    Barbaro Updates: 561

    updates are now here.

Update 3329: Steve Haskin takes his weekly look at the muddling Derby picture: Ky. Derby Trail: Monba King.

Update 3328: New pictures of Barbaro's 2yo full brother, Nicanor: Long-Awaited Pictures.

Update 3327: A nice and easy morning this morning at Woodbine. We only had four sets, and because a few of them were going to the gate (which does not open until 8:30 am) I did not go into until 7 am. All my horses went nicely and it was just a pleasant and relaxed morning's work. I am now off to meet Jen from Jen's Thoroughblog.

Update 3326: Feedback regarding plans for the Derby and the well being of the horses from the connections of those who ran in the Blue Grass on Saturday: Blue Grass Notes, The Day After. And shipping plans for the top finishers in the Arkansas Derby: Gayego, Z Fortune Shipping to Louisville. It looks like we will have two entrants in the Derby, Pyro and Z Fortune. I am hoping Beau Greely's horse, Tres Borrachos, also gets into the Derby. Andy Durnin will be helping to get him ready in Kentucky. There may also be a filly running: Eight Belles Could Run in Derby.

Less than three weeks to the Derby! With the upset of Pyro over the weekend (lets hope it was a surface issue), the Derby will likely have an overwhelming favorite in the unseasoned Big Brown.

    Please keep calling and writing.

Hiya, FsOB! Wow, it's Monday already.... May each of you have a golden, productive day. The sun is already glinting here on the Thames, should be a much nicer day. Can I be first today????

Morning skritches to the BBH, Sir JH, Gorgeous George and the rest of the wonderful gang in Equine Heaven.

    On their behalf:

    MORNING POST/SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI/AAHS:

    STRATEGY FOR MONDAY, APRIL 14TH

    Everyday and Every Call Counts!!

Since March 1st, we have witnessed 5 new representatives come aboard to cosponsor HR503. Everyone has done an exceptional job at remaining relentless and maintaining momentum by keeping those calls and faxes ringing in DC! Your allegiance is an inspiration to all others now coming aboard to join our cause. Please keep up the great work! Everyday and Every Call counts!

For the present time, we will continue targeting Representatives until we surpass our goal of 218 or are directed otherwise to change the current strategy. At this point in time, there are 198 cosponsors in the house.

We are also distributing (via email) a special target list based on the feedback from your calls. This FEEDBACK IS CRUCIAL in determining who to target and how to follow up with members of congress to ensure a swift conversion to cosponsor.

Please continue to gather information from your calls and pass that information on to us via email through the DB.

Finally, please mention Americans Against Horse Slaughter when making your calls and remind them that we are a non funded, grassroots group of people from across the country brought together for the sole purpose of passing this legislation. It is important that they know we have NO OTHER agenda.

    Good Monday Morning FOBs,

Let's hope we can get more Congressional support this week for H.R.503 and S.311. Somehow I can't accept the fact that we are having to fight so hard for this legislation. What is wrong with this picture? This should be a no-brainer. I will never EVER understand cruelty toward people or animals. I think I have the hardest time understanding people who claim to be "horse people" thinking that horse slaughter is OK.

    Have a great day everyone!

####Renee, do you remember Bazonka Donk? He is up for adoption at Long Meadow Rescue, along with a few others. Stan, Mama, Spirit. And Mama's baby, Twist of Fate, is a beautiful boy.

I'll have to watch the Derby again this year on tape. Can't watch live stuff anymore.

Posted by: Margie at April 14, 2008 2:51 PM

###Margie, I am the same way. Cannot watch live racing. I sneak back now and then but last weekend I watched Poni Colada in the 7th at Oaklawn (I think it was the 7th) and a horse was "pulled up in distress" in the stretch with, OF COURSE, no followup or comment by the announcer or the talking heads. This was on HRTV, I think.

At least the horse didn't fall. I am thinking tendon or other soft tissue injury.

