    Barbaro Updates: 602

    updates are now here.

Update 3567: NYRA breaks down the Belmont: Big Brown Versus Blueblood in Historic 140th Belmont Stakes.

Update 3566: The Belmont draw is over and a new entrant has emerged: Long Shot Enters; Big Brown Draws No. 1 Post.

Update 3565: A Q&A with Peter Brette regarding Nicanor: You asked, He Answered: Q&A with Peter Brette.

Update 3564: A greyish morning this morning at Woodbine. We had a light day with plenty of horses having the day off after their works yesterday. I had six sets, four went out before the break and two after the break. The two after the break both went to school in the gate, and relaxed nicely. All in all a decent and short morning's work. We have three runners tonight so I will return to the track much later.

Update 3563: Two significant players behind the two of the main contenders for the Belmont:

Kazuo Fujisawa, trainer of Casino Drive: Casino Drive's trainer Japan's best, excerpt:

"For me, he's kind of like a Bill Mott or a Richard Mandella," said Desormeaux, referring to two Hall of Fame trainers. "Everyone there respects him immensely.

"He's just a fun guy always cracking jokes," Desormeaux added. "He really enjoys his job, I do know that. He takes a lot of pride in being able to teach a horse how to be a racehorse. He's just very good at what he does. His specialty is taking horses and turning them into champions."

Michelle Nevin, exercise rider for Big Brown: Nevin keeps Big Brown moving forward, excerpt:

Dutrow said Nevin has done a better job of handling the horse in workouts than jockey Kent Desormeaux, who has guided the Boundary colt to four wins this year.

"The only two times I've ever seen this colt have bad workouts is when Kent is up. That's why I didn't go with Kent. The horse was a mess with him," Dutrow said. "It has just been unbelievable every time in the mornings, except for the times Kent breezed the horse."

    Please keep calling and writing.

Hiya, FsOB! Wow, is it possible that I'll be the first poster today? Alex, thanks for the article about Big Brown; there's an awesome photo of Big Brown nuzzling against Michelle Nevin. So Sweet! But is Mr. Dutrow trying to use some sort of "psychology" on Kent Desmoureux? I'd be eager to see what others think when they read the link shown above. Have a productive day & I may not be on again tonight due to a town meeting, RMH

Morning skritches to the BBH, Sir JH, Gorgeous George, Belle, KeyKey and the rest of the glorious gang in Equine Heaven...

    On their behalf:

    MORNING POST ShelleyA/Debra, WI/AAHS:

    STRATEGY FOR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4

Both the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), have the power to bring the bill up for consideration in their respective chambers, therefore it is vital that as many people as possible, both at the grassroots level and internally within Congress, insist that the House Speaker and Senate Majority Leader do everything in their power to afford the bills legislative due process and bring them immediately to the floor for a vote.

Speaker of the House - Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Senate Majority Leader - Harry Reid (D-NV)
    DC Phone: 202-224-3542 Fax:202-224-7327

It is our understanding that more co sponsors would certainly facilitate our efforts with Speaker of the House Pelosi and draw the much needed attention to this legislation. For this reason, we will be posting the names of Representatives that we will be targeting.

Finally, please mention '''Americans Against Horse Slaughter''' when making your calls and remind them that we are a non funded, grassroots group of people from across the country brought together for the sole purpose of passing this legislation. It is important that they know we have NO OTHER agenda.

Peter Brette answers questions on Nicanor on the blog at bloodhorse.com. He calls him Nicky knocks and said he is incredible to be around.

Posted by: mj at June 4, 2008 12:54 PM

###This direct quote from The Dillweed: "The only two times I've ever seen this colt have bad workouts is when Kent is up."

Now, I may not be the most socially "ept" person (I'm more INept), but it seems to me that if you're a racehorse trainer and you have the BEST horse of your career (a Triple Crown contender) and your career is now focused on a single race AND you stand to reap great rewards if the race goes as you brag--er, as you insist--that it will ... WOULDN'T IT BE SMART TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT THE GUY WHO WILL SEE TO IT THAT THE HORSE GETS THE JOB DONE?

