    Barbaro Updates: 889

    updates are now here.

Update 5251: A fun afternoon at the races at Woodbine. I went over for the sixth race when we paddock schooled our two runners for tomorrow. This also gave me a chance to add to our Woodbine Characters series:

Gaye Lynch, horse identifier. Gaye Lynch, as the horse identifier, Gaye checks the lip tattoos of each of the horses that comes over to the paddock to race. She will check the numbers off with a list she has that also includes any identifying marks on the horses. Gaye is also around when we paddock school and she checks the first time starters and other horses that have yet to run at Woodbine.

Then Dragooner won the eighth race, our first winner here for a couple of weeks so that was very cool!

Update 5250: A straightforward morning this morning at Woodbine. We had seven sets. All galloped nicely, under very grey skies. Fortunately the weather remained relatively dry for the morning. One of mine went to the gate for a little gate schooling, and she schooled nicely.

And to continue our Woodbine Characters series:

Slade Callaghan, jockey. Slade Callaghan has been a jockey at Woodbine since 1994. Slade is originally from Barbados. Slade's recent successes have included Rahy's Attorney, who won the Woodbine Mile last year and recently won the King Edward VII Stakes here turning the tables on his rival Sterwins. Slade is a hard working jockey in the mornings, and always seems to be in good humor.

Elvis Kellman, exercise rider, David Cotey. Elvis Kellman is a freelance exercise rider who gallops almost exclusively for David Cotey. I have known "Billy", that is his nickname, since I arrived at Woodbine last year. Billy tried to explain to me how he acquired his nickname this morning, but it all went over his head. Billy has three kids, who I see sometimes with him at the races in the afternoons.

Update 5249: Mine That Bird's team is now seeking another jockey as Borel cannot commit to the long term: Borel No Longer Jockey for Mine That Bird.

    And please keep calling.

    Comments

Hiya, FsOB and a hearty hello to the ABR AM Shift! We are having a torrential rainstorm with lightning and thunder this AM, so I'll need to be brief. Very interesting reading about Calvin Borel and Chip Woolley.... I wish that Calvin had committed to MTB, I think Bird really likes Calvin.

    #### To Sandra: Hoping that you & Chief get a break from the heat!
To Bobbie B.: Wish I could send you some of our rain & cool temps. ####

    Happy Thursday everyone!!

I'm looking forward to the holiday weekend - as I'm sure you are too. Lots of celebrations on the 4th. We just stay home but there are neighbors who set off fireworks all over the place. I always dreaded it because Kaiser hated them. As he got older though, it didn't seem to bother him as much. We'll be thinking of him with every "boom".

    Have a great day everyone.

    Re the 4th

My first Irish Wolfhound, Finnegan, was not afraid of the fireworks. In fact, he took exception to the presence of those lights in HIS sky.

He'd leap in the air, barking and snapping at the displays--we're right across the lake from the NYS Fairgrounds, and they have fireworks demonstrations nearly every night+ of the Fair, end of August--early Sept.

My fierce little Jack (God rest her evil little soul) used to turn into a cast iron of herself when there was thunder/fireworks, etc. You could literally pick her up like a doorstop and carry her anywhere you wanted her to go. The poor muffin.

One of my broods, Heart, also hates loud concussive noise...she pants, trembles and pins her leetle rose-ears back in anxiety. She gets 3 25 mg human benedryl and that keeps her a little less panicky.

Imodium AD and benedryl: don't leave home without them for your googies. Used judiciously, of course.

And yes, it IS raining in Liverpool, NY once again. I may make like a turkey and rush outside and drown myself by laying in the lawn with my mouth open.

Yes, food/turkeys will do this. My uncle--who had a disastrous post WWII experience running a turkey farm in MN told us this and many other hilarious stories about The Farm.

What does one expect from a fowl with a brain the size of a Kidney Bean.

###Well, THAT was an interesting bunch of posts with blue links all over the place. I wondered why there were so many posts so early on ABR this morning.

###Interesting days these are. Must admit I am tiring of the Calvin story. Nice that he has options and he is popular, but Chantal was MTB's early jockey and maybe this will be her shot to ride him again. If it ain't broke ...

###We had a bit of rain night before last and a splattering yesterday (just enough to make my car look dirty, ratz), and the chance of more today. The temps are below 100 and that's a good thing.

