Barbaro Updates: 737

updates are now here.

Update 4267: Today I drove through sleeting snow to go and ride our recent purchases from OLEX. We have three horses at another friend's farm, and wanted to get them ridden to assess them. All three rode very well. Smooch (Kiss My Hoof) is going to make a great trail horse. I had to kick him around the paddock to put him on the bridle. I guess he was serious when he was beaten nearly 50 lengths in one of his starts. His host (where the horses are stabled) is going to take him for her trail horse. The other two horses, which we bought from OLEX last week, also went nicely. One was bought by a person who was on hand to watch. The other, my favorite of the three, has potential to be a pretty nice sports horse I think. Anyway, all in all a fun and productive afternoon. I then returned to Woodbine and we had a winner.

Update 4266: It's official, Curlin will be retired to stand at stud for the 2009 season. They have not absolutely eliminated the possibility of him running one more time this year: Report: Curlin to Stand at Stud in 2009
.

A chilly morning this morning at Woodbine, but not as chilly as a little further north! I saw at least one car in the parking lot with snow on it's hood! We had seven sets, five before the break and two after the break. All galloped nicely. We then had a few sets of workers, with Jimmy McAleney and Carl (who is also a jockey and actually a very high percentage jockey) coming to work the horses. They also seemed to go well. Altogether not a bad morning's work, especially after getting back late last night from the Royal Winter Fair.

And what else did I miss last night, Somebeachsomewhere doing his usual stuff, winning, at Woodbine: SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE, THE REST NOWHERE.

Update 4265: Zenyatta will return to the races next year: Unbeaten Zenyatta to remain in training in '09.

Another very pleasant visit to the Royal Winter Fair yesterday. We had planned to watch the major show jumping competition, but that started very late. We did wait to watch the show jumpers warm up, which itself was very interesting. We also watched a few classes of heavy horse teams, a four horse dressage display (very cool) and a hackney class. All very interesting and different from our own sport!

Update 4264: Off to the race and then back to the Royal Winter Fair!

Update 4263: A cool article on Yael Gottesman, who is a young lady helping to end horse slaughter here in Canada: Yael's Quest.

Update 4262: Wet, wet, wet! And Wet! A dreary morning this morning, but thankfully not too cold! We had nine sets at Steve's, five before the break and four after the break. Given the wet conditions, everything went nicely. We had a new rider start this morning. April. Very cool, seems like she will be a good hand. She also does some work rehabbing and reselling retired racehorses, and providing riding lessons on retired racehorses. Very cool. All in all a decent morning's work despite the wet conditions.

We have a couple of runners in the 2yo fillies stake this afternoon so hopefully it will be a fun afternoon: Juliet's Spirit a mystery off last.

Update 4261: Michael Matz trainee Chelokee, who suffered a career ending injury many months ago, will stand at stud at Vinery for next season for $7,500: Chelokee to Stand at Vinery.

Fair Grounds meet opened yesterday and we won the opener with a horse we had up here for a while: Stormy West Wins as Fair Grounds Opens.

Good Morning Famblee,
Today is, for me, a somber day. I have nothing inspiring or witty to say. I tried to think of something, but when I saw what today is, I couldn't. You see, 18 years ago today a murder was committed. The act was committed 18 years ago last night, but today is the anniversary of the day the great Alydar died. We know the story so I won't go into it here. Say a prayer please in rememberance of Alydar. A life stolen from all, not just Alydar.

Hay, FOB's!

###
Lee, my prayers for the shining soul of Alydar...who is very close to you so open your heart to the message...:)

###
Alex, great news about Chelokee...and Happy Early Birthday...:)

###
There has been a quietness in the last 2 days for me...and I have felt the beautiful spirits of those horses who have crossed the Bridge - Barbaro (of course), LITF (dearest one), Pine Island, Gallant Secret and Casey (who continues to teach me and help me as I do my Light Work - many blessings to you for being such a wise teacherhorse). When they come to me, I cry because of the love that flows out of my heart...and they love all of us...all of us...even those who have killed some of them.