    I mean, HELLOOOOO.

That comment was so rude. It was hurtful to Kent and to his FAMILY (who have been part of the coverage of the Derby AND the Preakness). Moreover, it demonstrates yet AGAIN that some of the PEOPLE connections to Big Brown have "Class without the Cl"--their taste is all in their mouths.

###Great picture of BB nuzzling his exercise rider. I've seen her interviews on television and she's a very focused and soft-spoken young woman. SHE is "Class with ALL the letters."

    ###Argggh.

###On a happier note: "Nicky knocks." I LOVE it ;o)

    Good Morning Everyone,
It's a trough day here in CT, yup they are having a pool party up in hevin. Silly horses.

    Good Morning Barbaro,
You are the Champion of my heart. I love you big boy.

Posted by: Renee Antaya at June 4, 2008 2:28 PM

    KAY,
I agree with you, his group has no class, they are down right rude. I would love to see Big Brown win for his sake. I tend to question his abilities due to the steriods. His people are a bunch of cheats who do not care about the horse, only what he can bring them. How sad is that. I can't believe the racing association allows this to go on.

    Two NEW CO-SPONSORS, Great news!
    Good job FOB's

    Total 203

Dutrow's not tactful, but undoubtedly correct: Big Brown has learned that Nevin's hands and seat mean "This is training, let's settle down and do the work," and Desormeaux's hands and seat mean "The race is on!" Doesn't mean Desormeaux's incompetent, just that Brown's got his number. (I once leased a jumper from a guy who still rode him occasionally and we rode two very different horses that otherwise inhabited the same body.)

And I wonder if jockeys usually make good exercise riders (even if they've been good exercise riders before)? Seems to me it's a different skillset, and someone would naturally be better at one than the other.

Thank Daryl for helping Mike, your the best!

HAY Y'ALL - This sure has taken us a LONG time to plan - but finally, here it is!!!!

As part of the festivities during our celebration weekend in July we're planning a golf tournament to benefit Mike Rea on Saturday, July 12th. When I say we - I'm referring to a group that keeps growing - FOB, Daryl Smoliak, who happens to be a golf pro has graciously offered his services and has been invaluable in getting us totally squared away. Unfortunately, our other FOB "golf person extraordinaire" and Mike Rea fan, Wendy, can't join us due to work - but I know she'll help us out behind the scenes. :o) Rachel has volunteered to help out "rounding up" the locals to the event. FOB Mary and Beverly are also helping out.

We thought perhaps that some FOB along with the locals might want to do something a litttle different during the scheduled festivities and what could be better than doing something that's fun and will also benefit Mike?

So here's the scoop: GOLF TOURNAMENT, SATURDAY, JULY 12, 2008 AT THE CHISEL CREEK GOLF COURSE, about 20 minutes from DelPark. Team event: four person scramble @ $95/per person. This includes golf, cart & practice balls. For those of you flying in - you can rent your clubs for $15 for the day - so don't let that stop you! Checks can be made out to: Mike Rea IRREV TRUST, U/A. There will be contests and prizes. If you don't have a team we will pair you with other players. This is a great way to meet other FOB! The first tee time is at 12:30 p.m. so that you have time to attend the evening fundraiser event at Timothy's.

To sign up, volunteer ask questions or just give a hard time you may email Daryl at shanamrdiv@yahoo.com

BUUUUUTTTT.... here's the piece de resistance...or however the heck it is you say that. Due to the many requests we will now be selling RHINESTONE "FOB" PINS in Lael colors to benefit Mike. You don't have to be present to buy one of these - I'll be happy to take your order. These are very similar to the ones Beverly and I donated to be given along with the single white rose to Barbaro's connections on 1/29.

Trust me, you will definitely want one!!! The price will be $22 shipping included. I will have some to sell at the celebration but I have no idea of the number of FOB that may want one. So please email me mturano@rgcocpa.com or send me a $10 deposit so that I can place an additional order.

