    Barbaro Updates: 746

    updates are now here.

Update 4312: Jen's thoroughblog has a great update today which includes a report from the sales last night, the jockey's race at Woodbine, which remains close, and much more: RESPECT.

Update 4311: Six sets this morning at Steve's. A nice easy morning for us. All mine galloped nicely. Things are continuing to wind down and we are expecting a bad winter storm to come in later today which will likely interrupt training tomorrow. We shall see!

Update 4310: Yesterday Curlin made his final public appearance on a racetrack before being retired to stud. Curlin will head to Lane's End Farm today: Curlin Bids Farewell at Churchill Downs, excerpt:

"It's very emotional," said Asmussen, who led Curlin to all but one of his 11 career victories. "The things he's done for us that we hadn't done, everything he's accomplished, leaves us with a great sense of pride."

Asmussen said Curlin will leave Churchill for Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Ky. Nov. 30, where he will begin his stud career next year.

"We're so happy to see him retiring sound, 100 percent, not even slightly phased and so spectacular," said Barbara Banke, the wife of Curlin's majority owner, Jess Jackson. "He couldn't be in any better health, and Jess is looking forward to seeing a lot of baby Curlins running around."

And here are some Curlin retirement pictures.

Update 4309: Today we lost a very very good horse. Let's hope we can get better news for the Josie Carroll trained Springside: WANDERIN BOY EUTHANIZED, SPRINGSIDE INJURED AT AQUEDUCT.

Update 4308: Off to the races and then to the sale.

Update 4307: Another quiet and straightforward morning this morning at Steve's. We only had five sets, four before the break and one after the break. All galloped nicely. We are starting to ship a lot of horses out, as are other outfits. This is the second to last weekend of racing here, and I am guessing we will only have horses here next week that will be running next weekend.

Update 4306: Einstein posted a mild upset in the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs yesterday under the leading jockey Julien Leparoux (Leparoux Sets Churchill Record for Wins). Commentator was third and Magna Graduate, running his final race fourth: Einstein Looks Brilliant in Clark.

Kathy, I was at FH last Sunday...it was another wonderful day (but oh, Michael's barns are so quiet now that he's shipped all the horses to FLA...). The horses...Well, I will say Powdered Donut is recuperating from ankle surgery and is in wonderful spirits. Vicar...what can I say about Vicar aside from the fact that I am soooooo in love with him...Miss MVP wanted attention as did Bubble Gum and Rosetta (Tim's horse who now occupies Luke's stall). Ginger and Luize were wonderful (as always). Sky Heat also loved the attention - she didn't want me to leave (or was it the carrots???). Denali - who is next to Sky Heat - is such a sweet character who I adore. The barn is getting cold now and Donna and I stayed as long as we could before our hands got REALLY cold...

But it was an interesting thing...all the horses - ALL of them...wanted that quiet time where they "breathe" you...it could be an imprinting thing or a connection...but I'll never turn down those moments. They seem to want me to be very centered right now and are so happy to help me and those who ask for that help for their issues. Aside from being beautiful race horses, they are such friends and messengers for me and Donna. I stand outside of Rosetta's stall and she puts her head out the window and we both just look toward the track and simply let ourselves melt into the moment.

If that isn't a part of Heaven for me, nothing is.

Cats need to be fed...will be doing a little something for me before heading out to volunteer at Quest...

    You are all the greatest.

    Good morning, fellow Fans!

A frosty start to the day here in the Downeast. Still no snow but they keep promising!

For all the horses racing and training today, I wish safe trips. And a special fast trip to Visionaire in the Cigar Mile! Let's see that last-to-first move again!

SOS got the word that the horses will ship on Monday. There's still a little more than a day to get them safe. There's a leopard appy, a very friendly QH who will even put his head in the halter for you, and a handsome well-trained QH that anyone should be able to ride.

###This year, as in several years past, I am giving to animal and people charities in honor of friends and family. Today's Paulick charity focus, Tranquility Farm, is "local" to me--about 75 miles away--and while I've never been there in person, it does very good work. Do visit their Web site.

Donating to the homeless shelter, food bank, Salvation Army, dog, cat, horse charity--indeed the gift that keeps on giving.

