Barbaro Updates: 633

updates are now here.

Update 3760: Superfecta here, with another installment of Horses Americans Should Know; this time, it's Montmartre.

Given Curlin's (relatively) disappointing finish in the Man O' War, many European betting agencies have upped his odds for the Arc; they have also installed a new favorite in the appropriately-named Montmartre. Montmartre won the Grand Prix de Paris yesterday (Bastille Day, as you no doubt noticed) in very impressive style (video).

Despite his win, his Timeform rating places him in sixth, behind horses such as Duke of Marmalade and New Approach (and just slightly ahead of his stablemate, Zarkava). Unlike that of Zarkava, Montmartre's family is a more recent addition to the Aga Khan's operation; he was bred by SNC Lagardere Elevage, the commercial breeding operation for Jean-Luc Lagardère, who died in 2003. The Aga Khan purchased the entire business in 2004, including the stallion Linamix, who is the broodmare sire of Montmartre.

A grey 3-year-old, Montmartre made his racing debut in April of this year, finishing second in a 2000 m race at Longchamp. That effort was quickly followed by a win later that month over 2200 m. His first foray in Group company did not go terribly well (see below), but he rebounded in June in the Prix du Lys. He seems to relish the 2400 m distance (about 1 1/2 miles).

Montmartre was largely absent from the Arc picture after a disappointing finish in the Prix du Jockey Club (aka the French Derby -- apparently the public address system noise upset him), but is now very much a factor. One wonders if the plan will be to start both Zarkava and Montmartre in the Arc (providing all goes well), and just which one of them Christophe Soumillon will decide (or be appointed) to ride.

Montmartre has certainly demonstrated an affinity for Longchamp; he's never been out of the money in his four starts there. His lone up-the-track finish, mentioned above, was at Chantilly -- and of course the unbeaten Zarkava seems happy enough at either track, although there is some concern that she prefers the ground not to be too soft. In any event, it's going to be a very interesting Arc indeed with Montmartre added to the mix.

Hiya, FsOB! Can I possibly be first or second two days running? Alex, thanks for blue-linking the editorial or op-ed by Congressman Ed Whitfield. He makes tangible solutions. Let's hope that he can galvanize further support for his recommendations and for HR 503 in the House. A productive & safe day to each of you! RMH

#### To Susan E.: Brent & I had a belated wedding reception in Louisville on 06/20. Nikita is still enjoying fine dining, as you aptly phrased it. She is unusually wide awake this AM and has already enjoyed some cheddar cheese on top of her Ennova Senior, as well as some "Greenies". Life is good and I hope that yours is as well!
Good morning to Renee, sounds like you had a great time at the event in Mass. last weekend.

Morning skritches to the BBH, Sir JH, Gorgeous George, Belles, KeyKey and the rest of the glorious gang in Equine Heaven.

MORNING POST/SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI/AAHS:

STRATEGY FOR TUESDAY, JULY 15

Both the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), have the power to bring the bill up for consideration in their respective chambers, therefore it is vital that as many people as possible, both at the grassroots level and internally within Congress, insist that the House Speaker and Senate Majority Leader do everything in their power to afford the bills legislative due process and bring them immediately to the floor for a vote.

Speaker of the House - Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) DC Phone: 202-225-4965 Fax:202-225-4188

Senate Majority Leader - Harry Reid (D-NV) DC Phone: 202-224-3542 Fax:202-224-7327

It is our understanding that more co sponsors would certainly facilitate our efforts with Speaker of the House Pelosi and draw the much needed attention to this legislation. For this reason, we will be posting the names of Representatives that we will be targeting.

###Good Morning All, have just been catching up on some of the news from Del Park Celebration. Sound like everyone had a fine time.

Curlin, you're still the greatest.

Upsets here in the second leg of Canadian Triple Crown, but all came home safely and that's horseracing at it's best.

Took an extra long weekend to enjoy my birthday, which coincidently was the same as Mirabel's. Happy Belated Birthday Mirabel. Wow, 47 pounds, that's fantastic. And now, another decade begins for me, sure do fly by don't they.

Renee, take care and don't overdo, the horses wouldn't be happy without their Renee skritches and treats.

To all, have a safe day.

Um...Alex...would you please remove the post timestamp 1:40 p.m.???

###
Well the Celebration is now history...it was an intense weekend.

###
Sherry, I was so happy to show you my world.

###
Sue, my finger is healing beautifully. Swelling is down...I do want to reassure Orion that I'm OK...that I love all three of your horses.

###
Martita, your dance was luminous. Had me in tears seeing your beauty, your passion, your creativity and your love.

###
Shelley, glad I could help with the AAHS table...

###
Otherlyn, it was a pleasure to meet you...keep writing, keep it flowing.

###
Dawn Five-Wolves and Jane Heart...I love your jewelry. I'm happy to have met you...

###
Jodie, that one horse (#5) WAS talking to me.

###
Kathleen Pompa...thank you again for being there after I was bitten. I was in shock for a while and your quick thinking and skill lessened the pain and shock.

###
I was wondering about something...it seems there are local celebrations happening around the county...I know I want to travel and spread the word about "Cassidy", horse/animal welfare issues and Reiki...I'd be willing to travel to these gatherings...and be a vendor for things like local fundraisers...I know other vendors couldn't travel the way I could (nearly full-time - be a gypsy healer/author living a very simple life), but I'd love to see these community gatherings fundraise for local rescues/therapy/retirement centers...this idea came to me yesterday so its still in the "swirling" stages...if there are any other gypsy vendors who would want to brainstorm with me, please let me know at lyn.gilbert@gmail.com. I'll listen. This society is starting to go to a more community-like dynamic and that is a good thing...but there will need to be those who can travel to communities to keep abundance and prosperity energy flowing.

I'll need an RV...or some other 'home on wheels'.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

Good Morning Gang.

I want to post a warning about flea and tick applications that contain fipronil. Fipronil can cause neurotoxic reactions in your pet.

