Barbaro Updates: 745

updatesw are now here.

Update 4305: Another pleasaant morning's work at Woodbine, despite the chilly and damp weather. We had six sets again at Steve's, four before the break and two after the break that each went to the gate. Same schedule as yesterday, although some of the horses were different and some of the gallops were different. All went nicely, although my last one was a little "crazy" after she stood nicely in the gate. The weather can stir them up a little I guess! All in all a good morning to start the day!

Update 4304: Excellent "Making a Difference" report from NBC Nightly News: Saving Horses from the Slaughterhouse.

Commentator, who at seven years old is better than ever, is racing today at Churchill Downs in the Clark Handicap. He faces Magna Graduate and Einstein among others: Commentator, 7, gets faster with age.

Paulick Report continues it's daily thanksgiving theme this week: THANKSGIVING WEEK CHARITY FOCUS: SALVATION ARMY.

Hayyyyy, FOB's!!!

###
Am I first on this "White Friday"????? No more Black...hehe

Anyway, Alex, thank you for posting the link to Lorita's work at Suffolk Downs. She truly "makes a difference"...

###
It is cold here in Chester County, but hopefully the sun will shine some of that cold away. Will be going to Quest for a couple of hours tomorrow...need my "fix" of begin around the horses. The horses there have been communicating with me on beautiful levels that have helped me on my spiritual path and life purpose...all within the last month alone. And the kids....the kids I am with on the Thursday sessions continue to amaze me.

I will let you know when my new website is up..but I have a new e-mail address:

Hiya, FsOB! I am running late, but wanted to wish each of you a safe Friday. And why not add "TGIF" to that as well? I am hoping that I can get away from work earlier enough to drive to Mystic (technically half of it is within Groton, CT) to see a parade of boats this evening. Brent & I've never attended what must be an annual event. Thanksgiving was delicious and unusually relaxing for us this year. Peace, RMH

#### To Cheryl, I am sorry that you've been missing Reggie so much. But that is a sign of how deep the bond must have been for the two of you. I am certain that his love will never leave you, Cheryl. ####

Good Morning, All,

yesterday in my Thanksgiving remembrances I missed Molly the beautiful little walking horse...she lived with her family over 27 years, and left for the Rainbow Bridge around the same time as Frosty, and along with Frosty, also left on her own terms.

you angels are missed SO much....

please, everyone, if I have missed anyone, please post your remembrances....

Nov. 28 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

Cold wind and mist have pushed in to dampen the spirits of grownups--but not the children. These natural things are a part of their enjoyment during Thanksgiving weekend celebration.

The woods ring with voices and the sound of sword fights as rotten sticks collide in mid-air. No real duel could be this exciting or cause so many to roll in the leaves or hide behind the gnarled wild rose.

Evenings bring a rush of feet. Coyotes have set up their evening concert and the horned owl has squawled enough to impress them that it must be suppertime beside the fire. It has been a good day and something to remember thankfully.

I will tell you my people, and I believe it, it is not wrong for us to get this food.

Morning, ABR Famblee:)

Jonna: Your post this day reminded me IMMEDIATELY of Erma Bombeck's book, 'Family, The Ties That Bind and Gag'!! :) That book pretty much sums it all up and makes you laugh out loud, and maybe even shed a tear or two! Erma was a real gift to us all, wasn't she?!

Cheryl: I'm with you in your loss of Reggie, Cheryl...I know only too well the heartache you are feeling without your 'goggy'...((((cheryl))))

Alright, for any of you who might be braving the 'Shopping Trenches' this day...I wish you well...it's a mob scene out there, I am sure! Fortunately, the only stop I must make later this morning, is the grocery store! I'm thinking it won't be so 'bizzy' there.....doesn't it say that somewhere?!

Everyone, have a great and wonderful day today!

Alex: I tried to check on the MSNBC 'Saving Horses from Slaughter', but my dial-up would have me here waiting for the download from now til who knows when! I'll DVR to record later this evening, and will watch then!

I must say though, I am BEYOND DELIGHTED to know A MAJOR NEWS NETWORK PROGRAM WILL BE ADDRESSING THE ISSUE OF STOPPING OUR AMERICAN HORSES FROM SUCH AN 'END'....Hope we can all perhaps send along an email to thank them after the story runs....Keep that in mind, Famblee, PLEASE:)

Good Afternoon Gang.