    Hi FOBs-

Hope all horses are safe racing today and even though I know better in this life, I hope that all horses waiting shipment to slaughter and especially the ones that are brought to our attention will experience a miracle and be saved.

Lyn, your post on experiencing a piece of heavan and the horses breathing you was so moving. I have experienced those moments and during that time, I also feel centered and close to God. Those moments stay with us and long for more. Love to all--Linda

Hope all of yole made it back alive if you went shopping on black friday. A few years go I had black friday off so I decided tostart my Christmas shopping. Lubbocks pop. is over 200,000 and we have 4 walmarts. My first clue was the bumper to bumper traffic. I finally got to the parking lot and spent an hour getting a parking space. My second clue. Finaly got in the place and finally got a basket. Couldnt move. The baskets were wedged so that you could only move a few inches at a time. I finally had a panic attack and I said, Lord, if you will help me get home now I will never get ou this day again. I crawled over the baskets and hitch hicked to my car and inched my way home. I will hardly open the front door to get my newspaper off the front porch on black friday. So if we never hear from some of yole we will know you are still stuck in a Walmart.

    Hay, Linda...

Just got back from volunteering at Quest Therapy Riding...interesting morning. I was scheduled to work two sessions...but both cancelled...however...

I spent nearly two hours helping a delightful woman clean up manure in one of the pastures which was occupied by the ever handsome Mr. Rick, Mr. Legend (two HUGE, beautiful white/gray Arabians)and a new paint horse as yet un-named (in the "vote for the name" contest, I wrote in Domino...). Senada was asking a lot of questions and she mentioned her mare. I looked at her and asked if the mare had pain in her right front hoof. She dropped the manure rake and nodded.

The mare is in Bosnia. I've never seen her face-to-face.

It was a much-needed validation of my abilities...let's just say I've been going thru a bit of self-doubt recently.

Senada and her future husband are going to open a therapy riding center in Bosnia next year....I've been invited to come over...the list of places for me to travel and visit is growing...I've always known I would travel and heal (since 1985, actually) both people and animals. Now maybe it can be real...

But, oh, Mr. Rick and Mr. Legend just LOOOOOVED having me in the pasture. When I would roll the wheelbarrow and then stop, I'd feel one of them behind me asking for some attention (and who am I to say no???? I never turn down a horse who wants attention...) and then have a head on my shoulder. But today, like last Sunday at Tim's barn, the horses just breathed me. Senada make the comment that I look like a person who should have LOTS of horses...

Spirit/Source, are you listening to her????? HMMMMM?????

    Am tired...

JOE FOR THE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND...THANK YOU GOD FOR JOE...AND CATHY AND ALL REST.
    *****************************************************
    Saturday, November 29th...

Loving the holidays, yet hating the times we live in. Nothing better than a Thanksgiving feast. Nothing more sad than a large group of horses shipped to slaughter. At the feed lot in Wilton on Thursday night, 21 horses were loaded into a cattle trailer for the long haul to Canadian slaughter. There should have been 23 horses.

We were able to buy a thoroughbred gelding with a racing tattoo, and his picture is below on Top Right. This gelding is 7, and comes to us with his tail chewed off. He is scared to death of people. Try to touch his face and he shys backwards, afraid of being hit. We named him Pepper, because he looks like a Pepper.

And we were able to buy a tall 6 year old mare. Horse killer Manny Phelps says he got her from an event barn in Santa Cruz. The tall mare is in continuous heat. Horse killer Manny Phelps bought her for $200.00. He sold the tall mare to us for $300.00. We sold her to a very good friend for $1.00. The mare goes to a fancy barn, and her new name is Gracie. She loves peppermints.

Word comes of still more horses at the same Wilton feed lot. Waiting for the cattle trailer to return, and then they too will be shipped to Canada.

The late night news shows crazy Arden Mall on Black Friday. Thousands of shoppers searching for a bargain. An entirely different world out there.

I met a family not far from our ranch. There is no money to feed their 3 horses.

I met a family in the town of Winters. There is no money to feed their older gelding.

I met a teenage girl at our front gate. She is one month behind on board, and next week it will be two months. Could I please take her horse? She was sobbing.

I met a family at our front gate. Could they please have 5 bales of alfalfa? Their two old mares are hungry.

Loving the holidays, yet hating the times we live in...