###
I don't know if I told the board, but Ravi crossed the Bridge 12 days ago. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and began having seizures...and his beautiful human Laura could not bear to have him suffer. Could I have prayers for Laura, Ravi and Laura's horse, Legend - who is showing his communicating strengths to me over the last couple of weeks. He is boarded at Quest Therapeutic next to a horse who could be his twin - Rick. Both of them have helped open my heart while I help them right back...

You are all the greatest...

Good morning, fellow Fans.

It's a Lost in the Fog kind of day here in the Downeast and has me remembering all the brave horses we have lost, including Alydar. I took a stroll through the pictures in the Blue tab at the top the other day and had an emotional trip looking at all the photos of Barbaro just enjoying his life at Fair Hill. That surely was a great time.

Now I am steeling myself for picking up the good fight again when Congress returns. I feel a small sliver of hope...and hope is the one gift that keeps on giving. I will be here.

Padme,
My prayers for Laura, Legend and Ravi. Blessings for dear Laura for having the courage and love for Ravi to let him go.

I will try my best to listen for Alydar's message.

Thank you fren. You are a wonderful person and have taught me a great deal. You are one of the oh so many voices of comfort and grace in this famblee.

(FROM DB)

URGENT: Need help with feed for 13 WB's

Here is the story.......

I was contacted by Chez Chavez to see if I could help a guy with his mothers 13 Dutch WB's. His mother was stricken with a very aggressive for of Uterine cancer 6 months ago...Her one true love in her life was her horses. They are all Dutch Wambloods and she at one time competed in Dressage & Jumping with them. For the most part, the horses are 18-20 years old. 2 of them are completely lame due to injuries, (1 as a 2 year old and is now 20 years old...she never once considered "getting rid" of them because they were of no use to her). The others are in pretty good condition other then they have not had farrier care for several months and are in desperate need. I have removed 6 of them so far and have 7 more to go. It is an hour and a half drive each direction and having only a 3 horse trailer.... I have already placed 2, have someone coming to look at another and may have a couple others going to be lesson horses for a gal that teaches hunter/jumper & dressage to 4-H kids.

We are in DESPERATE need of feed and farrier help. 13 warmbloods is going to deplete our entire hay stack very fast and my husband is about to have a nervous breakdown over it. We have access to very good hay at $200.00 per ton. We figure we will need another 10 ton at the least. I will contact our hay guy and see if he will give us a break because of the "rescue" part of this. I am also going to contact a hay comapny to see what (if) they can do anything for us.

Donations can be made via paypal to illusion@centurytel.net or can be mailed, (please email for address)

Joan,

Mare and foal are safe due in large part to your and Curtis' generosity last night!

Thank you so much, and all who helped keep them off that truck!

From the Kentucky Derby Museum. Check out the date at the bottom...

Barbaro in a place of honor
(Coming Soon)

Barbaro- a horse named after a dog featured in an old painting found in the attic of a relative. A horse with a name that will long be remembered as an icon that captured the hearts of horse fans around the world. Now, a horse who will be memorialized at the site of his greatest race… although perhaps further revered for his greater strength in the face of injury.

One year after Barbaro's death (on January 29th, 2007) his owners and breeders, Roy and Gretchen Jackson, announced that he will be buried here at Churchill Downs at the front entrance of the Kentucky Derby Museum. The Jacksons will commission a larger than life-size bronze to commemorate his great racing success and pay tribute to his amazing story.

The Jacksons had been considering alternate sites for Barbaro's remains but ultimately decided there was only one right choice, “We felt a real sense of wanting to make the correct decision,” Gretchen Jackson said. “It took a heck of a long time. I don't know why it did, but we just wrestled with it for quite some time.”

“After the Derby and then when he got injured, he really became America's horse,” Roy Jackson added. “We sort of felt an obligation that his remains and statue be erected someplace where the general public could pay their respects.”

“In the year that has just preceded, we have spent much time thinking about Barbaro's memorial and where it would be best placed. Churchill Downs became the obvious site for us. It was here that he ran his best race. It was here where we spent our most memorable day as horse owners and breeders. It was here where his racing fans could visit daily,” said Gretchen Jackson.

Barbaro will be remembered for his six first place finishes, including the Derby which he dominated by 6 _ lengths. Two short weeks later with rumblings of Triple Crown possibilities at a full roar, he shattered his leg in the Preakness. The heroic struggle that followed created a swell of national attention and support for this racing champion.

