was microchipped. The owner was called. She was sobbing and said that Sweetie Pie was missing for over 2 and a half weeks. With that news, she started her trek down here to Taos. The reunion was very emotional, for all of us. Sweetie Pie had stowed away under the RV in the pop out section, and rode here on the 3 hour journey. The RV made no stops until it got back to the kennels.

for Debbie, LA and Jonna...especially loved the part about 'Niners 2-0' :)

Thursday, September 24th... If you were anywhere near our Sacramento area yesterday, you felt our pain. It was hot. Miserable. Feels like July instead of autumn. It was so hot yesterday the voice on my GPS directed me to Anchorage. But the man on the radio is saying a cool down coming. Today should only be 138.

Flies starting their engines. Dairy Queen starting their frosty machines.

So instead of sitting here on my giant rear end drinking delicious hot coffee from Peets, and cold orange juice made by Simply Orange, I should be outside taking care of chores. Before the sun fully shows. Before our Sacramento Bee is delivered. Before Pony Boy knocks on the door begging for his first of several peppermints. We have poop. Poop on top of poop. Passing motorists slow and stare. Neighbors quickly put out their For Sale signs. Flies arriving from Fresno.

But first I want to express my gratitude to:

Nicole in Elk Grove for saying sure, she can take a home foreclosure horse.

Julia in Lincoln for saying sure, she would love to help an injured gelding from Hollywood Park.

A family in Brentwood for accepting two geldings from a private home. Both geldings are paints, and in need of food.

And right here in our town of Woodland, a big Thank You to a family for accepting an older mare from a private home. The mare needs dental and feet work. Always rock music on their barn radio. Always the best ice cold lemonade from their own trees.

Hungry horses making noise. Enjoy your 49ers are 2-0 Thursday, and be sure to hug your horses. Coldplay on the radio...

    Joe

    MargieNM ,
What a heartwarming story, and with a happy ending.
It seems to be a kind of synchronicity that Sweetie Pie hid out in a vehicle that came straight to one of the only kinds of places that had the humane trap to catch her, and people to care for her and call her owner. That owner received a blessing !

Just to clarify, I didn't write the above. It was supposed to be italicized in my earlier post to indicate it was part of the political stuff I don't like to see on AlexdBrownRacing, but I got my HTML coding mixed up.
