Barbaro Updates: 735

updates are now here.

Update 4257: Back from the Royal Winter Fair. And what a great event it was. We (Alison and I) went for most of the afternoon, so skipped the evening events. We were fortunate to arrive in time to watch some international show jumping. Nick Skelton and Michael Whitaker were competing! Don't these guys ever retire? I was waiting to see if Geoff Billington was going to make an appearance! We also watched another show jumping class. It was very cool to watch these horses do their stuff. Much different to our own discipline and as impressive for sure. There were many types of horses at the events, and conspicuous by their absense were the thoroughbreds. Alison thought that it would have been a good opportunity for Long Run to have a booth. Absolutely! Another cool thing about the horse events is you can go "behind the scenes", where the horses are stabled and warm up. Kind of like being on the backside of the racetrack. They also have a bar there ...

Lots of horse stuff, but the highlight of the afternoon were the Superdogs, and the fudge!

Update 4256: Wet, wet, wet! That was the weather this morning at Woodbine. Fortunately it was not too cold. We had ten sets today at Steve's, so quite busy. Six went before the break and four after the break. Two of mine also went to the gate for some schooling. All galloped nicely for a hassle free morning. One of our riders is leaving this weekend, which is a bummer. I went recruiting for a new rider for the rest of the meet. Hopefully I have found the right person!

Now off to the Royal Winter Fair!

Update 4255: Aidan O'Brien won the final Group 1 race in Europe, bringing his tally of Group 1 wins to 23 this year, just two shy of Bobby Frankel's record of 25: O'Brien Gets Last Group I of Euro Season.

Fair Grounds meet gets underway tomorrow, and will offer $300,000 in daily overnight purses. It should be the toughest and best racing of the winter meets: Record Purses For Fair Gounds Meet.

Good morning everyone.

Good morning Barbaro

Hiya, FsOB! Alex, might you head south to New Orleans to work at Fair Grounds, by any chance? What a great city - NOLA! It you do venture there, let the good times roll or as the natives say, "Laissez le bon temps roulez!".

Wishing everyone a safe & productive day! Who'll be first today? Let's hope it won't be a spammer. Let's see....

#### To CJ: My sympathies to you and Fred as you deal with the passing of Fred's Dad.
To Harriette: I hope that you & Jackson Browne are doing better today.
To Janice: Keeping you & Denny in my heart on this Thursday.
To Mary S.: We're all thinking of you, Mary. I hope that having Sherman's remains with you has brought some comfort. ####

Kudos to Paul (and not a spammer) for being our first poster of the day!

Good Morning Barbaro Nation.

Anyone know the status of the remaining horses on the "Top Bunk" List? Where they are at, etc?

Denise

Posted by: D. Masters at November 13, 2008 11:51 AM

Good morning, dearest FoBs:
Why am I watching the news? Even locally it sucks, AND our weatherman advised us to enjoy the next several days because next week, our weather will
"fall off the map." Doesn't that sound enticing?

Ok, yole, one step in front of another. We'll survive, we'll get it done. We'll hold each other's hands and hearts.

Good Morning, all,

Bright Futures Farm is desperately trying to save a family of Belgians today - if you are able to help, please see on DB:

"URGENT-headed to Sugarcreek Friday"

Thank you!

Good morning, fellow Fans!

Cool and cloudy here in the Downeast today. I think our weather is forecast to fall off the map, too, Jonna. I seem to remember rain and thunder as distinct possibilities for the weekend, followed by a sharp cool down...a cold down, perhaps. Ah, well, 'tis the season!

###Robyn - You made the same connection I did - it seems likely that Alex will end up in Nolo.

Wishing all a peaceful day. Be gentle with yourselves.

Thanks Robyn - you're right about Thursdays. I know I'll forget eventually.

Have a great day everyone and let's pray for the economy of this country. If things don't improve soon, we'll be seeing thousands more homeless animals.

JOE: Thursday PART ONE
**************************************************
Thursday, November 13th... I like what Hailey has to say in her e-mail. Hailey is only 12, and she writes: My parents provide the boundaries. My horse provides the wide open.