I applied this topical treatment to my dogs on 5/30 and 6/30. The first application was OK. The second one seemed to cause a terrible problem for my 13 year old, Lucky. Last year I got this product from my vet. So I assumed it would be fine to use it again this year, so I ordered from a catalog. It's the same as what the vet gave me last year.

Two and a half years ago the vet told me that Lucky only had maybe a year of mobility left. He still gets around though. His gait is stiff and sometimes halting. He is in no pain. He gets thorough massage work done daily. I concentrate on his spine and send energy to the spinal cord and brain.

Two days after the 6/30 topical application he could not get up. When he was up he was falling. The legs were not working in sync with each other. His hind legs would not support him. I thought this was the end of his mobility. He has been getting 'better' over the past few days, little by little.

Needless to say, he won't be getting the treatment on 7/30. I just wanted to share this with yole.

Aside from the June/July wonderful prizes for the MHR Hay Drive... ALL BARBARO! ,there is the Cafe MHR which offers meals to the wonderful horses. You can take the horse or horses of your choice out for a meal of either a salad featuring Timothy Hay or a fruit salad, or take him/her out for a nice dessert. Another choice is a tip to Nerdy Ned for his hard work at keeping the MHR CAFE going for the month of July.

Hi Margie

sorry about your Lucky's bad reaction.

am just going to say this out of concern and from an educated point of view.

you don't mention the actual product name but I'm going to guess and assume it's one of the top selling products for flea and tick prevention. I resepct that you don't want to use the name, an won't go any further with that. HOWEVER, and this is the whole point, catalog products are NOT always the same as the manufacturer's product, even though they are named and labeled identically. I respect the necessity to save money, particularly when you have more than one animal as the product is pricy. My DH has treated several animals over the past few years in particular, for adverse reactions produced by products purchased online or through similar catalogs. The treatment is supportive, depending on the degree of symptoms, which usually disappear fairly quickly. Bottom line, and said again only out of concern and from experience, the products obtained through your vet are the real deal and have the manufacturer's backup and guarantee. Theses prodcuts should not cause such reactions. There are always isolated cases, but they are extremely rare. Hope Lucky is improving today.

************************************************
Tuesday, July 15th...Buying horses from horse killer Manny Phelps, and on the phone he tells me about a thoroughbred mare who recently delivered a foal. She might be 12, and he calls her pretty. Horse killer Manny Phelps has no idea where the foal is. He bought the mare from a small ranch in Elk Grove. The small ranch is getting rid of all of their horses. Horse killer Manny Phelps wants 40 cents a pound. With shipping the mare comes to $550.00.

Yesterday afternoon here comes the mare, and she is far from pretty. The poor mare is muddy and skinny. And scared to death. She has an old racing tattoo which is faded, but I think the first letter is R. Which would make the mare 20, not 12. On the barn radio is the song Oh Mandy. So we named this mare Oh Mandy.

We also bought a thoroughbred gelding. Horse killer Manny Phelps says the gelding is 8, and in Turlock. We are arranging transportation for the gelding, and he is probably 18, not 8.

We need to tip our Boston Red Sox hats to Nor Cal Equine Rescue. At an auction in Roseville on Sunday Nor Cal rescued 34 horses. This has to be a new record. A day for the history books, and congratulations Nor Cal.

Nikki lives in Vacaville, and she recently closed escrow on her very own ranch. On Saturday Nikki saved the life of a yearling paint colt who was to be euthanized. He is a hunk. Castration takes place later this week.

Tara also lives in Vacaville, and on Sunday she brought home a thoroughbred filly from a race track in Vallejo. The trainer said here you go, just make sure she is well taken care of. The filly looks like Black Beauty. She should have her own calendar.

Kendra lives in West Sacramento, and on Saturday she bought a very skinny quarter horse mare from a man named Jim. The mare was priced at 40 cents a pound, which means Kendra had to pay $320.00. Kendra named her new mare Vickie, after her grandma. Kendra is only 17.

Nor Cal Equine Rescue. Nikki. Tara. Kendra. Stepping up to the plate, doing what needs to be done. So many horses in Northern California in deep trouble. Funds are scarce. The high costs of hay, gasoline and insurance.

A phone call I will remember for a long time came from a girl named Caroline, and she is 11. Caroline lives in Orangevale. She said there is $60.00 in her drawer. Would I take her $60.00 and use it to help rescue a horse?

I told Caroline I would need to talk with her parents first. But how sweet she is to offer her life savings to an unknown horse.

Caroline hands the phone to her mom. Her mom asks me to please do this. It is all Caroline has been talking about. Mom says Caroline earned the $60.00 sweeping. Caroline goes around her neighborhood and charges $5.00 to sweep out a garage and driveway. She carries around a big push broom.

So I said okay. And I will name the horse Caroline, and show a picture of the horse on my morning journal.

Caroline the girl gets back on the phone. She says no Joe, do not name the horse Caroline. Please name the horse Wendy, after my grandma who died. My grandma would read me stories in bed, and they would always be about horses.

On Thursday I get to meet Caroline and her mom. They are bringing me $60.00. At a feed lot in Vallejo, or at a feed lot in Wilton, a filly or mare is waiting. And her name will soon be Wendy.

I must hustle and feed 107 horses. Our farrier Tim comes this morning. Later we could be 93 degrees. Enjoy your Tuesday without Amercian Idol, and be sure to hug your horses.

Joe

Our stuck Kodak program is still not working, but our friend Holly says it should be fixed today.

Below are pictures from our old Kodak program.

Top Left: In Other Worlds, and he lives in our north field.

Top Right: Every Christmas Cathy and I buy a horse from a feed lot and give the horse a Christmas kind of name. This is Holiday, and she lives in our west field.

Top Left: Red River Valley came from the race track with two injured ankles. He lives in our north field.

Top Right: The old mare Elvia, she is 24 or so, and she lives in our south field.

IMO - THANK them all for having voted YES on HR 249 - but remind them that 249 only applies to WILD equines and we still need HR 503 for the rest of them and to end export.

