    Barbaro Updates: 533

    updates are now here.

Update 3195: Two favorites returned to the worktab today after some time away from the races. Rags to Riches breezed 3/8ths in Florida (Rags to Riches Works at Palm Beach Downs) and Lava Man also breezed 3/8ths, he breezed at Hollywood Park (Lava Man Works Three Furlongs.)

Update 3194: A Wednesday update from Penny at timwoolleyracing.com:

Not such a bad Wednesday today. Gator Nation and Rajasthan had an easygoing morning across the fields. Both are turf horses and seem to enjoy going cross country. Our Diva and Rose Campbell broke out of the gate this morning and both fillies were all business. Who's Happy continues to tote Tim around the track in the mornings, she is definately a lot stronger for being another year older. Kitty was a companion for Saar Treaty today. Kitty has really grown up since her race last week. She is eating everything and seems very happy with herself. We do need to report that Rocky went back to the track today after joining the gelding club. He has remained bright eyed through the ordeal and seems to enjoy spitting his anitbiotics all over me (small thing compared to what we did to him). Administering the drugs using a dose syringe seems to be the answer as he would not eat it in his food. We were hoping to run Molly this Saturday but it doesn't look like the race is going to be run. We'll have to wait and see. Real Lace is entered at Penn National tonight and I hope she runs well and is safely.

Update 3193: A gorgeous morning this morning at Sam Houston Race Park. We had nine sets so it was quite busy. Five of my horses were 2yos and each went to the gate to stand. All the horses went nicely. There was one loose horse on the track this morning, and he managed to elude the outrider who was trying to catch him, but ended up only chasing him around, first the right way, then they came charging back the wrong way before the horse exited the track. It must also be quarter horse day today as there were plenty on the track flying down the lane and breaking from the gate. They are definitely trained differently than thoroughbreds!

Update 3192: Day two of the Cheltenham Festival has been abandoned due to the weather. The races will be run over the remaining days of the meeting, tomorrow and friday. The marquee race for today was to be the Queen Mothers Champion Chase. The feature race yesterday, the Champion Hurdle, was won by the five year old Katchit: KING'S MEN STUNNED BY BRAVE KATCHIT.

    Please keep calling and writing.

Hiya, FsOB! I wish each of you a very productive day. It's only 03/12, but I am getting excited and anxious, anticipating the decision due in late March as to the winners of this year's Profile in Courage Award. I sure hope it's "our mayor", Paula Bacon from Kaufman, TX. As soon as I hear anything from the JFK Library, you'll know! Peace, RMH

    Good morning Alex and everyone

The wonderful "pocket rocket" Katchit won the big race yesterday. He is tiny and brave and all you ever want to see in a racehorse with a distinctive left-handed tick on his face. I couldn't be more pleased. Here are some photos from yesterday:

    Day 1 Cheltenham

We are still experiencing severe gales of 85 mph in some places and it is gusting at 50-60 mph at Cheltenham, so racing has had to be abandoned for the day. The horses could run, but they risk being clouted by debris from the temporary structures being blown across the course. It's good news that no races will be lost, as they are rescheduling them for Thursday and Friday.

###Robyn Yes, we're still in one piece here, though still being buffeted. The winds are due to die down this afternoon and the next two days are due to be really nice. How gracious and generous of you to forego the presents you might have received. I wish some celebrities would think of doing the same - I seem to remember Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas asking people to donate money to their child's trust fund as a wedding present because they didn't need anything (as if their chjildren will ever want for anything either!) How much better to have asked them to donate to charity. And how much more we would respect them.

MORNING POST SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI of AAHS:

    STRATEGY FOR WEDNESDAY MARCH 12

Right now we have a tremendous amount of momentum. We must keep that going and not let up. For the present time, we will be targeting Representatives. The magic number of co-sponsors that we need is 218. We currently have 195. This is very achievable based on feedback from last weeks event. Also, please call those you met with last week and say thank you. Ask if there is any follow up information they need.

Please mention Americans Against Horse Slaughter and remind them that we are a non funded, grassroots group of people from across the country brought together for the sole purpose of passing this legislation. It is important that they know we have NO OTHER agenda.