###Those of you who are tea-partying Saturday, go for it! I am trying my best to get on the Department of Homeland Security's watch list. I am not military, which seems to me to be the first requirement despite the non-apology by Ms. Napolitano, but I am a card-carrying member of the NRA and have signed up for a lot of conservative e-letters.

    Hee hee.

###Got horse chores to do--major stall cleaning and feed being delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to an easy week next week and then two weeks of "full time" because my editor is on a jury--at least so far.

###Safe travels to all, keep an eye on the four-leggeds this weekend, and onward.

    ###And thank you, Alex.

    Joanne,
I enjoyed your story about the your pups and how they delt with the noise on the 4th of July. I really enjoyed the story about the turkeys, like the 11 turkeys with brains the size of kidney bean posting here with us. May we all have a great day!

    JOE FOR THERZ-DAE:
    ***************************************************
Thursday, July 2nd... When a big storm hits, our friend Wendy brings us still warm oatmeal raisin cookies. So good I have to hide them from Pony Boy. A nicer young lady you will never meet. Each Thanksgiving and Christmas Wendy helps prepare food for those less fortunate. Wendy gives free horse back riding lessons to children without money.

The lousy economy has clobbered many. Wendy has a 16 year old chestnut gelding who needs a new home. The gelding comes with a big ankle, from an old race track injury. He is gentle, and loves kids. A companion home would be best.

Brenda lives not far away, and she has a 4 year old gray thoroughbred filly who also needs a new home. The filly is beautiful, and has not had much training.

Kylie is a student at UC Davis. Her story would take 6 hours and 4 pots of Peets to share. There is a race horse gelding who came to UC Davis, but now he is with Kylie. The gelding is 5, dark bay, with minor injuries.

A family in the Davis area, with an older thoroughbred gelding who can not be ridden.

A family in Vacaville, with a very skinny thoroughbred gelding. Not sure how much training he has had. But you can easily tell what a hunk this guy will be after a few weeks of regular meals.

All of the above horses are free. I do the screening, and my cell is 530-383-2120.

At the feed lot in Wilton, 4 thoroughbred geldings, all young, none with a racing tattoo. The 4 geldings came from the same family farm and are good with people and other animals.

At the feed lot in Pittsburgh, several older thoroughbred mares, most with racing tattoos. Two of the mares gave birth this spring, but we have no clue where their foals are.

From horse killer Wade Giles, a young thoroughbred filly who was too slow for racing. Her only race at Stockton, and she was left far behind.

Feed lot horses in Wilton, Pittsburgh, and from horse killer Wade Giles are priced by the pound. There is a shipping charge. Give me a call if you are interested.

Congratulations Nicole, also a student at UC Davis. Nicole is the new owner of a gelding we called Denver. Nicole has changed his name to Parker.

It is Thursday, with delicious ice cold orange juice made by Simply Orange. Flies starting their engines. Later we say goodbye to Cut, on his way to Oregon. We say goodbye to Dallas, on his way to green grass with a foster family. Enjoy your triple cheese enchillada with sour cream and avocado Thursday, and be sure to hug your horses. Have fun Georgia & Jenny, on their way for a long weekend of camping and trail rides.

    Joe

    Adoptions from 2007:

Top Left: In the rain Marta adopts the handsome gelding Old Rocky Boy.

Top Right: Rebecca is a police detective. She goes home with Mt. Scopus.

Bottom Left: The gray gelding Omega Chapter gets a new home with The Preece Family.

Bottom Right: Mira came from Seattle to adopt Adams Twin.

July 2 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

To be victorious we have to fall a few times. Though falling is not necessary to winning most of us do it before we learn to avoid the things that make us fail. But when we begin to progress, even in little ways, we feel the flush of success and it urges us to make another try. As children, we fell many times before we learned to balance our legs to support us in whatever way we learned. Nothing equals thinking big and doing big, but little victories lay the groundwork for winning to be so natural we don't even question that we can do it. Work first for the little wins, and then move to bigger things. Just a little honest success under our belts can make a difference.

Give unto us that wisdom, which will guide us in the path of Truth.

    Mornin' All,

    ## Lou Ann, holding hands, paws, hoofs, with
you and that sweet mama of yours.

    ## Jonna, the storms in N.C. are so bad I might
need some of that Imodium too ! Actually, need
rain so badly I'm willing to risk it. There is always depends -- what Jay Leno said he wears
    during the Superbowl ! !