“My memory is Barbaro running down the stretch with all four feet off the ground,” Roy Jackson said.

Look for a special exhibit inside the Kentucky Derby Museum at the open of the spring race meet (late April) to chronicle Barbaro's life.

JOE FOR THOSE WHO AWOKE TO A POWER FAILURE, FED HOUNDS, LOOKED AT CRAPPY RAINY ICKY UPSTATE NY MID NOVEMBER DAY AND FEEL PROMPTLY BACK TO SLEEP:
**************************************************
Saturday, November 15th...
Winds finally quit around 3:00 this morning, and our ranch looks like a bomb went off. The ranch where I have employment (earning the big bucks) is also a mess, so the morning journal will be a condensed version of my usual stuff. I must feed our ranch, feed another ranch, stop at Starbucks for a tall vanilla cream dribbled with caramel and an extra shot of caffeine. A recipe from our friend Lindsey, and you can take a look at Lindsey below on bottom right. I like to add whip cream to my cup, but Lindsey goes without. A chocolate glazed doughnut is a nice touch, but now we are on a whole other subject, and where was I? Oh yeah, so after feeding two ranches I must drive to Vacaville and approve a family for a sight unseen horse. Then I drive to the town of Winters so I can meet a girl and her mom, and they too would like a horse. Chores on two ranches will eat up the remaining part of daylight, and by 4:00 supper feeding begins. A crockpot kind of day, thanks to Jodi Tuft who put me in the mood. Some shrimp, asparagus, mushrooms, green onion, a little olive oil, and a few shakes of spicy red pepper. Serve over white rice with salad (blu cheese dressing) and dinner is ready. Total prepare time is less than 5 minutes. It takes longer to whip up a bucket of special supplements for our new skinny gelding Levi. And suddenly I have turned into Martha Stewart. Stay tuned next week for my rhubarb pie recipe. And I can show you how to get those annoying cat pee smells out of your pillow.

So it is now time to begin cleaning this disaster of a ranch. And spend some time with an old thoroughbred mare who came to us from a feed lot, and she is uncertain about her new surroundings. Alicia Keys on the cd player. Later we could be a just right 75 degrees. A beautiful weekend on the way...

Nov. 15 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

Walking in a garden is little different from walking into a room full of people. Color, shape, size, all play a part--and the more varied, the greater the interest.

Only a few dominate the garden, and they are not always the prettiest. Some are herbs and serve as good medicine, while others stand in pretty little groups and dance in the breezes.

Each of us is a part of the garden. Do we add or detract? Are we fragrant or do we require sunlight or can we survive in the shade? Do we need constant attention or are we perennial--faithful to our place and doing our best to bloom?

Two branches of the ancient Cherokee family....it has become essential to the general welfare that a union should be formed.

It's muddy at Aqueduct and sloppy at Philadelphia Park - many scratches. Hope for all to stay safe. So far so good . . .

Commentators at TVG are saying that Graham Motion confirmed Friday that Better Talk Now will be coming back to the track for his 10 yr old season. Good old trooper!

Also that Zaftig was retired after a career-ending training injury (torn suspensory) - rehab at an Equine Clinic and then (hopefully) off to stud.

and now back to watching the races!

Hiya, FsOB! It's an odd day, weatherwise, on the banks of the Thames. It's overcast, unseasonably warm, and quite gusty. You should see how choppy the river is, blowing upstream. And yet i could swear that the weather forecaster said that CT could see some snowflakes on Monday. Argh!

Alex, what an inspiring young woman Yael Gottesman is! Thank you for also bluelinking us to the story about Chelokee's now standing stud back in KY.