    Good Morning Fambleeee,
Hump day. Yea! I am going to attach an article on that slaughterhouse where the cows were if anyone is interested. Good stuff, he has to close.

Good Morning Bay Boy. I love you.

    Slaughterhouse Exec Defends Himself
By ERICA WERNER | Associated Press Writer
    7:18 AM EDT, March 12, 2008

WASHINGTON - The head of the Southern California slaughterhouse at the center of the largest beef recall in U.S. history said Wednesday no unsafe beef was processed at his plant but that his company is ruined despite no evidence of contamination.

Westland/Hallmark Meat Co. President Steve Mendell defended himself strongly in testimony being presented to a congressional panel. It was his first public comment since undercover video of apparent abuses of crippled cattle at his plant led to its shutdown and last month's recall of 143 million pounds of beef.

Mendell contended that the cows shown unable to walk in the Humane Society of the United States video were designated to be euthanized. He said they were not being sent to slaughter in violation of federal rules barring most "downer" cows from the food supply because they carry a higher risk of infection.

"While these cows should be treated humanely and they were not, these cows were not harvested and they did not enter the food supply," Mendell said in written testimony. "They were not slaughtered, ground or sold. They were euthanized and removed."

Mendell was appearing under subpoena before the House Energy and Commerce investigative subcommittee. He was a no-show at a committee hearing last month.

Mendell said that the cows shown in the video being shocked and pushed with a forklift wouldn't have been able to make it up the chute to where the slaughter process begins. Instead they appear to be among the 10 to 15 cows that were euthanized at the slaughterhouse each day because they were non-ambulatory, he said.

Mendell noted that no illnesses have been reported from the recalled beef and the Agriculture Department has found no evidence of problems with it. Some 50 million pounds of the beef went to federal nutrition programs, mostly school lunches.

"I am not aware that there has ever before been a meat recall of this magnitude where there is no evidence of contaminated food and no evidence of any illness," he said.

Mendell said he's received death threats. He contended that his company has a long record of good safety procedures and was in the process of taking extensive corrective actions in response to the video when the Agriculture Department shut him down and called for a recall of product produced over the past two years.

"Our company is ruined. We cannot continue," Mendell said. Some 220 employees have lost or are about to lose their jobs, he said.

Two workers shown on the Humane Society video were fired and are facing animal cruelty charges from San Bernardino County prosecutors in an ongoing criminal investigation. Lawmakers have criticized Agriculture Department inspection procedures and called for reform.

"I also want to emphasize that it would be financial suicide for a company to harvest or process a cow that it believes to be sick," Mendell said. "The company does not pay suppliers for the cost of a cow deemed unfit for human consumption and there is therefore no financial incentive to bypass the regulations.

"A single sick cow that enters production also has the capacity to ruin an entire day's worth of production," he wrote.

a little more info re the prior HS history of the Reps on today's ABR contact list.

While all were cosponsors of HR 503 in the 109th Congress, Rep. Sanchez did not vote on that Bill. (The others on the list both cosponsored and voted for it.)

Voting record on HR 249 - Lewis (CA), Lewis (KY), Regula and Shuster all voted NO; Rush did not vote on that Bill; and Meeks, Sanchez and Scott voted YES.

IMO when calling Reps who voted Yes on HR 249, thank them for that vote and remind them that that Bill applies ONLY to WILD equines, and we still need HR 503 for the rest of them and to end export for slaughter.

OK, so I just have to vent: VENT: approximately $80,000 spent by Eliot Spitzer so he could have unprotected sex with a hooker. 2 rooms at the Mayflower.

    Ok. EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.
Think of how much hay that would buy, how much alfalfa. How many stalls could have new floors installed, how much foal formula could be bought.
And the obvious: how many horses could be ransomed off the KB feedlots???

Yes, I know that Eliot Spitzer probably would never in a million years thought about those choices in life. But that he deliberately set about to ruin the life of his wife, his teenaged girls. The arrogance of power...the belief that one will NEVER get caught?!

I voted for this putz. I believed he would help lead NYS out of this hole it has dug for itself
with a hostile environment for business, ludicrous tax increases---blah, blah, blah.

$80,000. I am sure, the proverbial tip of the iceberg. What a waste. Here comes Karma, Gov. Payback is hell...