Thanks for the Making A Difference link, Alex.

I am back in my pj's. I was up at 3AM to get my client to her 5AM dialysis appointment in the rain/ice/snow. I will act like a slob now. Eating leftovers, and dozing off.

I passed a WalMart twice today. YIKES!!! The parking lot was jam packed.

God Bless this Famblee. Keep them safe if they are out shopping, or trying to park there cars.

Posted by: MargieinNM at November 28, 2008 7:36 PM

Cheryl, what kind of dog are you getting?

Posted by: sandra at November 28, 2008 7:40 PM

Margie in NM, Hope Lucky had a good week and a good Thanksgiving. Every morning when I get up I always think of you and Lucky doing your happy dance. I hope you have many, many mornings of happy dances. ##One day Chief may be dragging around wheezing and panting and I about panic.(always whe the vet is closed) Then the next day he is getting into stuff like the trash, carrying a roll of toilet paper out through his doggy door and being his normal self. However, even on his best days when he tries to play a little he can only last a few minutes. But heck we will take the better days and be so grateful for them.

Posted by: sandra at November 28, 2008 7:50 PM

Margie, you mentioned about the Walmart parking lot being full. I heard over the news this morning that somewhere one of the walmart greeters got ran over and killed by some shoppers when they opened the doors. It is not a joke as it really happened. Here in Lubbock a lot of the stores opened at 4am this morning. Some slept outside all night. It got down to 28 degrees last night. One less worry this Christmas as I hardly have any money for gifts anyway. I noticed Chiefs vet bought a new suv. I figured Chief paid for most of it.

Cheryl, I'm happy to hear that you will be a mom to another furbaby. There is one little soul out there just waiting for you to love him/her. It's already been pre-destined, by a power none of us will ever understand, to whom you will give your love once again. And I'm certain Reggie is playing a hand in this as well.

When we lost Elly, our Border Collie, in 2007, Devon, a rescued, previously abused, then abandonded and homeless Border Collie was right in our home and hearts shortly thereafter. And when my beloved Sam passed in Sept 2005, Afleet Alex, my Siamese, soon took over my heart. None of them replaced the loves of the past, only enhanced my heart more. And, our loves in heaven are only a thought away, they're always right by our side.

What a lucky baby it will be that will have you as their mom.

Robyn, loved reading about your house guest, Zoe, and Nikita!

Blessings to all today.

THANK GOD FOR JOE:
(***************************************************)
Friday, November 28th...

We call him Diamond, and he shoved his butt in my face. I am thinking this is Thanksgiving, which means football, which means Diamond is going to kick me for 3 points. But Diamond was only showing me a piece of wire wrapped tightly around his right hind ankle. I went to our garage, found the wire cutters, back to the far south field, and snip snip Diamond became wire free. We keep our fields raked. How did this wire find Diamond? And how smart of him to show me.

Play Misty For Me will pick up her feed bucket and drop it on my shoes. Asking when do we get fed around this joint?

Garros eats his grain on three legs. He holds his right front leg high while eating.

Olympic Spirit squeaks when she eats. Like a mouse.

Pony Boy turns the dial on my radio. Almost daily. Always annoying.

In Other Worlds snores so loud you look down the street thinking a Harley is coming.

The old mare Gracie spends hours with her face in our living room window. Gracie is totally blind. She is no doubt waiting to hear who won that dancing show.

Duke Of Siam likes to poop into his water bucket. Two points.

We have a mare and there is a really good chance she will soon be euthanized. Thanksgiving night, cold, with thick fog to hide in. I find the mare and give her a special tub of grain. The mare sighs and lays her head on my shoulder. She knows. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful. And I am incredibly thankful she came to our ranch.

More than 110 horses waiting for Friday morning breakfast. Each horse so different. Visitors always ask, all these bay horses, how do you tell them apart? Easy. No two personalities the same.

Coming to us from a race track in Los Angeles a gelding named Unusual Jail. Allison Martino wants to call him Felony.

Coming to us from a feed lot in Wilton a thoroughbred gelding with a racing tattoo. 40 cents a pound. The gelding is 7, and scared to death of humans.

Coming to us from a lesson barn out of business an old quarter horse mare. The mare will only be with us long enough for a rerun of Law And Order. She goes to her new home in Reno later today.