Thank those who voted YES on HR 503; use their prior support of the slaughter ban bill when urging them to cosponsor now. "DO THE RIGHT THING AGAIN - support the slaughter/export ban - but this time, cosponsor...."

As for those who voted NO on 503 in the 109th - "changed circumstances call for a fresh look with an open mind" - and the closure of all the slaughter plants within the US is a huge changed circumstance, so that even though they may have opposed 503 in the past, they should support it now because of the export situation.

Hi Cheryl Jones,

The catalog price for this top selling brand was the same as the vet charged last year - very high I might add!!! I use this catalog a lot because I get other things especially the minty fresh biscuits. The catalog begins with the word "Drs....". I completely understand now that the product might be different. But I think Lucky's chronic and progressive condition cannot tolerate too much of anything. The Hanta Virus is rearing it's ugly head in these parts. So I don't know what to do for Lucky.

Ky Racing Commission article in today's Lexington Herald...

Horse racing board votes to ban toe grabs

RULE CHANGE COULD TAKE EFFECT FOR FALL RACING
By Linda B. Blackford
lblackford@herald-leader.com

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission voted unanimously Monday to limit toe grabs on the front horseshoes of all Thoroughbreds in training or in competition on Kentucky tracks.

A toe grab is a cleat at the front of the horseshoe to improve traction. Under the new rules, anything higher than 2 millimeters or any other traction device would be banned.

The rule was recommended by the commission's health and safety committee. The committee looked at many years of scientific study showing a significant increase in the risk of front-leg injuries when toe grabs are used.

The rule change follows a Jockey Club recommendation to ban toe grabs. Officials said five other states already have adopted such a rule.

”It's a big deal,“ said Mitch Taylor, director of the Kentucky Horseshoeing School, who testified Monday at the commission's meeting at the Kentucky Horse Park.

”I expect to see a significant change, and even if this saves one horse, it's worth it.“

The rule change will need to go through the legislative rules process and a public comment period, but it could go into effect this fall, said Commission Director Lisa Underwood.

”There are going to be horses who benefit from toe grabs, but for the few who might benefit, the vast majority will benefit from flat plates,“ said John Veitch, the state's chief steward.

Taylor said that anecdotally, many people believe that toe grabs help horses get a better hold of the dirt with their front legs, even though most of their propulsion comes from the hind end.

But in looking at special videos comparing horses shod in toe grabs, it's clear that it causes horses to overextend their lower front legs.

Underwood said that Eight Belles, the Kentucky Derby runner-up who broke both front legs after the race, was wearing toe grabs, but it was unclear if they affected her.

Her death elicited a frenzy of hand-wringing over the state of horse racing; the ban on toe grabs will solve some of that, Taylor said.

”It's a multi-faceted problem and it needs a multi-faceted solution,“ he said.

Another piece of the puzzle is the use of whips, which came under fire in the wake of Eight Belles' death and is also under discussion by the commission's health and safety committee.

Commission members looked at a new prototype for whips that are 28 inches long, rather than the regulation 30 inches long. Jockeys have been trying out the whips at Ellis Park and Churchill Downs, said Jeff Johnston of the Jockey's Club.

”I was pleasantly surprised by the results,“ he said. ”Most of the jockeys are receptive.“

In other business, the commission passed rules to raise licensing fees for standardbred and Thoroughbred owners and trainers, the first time they have been raised since 2002, Underwood said.

The annual fee would go from $100 to $150 for Thoroughbred owners, trainers and veterinarians. Fees would go from $100 to $125 for standardbred trainers and drivers. The increases should bring in an additional $400,000.

Veitch also reported that trainer Steve Asmussen was fined $250 by Churchill Downs stewards for using profanity to a starting gate assistant.

Eight Belles was wearing toe grabs when she was fatally injured after the Kentucky Derby.

###As much as I complain about where I live, we have a few things going for us--no fleas and no heartworm for dogs. Therefore, no treatment necessary. MargieinNM, hope Lucky is recovering still and I don't blame you for not wanting to do the 7/30 "thing" with him.

Flea collars make some cats very sick--they smell terrible (the collars, not the cats), and that makes me think they aren't good for the cats.

I'm also having second thoughts about the yearly boosters for my dog. I think those "yearlies" contribute to their shortened lifespans. Rabies is something else--gotta have those to get the dogs "legal" in the county--but at least they are only every three years.

###HOORAY for Ask The Lord. What a lucky boy.

###And yes, indeed, God BLESS Joe and Cathy. I start my day with TBFriends and laugh and cry from paragraph to paragraph. They have an amazing operation there and I am in awe.

I repeat Margie's prayer daily, that we "players" each win the Lotto jackpot (a BIG one) and are able to contribute so these folks can continue their VERY good works.

###Good day and safe travels to all, prayers to those in need, and Alex, thank you. Again.

Posted by: KAY at July 15, 2008 5:19 PM

Kay, I turned down getting them the yearly booster shots this Spring. They are innoculated every 3 years for rabies because it's the law. But the other shots concern me, and since they don't come into contact with any other animals, I declined them. We can only hope we are doing right by them. :-(

Kay, I think you're in the high desert, I'm in the Palm Springs area and we are flealess here too. So glad because it was a nightmare living at the beach with them.

Gang....please don't forget the MHR fundraisers. Times are very lean and scarry. I've told you that hay prices have double in less than 2 years. MHR has lots of mouths to feed, a few of those mouths are FOB saved horses and the BBGs & BBBs who came from a Canadian PMU ranch. MHR is doing everthing right. We have cams on horses, the website and blog and the fundraiser offer wonderful prizes. Please buy a ticket and help feed our horses.

Thanks

Hi Family,
The sun is shining a slight breeze. Ahhhhhhh the humidity will creep in heavy later this week, yuck.

Horses, horses, horses..........my dreams were full of them last night.

Hi Alex!

Alex,
Did the TB Brief really mean to say "graft" or draft in the first paragraph... Yikes.