The Day at the Races [excerpt]

    by jerry bossert
    daily news sports writer

    Monday, March 10th 2008, 4:00 AM

The racing world lost a legend Saturday night when Louis Olah, the longtime "colors man" in the jockeys' room, died at the age of 79. Olah was one of the most well-like people at the race track, working daily at Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga for 41 years before becoming ill just a few weeks ago. The "colors man" is the person in charge of organizing thousands of sets of racing silks, but Olah also was a jockey who won his first race in 1946 before retiring from riding in 1966. He is survived by Clare, his wife of 58 years, and his daughter Donna. Viewings will be held at the Romanelli Funeral Home in Ozone Park tomorrow and Wednesday.

Stacy Westfall on Ellen D - Friday (March 14)

(bareback, bridle-less reining demonstration; horse will be on Ellen show along with Stacy)

Don't Miss Stacy Westfall on the Ellen DeGeneres Show! [excerpt]

. . . the amazing bareback-and-unbridled reining freestyle at the '06 Quarter Horse Congress by natural horsewoman extraordinaire, Stacy Westfall riding Whizard's Baby Doll, also known as "Roxy".

Thanks to that widely emailed YouTube video clip, Westfall has been invited to demonstrate her amazing art of horsemanship to a worldwide television audience on “The Ellen Degeneres Show.”

One of those emails happened to land in the inbox of talk show host/comedienne Ellen Degeneres. Producers from the show contacted Stacy and then aired that video clip of the Congress bareback-bridleless routine during Ellen's February 28th show. The clip linked to this blog post is from that show, but Stacy's on to bigger and better things, just two weeks later.

Stacy and Whizards Baby Doll will now appear on the Ellen Degeneres show in person!

A video crew from the Degeneres show will videotape a demonstration ride tomorrow at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center at Griffith Park in Burbank, outside Los Angeles. The actual show featuring Stacy and Whizards Baby Doll will be taped on Thursday, March 13 for airing on Friday, March 14.

Check the map online to find out air times for the “The Ellen Degeneres Show” in your area.

For more information about Stacy Westfall, visit her website. [hotlink at DB post]

JOE: Here we go: Please protect your archangel, dear God.
    *************************************************
Wednesday, March 12th... Holly Meeks, Jennifer Wright, Allison Martino, Paula & Becky Coombs, Ryan Andrews, Heather Weir, Katie Cook, and Jessica Talbot. All have tickets to see Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood sing tonight in Sacramento. Jessica Talbot was given her ticket from someone in a Northern California chat room. They were talking about horses, and the person said do you want to see this concert, she is unable to go. Jessica said sure, and when she drove to Dixon to pick up the ticket she met Butch, a little quarter horse gelding who was also free. Jessica hopped on without a saddle and Butch took her to an apple orchard, only all the apples were gone. What a day for Jessica Talbot. She was given a concert ticket and a cute quarter horse gelding. Butch came to live with Cathy and I until a space was available in Davis. He goes crazy for apples....

There is a chat room on Yahoo for horse lovers, and several times in the last few weeks money has been raised to rescue horses. I have never been to a chat room because I type with one finger, and no doubt others will click off before I can finish a sentence. Much like real life when I am talking. But what a concept. People coming together to help horses in need. A girl they say goes to college in Davis, and in the chat room they call her Duc Tape. She bought $500.00 in grain and hay to help feed starving horses in Elverta. And another person called Blond Mane, and she arranged for 80 bales of alfalfa for a family struggling to keep their horses. I learn these things from Holly Meeks, who is constantly reminding me about the goodness of others.

Which is very much needed, because horse killer Manny Phelps phones to say he has another starving filly, she looks just like Sweets, and if I buy her before she dies I can name her Salts.

And horse killer Wade Giles says go ahead, show his picture on my morning journal. He hopes it will help him get a date.

    more to come

I said sure Wade. There are gobs of girls waiting to have a relationship with a man who makes his money by slaughtering horses. A dream come true.

Coming to us tomorrow from the race track is a horse who won 19 races. Just imagine. What a warrior. Enjoy your good is everywhere Wednesday, and be sure to hug your horses. The coffee is from Tulleys, good stuff, and cinnamon rolls with melted butter were made by Nugget.