So let's show Mike great FOB support - help us make this a great success!!!

    THANKEWWWALL!!!!!!!!

    Mercy

    JOE FEELS THE EARTH MOVE:
(Also: for the calendar Joe's birthday day: August 12. I'm jest sayin'!
    *****************************************************
Wednesday, June 4th... The earth moved. I was pumping gas in Woodland last night. Thought for sure the earth was moving because I had to pay $4.49 for regular. The lady next to me asked if I felt something? I told her it was probably the oil executives having a hearty chuckle. Turns out it was a small earthquake centered near Fairfield. It cost eleven million dollars to fill up the old ranch truck.

At Nugget Market I paid $4.99 for a Sara Lee strawberry cream pie. On sale, a great deal. I write Sara Lee letters, hoping to someday meet her, but she must be busy making those delicious pies. She has never replied.

Back home, almost dark, and 110 horses still munching on supper. Misty waits at the gate, like always, hoping for a treat from town. Pony Boy hates his fly mask, and when the sun goes down the fly mask comes off. Sea Captain had his testicles removed yesterday, and he gives me a pouty look. Devil Badgett, we call him Badge, waits for his end of the day carrot. Governor Lee and I have a tradition. Each sunset is when Governor Lee receives his neck massage. Porky Pig gets her good night apple. 651 barn cats wait for special wet food. The radio is switched from rock and roll to love songs by request. Key Maker had runny poop yesterday, so he guzzles a syringe of Pepto. Shasta poops in the same spot, and we should give her an award. Shasta is low maintenance. Rambo poops all over his stall, and then he likes to roll. Rambo is high maintenance.

On the phone with horse killer Wade Giles, and he has a race horse with a bowed tendon. 40 cents a pound.

Time to return phone messages, and Kelly in Utah would like a shoe worn by Sands Of Time. Justine in Vacaville rescued a paint yearling colt, and would this be a good time for castration? Any time is a good time for cheesecake, and any time is a good time for castration.

And then there were 7 other messages. Can you please take my horse?

Final barn check, and the night is chilly. Pony Boy gets a taste of strawberry cream pie. Georgia receives her late night banana. The only time I ever see Marbles, a calico cat, is during final barn check. Marbles rubs against my leg. Where does she live during the day? An extra flake of hay for a starvation horse. The last few days he has began showing interest in his surroundings.

And now it is Wednesday, and later we could be 78 degrees. Delicious coffee is from Peets, with another slice of pie. KC And The Sunshine Band on the oldies station. Jewels the dog waits to help feed. I wonder who the mayor of Sacramento is? Never did see the election results.

I AGREE...with ALL those who have described Dutrows comments re his WINNING jockey as CLASSLESS COMMENTS!! This jockey is responsible for getting his horse this far and that's pretty far considering ALL the foot problems!!!

I thought Ms Nevin appeared to be a sweetheart(I don't know her personally) and it is somewhat obvious that Big Brown adores her BUT ALL THAT BEING SAID....DOES NOT justify HURTFUL CLASSLESS and UNECESSARY COMMENTS aimed at a jockey who seemingly has been doing his job quite well!!!!
BIG BROWN has made it this far....with KENT on board!!!!????

TO MAKE IT THIS FAR is INCREDIBLE given the circumstances.....

GOODLUCK BIG BROWN and may "THE HORSE BE WITH YOU"

AND that's ALL I have to say about THAT!!!

    Good morning everyone,

Yesterday I went to the funeral of a friend who made many, many calls and contacts for us and our cause. He was one of us. This man loved horses and we certainly lost a determined voice with his passing.

It just makes me double the work I've already done so I can hopefully make up for what Jim completed each week for us.

Please help make the calls too, so we can get to the floor for a vote, and keep our horses safe.

Kent Desmoureux, is a good jockey and man. He does not deserve any sick psychology that Dutrow may use. Kent rides each rqce for his family.

This may not be a nice thing to say...I hope Edgar and Casino Drive win, just so the unclassed people attached to a classy horse lean a good lesson...it is not only about them. God will make his call Saturday. I am so sick and tired of all the cocky comments that come from them.