    ## My gracious - how I would love some cool air, rain, and mist. I would stand out and revel in
it - even if my hair gets frizzy .

    ## Kay, me fren, I've dug out plenty stalls and
it's no job for a bad shoulder. Be oh- so- careful
    and good luck.

Has anyone news of Dee's Mom ? I'd like to know.
And ## Barb and Freckles ??
    Shelly and Aaron ??
We have so many to be prayed for.

    Bye now,

Posted by: Bobbie B. at July 2, 2009 5:06 PM

    ## Robyn,

My comment above about standing out in the rain and mist was directed to you and somehow I missed your name - nothing serious, just senility creeping closer - yikes.

Posted by: Bobbie B. at July 2, 2009 5:08 PM

May I post once more before I return to calling ?

    ## Robyn,

I think Calvin did the right thing in the long run,
since he is Rachel's long-term committed jockey.
I don't think you can commit to two big -time horses, as both are.

Mine That Bird needs his own jockey, one who is committed to him and he can count on. They will develop a trust that will help MTB , who will need it in future campaigns, because he is a formidable racehorse and deserves it.
Wooley made the right decision IMHO.

Calvin can ride lesser known horses in lesser known races to make his paychecks, but he has to be available for Rachel.
I wish MTB much good luck in finding a great jockey to ride with.

Please consider helping with the SOS feedlot horses. There are 7 of them that have homes and need funds. Then there is the gorgeous Kianne, a lovely tb mare with jockey club papers who still needs a home offer. Check them all out at www.sosequines.org

    Thank you

    Hi all,

Here is today's July 2nd list of legislators to contact on the daily faxing campaign. Since it is Thursday we will contact Senators on S. 727, requesting them to both cosponsor it and work actively to override any silent hold (denial of unanimious consent) placed on this bill. As usual, we will continue contacting them state by state in alphabetical order.

UPDATE AND REMINDER - re-posting from yesterday and the day before

No new news on the federal front this morning - holding at 143 cosponsors in the House for HR 503 and 17 cs in the Senate for S 727. We are making significant progress - please keep contacting the target lists AND your own unsigned Rep/Sen(s) - lists coming right up in my next post.

Thanks Jonna for reminding us that we have until the end of 2010, NOT the end of 2009, to work with these bills. Not that we WANT to wait that long, only that we have that entire extra year to "gitter done" . . . A much better prospect than running out of time at the end of THIS year, as we did last year with HR 6598 . . . Of course we want slaughter to end YESTERDAY - but everything in DC seems to move with the speed of molasses . . . and I am glad to be reminded that we have that add'l year.

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR THE HORSES! Go get 'em . . .

    HORSES ON THE HILL!

here is a link to a thread about Horses on the Hill that contains posts with hotlinks to the various links referred to in the following message.

    http://forums.delphiforums.com/alexbrown/messages?msg=38390.1

excerpt from message from Deb & Shelley, Anti Slaughter Issues: US - STRATEGY FOR WEEK OF JUNE 29

    HORSES ON THE HILL!

We strongly encourage everyone who is able, to attend this event. We'll keep you posted on any updates. Please let us know if you are going by sending us an email. If you are looking for t shirts, caps, etc, please visit http: // www. cafepress.com/AAHSmerchandise [close up spaces]

Please mark your calendar and join us in Washington, DC on July 14th to meet with your legislators and show your support for America’s horses and the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 503/S. 727). The last Horses on the Hill was a huge success, let’s make this one even bigger and better!

As plans unfold for the daylong event you can start right now by signing up to attend. Please send an email to blair@awionline.org telling us if you plan on attending. Feel free to email if you have any questions.

    Then follow these steps:

Visit AWI’s Compassion Index to find your US Representative and two US Senators. Enter your zip code and hit go. [note - link in the above-noted thread]

Call their offices and ask to speak with their animal staffer, let them know you are a constituent. Schedule a meeting on July 14th between 10 am and 4 pm. You will be scheduling a total of three meetings (one in US House, two in US Senate). You can ask to meet with your legislator, as well, but meeting with the animal staffer is very beneficial. Questions about calling Capitol Hill? Click here. [note - link in the thread noted at top of this post]

After you set your meetings, come back to AWI’s Compassion Index and fill out the form with your meeting information. This will help us both coordinate your meetings and follow up after you leave. We will provide specific information (brochures, fact sheets, etc…) that will help in your meetings.