    This is shocking!

from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture

An agreement signed March 10 will enable horsemen from Kentucky and Mexico to share knowledge and resources and set up commercial and technical exchanges to improve both equine industries.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer and Jos Manuel Alavez, president of the Mexican Association for Equine Development and Promotion, signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a public-private equine partnership during a ceremony at the Keeneland Library.

Farmer said equine interests for the two nations will work together on genetics, nutrition, health, breeding, and other aspects of the horse industry.

The bottom line is that we will be selling more horses to Mexico, Farmer said. That is good for the economy of Kentucky. Were very, very excited about entering into this agreement and look forward to working together for many years to come.

Keeneland president Nick Nicholson said the partnership will build on the success Kentuckys horse industry has enjoyed in selling horses to Mexico.

Over the last few years, we have sold to Mexico a total of about $17-18 million (in horses) already, Nicholson said. The average they are buying is increasing each year. And they are having wonderful success. If you follow their classic races in Mexico, more and more you will see horses that were born and raised in Kentucky and that were sold here

    Autism Awareness faces knee surgery
    By CHUCK DYBDAL

El Camino Real Derby winner Autism Awareness will undergo surgery Friday at Golden Gate Fields to remove a small chip from his left knee, according to trainer Genaro Vallejo.

Vallejo said he noticed warmth in the knee Tuesday morning and immediately took the colt to Golden Gate Fields's equine hospital for X-rays, which revealed the chip.

The colt scored a $126 upset with his 1 1/2-length victory in the Grade 3, $150,000 El Camino Real Derby over Nikki'sgoldensteed on Saturday.

"He's been very special to me," Vallejo said. "He's just a nice colt, and we don't want to take a chance because we think he'll be an even better horse. I talked with the vet, and he said it was a very small chip. We don't know when it happened, but I've watched videos of the [El Camino Real]. He usually switches leads right away, but it took a while in that race, although when he switched, he took off."

Vallejo said it would be at least two months before he would consider bringing the colt, owned by Johnny Taboada, back to the track.

Well, Renee`, I guess if the horses are already IN Mexico....there won't be the transport over borders for the 'processing plants' issue, will there?

My hope, along with 'yole', is that when they ARE sold to the Mexican peeples, they will be used for racing/breeding....I wonder how many horse rescues there are in Mexico:/

Wish I could share the 'excitement' for this 'partnership' as much as Mr. Nicholson seems to have....but it's just not here...I cannot find it 'anywhere':/

EXTRA WEDNESDAY 3/12 NATIONAL TARGET LIST (HAHS)

FIRST THINGS FIRST - Stress the importance of cosponsorship & getting S 311 / HR 503 to a vote.

Heads-Up - per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/request: Ask the Senators who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Senator Mary Landrieu, sponsor and promoter of the Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts - to counteract the position of the 2 big vet ass'ns. Links to VEW's two 2007 antislaughter releases and their recently-released 2008 WHITE PAPER at the DB Thread noted near the bottom of this Post.

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

    800-828-0498

    800-459-1887

    800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR Strategy and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT/NEW Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists of Senators: (NOTE SUGGESTION/CAVEAT FROM ABR STRATEGY, JUST BEFORE Prior HS History above the LIST OF LEGISLATORS below.)

    1. Let [the legislators] know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently [since January], and the third (Cavel) has lost their appeal and [is now also closed]. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

    2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

    3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

    4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

    5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

    Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here is today's (Wednesday 3/12/08) extra National Target List from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S 311 (Senators) & HR 503 (Representatives); ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind. The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

    Wednesday 3/12 Extra HAHS List

Prior HS History: All these Senators voted for the Ensign-Byrd Agriculture Appropriations Amendment in 2005. None cosponsored S 1915 in the 109th Congress.