HOWEVER, I learned my lesson. Again.

###Good day to all, safe racing and good weather. Bundle up if you're in the cold places and apply sunscreen if the sun is shining. It was 80 in the High Desert of Southern California yesterday and felt like it--very little breeze.

Posted by: KAY at April 14, 2008 2:57 PM

###Kay, I'll watch the pre race festivities, but when they start heading to the gate I hit the record and mute buttons and leave the room. If all is OK, then I'll watch the race. I am not brave anymore.

Posted by: Margie at April 14, 2008 3:02 PM

For those that follow the Missouri horses, Mama's baby, Twist of Fate, (Twister), turns one year old on Friday the 18th. All of them look just great.

    Margie,
I remember him very well he was a cutie. I have to check to see if my ClueLess Too is still there,he had the cutest face, they told me he was a pest. LOL I sponsored him. Every horse there was and is so special.

It is MONDAY....I'll be sending my faxes by this afternoon...running WAY late this a.m.!

Reading Edgar's book until nearly 1A last night...couldn't put it down!

William K.,Nancy,CT,Barbara G: I'm right there with yole...and seeing the pics on Nicanor's Blog courtesy of Bloodhorse...oh geeeeze! He is such a 'baby'...and it's like looking at Barbaro...especially the one taken just after a drink in the shedrow....nearly blew me out of the water! I don't care where he comes in at the finish line...dead last would be fine with me...as long as he comes home SAFE!

It hit 90 here yesterday...and it FELT like it!! Today is forecast to be MUCH cooler and frankly, I will welcome those diminished temperatures...too soon to begin the heat...we need a little more SPRING, please:)

Have a productive day everyone, make your calls, send your faxes....we just gotta help our AMERICAN HORSES STAY SAFE!!

Prior HS history re the Reps on today's (Monday 4/14) ABR Strategy list. Although all are new to the 110th Congress, their "horsefriendliness" is indicated by their votes on HR 249, shown below. (Y = Yes; N = No; NV = Not Voting)

(For your covenience - here's the whole list, w/ the HR 249 vote info added.)

IMO - THANK those who voted for HR 249 and remind that HR 249 only applies to WILD equines and we still need HR 503 for the rest of them and to end export.

April 14 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

Great strength exists in the smallest things. The spider's web is so exquisitely formed, a fragile gossamer remnant. But it is stronger in proportion to size and weight than the finest steel. The hummingbird's wings send out impulses strong enough to resemble the throb of a tiny high speed engine---but early on it was thought that because of the way its wings were constructed it could never fly. Love can be a mere glance, do ka nv to di, a brief word, a silent touch. But it reaches past time and space and mere existence. Prayers, short, deep--a word from the depth of heart and spirit can work miracles and change a whole world.

There is something that whispers to me--to listen to offers of peace.

####KAY...I was at Oaklawn Saturday for the 7th race. I have never witnessed a horse breakdown at a race before. It was the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed and even worse...the folks around me (drinking heavily) were rude and joking about it. I'm a huge fan of horseracing and will continue to be...but this shook me to my core. They vanned him right past me...

I posted about him on the "No Alligiance" thread on the DB:

Sadly yesterday at Oaklawn in the 7th race he broke down and shattered his leg. It was my first time to ever witness a horse break down live and I hope my last. I will never forget Comic Romeo...RIP. He was in an early speed duel with Farragamo when this happened. I learned Farragamo will be operated on in Lexington tomorrow after a career ending slab fracture (?) but should be able to stand at stud later. Comic Romeo was vanned off the track where he was euthanized. Three years old....So, so sad....

Why oh why can the TV and track announcers not say something respectful at this time...or at the track have a moment of silence for horses vanned off...or worse?

EXTRA MONDAY 4/14 NATIONAL TARGET LIST (HAHS)

Today's extra HAHS List now posted at this DB thread

    http://forums.delphiforums.com/alexbrown/messages?msg=22113.1

and here at Comments (please scroll down this post).