Tbfriends has access to more than 80 thoroughbreds who need good homes. These horses are free, and our screening process is simple. Tbfriends provides transportation. Ages range from 2-25. Several of the younger horses are not broke to ride. My cell is 530-383-2120 if you can help.

Picture below on Top Left shows a recent adoption. This is Stacey & John taking home Radiant Girl, and we called her Radar. Pay no attention to the date. Goofy camera. This adoption took place two weeks ago. We miss Radar like crazy.

Bottom row pictures show Then and Now. Earlier this summer we took ownership of Hans and Cherry, two older thoroughbreds in horrible condition. Both were hungry, both were depressed.

Bottom Left: Cherry and Hans when they came to us. Hans is on the right, and he was in especially bad shape.

Bottom Right: Hans and Cherry yesterday. They love to run and play.

Thick cold fog outside. Horses only a few feet away are hidden. Hot coffee is from Starbucks. Delicious cold orange juice from Simply Orange. Natasha from England on the radio. Porky Pig is awake. Waiting for her good morning banana.

    Joe

RIP Wanderin Boy. So very sad when this happens.

"Every creature is better alive than dead, men and moose and pine trees, and he who understands it aright will rather preserve it than destroy it." Henry David Thoreau.

Rough day at the kennels. 73 canine fur babies and 12 kitties. My back is broken. My ankles hurt. But I did have fun. Duke the Doberman is there again this weekend. He is a flying 9 month old, not neutered. I ended up with his muddy paw print on my right facial cheek. He is an airborne lunatic. I am taking my gelding kit to work with me tomorrow. Then I took a break in the office. Gloria, the rescued Saluki was napping on the sofa. I sat next to her, and had to jump up at the first sensation of wetness seeping through my jeans. I don't know what it was or who's it was..........

    The things we do.

    ###
Angel Dee, thank you for your rainbow for Wanderin Boy and Nick Zito - such a sad racing day. But Wanderin Boy is healed, whole, pain-free and running with Barbaro, LITF, Gallant Secret and all the others in Equine Heaven...

    ###
Prayers and healing energy on the way to Springside as she arrives at New Bolton. She's with the best...

    ###
And last but certainly not least..prayers and healing energy to Powdered Donut. I spent a lot of time with her last Sunday - she seemed to want extra attention - and I'll never turn down THAT kind of request from a horse or a child...Donut is a love who adores getting carrots. Weather permitting, I will be there next Sunday (not tomorrow - weather is not looking good at all).

    Thanksgiving Thoughts
What do we have today to be thankful for? The economy is tanking, Horses are dying, people and pets are dying and life is just damn hard. So what do we have to be thankful for?
I am thankful that I have a job. I am thankful that there is food on my table, though like so many of us there is none to waste, and a roof over my head. I am thankful that God graced us with wordsmiths like Harriette Brillianthawk, J. Carson Black, Otherlyn, Dan Fogleberg, Angel Dee and Lyn Lifshin. Thanks have been given for frens such as Lynne Brown, CJaffe and Jonna Skehan. And I am thankful for heroic leaders in our fights; people with grace and courage like Roy and Gretchen Jackson and Daryl Smoliak.
But mostly I am thankful for a Horse. Just one Horse, but the greatest Horse ever. He may not have been as fast as Ruffian or Secretariat, but the was much, much greater. On a day we all thought we would see this Horse take his second step to racing immortality, through our tears, we saw a Horse emerge into true immortality. Greatness is not measured on a field of battle or through atheletic prowess; no, greatness is a measure of the whole. His greatness on the track was only a beginning, but we will never truly know how great that part of him would have been. Truly, without Barbaro's dignity, strength, charachter and grace off of the track, along with the same traits in his people, we would not have saved the lives of so many Horses nor raised over a million dollars. Without Barbaro, how many of us would know about, or care as deeply as we do about, Windchill, Kaiser, Bart, No Allegiance, Wanderin Boy, Sherman or Murphy? How many of us would know about laminitis? How many significant changes would be occuring in racing or that we would play a part?
I for one would not. And I would be less of a man and less of a human. I would not have reached a point in my life where I would experience a rainbow meant only for me. (Thank you Padme, you surely guided me on that path just by being here.)
So, now I'll end this ramble of Thanksgiving by saying Thank You. To all of you my famblee, God, Alex, the Jacksons and Barbaro, Thank You.