March 12 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

It is too easy to believe we are at the end of the line when it is only the beginning. One more step, one more effort may be all that is needed. It would amaze us if we knew how close we are to stepping past an old barrier---and it would shake us to know how close we came to quitting. Some would say it is too late--that too much has happened, we cannot go back and recapture what was lost. We have destroyed too much, bent the twig too far. And so it is true in some things. It is true that we have hurt and been hurt. We can't go back, but the spiritual basis on which we stand can lift us up. Sometimes we have to sift our own lives to see what is worth saving, and then we find the Great Spirit made us. What He made is good and we should not let it go to waste. It is time to turn over a new leaf to rediscover Divine connections.

Especially since the United States will be stopping slaughter...Duuuuuuh.

It is easy now that the mexicans can drive in and drive out. How do we know what is in those trucks?
How easy we as a nation make it for everyone else. We need to take this country back and what belongs in it. Pssssssssssssssssssedt/grrrrrr>

add me to the list of everyone that would like to see Spitzer gelded ( I would like to say "and sent to slaughter", but I won't cause that would sound to harsh and mean). It is to bad he didn't think of that when he put his needs before that of his family. But, power corrupts and the truth always comes out sooner or later, when will they learn this??? Soooo much money to have just been wasted away when good (helping rescues etc) could have been done. It is a shame and I am glad he is gone from politics.

    Had you ALL seen this?

It was in the Sam Houston Race Park program a few weeks ago.

Alex Brown is an exercise rider at Sam Houston Race Park, and most notable, he is known for running a website that plays host to Fans of Barbaro. The magnificent Thoroughbred entered the 2006 Kentucky Derby undefeated and ended up winning by the largest margin since 1946; however, two weeks later Barbaro ran in the Preakness Stakes and fractured several bones in his leg that ended his racing career and eventually led to his death.

The national spotlight surrounded Barbaro after his breakdown in the Preakness and he became the object of care and affection from the public in a way only a fewanimals ever have before. Brown recognized the amount of attention from Barbaro’s admirers and decided to combine his passion for horses and interest in marketing and technology by creating a website where he, along with trainer friend Tim Woolley, blogged about training horses and various racing topics. “After Barbaro won the Kentucky Derby I told Tim, ‘since there aren’t many people reading our site, we should write about Barbaro getting ready for the Preakness.’ So I ran some Google ads to drive traffic to the website.”

“When Barbaro got hurt in the Preakness my immediate reaction was to quit and not continue this project under the circumstances; but the next day while Barbaro was at New Bolton Wellness Center I was looking around on the internet and I could tell people were Googling Barbaro and getting no answers.” After calling a few of the veteranarians working with Barbaro, Brown was able to update the ads he ran off his website. “That night Barbaro came out of surgery and I was actually the first person to post anything about it.”

Brown was there throughout Barbaro’s recovery and became close friends with his owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson. “Mrs. Jackson made it clear she wanted to support horse welfare issues, and one of the key issues she wanted to focus on was ending horse slaughter.” The zealous combination of Brown, the Fans of Barbaro and Jackson focused on rescuing horses in the slaughter pipeline. “The first horse we saved was September 2006, and now we’ve been able to rescue more than 1,900 horses and raise more than $800,000 to support the cause and raise awareness.”

What started off as a project has developed into a force in terms of rescuing horses. “When Barbaro passed away I decided to focus solely on this project and put everything else to the side,” stated Brown, a former internet marketing professor at the University of Delaware. In late 2007, while working at Presque Isle Downs, Brown met up with one of Steve Asmussen’s trainers and asked him if he could help him with a job in Texas. Following that conversation Brown found his way to Houston, Texas, just before the start of the 2007-2008 Thoroughbred Meet. “I think this is a brilliant race track and the surface is amazing. The trainers here seem to really care about what goes on with their horses.”

“This one project has drawn together all the things I’m skilled at and passionate about, including marketing, technology and horses.

I’ve committed myself to ending horse slaughter. I love looking in the mirror each morning and being proud of what I’m doing and feeling as if I’m giving something back.”

I wonder if anyone else had trouble with the aide in Rush's office (I think that's who it was - I left the list in the car). He said something about professional courtesy, blah, blah. He talked so fast I couldn't understand what he said. I asked him to repeat it and he did - but with the same speed so I still didn't understand him. With what seems like zillions of calls I've made, I never had that happen before.

Tomorrow is a new day with a new list.