    Mornin' Famblee

for those who were judiciously offline and sleeping when I posted late last night, will recap: There was a great piece on our local NBC Nightly News. Mrs. Chenery was interviewed, talking about the amazing TC in 1978, and she spoke so lovingly of her horse, the incomparable Big Red. There was great footage of him that she and her family had taken, of him playing in his paddock and just being a silly horse. She said when he was a yearling they believed he was just too pretty to ever be a racehorse. He proved them so wrong. She talked about the TC and how incredible that victory was. She said that she was more relieved that it was over than anything initially. She loved him so much. Her daughter was also interviewed, and the both spoke of their horse more like he was a beloved family member than a TC winner. Mrs. Chenery said that was their time, now it's someone else's. Their dreams came true thirty years ago. If BB wins on Saturday, she will be there in the Winner's Circle as presenter. What a great lady.

Speaking of "great", how bout the "not so great"? When WILL Dutrow learn?? I'm hopeful he MEANT to point out the very different relationships BB has with Michelle Nevin and Kent D. I'm thinking when BB is around Kent, he thinks "OH YEAH...........RACING!!!!!" and when he's around Michelle, he recognizes her to be one of his loving trainers. HOPING that's what he meant but he sure didn't SAY that. And in the process he disses the guy who is a huge part of his horse's success. What a guy. A muzzle would be good

"YES WE CAN" What a speech last night, I was levated right out of bed, I am a republican but he sure can get your attention. I do like Barack Obama a lot. He is fresh and new.

As far as Dutrow goes how about extra super glue on his teeth befor the muzzle.

You had mentioned a book "The Home Run Horse" I have plans to get it, it sounds like the book I am reading "Freedon's Rein"all I can say is it is a page turner.

    Good Morning Kidz.

How I wish I was in New Orleans this AM, having coffee and beignets with my dear friend at Cafe Du Monde. Sometimes we ache missing our friends and the memories. I am 'there' this morning.

Skyler, I am so sorry about Jim. We will pray for him today. May he rest in peace.

NM Tom Udall will be running for the Senate against Steve Pearce. Udall is our Fren, Pearce is not. So I will campaign for Udall. He's a good guy, and if he wins, New Mexico will FINALLY have someone on our side.

    Chenery.

A great lady. One wonders if she used nursemares for her TB foals. And then what became of THOSE nursemare's foals? Where does Penny Chenery stand on horse slaughter?

We know where the Hancocks stand. The Jacksons.
    Many of the Trainers.

I would like all the great families in American racing to stand up for what we are trying to do. To acknowledge the situation, the long-standing situation, and to acknowledge the efforts being made on behalf of the animal that made their families rich and famous and influential.

I don't know why, but this morning, making my calls was so emotional. I don't know what we have to do to make them see....I still think we ought to have a selected couple of sit-downs in front of those god damned cattle trucks leaving a feedlot
loaded with young, healthy horses bound for the terrors of slaughter.

All I could see in my head while talking to the Leetle Aides this morning was that b/w paint mare and foal from the Shelby MONTANA feedlot video.

We need the support of the great horse breeders in this country. How can we really succeed without them? Their silence is disturbing to me.

I know this post will probably offend or anger the supporters of the racing/jumping/eventing greats in the US, but the question stands. Besides adding their names to a few media letters months ago, where are these people.

Regretably, it reminds me of the issues we had with getting Irish Wolfhound and other AKC breeders to support condemnation of puppy mills,
and over population in animal shelters. Spay/neuter programs. The cries of
"No, no! That's NOT US." were deafening. But to so many people a dog is a dog.

Those people on the equine Mt.Olympus need to lean down and lend a hand. Even if it is only their voice. Their name. They need to wonder, among other things, why the grandaughters, and sons of their blueblood stock find their way onto feedlots and go to auction for slaughter.

They need to stand up for the HORSE.
(And please don't tell me they're helping, but wish to remain ANONYMOUS. We need their faces, their reputations, their influence.)_

Yes, Of course we all know that Penny Chenery is an ICON.