It is Thursday, with another 70 degree day on the way. Hot coffee is from Starbucks. At Raleys they have a Claimjumpers banana cream pie on sale for $6.99. Unbelievable stuff. Natasha from England on the radio, and I forget her last name. More than 125 horses on our ranch. I could go outside and count for an exact number, but inside with pie and coffee is a much better place to be. The sun is almost here. Horses in both barns, round pens, and the mare motel have already been grained. Porky Pig has received her good morning apple. Roscoe the rooster has received his good morning slice of bread. 659 feral cats are fighting for a spot next to the big cat feeder. Maggie Macaw begins each day with a walnut to crack. You must remember first thing each morning to put our old dog Daisy outside, or she will potty next to our washing machine.

more to come

Tbfriends has access to more than 70 horses, mostly thoroughbreds, and they come from ranch foreclosures, partial ranch reductions, and private homes. These horses are free, and I do the screening. Tbfriends also provides transportation. The thoroughbreds range in age from 3 to 25. My cell is 530-383-2120. If you can provide a good home to one of these horses, give me a call. If I do not answer leave a message, and you will hear back from me the same day.

Morning, ABR Famblee..

Janice...I cannot imagine you will ever 'forget', and I cannot imagine I will, either.

I got the *MURPHY* collage put together yesterday afternoon, and it's hanging 'prominently' so I can see it when sitting on 'our' sofa!

Only fifteen slots to fill, so it did take a bit of 'figgering out' which fifteen to use! I could fill another ten of those frames, easily! However, I did manage to capture those twelve years, from him being an 'itty-bitty' boy to a 'great-bigger' boy:)

This morning, while cleaning out the lint filter in the dryer...with NO doggy hairs in it:( I realized the throw has been on the sofa for one month tomorrow...and then I was 'gobsmacked' over that revalation....'cause for a sofa throw to be on that sofa for ONE MONTH is absolutely UNHEARD OF:(

Life just keeps happening all around us, no matter what we are going through...I had a very dear fren tell me once, 'it isn't over 'til we die, Lynne.' Just one of her 'pearls' I've kept with me all these years!

I am trying really hard to focus on the part about how fortunate I was to be Murphy's Mama for twelve years....but I wrote to him recently and said I so enjoyed him being my doggy, I wished we could do it all over again:) If only....

JOE PART TWO/THURSDAY
(COULD WE JUST PUT OUT A HIT ON MANNY PHELPS AND GET IT OVER WITH?)(Well, of course, all the rest of them too.)
****************************************************

I like what Annie has to say in her e-mail. Annie is 13, and she writes: A trainer at the track gave me my Blue. I love him so much. Blue started 5 races and only won $1,250.00. But to me he is worth fifty million dollars.

The sun is here, and now horses in both north and south fields have been given their alfalfa. Cathy drives the tractor and I toss from the trailer. Cathy showers, and leaves for her office job. I get to stay right here, boring you silly, with more coffee and pie. The Sacramento Bee has yet to be delivered. Many days it never comes. There goes their Christmas tip. Jordan Sparks on the radio.

I like what Meghan has to say in her e-mail. Meghan is 14, and she writes: It can be pouring rain and he stands outside. Nice sunny days and he comes inside. My goofy gelding. If I were a poet I could better explain how much I love him.

Already a phone call from horse killer Manny Phelps. He has a gelding with a racing tattoo. The gelding has been off the track for quite a while. He is thin, with bad feet. 40 cents a pound.

I like what Madison has to say in her e-mail. Madison is 14, and she writes: Take away my horse and you take away my soul. By 2:30 my heart is pounding so hard, because I know I get to see him soon.

The cats Chloe, Simba, Popcorn, Tabbers, Holiday, Tex, and Corn Bob have all been given their wet food. Maggie Macaw receives her handful of pistachios. One more cup of Starbucks. Rod Stewart on the radio.

I like what Courtney has to say in her e-mail. Courtney did not give her age. Courtney writes: When the day hangs, when classes are choking me, when my mom gives me the usual do this and do that. I always have him. I look at his picture on my phone and my heart does flip flops. He brings peace to my life.