Send this email to everyone you know and ask them to join us in Washington, DC on July 14th for America’s horses.

Make your travel plans to join us on Capitol Hill. DC is a great summer destination. There are lots of things to do.

If you have any questions please email Blair at blair@awionline.org. We look forward to seeing you all on July 14th. Be sure to bookmark http: //www. horsesonthehill.org and check back often for updates and new information.

Still more to do for Barbaro's brothers and sisters - WE STILL NEED CONSTITUENT CONTACT - pls keep after your OWN Representative and Senators.

CURRENT AS OF Thursday July 2

In addition to the current weekly AAHS strategy (week of June 29), which is posted here [close up spaces]

    http: // forums.delphiforums.com/alexbrown/messages?msg=38628.1

along with our House target list and links to daily HAHS 'short list' - and please work with those lists as a priority - when you have a leeeettle extra time/energy -

PLEASE KEEP CONTACTING YOUR OWN SENATORS AND REP (though this is not spelled out in the current AAHS directions). We are getting feedback that many legislators really only listen to their OWN constituents.

    ## C J,

Are you still using the concept that its a national problem ,etc, when the aide seems dismissive after asking your zipcode ?

So many now seem to only care about their own constituents, and I feel sometimes that my message is being thrown to file 13.
How can we handle it ? Anybody got anything on this ? thanks,

    Morning, ABR Famblee!!

I'VE GOT *BIGGGG NEWS* THIS MORNING!!!

I am being a *GOGGY NANNY* for today!! Most UNEXPECTED EMERGENCY takes my neighbor away for today...I'M SITTING WITH ..... *DEETLE*...she's a CHOCOLATE 'LABADOR RETREEEVER':) She's just over a year old...and SO FILLLLLLED WITH 'IT' I AM DIZZY FROM KEEPING UP WITH HER!!! :)

I've dragged *MURPHY'S* doggy bed out from the closet..and a 'few' of his toyz, too!! She arrived here about 40 minutes ago...and she and I are currently 'bonding':) She's very FRENLY and most CURIOUS about the KITTEH...who is the size of THREE KITTEHS, he's so PUFFED UP...and seems to have taken up residence on the TOP of the bookcase in the dining room!!! LOL!!

*DEETLE* has had a few small Milk Bones...and GUESS WHAT, FAMBLEE!!!! SHE HAS HIDDEN ONE IN MURPHY'S SOFA...JUST LIKE *HE* USED TO DO!!! Wheeeee!!!

I'm so afraid to let her out in my backyard...there are places the wire fence doesn't quite meet the ground...Her Grandma ASSURED me she won't try to ESCAPE...but OMG!! I don't wanna LOSE THIS GIRLY!!! :-O

She's laying down behind me right now...I think that is EXCELLENT...because she hasn't stopped ONCE since she arrived here this morning....Labradors don't slow down, I dont' think until somewhere around AGE FOUR!! I'm prolly in for quite a *RIDE* TODAY, I AM THINKING:)

I'll update later on....she's 'nosing my elbow' now...she either wants attention or OUTSIDE :-O

Thanks, CJ, for all you do here!

I wonder also, as Bobbie pointed out, how effective some of our calls are to out of state. I work primarily here in AZ, but I do try to get to some on the national list. I never get to all of them. What I try to do for out of state is send them stuff.

Freckles is holding his own this morning. The shoer said he would be pretty uncomfortable for a day or so because of the pounding on his feet. It's hard to say how he is doing when he is still on the Bute.

We are icing his feet down three times a day and will do that through tomorrow. He gets his Bute twice a day and I will continue to do that for another week or so, then try to "back" him off it, going to once a day. I doubt we will see anything different until I try to wean him off of it, so we are looking at 10-14 days before I can determine if he is going to be all right. Of course, he could continue on Bute for a while, if his tummy will tolerate it. I know sometimes you have to give them Maalox along with the Bute if they go off their feed. We will just have to see.

During the day Freckles is in a shaded stall which has a misting system. He loves to stand under the misters in the shade. It has been close to 110 during the day here. The radiant heat from the earth is what causes this type of "heat founder." His shoes and pads will actually protect his feet from further problems.