So, BEING an icon, wouldn't there be ENORMOUS CREDIBILITY and INFLUENCE to know--and to let the rest of the WORLD know--WHERE SHE STANDS ON HORSE SLAUGHTER?

    Re-post:

Here is the information on the DB about the fund raising for the Brennans.

For those who don't traverse to the DB, here is what it says over there.

Basically, there are FOUR ways to help:

    1)__Donation Jar at the celebration:

____At the fundraiser Saturday night at the reception desk. It will also be at the reception desk at the Grove Sunday, where Sharon will be handing out the meal bracelets like last year.

    2)__Auction:

    Items will be shipped to:

    Rachel Rockoff
    605 E Cope Rd
    Kennett Square, PA 19348

Then, they will put on ebay. Stacy Hindt and Rachel will be handling this.

    3)__Raffle:

____For those not attending who wish to contribute, you can buy a raffle ticket for $10.00 to win a beautiful portrait of Erin. Email me for the mail-in form. (barb_az53@yahoo.com)

    4)__Direct donation:

    ____To:

    Friends of Erin Brennan
c/o First National Bank, ATTN: LOCKBOX
    P.O. Box 523
    West Chester PA 19381

If you have any questions, drop me an email:

    barb_az53@yahoo.com

I think we were put here on Alex's site for a reason.

    Barbaro is the reason.

I think he expects us to DO something with that!

Barbaro brought us to little Erin. Now we have lost her, but imagine what the family is going through.
    They are grieving.

They are also faced with tremendous medical bills, and the expense of burying little Erin.

Please consider at least ONE of the options above to help out the Brennans.

Thanks, FOB. Let's make Barbaro proud!

(Remember that the raffle continues through the end of June.)

Is it possible that Dutrow is just a "trash talker" like so many others in sports? Remember the likes of Cassius Clay (Ali), Cowboy Terell Owens, ex Chicago Bear Jim McMahon? If he's not just a trash talkin' son of a gun, then I don't understand.

On CBS News tonight, there will be a piece on Desormeaux's son. God Bless this little guy.

P.S. I wasn't born yet when Clay was trash talkin. I just heard the stories. :-)

Penny Chenery is an ICON among those involved in horse racing, and was, I believe, in close contact with the Jacksons on Barbaro. So much so that the "Memories of Greatness" poster was issued of Secretariat and Barbaro, with proceeds going to the laminitis fund.

Ms. Chenery has been out of the breeding and racing business for many years, and her health is not the best anymore.

She was one of the signers of the Kentucky Derby winners letter that was used to petition Congress.

How dare anyone question her integrity. Perhaps some posting here need to get off THEIR Mount Olympus.

Here's the addy for Staci Hancock's rescue/retirement fund, Kentucky Equine Humane Center.

She generated a ton of press when they searched for, found and got Gato del Sol back from Germany.

All I'm saying is that her NAME along was a huge caveat for the support, publicity and association for standing against horse slaughter...

I'd consider her an icon as well. Does anyone understand what I'm saying?

Posted by: jonnagrey at June 4, 2008 7:05 PM

okay...one more comment. Perhaps those who question others' actions should do research before doing so, and perhaps should not write in HUGE LETTERS to emphasize the opinion that I deify Mrs. Chenery and perhaps others. I do not deify anyone. Read and inform yourselves, than make educated comments.

Now, I'm out for a while. This just drives me nuts

When I visited Claiborne last year, I was touched to learn she visits her 'boys', Riva Ridge and Secretariat, whenever she is in the area and insists on only fresh flowers for their graves. She loved them so.

Well, Dutrow just cant keep his mouth shut. Big Brown is a great horse but I would like to see Prado and Casino Drive win. BB wont know if he wins or loses as he just likes to run. I know the Triple crown is at stake but since Barbaro is gone I just cant get excited about it. I just hope all run safely. I think Dutrow (dimwit) and BBs connections need to come down a notch. BB drew post number 1. Is that good or bad?