"Alex Brown (bluelinked in original website)pointed out this Paulick Report guest editorial by U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (Ky.), who is currently spearheading the Congressional movement to implement federal regulation of the racing industry. Whitfield’s suggestion is to graft regulatory legislation onto the 1978 Interstate Horse Racing Act, to require states to adopt minimum standards, or else forego their right to send simulcast signals across state lines"....

EXTRA MONDAY July 14 & TUESDAY July 15 NATIONAL TARGET LISTS (HAHS)

Per Daniel, yesterday's (Monday July 14) HAHS list of Senators is posted at the HAHS site today (Tuesday July 15) along with today's list. These both are NOW posted below and at this ABR/DB Thread:

http://forums.delphiforums.com/alexbrown/messages?msg=26403.1

Stress the importance of cosponsorship & getting S 311/HR 503 to a vote.

Heads-Up - per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/request: Ask the Sens who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Sen Mary Landrieu, sponsor of the Senate Bill. Similarly - ask Reps in that position re HR 503, to send such a "letter of support" to Rep. Janice D. Schakowsky, sponsor of the House Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts - to counteract the position of the 2 big vet ass'ns. Links to VEW's two 2007 antislaughter releases and their 2008 WHITE PAPER are at the DB Thread noted above.

Use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

800-828-0498

800-828-1887

800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR/AAHS Strategy and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists.

1. Let [the legislators] know that all three former horse slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently; and Cavel (Dekalb IL) lost its appeal and the US Sup Ct just refused further review. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here are yesterday's and today's (Monday 7/14/08 & Tuesday 7/15/08) extra National Target Lists from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S 311 (Senators) & HR 503 (Representatives); ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind. The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

extra Monday 7/14 NATIONAL TARGET LIST (HAHS) - Senators

HS History: The Senators on this list all voted for antislaughter measures in the past (Ensign-Byrd Amendment), and only Sen. Murray cosponsored S 1915.

extra Tuesday 7/15 NATIONAL TARGET LIST (HAHS) - Reps

HS History - All but Royce cosponsored HR 503 in the 109th Congress. Their respective votes on HR 503 in the 109th and on 249 in the 110th are shown below (Y = Yes; N = No; NV = Not Voting).

IMO - THANK those who voted YES on HR 249 - but remind them that 249 only applies to WILD equines and we still need HR 503 for the rest of them and to end export.

Thank those who voted YES on HR 503; use their prior support of the slaughter ban bill when urging them to cosponsor now. "DO THE RIGHT THING AGAIN - support the slaughter/export ban - but this time, cosponsor...."

Thank the former cosponsors - but tell 'em: "WHY NOT NOW?!?!?!" "DO THE RIGHT THING AGAIN!

Fax: 202-226-0333 Phone: 202-225-4372
2416 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515-1301

NOTE from CJ - because of Rep. Rush’s role on the Committee that 503 is in, his public position is that for that reason he will not cosponsor; IMO - acknowledge this to the aide you talk to, but ask them to convey to Rep. Rush your hopes that the Rep will do everything within his power to get HR 503 to a vote in the House - such as encouraging the Committee to act on the bill and asking Reps Pelosi & Hoyer to try to get it to a vote in the House; and remind that there are presently 205 House cosponsors.

IF you're done with today's ABR/AAHS Instructions & State directions & the above list and STILL want to do more - you can go to post 3 of this Thread for a good alternate target list of Senators compiled by AWI/SAPL.

Pls email me potlucky@sbcglobal.net re specific details re your HAHS contacts, such as what concerns an aide may have expressed, whether you were told the legislator "supports" the bill, did they tell you they only consider input from constitutents, or that he/she doesn't cosponsor due to a committee or leadership position, anything like that. I will make sure our strategy experts are duly advised; this kind of feedback factors into future plans.

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR THE HORSES! Go get 'em.

And as we now know, Eight Belles was wearing toe grabs on her front shoes during the Berby.
####
How do toe grabs lead to these injuries?
####
"Because toe grabs only elevate the toe of the hoof, they lower the functional hoof angle (similar to the long toe/low heel conformation many racehorses develop) which may affect the angles of the joints up the limb while the horse is galloping," says Dr. Kane. "They may also give too much traction, stopping the hoof suddenly on each stride."

He goes on to explain, "Each time a horse's hoof lands it naturally slides a little bit as it touches the ground. This helps dissipate some of the force of landing. With toe grabs we think the hoof may stop too quickly and additional forces may be transferred to the bones, tendons and ligaments, causing injury." He is quick to add, "The study we've just completed identified a link between grabs and injury, pointing us in the right direction. Exactly how they cause the injuries needs further research to examine these two theories. We would also like to look at more common injuries (e.g., bucked shins, strained suspensories) to see if a similar pattern exists with toe grabs and rims."

The University of California Davis research team hopes that by spreading the word among owners, trainers, farriers and veterinarians about the risk associated with toe grabs and the safer rim shoe alternative, they can decrease the risk of injury for horses and improve the safety of racing. This research was supported by the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, the California Center for Equine Health and Performance (formerly the Equine Research Laboratory) with funds provided by the Oak Tree Racing Association, the State of California satellite wagering fund, Mr. and Mrs. Amory J. Cooke, the Hearst Foundation, and by contributions of private donors.

That wasn't a typo, I believe he did mean "graft" but in the sense of addition to or amendment of the existing legislation referenced, not in the sense of the bad stuff that politicians are alleged to do and are sometimes caught doing. The author is using "graft" as a verb to describe the making of legislation/regulations by adding (engrafting) some new proposition into an existing law/regulation. (The word in this sense is also used in horticulture and in medicine, for what amounts to transplants.)

Margie you are right. Lucky's condition may cause him to be subseptible to adverse reactions. poor boy. I'm so sorry.

about hantavirus. it's my understanding that the virus is transmitted to other species by ingesting (UGH)droppings or inhaling (UGH AGAIN) dust and micro-organisms in the droppings. If mice are invading your home and property, maybe adopt a cat? great rodent control. or a snake :) although I abhor traps from a philosophical standpoint, if your primary concern is fleas carried by hantavirus-infected rodent, that might be an alternative too although I've read that the disease is not spread from rodent to flea to human or animal.