At night Freckles has the run of the place. He loves to lie down in our small pasture in the cool grass. I am up during the night checking on him, so I have not been getting much sleep. He was down for a LONG time last night, so I can't get back to sleep until I see that he is up. I know he is resting, sleeping peacefully, but I worry if he is down too long.

So, I am exhausted. Reminds me of when the kids were little, checking on them throughout the night. But you don't have to have kids to know what I'm taking about, do you? Whenever we are concerned about a loved one, two-legged or four-legged, it disrupts our whole schedule!

Thanks for your prayers, and good thoughts, and candles. I will try to keep you posted.

Barb, AZ...GREAT news re: Freckles!! Still holding good thoughts for this 40 y/old guy:) and his Famblee, too!

*DEETLE* has been outside to piddle...I was HOLDING MY BREATH the whole time...but she seemed to not be so interested in exploring the 'escape routes'...of course I didn't let her 'linger' out there too long, either!! It's a HUGE responsibiity, I feel, being 'responsible' for someone's dog!! I don't want any mishaps while she is in my care....omygoodness!

She is stuck to me like 'glue' for the most part....she knows me as the *COOKIE LADEEE*, but never been inside my house before...she does, however, sit on the sofa with me:) and she likes her ears 'skritched', too:) I'm still waiting for her to grab a nap...and Seymoure Kitteh is still pasted to the top of that bookcase in the dining room...which, by the way, is six feet tall!!! LOL!

    ## Lynne ,

Give my sympathies to Seymoure Kitteh for having
    the home domain invaded.

Hopefully , Deetle is not yet old enough to
    consider kittehs as enemies.
I love labs and all dogs.
Good luck to Nanny and the Deetle. Doesn't
that sound like a tv show ! !

    ## Freckles ,
Way to go , sweet old guy , you keep those
    hooves cool, baby , cool.
    ## Barb , hang in there fren , you are doing
God's work helping him so. You're piling up
brownie points and gold stars with the fates.

    bye now frens,

###Lynne, it sounds like so much fun at your house with the burbs and the deer all all your critters and now Deetle. He's not going to want to go home, so it's a good thing he is close by. Enjoy and thanks for the updates and keep cool.

###Barb, so happy to hear Freckles is doing better. What a good Mom you are. Take care and you keep cool too!

###Robyn and all, thank you for your best wishes for Canada Day. It turned out to be a really nice day here and lots of fireworks were booming.

going over unread emails from earlier this week and realized I missed posting this one from Harriette Brillianthawk - making up for that belatedly now (better late than never!)

    June 30 Cherokee Devotional

Late in the evening when the sun has almost set and activity begins to slow, it is so nice to sit in the garden to watch the birds taking their evening baths and to hear the night bird tuning up his evening song. It is almost mystical, as only a change of light can make it. Jet trails in the last rays of sunlight draw and redraw their lines in the sky. But way up there, they can't catch the scent of petunias blooming down here.

Everyone deserves something beautiful to slow down his or her pace at the end of the day. Don't count the things that were accomplished this day, don't regret, don't entertain thoughts that distress---just relax and touch the earth and see the sky. Let this be a time of gratitude.

May they always remember their relatives at the four quarters, and may they know that they are related to all that moves upon the universe.

Thanks Sisterfrens!! Wheeeee! This little girly is a BIZZY-BUTT, fershure!! OY! I'm having the TIME OF MY LIFE W/HER THUSFAR...but when oh WHEN might she need a small NAPPPPP?? I cannot help WONDERING!!

Murph was nearly 12 when he left for Hevvin...and I've FORGOTTEN how BIZZY these GOGGYS are when they are just one year old!! :)

Seymoure thought he'd find a safe-haven up on my bed awhile ago...remembering Murphy and his need for five or six 'tries' before finally getting up there...WELL....*DEETLE* DOES IT IN JUST ONE MINI-JUMPAROOOOOO!!! Boy! Was SEYMOURE ever SURPRISED at that one!! LOL!! I haven't laughed so much in MONTHS, Famblee!!

I called our Sandra, Mother to *CHIEFSTER*..she was CRACKING UP...'cause she raised Labs for YEARS...and kept saying, 'by age TWO they just suddenly MELLOW out and VOILE!! You've got yourself a WONDERFUL, PEACEFUL COMPANION...we BOTH laughed...because this one 'might' be a YEAR old is all!!! Omyyyyyyyyy!!