Wishing each of you a wonderful weekend. May all horses and their riders stay safe! Peace, RMH

#### To Janice, thank you for reposting the poem yesterday morning that Lou Ann had shared on the previous night. I am very pleased that it brought you and Tamme some measure of comfort as you both deal with the passing of Kaiser and Chessie.
To Mary S.: I am sure that Sherman's spirit will be with you as you begin your riding lessons.
To Sofie's Lee: My sympathies as you grapple with the anniversary of Alydar's death. My late Father loved Alydar.
To Padme: Thinking of you, Laura, and Legend.
To Debbie LA: Welcome back, Debbie, and thank you for the blue links to Joe Shelton's daily blog.
To MJ: Great article about the planned celebration when Barbaro's memorial is opened at Churchill Downs next Spring. ####

Everyone:
I could only read through the DB once today. Everyone is suffering from this heinous economy. I just had to tell a freelance client I won't invoice her till she and her dh get back on their feet.
They're looking around for stuff to sell on eBay...

So we are all in the same boat, as best I can tell.
But please--if you have an extra buck or $5 laying about--check your pockets!--please choose a horse rescue group and send this money to them.

Some days, I am sure, we cannot see the end of this financial crisis around us, but the dogs, the horses: they know nothing of our world, except that they are being abandoned, starved, or sold for their flesh.

Try, please try to pick a group and send them something--anything--to help them bail out these horses.

I am asking from the heart...I know we will get through all this. We will survive. This is a great country. We have been so trashed for the past eight years, now we must show that we can still stand and fight--for ourselves, for the animals...

There is a rescue right down the thruway from me. I don't know what went down the tubes there, but there are so many horses at Horsefeathers at risk. And I can't really do anything to help.

I want to put the pillow over my eyes right about now in everyday, and ask God to just shove me forward to night and then up the next day. To keep trying.

I lub my FoBs...each and every one of you. I send love and support and prayer for all who are in need. Today, all I wanted was my Jessie back. As Lynne says about Murphy, "I just want him back."

Hay, FOB's...

The weather here in Chester County is strange. It is unseasonably warm and we are under a tornado watch until 7 p.m. tonight. This watch includes some portions of Delaware and Maryland - New Castle County and Cecil County are two of the areas included....this includes Fair Hill, Newark and in PA, New Bolton.

May this system pass by and cause no harm and bring the sunlight back...

I want to share something – I am a private person – but my love for Sherman, your love for Sherman – makes this easier for me to do……maybe it will help someone - other than me.

It is turning cold here… for days it has rained – I have been thanking God that Sherman was not in the mud – in the rain – now in the cold….. his leaving was never going to be easy, but best before the cold.

Remember when I told him that day in the arena - over and over again – I love you, I love you, and I will never leave you…. He told me that just now– he repeated my words to him – over and over again I heard him say them…... And he said he was ready – he was excited – that is why the animation that last morning. I haven’t been able to hear him often – I think because my grief and the emotion has blocked communication. I have a fire going – and I just sat in the quiet – no thoughts – no fear about any of it….just stillness. I could handle that now - I wanted that now......

I truly believe our animals have seen heaven – they know. And he said it is my choice if I hold on to the guilt or fear about not doing enough….. there is no way I will ever know – but through him – I believe I heard it was enough – and that I didn’t do anything wrong – and I have to believe that.

I had a very important conversation once – a woman asked me if I believe animals have a soul – she said her belief was that the Catholic church (she is Catholic) does not believe an animal has a soul…. I told her (being raised Catholic) I felt the church had been wrong before – and that she was witnessing a great testament to an animal’s soul…. We both smiled – sometimes you just know. And please, this is not me saying anything negative about the church, or anyone’s beliefs – only testament to what I think we all know – they are great sprits – all of them. It is an honor to be chosen to take this walk with them.

I am beginning to collect my thoughts. I want to post about the things I did to try to help Sherman….. in hopes it might help someone else…. none of these things saved him - This was a freight train that I could not stop – no one could stop for whatever reason. I do believe the homeopathics, the oils, Healing Touch, even the last pads I used, did give him some comfort - I know they gave him time…..I do believe Sherman had the time to complete his journey – because of my love for him, because of the FOB, because of Dr. Schroeder. We couldn’t stop the end – but what happened before the end, all of it - was important for Sherman – and for me.

My love to all of you – my gratitude.