I FORGOT TO SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY FRENS MARIBEL AND JUDY!! Please accept my apologies! Hope your special days were wonderful and wish you both many, many special days to come

Did we find a place for Chester and Cruiser? ## used to know a woman who was very active in the rescue of dogs and cats. She always said "I cant save them all but I can save this one. She passed away a few years ago and at her memorial the speaker said "Caroline is working at the Rainbow Bridge" welcoming the new arrivals." She owned a kennel and I worked part time for her. She told me once "Animals have been my whole life and it has been a pleasure". Well, ust thinking about her today for some reason.

July 15 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

Personal choices have shaped our lives. Some were made too fast, without time to see the good and the bad. Certain things were dressed in bright colors and drew us like bees to nectar. We chose, we sighed, we cried. It was mere color and taste, not substance.

Time teaches wisdom---or does it? Youth or age or circumstance plays little part. It is the lust that twists judgment and set us up like clay ducks. This thing, that person, this situation--would make all things perfect? It is a personal choice, a path chosen and not easy to walk--sometimes impossible.

Another nightmare here at the office...neighbors called animal control...about the ferral cats I fed and they have set traps....LORD....WHEN IS ALL OF THIS GOING TO STOP....Innocent animals, horses being hurt or killed.

Posted by: joan roya at July 15, 2008 8:23 PM

Joan is it possible that the cats who are trapped will be spayed and neutered, have all their medical needs tended and then put up for adoption? seems much kinder than having them have to rely on one wonderful person for food, especially during inclimate weather. I have take countless ferals to shelters and rescues, as did animal control and other individuals when i worked in cat rescue in CA. Sometimes individuals trapped them for immediate care and spaying and neutering, and then released them. Seems so much better to try to find homes for them though. Maybe this will be the big step needed into finding them loving homes they deserve

margie in N.M. My vet thinks after 10 years old it is really not important to get the booster shots every year. She gives the rabies shot as the city requires it yearly and then they have their city tags on in case they get lost. Our shelter just keeps them a week even if they are tagged. 3 days if they do not have current tags on. They put down 20,000 dogs last year. They say to check every day to see if your dog has been picked up. Heck. I would be out there sleeping in a bedroll. They arent always too good about the 10 day tagged thing. Lubbock is over 200,000 people but 22,000 seems a lot in a year. They find whole litters of pups in front of the front door some mornings in boxes. I could never volenteer at the shelter as I would probably shoot someone.

RELEVANT TO THE WORRIES ABOUT THE CLYDESDALES....

InBev’s $46 billion bid for Anheuser-Busch is stirring up some pride — and resistance — in the brewer’s home tome of St. Louis.

So much so, in fact, that InBev’s chief executive Carlos Brito apparently felt compelled to write an open letter to the residents of St. Louis, in an effort to reassure them that the Belgian company had no intention of trampling on their city’s Budweiser heritage.

A crowd of about 100 demonstrators marched over the weekend, chanting “Hell no, Bud won’t go,” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Some apparently wore “This Bud’s for U.S.A.” T-shirts, perhaps not surprising since Anheuser-Busch spends about $475 million each year on ads that often tout Budweiser as “America’s Beer.”

Also upsetting locals, apparently, is the question of Grant’s Farm, which is described by its Web site as “the 281-acre ancestral home of the Busch family”. The farm, which is open to the public and claims to have received 24 million visitors over the years, is also home to the Budweiser Clydesdales, the beer’s popular mascot.

“What’s the Rose Bowl without the Clydesdales?” The Post-Dispatch quoted Ron Wood, a “salty ex-Marine clutching a Budweiser,” as saying.

To address these and other concerns of the St. Louis set, Mr. Brito set out the company’s intentions in an open letter published in The Post-Dispatch’s Op/Ed section.

Mr. Brito said that under his plans for a combined company, St. Louis would be the North American headquarters and global home of the Budweiser brand.

“We would maintain a St. Louis civic presence and support of certain institutions, as we believe this is a key part of what Anheuser-Busch, as a corporate citizen, and Budweiser, as a brand, are about,” he wrote.

“Grant’s Farm and the Clydesdales, are all-important elements of the heritage of Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch and the city of St. Louis, and those, of course, would be retained,” he said, adding that “[th]e combined company would operate under a name that evokes the Anheuser-Busch tradition.”

Mr. Brito also tried to evoke the European ties from Anheuser-Busch’s — and Budweiser’s — past. “InBev’s history is similar to that of Anheuser-Busch,” he said. “Our company’s roots date back to Europe in the year 1366.”

“InBev has been brewing great beers for more than 600 years. Anheuser-Busch traces its origins to European immigrants who started brewing beer in the United States more than 150 years ago.”

As for “Budweiser”, Reuters noted that the word originally designated a resident of the Bohemian town of Budweis, part of the Czech Republic. The trademark has been in dispute since the early 20th century, due to the existence of a Bohemian brewery called Budweiser-Budvar.

As for retaining jobs in the area, Mr. Brito said that a “stronger, growing business is more likely to safeguard jobs and create new ones.”

Mr. Brito concluded: “Most of all, it is about making sure beer-lovers in America and across the globe can enjoy a cold Bud. Together, we can make this happen.”

JONNA - it truly horrifies me as to the extent of our economic woes...the country is being sold out to foreign interests! Just last week the Japanese bought 80% of the Chrysler Building, that "grand old lady" in Manhattan. We are in debt up to our eyeballs to China, today the Dow Jones closed at its lowest rate in more than two years...and on the early news this morning, hundreds of people lined up outside their bank in CA to withdraw their funds!

Pls go to the above thread to take action (send email to Nat'l Forest Service via link provided) to limit travel in a Yellowstone Wilderness Area to foot and horseback. The area is being threatened by a proposal to open the area to motorized traffic incl. mountain bikes.