NO Horse left behind or EVER Forgotten!

Sandra: your post yesterday about TRYING to shop on a Black Friday made me laugh out loud. Here's hoping that you and Chief have a fine day today.

    ####
OK, so I either am starting up a good case of Bronchitis or Pneumonia--perhaps the flu. Yeah, the flu would be the better choice of the three...

I fed and turned out and settled down the 12 hounds here and the two boarders who go home tonight...they've only had a 1.5 day stay. Jet black--patent-leather we call it. They are siblings and the two guys who have them are peaches. A great placement.

And now I am going to succumb to the bed, the hounds and lotsa fluid. It seems this happens every year. Just to make the Season a Leetle More Festive. And a Leetle More Fun.

I send out prayer for the two lost horses yesterday. It makes me sick at heart. One can only hope they were loved while alive: I am sure that Zito's horse was...but weren't they both babies?

We have the same thing--essentially--with young greyhounds. Their bones are NOT READY for the stresses placed on them in their quest for faster and faster times. If they don't blow a hock during those early months of racing--usually starting around 14-16 months--then, OMHO, bone cancer will get on of their right limbs...most often the front right.

    Gee. What a coincidence.

Sophie's Lee: thank you for your kind mention. We all do what we can...thanks God that the FoBs have more than a few either wealthy (or eating cat food) "members."

It just makes me cry when one of these people will swoop down on a rescue in trouble and toss a big bunch of cash at the needed balance. This just galvanizes all the rest of us. It brings down those big totals, and let's us feel--correctly--that our donation will push the rescue forward, and that it IS POSSIBLE to save the horses in question.

I am so very proud of being a member of the Barbaro Nation.

AND ONE MORE THING: was it Mary L or Mary S who kept track of horses rescued?

Wendy & Alex: We still have that 2600 figure up, and childrens, I KNOW that we have saved more than that. A lot more than that.

Peace. And a safe Sunday for all mounts and riders. And for all the racing greyhounds as well...

    Thanks: j

Sunday, November 30th... There were 4 adoptions yesterday, including Sugar. Seattle Dreaming. Unusual Jail. Adams Naughty Lady. I will show you pictures tomorrow...

Our friend Jennifer phones yesterday to say a Northern California chat room is trying to rescue a thoroughbred gelding. $75.00 more is needed. The gelding is being offered by a horse trader from mexican rodeo. The gelding has been used for tripping.

Thanks to an incredibly nice person from Reno named Laura, I have $250.00 cash in my pocket. I tell Jennifer go get the gelding.

In darkness he arrives, and is foot sore. No room at the Inn, so the gelding is free to roam our mare motel area. So sore the roaming part is wishful thinking. After the late night news, cold and foggy, I check on the gelding. He has not moved much. But he licked his feed tub clean.

    more to come

    Hi All FOB,

These words of advice are from an article by Don Williams, Knoxville Voice. I thought I'd share them with you today!

    Interact compassionately.

    Think rationally.

    Meditate mystically.

    Reflect gratefully.

    And love wastefully.

They seem somehow appropriate for this board, at this time. Much love, and best wishes to all!

Sofie's Lee:) What a great and wonderful person you are, Lee:) Thank you for remembering my *MURPHY* among those you are thankful for! Me too, Lee...I am most grateful to have been his Mama..and I miss him just 'terrrrrrrble'! I was thinking of you and others in the wee hours this morning, wondering where you've been....so I'm glad to have discovered your post now! :)

Miss Jonna...Guardian Angel to those Greys! I'm sorry to read of your 'Holiday Bug'..hope you are feeling better very soon!

'Your' Joe must be surely needing his fog lights this day to find his horses...as the fog bank is so LARGE and all things outside are SO WET...but thankfully, that fog bank is just 'hanging' over the lake across from me right now! I can only imagine Woodland...:-O They might be lucky to have it lift by noon today, and I wonder if they will even see sunshine at all!

BTW: Mary L. is the 'keeper of the figures'...

Alright, Famblee...Everyone have a 'dine&fandy' day today...it all begins again tomorrow...another Monday is heading our way!