FIRST THINGS FIRST - Stress the importance of cosponsorship & getting S 311 / HR 503 to a vote.

Heads-Up - per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/request: Ask the Sens who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Sen Mary Landrieu, sponsor of the Senate Bill. Similarly, IMO - ask Reps in that position re HR 503, to send such a letter to Rep. Janice D. Schakowsky, sponsor of the House Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts - to counteract the position of the 2 big vet ass'ns. Links to VEW's two 2007 antislaughter releases and their recently-released 2008 WHITE PAPER are in the DB Thread noted above.

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

    800-828-0498

    800-828-1887

    800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR Strategy and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT/NEW Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists of Senators: (NOTE SUGGESTION/CAVEAT FROM ABR STRATEGY, JUST BEFORE Prior HS History above the LIST OF LEGISLATORS below.)

    1. Let [the legislators] know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently [since January], and the third (Cavel) has lost their appeal and [is now also closed]. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

    2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

    3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

    4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

    5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

    Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here is today's (Monday 4/14/08) extra National Target List from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S 311 (Senators) & HR 503 (Representatives); ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind. The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

IF you're done with today's ABR Strategy & State directions & the above list and STILL want to do more - you can go to post 2 of the DB Thread noted near the top of this Post for a good alternate target list of Senators compiled by AWI/SAPL.

Please email me potlucky@sbcglobal.net with any specific details re your HAHS contacts today, such as what concerns an aide may have expressed, whether you were told that the legislator "supports" the bill, if they told you they only consider input from constitutents, if they told you he/she doesn't cosponsor due to a committee or leadership position, anything like that. I will make sure our strategy experts are duly advised; this kind of feedback factors into future plans.

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR THE HORSES! GO GET EM.

I JUST LOVE THIS GUY; HAD a totally fruitless and AND ANNOYING MORNING, I FEEL LIKE KAKA, READING EDGARS BOOK JUST MADE ME SAD AND HAPPY AND SAD....
BUT HEREE'S JOE, A GUY I CAN COUNT ON: LOVE MY ARCHANGELS.
    *************************************************8
Monday, April 14th... Mostly I was not a fan of chat rooms because I know nothing about them. Ignorance in my own little world. But now from the sidelines I am a huge cheerleader. On Saturday in a Northern California chat room 4 girls, including PepperSpray and ArabTeen, came together to save the life of a race horse. The 4 girls raised $400.00 in less than 2 hours. Holly Meeks provides transportation, and the gelding will come to us later today.

Recent adoptions include Carli, who came to us from a feed lot last week, and we named her after an American Idol singer. Middletown Road, who came to us from the race track on Friday, and we hardly got to know him. Chicago Bear, who also came to us from a feed lot, and he has a beautiful new home in Clear Lake. And Holy Bit, who goes to a girl in Stockton and she has been waiting for just the right horse.

Lots of readers of this website who live in Florida. Which is why I am going to tell you about Helen, and her phone number is 386-755-3454. Helen has an amazing trail horse who she must say goodbye to. Helen lives in a place called Lake City. Her horse is free. Give Helen a call for more information, and hopefully the horse finds a great new home.

The market is flooded with unwanted horses. 34 phone calls and e-mails over the weekend asking please, can I take their horse? If you can help a horse in need, phone me at 530-383-2120. I might not answer because my hands are full (with doughnuts) but I will call you back. We can even arrange transportation for your new horse.

Yesterday we were 86 degrees, but today could be only 67. A brand new week. I would like to send out a special hello to Heather Caster, and Thank You for the apples. Stephanie Breaux, and Thank You for the box of goodies. Cora Mason, and the oatmeal cookies are delicious. Pony Boy wants to go live with Cora now. A very special Thank You to Becky OReilly who lives in Pleasanton. Dawn Singleton Olson in Nebraska. Kathy Breakall in Florida. Heather Johnson in Florida. Randi Howser in Florida. Jessica in Montana, I really appreciate your letter, and sorry for your loss. And a very special hello to Hannah Sample, and it was great to finally meet you. Hannah is 17, and she is cool. Hannah works in a town called Cool. This summer Hannah goes to New Orleans to help rebuild homes. And how cool is that?