Deadline for action - July 18.

excerpt from DB Thread above:

Protect the Lionhead Recommended Wilderness

Mountain bike activists are pressuring the Forest Service to drop proposed protections for the stunning Lionhead Recommended Wilderness and convert the rugged area into an extreme mountain biking destination.

To protect the wilderness character and potential of the land and to preserve recommended wilderness in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, tell forest supervisors not to waver on their proposal to limit travel to foot and horseback.

If our Congress...would get off of their plush butts and pass our bill...all they worry about is money and re-election...

but you know what...alot of them are going to be surprised when it comes their turn for re-election.....

HANS UPDATE

I LOVE Y'ALL...

PRAYERS ANSWERED.

Y'all are the BESTEST PRAY-ERS in the whole universe!!

I talked on the phone with the heart specialist and he thinks it may be a severe inflamation of the chest wall a rare occurance that happens sometimes after open heart surgery!! The heart enzyme test was negative for heart attack. He said that the inflamation could get into the heart muscle and that would not be good if that is what it is????

He gave him a whopping dose of ibuprofen to hopefully calm and relieve things with the promise that if it did not clear in 8 days or if the pain became more severe that he would call 911 and get to emergency!!!

FOB PRAYERS are pretty incredible!!!!

THANKS for being there for me! It was really scary for awhile and so helpless but y'all made me feel that I was not alone and that's why you are so special and that is why Barbaro hoof-selected you ALL!!! He chose wisely and well !!

WE WILL WIN !! A quote from Otherlyns book is so appropriate..."ain't no evil that can stand up to LOVE!"

HAPPY BERFDAY !!! HUGS and love to you Judy in Ontario!! Does this make us TWINS?????? LOL

STRATEGY FOR WEDNESDAY, JULY 16

I am not sure if anyone watched The Tonight Show last night but Jay Leno in his Monologue told two separate jokes in relation to horses being slaughtered...
He was commenting on the sell of Budweiser to a Belgian company and said that the company was down sizing and had already sold the Clydesdales off to Sizzlers....
The other (not sure of exact statement) was something about ordering donkey on a menu and asking for a piece of A$$...

No Bud for me.

Wow,
So much has happened in the last few days. Two wonderful days (for me, more for others) at the Celebration, spending time with great people and, of course, the FsOB. Some not so wonderful things happened too. Maribel and Hans, two incredible famblee peeples who have our prayers. Horses being saved (good) and Horses breaking down (not so good).
I want to start with the good. Starting Saturday night with the fundraiser at Timothy's. Many of our famblee there, raising money for the Horses. Seeing Mike Rea looking great (and spending a minute chatting with Jean Cruget)! Meeting Jean Cruget myself and chatting with him later in the evening; meeting and talking with artist Nick Martinez (who painted Fearless Vision of Barbaro). Watching Shelly A start a new career as an auctioneer. The first item she sold? A horsehoe from her baby Mr. Boxcar! Me, winning the silent auction for a painting of Eight Belles. All for the Horses!
And Sunday, what a great day! Spent some more time with Jean Cruget and Nick Martinez talking Horses. Doing a little autograph hunting. Meeting Larry Jones and getting his autograph (and telling him how sorry I and all FsOB are about Eight Belles). I bet on Larry's horse in the first race and he won. When I mentioned that to Mr. Jones, his wife (they were standing in line to get a drink just like us regular folks!) said "We didn't do too well in the last race." I just said, "She came home safe, that's all that matters. That's a win to me." Larry Jones just smiled.
Ready Set should have won the Barbaro Stakes. He had a small stumble out of the gate and he charged from way back to almost win it. I think if he hadn't stumbled he'd have won. Two former jockey's (J. Cruget and N. Martinez) thought the same or that he needed a longer race!
I got to briefly meet Michael Matz, Kent Desormeaux and Roy Jackson. Just missed Mrs. Jackson.
Some not so good things today. At Prairie Meadows, there was a two Horse spill with Plaza Cue and Chim Chim Cheri (I think is the spelling). No word on the Horses condition. Then, in the first race at Mountaineer, the #1 Horse was making a late run and would have won, but something went wrong and the jockey pulled him up in a great display of horsemanship, preventing a major accident. Again, I don't know what happened to the Horse. Prayers please.

Alex, a special thank you to you. Without you, much, if not all, of the wonderful things this group has done for the Horses would have happened. Be safe.

NO Horse left behind or Ever Forgotten!

Hiya, FsOB! I am grateful to Sophie's Lee & Padme for the great descriptions of events at Delpark this past weekend. Thanks to Jonna as well for posting from Joe Shelton's blog. He is one amazing human being & it's great to see that young Caroline is following Joe's lead in compassion toward animals. Thank goodness to be reminded that there are some outstanding young people in this country! I read about InBev and Anheiser Bush today. I do not consume beer, but believe me, I'll spread the word to those who do about why I think InBev should be boycotted.

#### To Padme: Hope your finger is continuing to improve.
To Margie in NM: Sorry about the scary experience that you had with Lucky.
A very, very happy birthday to our FOB in Ontario, Judy Scott! I hope that you, as well as our Maribel, had an awesome weekend!
To Maribel: Hoping that all goes well for you at the cardiologist's appt. tomorrow. You know we'll all keep Hans in our thoughts as well.
To Janice: Hoping that Kaiser's day was a comfortable one.
To Barb M.: Will your Nala have another acupuncture treatment this week? I think of her every morning.
To Laurie H: Hello to you, Bart, & Ms. Montego! ####

Have written to the Tonight Show about Mr.Leno's comments on the Clydesdales...and yes, we should keep careful watch over them. If anybody can keep an eye on the situation...we can. I've been through corporate mergers and even though I try to keep neutral on the board, I have concerns about InBev...I know how jobs are cut, expenses reduced...and its a world I left over 2 years ago because I no longer belong there.

I was heartened to read that there are already protests in St. Louis. I also think that Cindy McCain should be contacted to explain why this deal happened...she is now in the public eye and should expect to give honest answers to some very deep questions.