Love, Light and Protection for All of Our Horses

just heard from Stephanie at MHR who reports that Spirit is doing great after being gelded today (Saturday), and says that links to pics and a video are up at the Jerri-Apple-Nellie thread at the DB.

and an email just came in reporting that Curlin has been retired (per Ray Paulick) - here's what it says -

Paulick Report has posted a new item, 'THE END...CURLIN TO RETIRE'

By Ray Paulick

Curlin will be retired to stud in 2009 to a yet-to-be-determined farm and his racing career is over unless an appropriate venue and purse are offered for one more race, the reigning Horse of the Years majority owner Jess Jackson said.

In a press release distributed late Saturday night, Jackson said offers from

Mary S. - Thank you so much for your message tonite. Because of what you've said ........ I feel so much more peaceful that I have in a long time ...... for you and for me ......... and for all of the losses so many of us have experienced recently. I have no doubt that animals have souls and that we are touched by them .... and their incredible wisdom. And - I do not doubt for a second that IF we stop to listen .... that we will often hear this wisdom that our animals are willing to share. It has happened to me with the animals I am fortunate enough to have in my life now - and those who have gone on ahead.
I am so pleased that you have come to this place in your journey - where you are now able to step away from the continual pain ........ you are a courageous and loving soul - and I'm honored to be a part of your famblee ! Sherman was so fortunate to have selected you as his Mom.
Hugs from Sherry and Amigo in Arizona

Dearest Frens Padme and Dee,
I address this directly to you both (and indirectly to every FOB) because yesterday I believe you both had special impact (along with a certain Big Boss Horse). I say that because Padme, you encouraged me to listen for what Alydar had to tell me. I'm not sure yet what his message was, but I'm still trying to be open. I'm not a very spiritual person, so it may be awhile before I realize what he told me. Although, I have an inkling of a feeling he was just saying "Thank you for remembering me." And I thank you for being you and being here in this famblee.
Dee, you Angel! Everyday you send rainbows to the FsOB. I'm always grateful and warmed by your words. A special Thank You to you for the rainbow you sent. I think you put in a word with Barbaro and Alydar didn't you?
You see famblee, yesterday was a rainy, cool, yucky day here in Northern Virginia. I went with my fiance to visit her mother, who is in a nursing home. I really didn't want to, but for my love, I did. On the way home, I decided to try a "new route" and, this is in a very developed area, not much open space, we turned a corner and coming out of the trees , it had stopped raining, there was a rainbow with the widest bands of colors I have ever seen. My fiancee couldn't see it, was it just for my eyes? Perhaps, but then there was a open field immediately past the rainbow and in the field, there were three! beautiful bay Horses.
Sorry for rambling on a bit, but yole Get It. So, to Dee and Padme and the rest of this incredible famblee, from the depths of my heart I say Thank You.
NO Horse left behind or EVER Forgotten!

Good Morning Peoples:
Hang in there, it has to get better.
We are forecast for snow today and in the next week.

I wonder how much punch we can generate for HR6598 in the middle of the Passing of W and the Inauguration of Barack. So many crushing things need to be fixed.

I still think we need a damned Lobbyist on the Hill, but that's just me. Sigh:

This on the front page of MSNBC'S webpage:

RENO, Nev. - A stampede of opposition is growing over a proposal by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to kill or allow unrestricted sale of wild horses captured from western public land because of budget constraints.

Tens of thousands of horse advocates have voiced outrage at the idea of slaughtering what many revere as romantic symbols of the American West.

"Most Americans view these horses as the greatest symbols of our American freedom," said Ross Potter of Phoenix.
Story continues below ↓advertisement | your ad here

"If we kill them now without exhausting all other possibilities, we are telling the world that we have no respect for our own heritage," he said in a recent letter to the BLM. "I don't think that is an image we can afford to project."

The BLM's nine-member National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board is scheduled to consider the proposal at a meeting Monday in Reno.

About 33,000 wild horses roam the open range in 10 Western states. The BLM has set a target "appropriate management level" of horses at 27,000.

Many critics say inept bureau management created the problem that has led to nearly as many horses being kept in long-term corrals as remain on the range.

Protecting animals
Karen Sussman, president of the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros, said the BLM has never considered the health of herds when conducting roundups.

She and others say large-scale roundups upset a herd's social hierarchy, leading to unchecked breeding that threatens their gene pool and accelerates population growth.

"They are mandated by law to protect these horses for American citizens. They have not done that," she said.