Enjoy your taxes are due tomorrow and we need to file for an extension Monday, and be sure to hug your horses. The coffee is from Dunkin Doughnuts, with 3 eggs scrambled, and 2 slices of toast. A long day ahead. Weeds up to my giant nose. This year the flies are biting. As if they are angry. We provide flies with over 1,000 piles of poop each day. They should be happy. At least you would think...

    Joe

Top Left: Adoption number 50 for 2008. George and Joanna live in Napa, and they are the happy new owners of Middletown Road.

Top Right: That one rare moment in time when there is no poop in our north field.

Bottom Left: With Key Maker and half of Pony Boy watching, Rowdy Red gets rowdy in a round pen. A special hello to Ann & Robert in Maryland.

Bottom Right: A picture perfect Sunday comes to an end, and horses dine on alfalfa and Equine Senior. A special hello to Lindsey in Vacaville, and your poem is beautiful.

WARNING - ProMeris, flea/tick preventative mfg by Fort Dodge

This product (made for dogs & cats) is available via vet only; PLEASE before deciding to use it, consider the following, and discuss with your vet.

    http://forums.delphiforums.com/alexbrown/messages?msg=22119.1

I rec'd this email from a horse friend who boards where my Blackie used to live; she is an RN and runs a pet nutrition outlet. I know and trust her, but as she says, it is just a mailing she got from one of her "dog lists."

(I just checked Snopes to make sure it is not a hoax; pls see note Added on Edit at the bottom of the DB post; I did not find anything to indicate it is not a legit warning, one dog owner to another.)

NOTE the bad guy mfgr here is FORT DODGE ANIMAL HEALTH, the animal branch of WYETH, the drug company responsible for the PMU industry and all the mistreatment of PMU horses - like Nellie (RIP) of MHR.

Hoping this info may save you and yours needless agony. Please let everyone know.

Details, posted at the DB thread noted; one woman had terrible experience with this new product; she herself experienced bad side effects from having administered it, and a number of her dogs became deathly ill; all the dogs survived but with a $2500 vet bill, which she reports has been paid by Ft. Dodge. Her vet pulled the product from distribution and notified Ft. Dodge.

Another reason to boycott Ft. Dodge!

I just viewed the new pictures of Nicanor on his blog. He is truly beautiful and makes me think so much of Barbaro. May he have a happy and safe life. Race or not I don't care, I'm just so pleased we have him (and Lentenor) to love and cherish. Bet Barbaro is proud!!

The Top Bunk video has brought me to my knees with many tears. Tears that he was raced for so long. Tears that his owners put him in jeopardy. Tears at what was done here to save him. I still say THIS STORY SHOULD BE A MOVIE.

Dangit, just a while back I talked toa state office that assured me that Texas is not letting horses go across the border. I think I will call and talk to the same woman. Are we sure about this? ###Nicanor is beautiful just like his brother Barbsro. Of course, he will be his own man. However, it will be fun to watch he mature and race. Well, I cant type. Too mad about the border thing. (thats him not he).

What a great idea!!! Monies generated by the movie could go for horse rescue...maybe even be put into a 'fund' and FOB's could use it for purchasing the TB's at Claiming Races!!! What a GREAT idea, MARGIE:) I wonder if Paul Sorvino might know of someone who would be interested????

    STRATEGY FOR TUESDAY, APRIL 15TH

    Hay, FOB's!

    ###
Have been catching up from being at an awesome chant retreat (yes, KD) and then spending today at the ranch.

    ###
FOAL ALERT!!! We think Casey may be starting to go into labor...prayers for a safe delivery...I just want mother and baby to be OK...this is the first baby she's carried to term, but the vet says everything is fine, baby is healthy.