I'm hoping this situation will be a catalyst for people to wake up to what is happening around us.

No wonder we all feel we're having heart attacks, cerebral hemmorrages, strokes, panic attacks, etc etc.

And one more time: May I be struck by lightening: did the Jacksons have ANYTHING to say to the FoBs?
Anything substantive? If not so, childrens, I am just flabbergasted.

Our economy sucks.........banks (due to their own greed) are falling apart and the Joe on the street pays for it.

An American icon such as Anheuser-Busch sold to the belgians who eat our horses, and the Chrysler Building which I look at every morning as I exit my building to go to work, sold to the Japanese. Is anything sitll American? Even my recent LLBean purchases had the MADE IN CHINA lables.... so very sad!

GARBAGE !!!!

Well enough ...I've had enough excitement for my poor heart for one day?? Gotta get some REST !!

MARIBEL, you and Hans are at the top of my prayer list. And Happy Birthday to you, my fren.

Judy--HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Keeping positive thoughts for Bart, Nala, Over Enough, Beau, Kaiser....I hope I didn't leave anyone out.

RE In-Bev: we here in St. Louis are ANGRY and worried. There is no trust to be had. Mr. Britos will have to walk the walk. Talk--we've heard that before. We lost Ralston-Purina (to Nestle of Switzerland), we lost TWA, we are losing the Ford plant and most of the Chrysler plant and GM plant. We're tired and angry. But Anheuser--Busch--that one hurts the most. I was thinking a Mississippi River version of the Boston Tea Party might yet come to pass, but only thought it; imagine my surprise to run across that same thought on two local media blogs last night.

It will never, never be the same here. The company, the pride, all the kitschy tourist stuff, all of it--it isn't ours anymore. Now, when the breeze comes from the southwest and wafts the scent of hops across the city, I won't enjoy it. I'll be wondering, who lost their job today? Whose livelihood just got outsourced to the Third World? What is happening to the Clydes and Shamu and the other animals?

Sorry for the rant--it's been that kind of week.

*************** Good stuff:

”It's a big deal,“ said Mitch Taylor, director of the Kentucky Horseshoeing School, who testified Monday at the commission's meeting at the Kentucky Horse Park.

”I expect to see a significant change, and even if this saves one horse, it's worth it.“

This guy GETS IT.

Jay Leno? Overpaid, resting on his laurels, desperate for a laugh, any laugh...still wondering why Conan will be taking over soon.

Dear Frens,

Tonight has indeed been an exhausting, confusing, and heartbreaking evening.

I just had a disturbing, confrontational conversation with a fellow FOB about the direction into which our famblee might be headed.

Oh, Lord, how I long for our happier days together, such as June 26, 2006 ! I often go back to the archives for a breath of...famblee.

Where are we? Who are we? I am afraid.

I had intended to encourage a movement here, of lost famblee returning to the board, to "tend our garden." But I have been informed that there might be another direction, and a new purpose.

I was made to believe that it is damaging to the "brand name" of FOB, to be one who actually still mourns our Beloved Bay. I was grieved to realize that I am one of the wakos, living in and longing for the past, who make the FOBs ineffective in helping horses.

I really can't go into it all right now. I am reeling. So, I'll just say goodnight, and consider goodbye, with a very heavey heart.

Sweet dreams, Dear Hearts. Please don't forget to take a look at the sky, now and then, and remember our Beloved.

Pray that our famblee does not lose its soul.

Your FOB Fren, O

Otherlyn,

We came here because of Barbaro. We're carrying on his legacy. For him, for all horses.

No good-byes, my fren.

Posted by: Susan E. at July 16, 2008 3:59 AM

Thank you for the good wishes for my Lucky. I think he is almost back to where he was before the fipronil. I take his sling with me when I take him out. He didn't need it today and he could lift his leg almost normally doing the wee, and the du du was accomplished with more ease. He likes to back up to a sage and deposit on the branches. He hadn't been able to do that for a few weeks. I am so happy for him. He gets so frustrated at times. Thanks again.

Maribel - I'll keep you in my prayers still.

Otherlyn, we are the Fans of Barbaro. He helped shape and define us. Who was this person?

Posted by: mj at July 16, 2008 4:11 AM

We have to honor Barbaro. He IS THE REASON all of this has transpired.

((((Otherlyn))))

Posted by: MargieinNM at July 16, 2008 4:15 AM

RE Otherlyn's posts and your comments....can someone tell me how one person takes it upon themself to decide that "there might be another direction, and a new purpose." And does anyone else have any input into this?

Surely not EVERYONE has forgotten who has inspired all our efforts on behalf of THE HORSE!

Posted by: Nancy in CT at July 16, 2008 4:21 AM

## Otherlyn - Let me begin by saying I'm sorry I didn't connect with you at the Celebration ...
there are many I didn't know were there ......
perhaps "flashing name tags" would be in order next time.
There will be changes .... yesireebob - time to get aggressive with legislators and get more high profile and financially able and willing to spend $$$ folk involved. There will ALWAYS be the FsOB upfront .. of any movement .. Barbaro has "hoof selected" us .... and we have made a promise ...
I do not ever see our family going away .... it will likely change - some will drop out and others will be adopted "in" ........ our focus may shift ....... but we will never, ever disappear ...... we are a powerful force to be reckoned with ..... we, as a "unified group" have proven this over and over again ... with our collective prayers ...... and our powerful passion for Barbaro's many friends .... I am more committed than ever ....... to expanding our base - and using our talents in many ways ... and in making a real difference.

Sherry

Posted by: Sherry at July 16, 2008 4:32 AM

(((( Otherlyn ))))

It matters little what others think regarding your feelings about Barbaro. Dictating what you "should" think, feel, do ... is this person's issue, not yours. You know what's in your heart. It's the only thing that matters other than my wish for you to be exactly who you are. And that, my friend, seems to be A-okay with Barbaro.