CANTER - OHIO Third Annual Christmas Card Fundraiser

Please send the horses a x-mas card and a $5 contribution ($1s, $10s and $20s will not be turned down!). Please take a moment and wish our horses a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with a card and a donation. CANTER has had to stop taking in horses because of debt. This should ehlp them get going again. I have worked with them to save Day Bue and they do a great job. They saw him through surgery, an infection that threatened his life and a long recovery. Bue is now adopted and has a great owner who loves him very much.

Difficult to explain the pain in his eyes. If I were a creative writer I could paint a better picture. All the hurt he has suffered from the hands of humans. Yet when I checked on him last night he happily nickered as I approached. The gelding is hopeful. So I suppose we will call him Hope.

At our front gate 98 year old Joe Farnham, and from Joe and his niece we were given home baked cookies. So good Pony Boy keeps staring at the house.

At our front gate Casey Cox, she is 13, and Casey hands us a brand new fancy brown jacket. Casey says give this jacket to a girl who needs it. Well okay then. We know just the girl.

Another month comes to an end. 2008 zipping by like a race horse. We are oh so foggy, but later the sun should once again appear. We could be 66 degrees. Hot coffee is from Starbucks. Microwave waffles were made by Eggo. Horse killer Manny Phelps has phoned to say he has another race horse. Never are we dull in the boonies. Enjoy your wave goodbye to Thanksgiving weekend Sunday, and be sure to hug your horses. Already Christmas music on the radio...

Too much looking back robs us of our natural ability to change things. We are too good at finding reasons for failing, too well trained in using logic to work out knotty decisions.

Every thinking, praying human being has access to supernatural answers to his problems, but he cannot use only human reason. And more than anything he must not give excuses or blame others for his own mistakes. Nor can we say that if we sit still long enough a miracle will happen. We have to use our minds and our hearts and our spirits...but we must also obey the rules.

Some of us seem to have a peculiar intuition.

Lack of wisdom makes us believe we are destined to go through certain experiences. You can hear it in voices when we say, "It runs in the family."

The thing that runs in the family is the mouth...the need to warn and warn and show fear and tell everyone we have bad blood. There is no bad blood that the Spirit cannot fix. There is no ailment that is above His name. There is only hardheadedness on people's part to learn about it.

If someone in your family had a magic recipe, you be conniving to get it. Think of all you could do, think what miracles you could perform. Yet, you have a spiritual gift that is idle--when it could be your greatest miracle.

They brought their accursed fire-water to our village, making wolves of our warriors...and when we protested and destroyed their bad spirits, they came back in multitudes on horse back.

Hiya, FsOB! Well, it is a rainy, grey Sunday afternoon here on the banks of the Thames. We actually had a mini ice pellet storm this AM. Nikita loathes rain and is lying in the position that I refer to as a "Husk Ball". She is lying in a circular position and her nose is tucked into her tail for warmth.

Wishing each of you warmth, safety, and "ACN". Peace, RMH

    #### To Skyler, when I arrived home on Friday evening, Ms. Nikita seemed to revel in being the only dog in the house following Zoe's visit.
To Lynne B.: Hearing about those hidden milk bones really brought back some memories. Some of my former Huskies had similar stash. Nikita loves Brent's socks and we find them in her portion of the yard throughout the Summer. The spotting of socks pushed into the sofa cushions seems to be an almost daily occurrence.
To Barb: Yes, I miss our Nancy, too. I wish that I could buy her a new computer.
To Sofie's Lee, thank you for your lovely posting at 6:32 AM on 11/30/08. Barbaro will live on in equine history, shall he not?
To Sandra, loved your Black Friday story. You couldn't pay me to venture into a store on that day. ####

My heart beats for your heart, Barbaro, always and forever! Run with the angels honey!
And all love to the entire Heavenly Herd .... as you know you take me to where angels walk . . . as Angel Dee says "It is AFFIRMED!"

Holding hands, hooves, paws with the entire Barbaro Nation . . . . even when there is sadness here there is always such strong positive feelings of love and hope. You all are the best, truly simply the best!

Positively miserable outside here today - freezing rain off and on and the dark damp drearies - the kind some say "goes through your bones", aargh . . . and just yesterday I was out pruning roses.

But then I think of a beautiful big bay colt running the fields of Heaven and everyone here gathered in his name . . . .