    ###
Hadn't seen the boys and Shakkah and Casey for about 10 days. When I got there today, Windy and Stormy just watched me so intently and I could hear them say "where have you been?" Stormy gave me LOTS of horse hugs and Windy just wanted me to be with him. Willow and I gave him lots of attention. Illusion is now the one who is acting out...seems to be jealous of the attention being paid to Casey. Shakkah worked on me today...she is showing how strong a healerhorse she is...she's as good as Windy (or potentially will be STRONGER). She has healing down perfectly and I am so proud of her and so honored she loves me enough to work on me.

    ###
I sold another copy of "Cassidy" at the ashram yesterday...and that copy will be winging its way to Brazil tomorrow night. Met a sweet Brazilian woman named Ana who read the book and fell in love with it...I was going to show it to KD, but she bought it BEFORE I could get it to him...so he'll have to wait until 4/25 at one of the Mass. sessions. Wow...I'm international...Harriette, I know your book is gonna take off...:)

    More later.

Great to see Top Bunk given the opportunity to be a horse, happily retired.

Sorry I have not had a chance to give everyone an update on Over Enough and Nala. Over Enough hurt his head on the trailer on Friday and was being watched for a concussion after he got home. After scoping, the ethmoid tumor has returned and he has to to back for treatment in a month. Nala's important cancer check up is now next Monday due to me having to watch Over. Thanks for everyone's concern.

What a heartwrenching story of the brave horse and his friend at Sugarcreek. For them and all the others who do not get saved, please join a state group and let's end the slaughter for our most noble friends.

Hiya, FsOB! Alex, thank you so very much for posting the link to the incredible photos of Nicanor. I concur with William K. and Nancy, I find myself thinking even more frequently about Barbaro as the Derby approaches....

Tonight I'd like to thank everyone who supported the nomination of Mayor Paula Bacon for a 2008 Profile in Courage Award from the Kennedy Presdiential Library. Unfortunately, Paula's nomination was not selected for this year's award. Week before last, I sent individual notes of thanks to the kind folks who submitted letters of support on behalf of Paula's nomination back in January. I know that many people here were following this process with interest.

The Kennedy Library Foundation selected two co-recipients for 2008, the Secretary of State from Ohio and her peer in the State of California. Both of these elected public officials have attempted to ensure that voting processes in their States are valid. It was clear in the Foundation's letter that Paula's nomination was appreciated. As I said to Paula, her nomination may have helped raised the consciousness about horse slaughter in North America for a prestigious bipartisan panel of elected public officials and public policymakers. As we all know, Paula is truly a "profile in courage" and I salute her here tonight! RMH

ANOTHER QUILT UNFOLDS IN OUR LAPS

is it in the clouds racing over the deep blue sky
    .the tracks freshly plowed..
horses being saddled .grooms polishing tack

is it in the curl of a new leaf
or the fresh moss that spreads bright green in the sudden splash of sun

i lay down on the hill of moss
and i recognize some ancient drift
    a calling to arms
    on things melting inside
    that mean so much
    to hear and feel
    and appreciate
the many threads of kindness and noble goodness spun here

in sharp contrast to the world of moments,
    absolute messes
with tribes biting and killing each other to no end
like a tiger chasing its tail
    take the belgian congo
    for example
its own hell and a blueprint for what hate can grow
    then our congress
    like crocodiles
    another example
of things gone so wrong .
    .sordid felons compromised
    to tango with
    this bunch
to learn their ways and not be touched

    what fore and founding fathers?