He said he got over his kidney stone attack. I guess he has to pay his doctor bills. He and another guy did the work. I understand what you are saying. It seems to me that since we (the little people of the United States, the voters that elect our representatives to Congress) cannot get enough attention from our elected officials to get them to pass a bill that the majority of the US wants passed then we hope if enough "important" people, celebs, etc. help then we can accomplish our goal of getting the bills passed. And we wonder, if we have given our all to try and get these bills passed, we hope and think other horse lovers should be as committed and if they were we would be hearing them doing it. I just think that you want every horse lover doing his utmost to pass these bills.

With "40,000 throughbred foals born each year" (per a horsetalk.co.nz article) and that does not include all the other breeds saving the lives of the horses is daunting. And you want all the help you can get.

Jonna and Karen....YES....we DO need ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET...yes we DO!

I hope they are helping...as 'quiet' or not, I hope they are....and if they are working 'quietly', WHY are their efforts kept quiet?? So not to offend someone or some group? I know it took me a great long time to finally figure out if people look at their horses as an 'asset' then slaughter seems an o.k. solution...because it keeps the prices for these animals 'up'....if they look at their horses as members of the famblee....it is bad for business...so doesn't that bring us right back to it's a stinking business?

I did get a letter y'day from a CA Congresswoman...she shares my concern...she wrote me a 'not form letter'....however, she isn't on the co/sponsor list...I'll be sending her another fax thanking her for her reply and asking when/if she might be planning to help us out by CO/SPONSORING:/ I mean, thanks for sharing my 'concern' now, put your money where your politican MOUTH is!!!

My hide gets chapped.....I'm about sick of this, it should be a 'no-brainier'.....and as yole have pointed out so many times, the percentage of folks in the USA want h/s STOPPED...so WHY are we in the ELEVENTH YEAR OF THIS FIGHT?? I don't 'get that part'.....

Dutrow is reminding me of the owner of War Admiral (and Man O War) from the Seabiscuit story... Samuel Riddle.

God knows I want BB to win the TC, but hey....anything can happen!

Look at what little Mr Seabiscuit did to War Admiral after Riddle scouffed at the idea that SB could beat him. He too thought it was a preposterous idea that War Admiral could be beaten by such lowly competition.

    Mexico 11,080
    Japan 323
    2006 Total 142,720

    Source - USDA

This is why I won't stop. This is why everyone needs to stand up and be counted.
(Thanks for your notes Karen, Lynne, Joan.)

Do yole remember that amazing moment near the end of Spartacus--repeated in homage to that film in many incarnations over the years. The Romans are trying to identify Spartacus in this huge crowd of prisoners--so they can crucify him--not such a pleasant experience. No one will identify him or betray him to the Romans.

They keep screaming WHO IS SPARTACUS?? over and over. And just as Kirk Douglas begins to rise to his feet, his best friend (worst casting of the 20th century, Tony Curtis) stands; yelling, I AM SPARTACUS. Within moments, another stands and another and another. And they all declare that THEY are the man the Romans are seeking.

I guess this is the feeling i want from everyone working against horse slaughter. The small (that's us) and the great (Staci Hancock et al) STAND UP for what we believe in and declare it.
    DECLARE IT.

And here's one more little thing to think of. Mister Alex Brown came to the US over 20 years ago to ride here--in one way or another--for the TB business.

Over the last two years, Alex has learned and seen things I am SURE he did not want to know. Has images in his his he wishes were not there. He could have just hunkered down, kept riding, being quiet. Complicit.

But he didn't. By God he's done radio and television interviews. He's writing a book. He MADE these websites run. Kept them running.

But not once--as far as I know, does it seem that Alex has shirked from putting the evils of HS out there, educating people on the backstretches, out front in the big boxes.

He could have just turned his head and pretended not to know what the hell goes on at New Holland and he has looke3d into those faces going to slaughter.

He chose to stand up. He took the chance of putting his word out there in a column for the New York Times. Hello? Circulation: I'll have to look that one up, used to know all that.