Posted by: Susan Hopkins at July 16, 2008 4:43 AM

"Pray that our famblee does not lose its soul"

Otherlyn

Anyone that calls FOB a "brand name" never had their soul involved in any of this. There are many on the board now, and the forum - that may not share the connection with Barbaro. They came after he left, so it is difficult to share that. In my opinion, it is simply another wave, and that is OK, because much good has been done in his name. However, the connection some members share, cannot be duplicated by doing good works.... and that connection will never have anything to do with a brand name for heaven's sake! It is a feeling of him we hold in our hearts - and that will not change.

It will never be the same as it was back then - it can't be - but the feelings we shared - the hope, the love, the inspiration we witnessed.....all of that is a gift, a special gift from him. There is one thing I am very certain of Otherlyn - no matter what happens here - Barbaro knows who belongs to him, and that really transcends everything else.

I'm sorry you were so upset by this person - they just have a different view of what it means to be an FOB.

Love, Light and Protection for All of The Horses

Posted by: Mary S at July 16, 2008 5:00 AM

Otherlyn dear one

mourning Barbaro is not what this community is all about. whoever made such comments to you is clearly uninformed. Prime opportunity for education. You have an incredible gift for communication. Get out those big guns.

Nancy dear..it's Dubai that has taken 80% ownership of the Chrysler building, not Japan. They love horses in Dubai.

Since Otherlyn brought up an element that shouldn't really factor into the day to day activities here, I want to bring up one that does, at least for me. There isn't so much "community" here as there has been in the past. There doesn't seem to be as many productive conversations as there have been in the past. There are often pages and pages of copied and pasted articles, emails, even the daily strategies hammered out by Shelley and Debra are copied and pasted multiple times. Efforts to elicit ideas and encourage discussion get squashed. My personal experience. Otherlyn, I too look at the archives from time to time, and am very saddened by the absence of so many who "participated". The numbers of participants now are sadly very few. Have found myself on some pages being only one of many, but hardly any remain or participate on a daily or even weekly basis. You are one, CJ another, and with few other exceptions, that's about all who remain.

What I have observed is something I mentioned a week or so ago, that the climate here is "angry" and "defeated" It seems to me that the anger and defeatist attitude escalates every day. Other than seeing a post on pertinent issues such as the strategy for calling on any particular day ( and once is enough, I think ) a call to arms from Daryl, who hadn't posted for several weeks that I know of, noteworthy news that may get momentary attention and then falls off the screen, significant news about horses in training or racing, those rescued or in need, not much goes on here other than the aforementioned anger and defeatist attitudes, which seem to just fester and fester, and if you aren't part of the festering process, you aren't part of the discussions.

I've tried to keep the old community going, to the extent I'm able, but pretty much get shut down and ignored, even alienated to some extent. So I hear ya. I truly believe the famblee has moved away from the homestead

Posted by: Cheryl Jones at July 16, 2008 5:10 AM

Cheryl - am gonna drop a few thoughts here and then head for bed. I remember many conversations of what seems long ago ...... FsOB would post .. or participate ..... and say they felt "left out" or not "part of the groupies" ....... and then - poof - they would disappear. There are many ongoing discussions at the DB ... and many of those folk do not cross over to the main board ... and vice versa. I could understand. Often I posted ... and still do on occassion, and rarely receive any commentary to my thoughts ....
so I sometimes say ... well why post ... who's listening ?? But - my bottom line is ... heck .... IF I have something to say .... I will, and not really care IF anyone notices or not ... my focus is ... for the horses ........ and getting support from others is secondary. I believe there is still community here. We are involved in tough, heartbreaking issues .....
and while I believe than many still lurk .... and work very hard for the horses - they will often not take the time .... or care to "come out" for various reasons. Many friendships have been forged ... and off board communications are undoubtedly happening - I know they are for me.
I believe there exists, still, a strong foundation here on this board ..... and that mutual support on a larger scale would be good for improving attitudes and activities.

G'nite, all !!

Sherry

Posted by: sherry at July 16, 2008 5:47 AM

Hay Sherry

I totally agree with what you say. Have posted far more on DB then comments throughout the life of ABR and TWR before that.

I wasn't speaking so much out of hurt or feeling left out because I don't get a response to a comment, it's not that at all. It is that the context of what conversation takes place is confined and limited for the most part. And the central themes are what I mentioned earlier, and a week or so back, of defeatism and negativity. As said to Lyn, this isn't just about mourning Barbaro. The community has arisen to celebrate and foster objective, constructive ideas and see them come to fruitipn and celebrate the successes, whether they be a single horse rescued, inroads made for horse safety on the track, after the track, and so on. Remember how we used to exalt the sums being raised for research for laminitis? Haven't seen that even mentioned for... oh, maybe a year now. Just an example. I mentioned this in a thread earlier today and will probably be slammed for it, but oh well. Sometimes it seems that nobody is even paying attention. A conversation took place last week in which someone suggested that funds be put aside to hire/subsidize/retain, whatever, not really sure which, a "lobbyist". My first thought on reading that was "WHERE THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN? WHERE WERE YOU IN MARCH AND THE MONTHS PRECEEDING? Have you heard of AAHS? did you forget that quickly that 100 or so people spent three days in DC? were you even paying attention? " I was floored. So my point was that what constructive discussions take place here? not to say that no one wants to know about personal crises or health issues or that requests for mental and spiritual help shouldn't happen here, that's part of the community. But far too often there is nothing accomplished other than to reinforce the notion that frustration and disgust is rampant because noting is accomplished.

it's late, I know, and this post will probably be unread and tomorrow the same cycle will begin again. It's too bad. Thanks for your encouragement. G'Night :)

Posted by: Cheryl Jones at July 16, 2008 6:18 AM

## Hay, Cheryl !!
Just wanted to let you know - I came back - found your post ..... and read it ! So - now that you know - it will NOT go unread !! And - perhaps others will have input and post - and we can break the cycle, at least for a little while !
I'm here - and am not going away !

As our dear friend, Lynne Brown would say .. yippy skippee ......... one step at a time !

G'nite for real this time !