Coming to us from another ranch out of business a gelding who loves trail riding. We are not sure of his breed. The gelding will only be with us long enough for a rerun of Mary Tyler Moore. He goes to his new home in Davis later today.

Coming to us from the same ranch out of business another gelding who loves trail riding. He is said to be half thoroughbred, half quarter. The gelding will only be with us long enough for a rerun of Malcolm In The Middle. He goes to his new home in Clear Lake tomorrow.

A big Thank You to Jennifer, Stephanie, Mike, and Nikki. Delivering holiday feasts to kids in the Sacramento area. The inside of their trucks smelled so good. Lots of our flies went with them.

Alicia Keys singing last night on television. Talk about being thankful.

I have a job at another ranch, earning the big bucks. My wife Cathy has a job. Talk about being thankful.

Enjoy your cold and foggy Friday, and be sure to hug your horses. Home is where the leftovers are...

Joe

Wal-Mart worker dies after crowd rushes store
Shoppers knocked him over, 'physically broke down doors,' police say
**************************************************
NEW YORK - A Wal-Mart worker was killed Friday after an "out of control" throng of shoppers eager for post-Thanksgiving bargains broke down the doors at a suburban store and knocked him to the ground, police said.

At least four other people, including a woman eight months pregnant, were taken to hospitals for observation or minor injuries, and the store in Valley Stream on Long Island closed for several hours before reopening.

Nassau police said about 2,000 people were gathered outside the store doors at the mall about 20 miles east of Manhattan. The impatient crowd knocked the man to the ground as he opened the doors, leaving a metal portion of the frame crumpled like an accordion.

"This crowd was out of control," said Nassau police spokesman Lt. Michael Fleming. He described the scene as "utter chaos."

Shoppers stepped over man
Dozens of store employees trying to fight their way out to help the man were also getting trampled by the crowd, Fleming said. Witnesses said that even as the worker lay on the ground, shoppers streamed into the store, stepping over him.

Kimberly Cribbs, who witnessed the stampede, said shoppers were acting like "savages."

"When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling 'I've been on line since yesterday morning,'" she said. "They kept shopping."

The 34-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., police said. The exact cause of death has not been determined. He was later identified as Jdimytai Damour of Jamaica, Queens.

Famblee....

Today, while driving to the market after running some other errands...I drove past the 'Doktur's' office/hospital...and thought of Murphy...and that last time I brought him there in October. I remembered his 'last walk' outside along the edge of parking lot where the doggys are supposed to 'walk' before going indoors...

Then, a little bit ago, I was searching for something in a cabinet in my bedroom...and came upon one of his toys he got last year on his Birthday...a little black/white Leopard Cub..with the most *NOISEY* growl if you squeeze, or in Murph's case, bite it's tummy...I made it 'talk' a couple of times...I could see where Murph's teeth had made a small hole in the covering. It got put up one night I think because he was on such a 'kick' of making it 'talk' and TV was being interrupted. Then, just before coming here to 'talk' to yole...I was straightening up the sofa throw...and a 'voice' told me to check under his cushion for cookies...Yep:) There are two small Milk Bones there....safely 'tucked' to save for later....I left them...geeze, Famblee...I am thinking Murphy has come to visit me today...one day last week, as I got into the car I noticed a Murphy Hair:) on my pant leg...I used to just 'brush them away', but I took that one and tucked it into the weave of my sweater...funny how those hairs can be such a 'nuisance' and then become such delightful 'treasures', isn't it? It also makes me quite sad these days, when cleaining out the lint filter from the dryer...there are no Murph hairs in it anymore:(

Well Murph, if you've come to visit your Mama...then you will find your cookies right where you left them, Sweetie:)

A belated "Happy Thanksgiving" everyone. I meant to get on yesterday but never had time. I spent most of the day cooking and cleaning up. In between those two there was a period of "sit down to eat".

This morning Canadian FOB, Donna, who has been in the sunshine state for a week, went on a trail ride with me and some friends. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. I got to ride my new love, Daily. He is just about the most gorgeous horse you've ever seen and quite a big boy. I am so grateful to his owner for letting me ride him. Donna rode Tag, a 20 year old mustang - quite a handsome boy too. Tomorrow morning Donna is going to meet me at the stable I volunteer every Saturday.

Good Night everyone!!