"And now, on the backs of these horses that should never have been removed, they want to kill them."

Critics also argue that, when it comes to public land, wild horses get short shrift to the benefit of livestock and wildlife. They claim that since 1971 about 20 million acres originally designated as herd areas have been withdrawn from that use. They say reopening those areas to horses would alleviate the need for boarding.

"While forage and water are rarely an issue for the established livestock and big game interests, these same resources are almost always portrayed as being too little for the relatively tiny members of our nation's remaining wild horses and burros — who are too often scapegoated for ecological destruction caused ultimately by man," wrote Craig Downer, a wild horse ecologist.

A report issued last week by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, said the BLM needs to consider euthanizing horses or selling them to reduce spiraling costs of keeping them in long-term holding pens.

Declining demand
Wild horses and burros are protected under federal law. Most captured horses are placed for adoption, but those deemed too old or otherwise unadoptable are sent to long-term holding facilities — some for 15 to 20 years.

The BLM says demand for horses has declined, and the cost of caring for geriatric equines is devouring its budget.

The GAO report said costs of caring for wild horses likely will account for 74 percent of the program's overall budget this year, or more than $27 million. That percentage will climb, it said, unless alternatives are found.

Continuing current practices would require a budget of $58 million next year, escalating to $77 million in 2012, the BLM estimated.

The BLM already has authority to use euthanasia for horse management but has been reluctant to do for fear of public backlash.

"We have a responsibility to balance the budget, so we are going to have to make some tough choices," BLM Deputy Director Henri Bisson said when the proposal was first aired in June.

"We don't want to do this at the last minute. So we need to have a conversation with horse advocates and try to share the pain a little bit so people understand that if we have to make those tough changes it's not because we want to," he said.

YOU GOT IT!!!!! I'm sitting here crying and smiling thru my tears...

Many times when I have heard of a horse spirit leaving its body, I open my heart and just pour out my love...

and it is then that I see rainbows. Nobody else sees them...it happened back in November when Fancy was euthanized at New Bolton...15 minutes after she left, I saw it around the sun...but her owner didn't. The rainbow was there all the way back to the apt. and I saw it again the following afternoon.

It will not be the last message you receive. Let Alydar nudge you and open you...it will be worth it, I promise you.

GOD BLESS THE SHELTONS AND ALL THE RESCUERS.
***************************************************
Sunday, November 16th... The other day I wrote about a fancy black and white little filly waiting for slaughter at the feed lot in Wilton. She is only 5 months old. We arranged a new home for the filly, and later came 7 e-mails from readers of Tbfriends. They too would like to rescue a weanling.

Yesterday horse killer John Capers phones to say he has a black little filly with 4 white socks. She is 7 months old, and a whopping $125.00 to rescue. The first e-mail was from a lady in Stockton. I told her we need $125.00 for the filly, and $75.00 for transportation. I can have the filly to you later today, so please give the money to our horse hauler. The horse hauler shows up with the filly, and the lady hands over $500.00. She says use this extra money to save another horse. Well okay then.

On the phone with horse killer Manny Phelps, and he has a thoroughbred gelding who has been off the track for quite a while. The gelding is thin and lame. 40 cents a pound, which comes to $340.00. The giant stock trailer to slaughter in Canada was leaving last night. 15 doomed horses, most from ranches out of business. But the thin and lame thoroughbred gelding was spared, thanks to the very generous lady in Stockton. The thin and lame gelding comes to us later today.

There is the nicest family in the world living in Vacaville. Dad, mom, two daughters, two dogs, bunches of cats, and a black rabbit who loves peaches. Dad gives me his old digital camera. Mom gives me a pan. She says I will love cooking with this pan. One of the daughters is 11, and she had written a letter to Cathy and I. She tells me not to read her letter until I get home. It is a novel. Bigger than a dictionary. She writes of her love for animals, especially horses, and what a horse would mean to her family.

This part of her letter I am allowed to share. Here we go: I know you are busy. But could you come check on us and make sure we are doing everything right with our horse. We read books and study hard. Our friend in Davis gave me 5 riding lessons, and it was so much fun. My dad got another job working nights at Christmas for extra money. I promise we will love our horse no matter who you send us. He can be a monster and we will love him. I want to read him books at night. He will be the cleanest horse in the world cause I will brush him for hours. My sister and I are so excited. We want it to be a horse who was going to die. My sister and I want to do good in this world.