Anyway. Alex could have chosen to be just a cog in this FoB wheel...but instead he's shaping pushing, shouldering on/ Spreading the word.

That's all I want. That's all I'll say about this for now. I appreciate the forebearance of the Admins.

Safe rides to all on Saturday. I'll be anywhere but watching, but I hope Equine Heaven has lots of safety angels around BB and all the others. If they all come home safe, I'll be as thrilled as everyone else.

And when Monday rolls around, I'll just begin calling again.

    xxoo:j
    Courage.

I guess it is something like the "popular vote" and the "electoral college". And now to the mix they have added the "super delegates". Why do we have to make everything so complicated???
Our Congress is not representing us (voting citizens) and listening to us, they are influenced by special interests, $$$ and their own political agend and the big word POWER. So they are not listening to just us. I do not think that they even care about anyone. They do what they want for the reason that they want to.

We are not only the voting citizens, WE PAY these people as well. I think the ugliness and horror of hs is what keeps most people from getting involved. They just can't cope with it. It would take a couple of Live Aid type concerts on the Washington Mall to get the masses involved. Where are the big guns in all of this?

Posted by: Margie at June 5, 2008 1:14 AM

    Lynne, Karen, Renee, whomever

My point. One should never assume anyone is not "doing enough" or "not doing anything" and make statements to that effect on this or any other public forum without having first researched the facts. And one should certainly not be discourteous to someone else who posts a message that may be of interest to others who know of Mrs. Chenery, again because one evidently is not aware of Mrs. Chenery's accomplishments, and then goes on to question wheter or not Mrs. Chenery has committed some of the more unseemly practices involved in horse breeding.

The point is don't assume. It made me angry. In my opinion, that reflects badly on this group and I don't care to be party to that. It's happened before, and it will probably happen again. Why assume that those with recognizeable names "do nothing"? and why presume that because they don't use their celebrity status to "get things done", "things" don't get done? Has any consideration ever been given that some who do, do so for nothing more than the face time and the publicity? Those who are involved with the drones in the grassroots campaigning get involved for the right reasons and don't care about having their "names" out there.

For that matter, look at what we have done without any name recognition. We've made ourselves known collectively as the Americans Against Horse Slaughter, not to mention all the horses rescued by "FOBs". In my opinion saying we need more clout with "names" discredits all our efforts. And especially discredits the "names" who would just as soon fly under the radar.

am not going to say anymore on the subject. Just would really prefer not to see anyone else taken down because of naivete. Or whatever it is. Would also not prefer to see terms such as "fat cats" and "white guys" and "what they could do for us" not used either. That does not reflect well.

Margie, Hope is a hoof full for her mother. I am glad Jerri is more trusting (to a certain extent) and lets her explore a bit, albeit with a very watchfull eye. It is a testament to Stepahnie's and everyone at MHR's love, care and infinite patience.

Hiya, FsOB! Alex, what a delightful treat that you posted with the link to Peter Brette's blog re. Nicanor (AKA "Nicky Knocks!). Many thanks. Wishing each of you a comfortable night as the Belmont draws closer still. Peace, RMH

To Kay, your comment about "Class with the cl" cracked me up. I suspect that Maribel enjoyed it, too.
To Skyler: My sincere condolences as you grieve the passing of your friend, Jim, who was obviously a great friend to American horses.
To Margie: I have been thinking a lot about "NOLA" for the past month or so. I haven't been back there since the early part of this decade & I really miss it. what a unique city, truly an American treasure.
To Barb in AZ: I hope that your kitty 153 has a good night and that she doesn't have diabetes.
To Sandra: Dang, $450.00 for that sink repair? I certainly hope that Chief enjoyed all the attention, it was truly expensive.
To Laurie H: How is Bart doing? Reading about 153 in AZ made me eager for a Bart & Ms. Montego update.
To Harriette: Please give me a call, if you'd like to talk tonight. I'll be up until ~ 10:30 PM EDST. ####

Anne and Terry took special pizza lunch to all Erin's classmates today. They also brought something for each child and their beloved teacher.