Already a phone call from horse killer John Capers. He has a young bay thoroughbred gelding with a racing tattoo. The gelding has a broken knee. 40 cents a pound.

Time to begin a Thursday. Two weeks from today is Thanksgiving, and the list of all we are Thankful for is five miles long. Enjoy your autumn Thursday, and be sure to hug your horses.

###When I left work yesterday it was gray and rainy. As I drove, I saw a rainbow - then it became a double rainbow. Heading in an entirely different direction, there was yet another rainbow - I was actually able to see both ends of it! Beautiful. I acknowledged Barbaro over and over again asking him to help send a comforting sign to all FOBs who are hurting and worried right now (sorry, if that sounds crazy! I debated whether or not to share this experience but thought if it helps uplift even one person here, or just makes them smile, it's worth being thought of as a nut!). I sat in my car in a parking lot naming all of you who have experienced losses, who are experiencing problems. I don't post often, but I grieve and celebrate with each of you and I just felt these rainbows were messages of support from the BBH meant to be shared with his FOB famblee. I BELIEVE

COOL STORY, FAMBLEE!!

Bonnie Hunt Show on here in the west wing...she told of a Parrot who saved a toddler from choking to death!

Babysitter had stepped away from two-year old child, to use the bathroom....she suddenly realized the famblee's parrot was SCREAMING, "BABY! MAMA!, BABY! MAMA!"..she had never heard the parrot scream before, and ran back into the room where she saw the toddler choking, and it's little face was BLUE!!! But because of that *PARROT*, she was able to help the child and today *ALL* is well....this happened in Denver, CO....

Pretty COOL story, huh?! Even our 'feathered frens' help us out:)

#### To Janice, you'll never forget Kaiser and certainly wouldn't want to do so. But his spiritual presence will help you to go forward.
To Linda of NW FLA: You are certainly not a nut! Many people here have suffered tremendous losses recently and your rainbow was a positive sign for us all. As our resident Angel, Dee M. would say, "It is affirmed!" Thank you for sharing this day-brightener, Linda!
To Wendy: There is some noxious spam at 1:34 AM on 11/14/08.
To Sandra: How's our Chief-ster doing tonight? For some odd reason, I found myself singing "Don't Fence Me In" out loud to myself this afternoon and thinking of my dear departed Illya. That was probably because he was found and returned to me on the day of the US Presidential election in 2000. Illya had been "on the lam" for 8 or 9 days after escaping out of the vet's kennel. Illya actually opened not one but three doors to free himself at night! What a character. Chief always makes me thing of Illya! ####

My heart beats for your heart, Barbaro, always and forever! Run with the angels honey!
And all love to the entire Heavenly Herd as you know you take me to where angels walk! As Angel Dee says, "It is AFFIRMED!" Indeed it is!

Missed being here so very much for this past stretch of days though no matter what I always remain . . . .
Holding hands, hooves, paws with the entire Barbaro Nation!!
And prayers are always being "transmitted" even when not able to get here!

So many losses of dear loved pals for the FOB Famblee these last months . . . .
Late the other night I had my Barbaro album out and I found a poem that had been posted here I believe either 01/29/2007 or in the next day or two, that very dark time when it felt so very hard to go on. If my notation was correct I believe it was posted by a "Steve" here. Anyway, it reached my heart then and having learned now about LORRAINE's COBY and MARY's SHERMAN, and so many more here . . . . Beloved MURPH MAN, KAISER, BART, CHESSIE, LUKAS, and so many more precious ones - I don't mean to leave anyone out, but here it is, just in case it might help another heart or hearts that are hurting . . .

ASCENSION
And if I go,
While you're still here . . . .
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
-- behind a thin veil you cannot see
through.
You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar
together again,
-- both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
... I will be there.

Author unknown

Peace, love, hugs, and comfort to all here.
I think many here already know that when we whisper Barbaro's name in our heart, he comes and is near.

always with love,

Lou Ann