    politicians
    our congress
    frozen dried hearted
gasping things they use all the time
    packed in styrofoam
    cabinets
    where is common sense
    OPEN the WINDOWS
    LET IN FRESH AIR AND
spray mr clean all over the whole lot

for hearts that broke this week
laid out for all to behold
    lessons to be heard?
let me remind myself of bravery
how two parents follow the doctors
    head to toe
    many leads and trails
as if like hansel and gretal scroungng for calm and direction
    crumbs tossed their way

oh lets try this or how about that? the pharmacological consequences
    maybe nightmares in themselves
    all have to be weighed
    to save this little one
who wants so much to catch up and understand something so complex
as a brain tumor that drips in and out
    like a melting jello
invading corners unseen by the scope

the faith that leads to trust
.yes that is what i re- learned
    once again
standing by the child in her bed

the darling girl refolds her soft blanket and gazes up to the wires and tubes
    making their soft whooshing sounds.
.red light bleeping comforting sign of life at the end of her little index finger..

soft lights in the room ..
her eyes focus on your face to read it
..she says exactly as she feels
it is a relief to see the tender crew she has all around her
    her father
a rough hewn arch angel and her mother
    a fiery tinker bell
you can almost see her using her wand to take care of any wrong
    poof--bang n the head..ahhaha

no one knows about their strength until you see their enduring courage
in action-week after week ,month after month---
and unless they have sat through the night with an injured animal or a child wracked by fever..
    it is a stillness
    all right
where layers move instantly..in the invisible
maybe robes of angels shifting their seats around the bed..

maybe like the rush a wings brushing an evening sky
over a lake that goes on forever
as far as they eye could see

    in that fresh lake water
i find the image of Nicanor
the second of the three brothers
..gifted to the jacksons from above
who through their grace and hard work and pure love
    for a running horse
won the ultimate race of time
    \ from the divine above
    '
it is very clear to me
    that his eyes
    NICANOR
carry a soulfulness beyond his years
his elegant body ,gleaming already with strong strong legs
,he carries a confidence that is mature .for his mere two years on earth

a whole team has caressed him with their expertise and love
they all listening to the celestial shadow
    of
    .
    BARBARO

gifts in the invisible accrue ,add to the weight of his golden soul
    and pantheon talents
    the stillness in fact
    of this entire story
    has its own symphony
    gloriously, beginning now
    a second thread

yes the horses all of them
    TOP BUNK -hurray\
he was saved---to live his life
    in joy
not run into the ground like that dear brave minor..

the angels who saved the two tbs.
    the gelding and the mare
tamme who mourns comic romeo .
.bless her heart ..good that i was not there
but now i cna mourn him too and bess his great heart
lets call the track and tell them they need to honor him too...

i have seen so many remarkable horses
    race and event
    in these two years
    ..one theme jumps out that
when they are connected to their spirits
they are authentically in their muscle and hence so powerful
    as one ..in the moment
    . BARBARO
    curlin and pancho

    so many beautiful horses..
from little dreamer to windchill to layla--
    curious george
get him out of the hospital and home to live and play

    the very fact
    that nicanor and lentenor
    exist

speaks of a great gift .
    .and an opening for us
to get it all done .

.we have the three of them
    ..barbaro opened the big door
and no matter what the other two ''become'
' i am more then content to have them exist. in happiness and safety
. i know they will find their call
    .
the timing of all these events
leave some tapestry to fold and shape
in any heart willing to hear
the fabric taken out of its celestial drawer
ready for hands to cut ..and history to be made

what is stopping any one of us..becomes
    our seeing,feeling, believing

    that faith
    makes the trust
    that BARBARO grew

SHOWED US at the track and then
    EVERY DAY
    IN HIS STALL

    for eight more months
    edgar and others
    bought for us all
that extra time to get it.
.just in case we might have missed it

the blue bucket filled with hand picket grass..
that deep kindness and wisdom that recognized the duality of his fate
    that kind of deep faith
to handle to overcome and become--
    and finally to ascend

Alex: Thanks so much for letting us know about the pictures of Nicanor. He took my breath away, brought tears to my eyes, and made me smile, all at the same time.

Nicanor is just stunning - And what a family resemblance to his big wonderful brother.

Run fast Nicanor, but run safely always.