    Love to all, always . . . .

PADME - your interactions with the horses are so beautiful, just always stirs a special place deep within my soul . . . thanks for sharing!!

Well Alex, I teased you this morning about the weather and now I see here in SE Wisconsin we are getting 7 inches of snow. That will mean we will have had almost 10 inches in November. After last winter's near 100 inches of snow, we just can't take it any more. I am dreaming of a brown Christmas. I HATE snow.

But I am overjoyed you saw that rainbow...

    Edited press release

The Unwanted Horse Coalition, which is affiliated with the American Horse Council, is conducting a survey to obtain more information about the magnitude of the problem of unwanted horses.

According to a release from the UHC, there are few documented facts about the accurate number of unwanted horses, their age, sex, breed, recent use, value or what happens to them in the long run. As a result, the organization is seeking information from equine associations, veterinarians, breeders, state and local law enforcement, horse owners, rescue/retirement facilities, and other facilities using horses.

"Although there are numerous media reports and much anecdotal evidence of a growing problem with unwanted horses, there have been no studies or surveys done to attempt to document it," said Jay Hickey, president of the American Horse Council, the national association that represents all segments of the horse industry in Washington, D.C. "The downturn in the economy, rising costs of hay, the drought that has affected many parts of the United States, the costs of euthanasia and carcass disposal, and the closing of the nations slaughter facilities have all made the problem worse. But no one knows its magnitude. Thats why the first step toward a solution is to gather and examine the facts. The goal of this survey is to get the input, observations, opinions and suggestions from anyone and everyone involved with horses."

Phase I of the study is an online survey of people most affected by and involved with the issue of the unwanted horse. An independent research firm developed the questionnaire and is hosting the online survey site. The firm will also tabulate and analyze responses, and provide a full report..

The Study on Contributing Factors Surrounding the Unwanted Horse Issue will be instrumental in filling factual gaps with actual data on:

--Awareness of the unwanted horse problem and perceived trends in recent years
    --Level of concern
    --Factors contributing to the problem
--Direct and in-direct experience with the issue
    --Actions taken by owners
    --Expectations about responsibility and assistance
    --Solutions

A comprehensive view of the problem depends on representation from all corners of the horse industry, according to Dr. Tom Lenz, chairman of the UHC. "To ensure the broadest possible participation, were working to involve a variety of individuals, associations, state and local agencies, and equine-related companies to actively encourage their constituencies to take the survey and voice their opinions."

The American Association of Equine Practitioners defines the term "unwanted horse" as, "Horses which are no longer wanted by their current owner because they are old, injured, sick, unmanageable, fail to meet their owners expectations, or the owner can no longer afford or is incapable of caring for them." This definition, according to Lenz, is a starting point to discover whats causing the problem and what can be done to correct it.

"Regardless of how horses reached this state, every ownerand the equine industry at largehas a responsibility to ensure that everything possible is done to guarantee the humane care and treatment of unwanted horses," Lenz said. "Our message now is to please go to http://survey.ictgroup.com/uhcsurvey/, and provide us with feedback. Answers will be confidential. More important, this feedback will be invaluable in developing a strategy to solve the problem."

Please participate in survey. We MUST be heard. The Love of the Frens will make the difference.

Goodnight, to all of you. Let's have a super week.

Goodnight, Dearest BARBARO...Champion of my heart.

RIP WANDERIN'BOY. We watched you chase the wind...oh how you seemed to love it. Run, now, with the Young Prince, and all of his frens.

    ### Hay, Fren Sofie's Lee,

Your 'Thankful' post was lovely. We do indeed have a lot to be thankful for, especially when it comes to having known each other through one very special Big Bay Colt. The Love of the Frens has made the difference, in so many ways.

Now, I must say that I am thankful that there is a man, such as you, who has the courage and the heart to express such thoughtful poignancy.

I only know you here, through your words and your participation. We don't seem to have much of a male presence here, but the ones who do show up...You, Alex, Daryl, Gerry, the dedicated work of Joe, and the handful of others, do so indeed, seem to be real men...with the courage to express, profess,...with the courage to make a difference. There are plenty of 'guys' in this world, but very few MEN. I am thankful that we have you here.