She's been outside two more times..of course, I go out first, to give the *HEADS-UP...THE DOG IS COMING OUTSIDE* to the squirrels..who, I am quite sure by now...have all spent MUCH time GRIMACING....as they think I've gotten ANOTHER dog....:/ And I do a 'quick oversee' to check for movement, as in the RATTLESNAKE department!! Thusfar, though...no snakes...and the squirrels all remember the drill...they scatter here/there/EVERYWHERE...then, after she's indoors, they carefully approach the yard and the feeders again!!

OK..she's got her nose under my elbow more..she's wanting the toy THROWN AGAINNNNNNNNN, PLEEEESE, AUNTY LYNNE!!

###Don't know about the rest of you, but if it were 110 at MY house during the day, I'd be standing under a tree with misters too. And sleeping on the cool grass at night.

###Busy little one-year-old doggers KNOW that "some people" haven't been getting their exercise. Ahem. My doggers are 2 and 4 and the 2-y.o. is keeping us ALL busy. The 4 y.o. is his mother and she was a chunk when she came here last February. She now RUNS everywhere because that's just "what doggers DO around here," or so she's been told. ;o)

Lynne, sounds like you're smitten ;o)

###Thanks for the shoulder warnings. I can do a lot of stuff as long as I keep my arms to my sides. I can do a pretty good "elbow fling" of the fork and mostly hit the bucket.

Busy day at work, plenty of happy people (because tomorrow is a holiday. Love them holidays).

Kathy B, Kay:) Yes....I'm very much enjoying this 'taste' of 'dogmomtime' today!! :)

She's FINALLY tuckered out...SLEEPING....:-O behind my chair in here...bless her heart! She's had a very BIZZZZZY morning.....terrorizing the kitteh...who, by the way, is STILL pasted to the bookcase!! She's had more than her fair share of little Milk Bones...been outside three times to do some 'business' and make a swift sniff of the surrounding yard out back...and NOT yet found the 'escape routes'...I don't give her time for that, I rattle the Milk Bones box..she comes a'running for that sound:)

All in all...it's been an enjoyable morning, Famblee...thanks for sharing it with me:) It's always so much more fun when we can share these 'esperiences' with frens:)

Lol: I guess you missed my post about this very thing. Amazing how we know each other, some of FoBs better than we think:

    I WROTE:
    **************************************************
    ((((((((((((((Barb & Freckles))))))))))))))))))

Somehow, I just KNOW , Barb, that you checked on your old gentleman on and off like a good mom. Having an animals in trouble is like having a newborn in the house...you never really sleep. Up and down, tip-toeing at times, but checking.

Hope your Farrier has some good ideas. And I am so glad to read the as of last night in AZ, Freckles--and you--seemed to be getting relief.

Keeping you in my thoughts, as usual:

    AND YOU WROTE:

" I am up during the night checking on him, so I have not been getting much sleep.

Whenever we are concerned about a loved one, two-legged or four-legged, it disrupts our whole schedule!"
    **************************************************

Hoping all continues well...caring for an ailing animals, it IS exhausting. But I am sure that Punky and Chunky are helping out as well as the kids...

reposting Bobbie B's, and my response. Inviting others to chime in as well.

    ## C J,

Are you still using the concept that its a national problem ,etc, when the aide seems dismissive after asking your zipcode ?

So many now seem to only care about their own constituents, and I feel sometimes that my message is being thrown to file 13.
How can we handle it ? Anybody got anything on this ? thanks,

Posted by Bobbie B. at July 2, 2009 5:48 PM [end crosspost from Comments]

Yes, I stick with - it's a national problem and horses from ALL OVER the US are getting shipped. And stolen. etc. And FYI I don't wait for them to ask my zipcode - my mantra is to open with, "Hi, my name is ______, calling from City-State, my zip is ________, and I'm hoping you will please take my QUICK input on a national issue." Perhaps volunteering my nonconstituent status makes them see me as being more candid than if they have to ask?

I don't think they put as much weight on non-constituent opinions, but they do take into account to SOME degree that ppl from all over the country want the law banning slaughter/export to pass.

And note please that you are still being asked to contact your OWN legislators who are as yet unsigned. We recognize that constitutent contact is most influential.

Forwarding this to some more knowledgeable than I to see their reaction/input, if any.

ttyl - thanks for the question, and for all that you do - love - CJ in Hammond IN

Maybe Murph wants you to set up a pet-watching service! I too have loved following the exploits of Miss Deetle. A young lab: the only thing more high-energy, a Golden, or a Jack...