Ah, we have just the right horse for this family. He will be delivered next weekend. Their brand new horse shelter is almost ready. And later today, for Sunday dinner, I get to use a new pan.

Tbfriends has access to more than 60 horses who need new homes. These horses are thoroughbreds, and they come from ranch foreclosures and private homes. All are free, and I do the screening. We also take care of transportation. My cell is 530-383-2120. The horses range in age from 4 to 25.

Enjoy your 73 degree Sunday, and be sure to hug your horses.

Joe

Hiya, FsOB! Thanks to Mary S., Sofie's Lee, Angle Dee, Jonna, and Padme for your beautiful reflections on the love of animals.

I believe that animals have souls and I also believe in reincarnation. In fact, I think that my dear Nikita has part of my Nina's soul residing in her. I wish that you all could see Nikita right now, recumbent on the sofa in our home office. She's gazing out of the bay windows at the road and the river, a real vision of peace & contentment. We just got back from a walk; I collected pine cones to add to the wood-burning stove this week. We are expecting a drastic cold snap here on the banks of the Thames this coming week.

Here's to a good new week for us all. To Wendy & Alex, this weekend the site has been overrun with some really disgusting spamming. I am sorry that you both have to deal with something so noxious. Alex, for your ongoing commitment to this site, I thank you! Peace to all of you, RMH

Hi CJ - Lucille answered this question on another thread. AWI is handling it. They are in the process of inspecting and approving farms and getting things such as barbed wired fences removed. The program will be handled by AWI and not the NBFA.

Lauren [end of cross-post]

I found this info of assistance in my processing the apparent stall in our progress.

I am confident about the eventual outcome - and I firmly believe it will be sooner than later.

Mary S..........
This in response to your comment below....

..."I had a very important conversation once – a woman asked me if I believe animals have a soul – she said her belief was that the Catholic church (she is Catholic) does not believe an animal has a soul…. I told her (being raised Catholic) I felt the church had been wrong before – and that she was witnessing a great testament to an animal’s soul…. We both smiled – sometimes you just know. And please, this is not me saying anything negative about the church, or anyone’s beliefs – only testament to what I think we all know – they are great spirits – all of them. It is an honor to be chosen to take this walk with them..."

The Bible doesn't spell out "exactly" about individual types of animals in the the afterlife. However..I've got to rationalize that so many references to horses in "Revelations" confirms to me that horses are there. Also in another section of the Bible..there is a reference that "all" creatures under the water, in the air , and on the earth will be saved.... We will find out when we get to Heaven and learn all the answers.
Just have FAITH in Him and you will eventually...."know"!

Alex, may you have a Blessed life forever, for all you do, for your bravery, and for saving those horses.

Some of you know that I work at a pet resort on the week ends. My 'job' is exercising and playing with the canine guests. All day. Both days. The leaping at me head on basically destroys me, but it is such fun that I don't care. And most are big dogs. One boy, Chico, has been there for 10 days. He looks exactly like my Jose, who passed away 2 years ago. He needs his ear cleaned and drops put in every day. Today I was in his suite with him, tending to his ear. There, a connection was made, and he was staring up at me and I told him I loved him. I held his face in my hands and kissed his forehead. His stare into my eyes was intense. Hard to describe. I forgot to check his birthdate, but it sure makes you wonder if departed souls come back to us.

One thing for sure, as our hearts get broken by fur children who have left, we still have PLENTY of love left, and there are many out there just waiting to come into our lives. Just waiting for the love we can give them.

Keep going. Good Night, Famblee. Love and prayers for all.

LONG day. The horse show went well. Punky got a second place in her trail class. Not too shabby. We came out with a reserve High Point for the day. Also not too shabby! What's funny is that we compete with horses who cost tens of thousands of dollars. The most I ever paid was $900. Several of ours even have papers. You don't need to pay the outrageous prices if you are willing to put some time into the training.

I've got a horse trailer to unhitch and a bunch of tack to put away.

Love you folks.