    Now, for your delight:

Only yesterday, as I raked the last leaves off my yard, the wind came up. It spoke a vision into my mind's eye.

Since Derby day, and beyond, BIG BROWN has not been able to shake free the trauma of having seen EIGHT BELLES fall. It has played on his mind and body. He has not been the same horse, of the same heart, since that fateful day.

His heart and hers were sharing the same song as they ran. They were enjoying the contest in the wind. Then he heard her, at last say, "Run On !" So...run he did. They finished, then he saw her go down.

A part of his own spirit went out of him, and ran back to her as she lay helpless on the ground. It could not help her. It stood, invisible to her in her pain. Then it dissolved into vapor as it tried to follow her up and out of thisotherplace.

Well, my Fren, a whisper of the vapor found its way into the wind. And in the wind runs a valiant bay stallion known in THISGOODPLACE as ARDOR. ARDOR has visited BIG BROWN in a dream. He has comforted the melancholy Brother-of-the-Roses, with a tale of his own filly Fren, who went down on the track. He told him of those very words..."Run On!" as the last words he heard in her heartsong.

Fren Lee, the story will be told. An account of the dream is forthcoming. It has already helped BIG BROWN. It might help many broken hearts here as well.

ARDOR's filly fren is your own beloved namesake.
It is obvious that your heart is with her. You have said that your heart is thankful for BARBARO too. Thank you for being one of us, Dear Fren.

They are only a thought away.

    Your FOB Fren. O

    ## A great friend has sent this today .... I wanted to share. Just back from a great trip to NYC ....... and missed, of course, my fur children: Amigo, Warpaint and Dakota ! Today - a short trail ride - and YES ..... I am so grateful for the therapy on 4 legs !

    The Warmth Of A Horse

When your day seems out of balance and so many things go wrong ...
when people fight around you and the clock drags on so long ...
When some folks act like children and fill you with remorse ...
Go out into your pasture and wrap your arms around your horse.

His gentle breath enfolds you as he watches with those eyes ...
He may not have a PhD but he is, oh so so wise!
His head rests on your shoulder you hug him good and tight ...
He puts your world in balance and makes it seem all right.

Your tears will soon stop flowing, the tension will be eased ...
The nonsense has been lifted. You are quiet and at peace.
So when you need some balance from the stresses in your day ...
    The therapy you really need
    Is out there eating hay!

Beautiful pic of Wanderin Boy on Jens' blog. All he was doing was his job. They must keep these tracks safe. Who cares for the grounds there? Why aren't they in trouble?

    ### Sweet dreams Fren Sherry, and All,

Sometimes, I like to go to the archives at TWR, and review what and where we were on this same date, in the the nights, before we lost our Beloved. I just skim the posts, and smile. There is so much love there.

Then, I come back to the present:

As always, I recommend that you go outside and look up at the night sky. (I am getting ready to do so.)

You will see the glory of our Father's handiwork. Look up...breath deeply...give thanks. Then, look for the brightest star. Doesn't it remind you of our Champion?

Smile, and enjoy the beauty. Go inside to the comfort of your warm bed. Life is good. LIFE is good! Rest, Dear Ferns...for with the dawn, comes work to do.

Good night All. And Fren Sherry...The account of the story will come. It will come, all because of BARBARO.

They are only a thought away.

    Your FOB Fren, O

###One last thing, Frens, that I must tell you...

I went out to look at the night sky, and it is not deep blue, with silver stars. Tonight the sky, in West Michigan, is a soft dusty rose, with not one shimmering glimmer to be seen. The pink tinge is solid, and unyielding to the twinkling lights behind the canopy. Tree branches are covered with newly fallen snow. They are black and white against the pink sky.

Were I to lament the glimpse of a bright star, I would diminish the beauty of what is high above.
Our Heavenly Father has chosen a pink sky to look upon...a lovely backdrop to the stark black and white of His winter palate.

I will not miss the silver stars. I know that they are there, behind the clouds. Somewhere in the world they shine, unobstructed by the clouds of a winter night. They, shine down upon Phoenix or Miami...perhaps even Chicago, sleeps beneath them. They shine even when we forget to look up.

...And with the brightest star, burning in the memory of my heart, I may still remember our Champion...

    Sweet dreams.

    Your FOB FRen, O