    AND PEOPLES:
I found a canned puppy dogfood made by Purina--who has NEVER supported or condoned horse slaughter, and in the words of their PR woman at headquarters: "We never WILL support horse slaughter." She was quite adamant. Gotta love it.

So get out and buy that Purina stuff...

    DUH re Purina canned:

They do have a lamb and a beef canned also, but what I buy is chiukum, and I tried it to get my two old girls eating again...working very well so far.

They are verrrry picky. And will check out their bowls in the a.m., then walk to each other's bowls to be sure that "someone" is not getting "something different."

jonna, LOL, I think I did see that yesterday, was it? Sometimes I tend to post, then go back and read. And sometimes I don't read everything. It's a time management thing. Some days I don't even get here!

Thanks, jonna, and you are SO RIGHT. When one of our dependents is hurting, it is impossible to sleep!

Judy:) I'ts OK...Deet is a sweet girly..and she doesn't mind if you mistook her for a 'boy'...I don't think she'd ever hold a grudge against anyone!

She's been playing LOTS of fetch games...she brings me her toys and Murphy's too...drops them, with pleading eyes 'pllllleeeezzzzzzeeee' throw it for me? But then as you go to reach for the toy...omy!! LOL! Getting older, our skin 'thins' most especially mine on back of my hands..I've got band aids on my HANDS, Famblee!! I've got 'war wounds' from little Deetle...I'd forgotten about that with young ones, too! :) No matter they will heal:)

Hope everyone has had a good day today...I sure have:)

We only have about 24 more hours to raise the money for the SOS horses. Cisco has been outright adopted!!! Rose and Ruby, the mare and foal, still need a little over $150. There's a $60 match game on the table for Floppy. He still needs $210. Susie Q needs $720, Goose needs $645, and Lollipop needs $695. Kianne, the registered TB, still doesn't have a home offer.

    Please help if you can!

Nanny and the Deetle is now over , the Deetle has left the building.

    # Lynne, it was almost as good as a tv show.
Actually, dogs are better than tv,
but young ones, like you had, are more tiring !
    I vicariously enjoyed the fun.

Hiya, FsOB! I'm afraid that I have to work tomorrow, but shall be off on Monday. Unfortunately, Brent's schedule is the opposite. But that means that Ms. Nikita will have lots of company over the next four days.

Wendy, the Sir Spamalot dragon-slayer is needed for at the postings at 11:20 PM, 11:23 PM, 11:47 PM, and 11:49 PM. Some people obviously don't know how to spend their time in a productive manner, do they?

I do hope that Mine That Bird is linked with a jockey who will lavish him with lots of affection. Alex, any word on how Dunkirk, The Pamplemousse, and Quality Road are doing these days? I'd liked all of them in the pre-Derby months....

    #### To Janice: Nikita's pattern is the opposite from that which your dear Kaiser experienced. I think that she gets anxious now because the fireworks are fired by the Grucci Brothers right here on the Thames, adjacent to our home.
To Jonna: What a total hoot about the turkeys!!! Did you know that they also can experience parthenogenesis (i.e, virgin birth)? These offspring are always female. That's a good factoid to remember for Jeopardy or Trivial Pursuits!
To Lou Ann: Ms. Nikita sends love right back to you & Ms. Annie. She'd love to have some of your bracciole and lasagne, by the way.
To Bobbie B.: You should see the hair today on this Siciliana/Cherokee/Heinz 57 FOB! It got bigger with each passing hour due to the storms in our region, truly torrential rain & skies filled with thunderboomers!
To Barb: Much love to you & Freckles.
To Lynne B.: Loved reading about Deetle's visit today. What a lucky doggie to have you as a neighbour.
To Judy Scott: I hope that the lovely weather that greeted Canada on 07/01 heads south for 07/04! Is your son home from college for the Summer?
Has anyone heard from Maribel lately?
To Sandra: Much love to you & the Chief-ster from your FsOB here in CT. ####

I might have another chance or two to help them out by being a good 'dogaunty' sooner than later..so I'll keep yole up to snuff in the Dog Nanny Department if/when the time comes round again.

The SOS feedlot horses now need funds very badly. 2 of them have been outright adopted which really helped so it's all going the right direction. If anyone can help, it sure would be appreciated.