Something that I truly believe was sent straight from Erin: the thought of this selfless act on the Brennan's part. Just read.

Such concern for the emotional well-being of all those 7 years olds...

Please visit this journal for today. It will end your day on a very blessed and sweet note.

    Love my FoBs.

Robyn, I really loved southern Louisiana. My friend lives near Lafayette, in the Atchafalaya Basin. So much history. I loved it all. I could not handle the crawfish farms, and I didn't even have a taste. But oh those Pralines!!!!! Someday I will go back, and maybe settle in Baton Rouge. I saw so much while there. Houma, Breaux Bridge, Tulane, LSU, etc., etc. I ended up in the doctor's office once I returned home. Chiggers. One day I just sat in St. Louis Cathedral for a few hours. What an extraordinary area to visit.

The Natl. weather station says it will be 84-86 degrees at Belmont Saturday. ###man coming to mow front and back yard tomorrow. He is terrified of Chief so Chief has to stay in the bedroom. I tell him Chief is okay but he stands in the street and yells. IS CHIEF PUT UP? Of course, chief doesnt want to be put in the bedroom so then comes the throw a nila wafer across the room and shut door fast trick. Once when he was younger he entertained himsel by chewing up a pillow. looked like a snow storm. How did I get on this subject. ? Yole, have a good night.

I'm hours behind (long school day) but wanted to share with the FOBs something about Mrs. Chenery, who did have a heart attack about four years ago. If you want to read a touching story about a rescue, go to secretariat.com and read the link about Secretariat's brother, Straight Flush, who was a rescue and who died last year at age 32. Mrs. Chenery was active for many years in the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.

Congrats Everyone on the 2 New House cosponsors!! Keep up the great work!!

    STRATEGY FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 5

Both the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), have the power to bring the bill up for consideration in their respective chambers, therefore it is vital that as many people as possible, both at the grassroots level and internally within Congress, insist that the House Speaker and Senate Majority Leader do everything in their power to afford the bills legislative due process and bring them immediately to the floor for a vote.

Speaker of the House - Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) DC Phone: 202-225-4965 Fax:202-225-4188

Senate Majority Leader - Harry Reid (D-NV) DC Phone: 202-224-3542 Fax:202-224-7327

It is our understanding that more co sponsors would certainly facilitate our efforts with Speaker of the House Pelosi and draw the much needed attention to this legislation. For this reason, we will be posting the names of Representatives that we will be targeting.

Bart Stupak – MI Phone: 202-225-4735 Fax: 202-225-4744

    Vernon J. Ehlers – MI Phone: 202-225-3831 Fax: 202-225-5144

Fred Upton – MI Phone: 202-225-3761 Fax: 202-225-4986

    Michael J. Rogers – MI Phone: 202-225-4872 Fax: 202-225-5820

Russ Carnahan – MO Phone: 202-225-2671 Fax: 202-225-7452

Ike Skelton – MO Phone: 202-225-2876 Fax: 202-225-2695

Please continue to gather information from your calls and pass that information on to us via email through the DB.

Finally, please mention Americans Against Horse Slaughter when making your calls and remind them that we are a non funded, grassroots group of people from across the country brought together for the sole purpose of passing this legislation. It is important that they know we have NO OTHER agenda.

We are BARBARO’S VOICE……Let it be heard!!

In regard to my comment here, t/s:10:25p, I'd like to point out that at no time during my 'rant', if you will, did I mean to diminish ANY monies raised by us all, OR the number of horses we have saved in a relatively short amount of time.

I am very sorry if any others of you might have read into my comments that I feel our efforts are not 'enough'.

I was simply 'venting' my frustration after so many months of fighting for the safety of our American horses...and as far as being a 'public embarrassment' to any one of you, if you felt embarrassed by my post, I apologize.

Saturday will be an uneasy day: Evening Attire running in the Brooklyn, just before the Belmont, and Lava Man in the Whittingham in CA. May all of these great horses do well and come home safely.