    Good Night FOBs

###Jonna, I should not have made that personal attack. I just have no respect for these people. After all, if the rest of us did this stuff at work, we'd get fired. I believe it is called immoral terpitude?

I was just trying to investigate the Santa Theresa border crossing here in New Mexico. I check on it once a week, just to see what's new. I only got as far as the new hours. It is now open to commercial traffic 4 hours longer every day. Then my computer froze and I had to reboot. I'll check it again tomorrow.

    Jan,

Yes, I had the same experience with Rep Bush's aide. He asked where I was calling from, I told him Texas, and he said I needed to talk to my rep and said as a professional courtesy, he would transfer my call to his office. He did tald very very fast. I was lucky I understood any of it. I told him I had already talked with my Rep, and gave him my speil anyway, but that if Rep Bush didn't want to hear opinions from anyone outside his district that was OK.

Hiya, FsOB! Alex, thanks for the link to the article about RTR. Is she a beauty or what? And to dear Liz in the UK, may the winds and rain subside for Chelthenham. Perhaps if stewards in this country had been more thoughtful of track safety during torrential weather, then George Washington would be safe back in Ireland now. I hope that all went well for Erin Brennan during chemo tx. # 3 today. Peace to all in the Barbaro Nation worldwide, RMH.

    #### To Liz in the UK: Yes, I admit to reading people magazine when Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones were married. (I had a crush on him during his "Streets of San Francisco" days when I was in 9th grade.) But that whole scene was "de trop" in my opinion. I am grateful to have a one of a kind man in my life who "gets it", an amazing Husky from a shelter operation in Maine, and only 28 more years of mortgage payments (ha! ha!)on a historic home that makes me pinch myself with wonder whenever I drive up to it each night. So I'd rather see that others' needs are met, I am quite content with my life.
To Janice: Yes, Paula Bacon is truly an inspiring woman, isn't she? I'd say Paula would make an AWESOME governor or US Senator someday!
To Jonna: Snow in your part of NY today? We had icky rain in CT and RI today. And how in Hades did you remove a staple from your own forehead? Wasn't it fairly close to your eyebrow? Ouch!
To Margie re. the gelding fund for the former Governor of NY: He would have already been gelded by this AM if his wife were of German, Sicilian, & Cherokee heritage like this FOB is!
To Renee: I admit to have partaken of more than enough "liquid refreshment" (KY parlance for alcoholic beverages) on innumerable occasions during my early days in college. But never, ever, was I so blotto that I would've succumbed to someone at the local bar who was as icky as Eliot Spitzer (a definite three-bagger if there ever was one!).
Where is our dear Martita? I hope that your fractured ribs are healing well!
To Cheryl Jones: Yes, does Wade G. think that any sentient woman would knowingly want a date with someone who helps slaughter majestic creatures?
To Saundra: Sorry about your back pain, Saundra. Please give Chief a 'nilla wafer for me, OK? ####

Karen, I have about given up on our senators. I have written and Called and called. same old form letter. ###I was wondering did someone pay the slime to board Windchill? If so cant they sue? I sure would. ###Quarter horse racing is big in this area. I have always preferred throughbred racing. qtr. horse races are very short. However, I always loved to watch the cutting horses with cattle on my grandads ranch. When they couldnt cut anymore due to age, etc they lived the rest of their lives there with great care.

    **** WINDCHILL FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER ****

    Hello everyone,

I am sooo appreciative for ALL of the donations, kind and supportive words written in the cards and notes and help in bumping the Windchill Foundation Fundraiser thread and mentioning it on the Board. (Hello Nancy in CT! Love ya' lady!)

This is the first time I have ventured into the Fundraising Ring and I am soo proud of my Minnesota Fan partners, Leslie, Linda and Becky. They have such a contagious sense of adventure, humor and support.

I am sooo blessed to know them. And, I am sooo blessed to have found the Fans of Barbaro. This experience will never be matched or overshadowed by any other venture I may find myself taking.

Wind Chill's story was one that should have never HAD to have been told. But, here we are. And, the Minnesota Fans will stay. We love this little guy...this little guy we never met. (Just like our Barbaro.) They live in our hearts...

Thank you everyone. There is still time to mail in your donation. If Montego needs a bigger grooming bucket to put names into, consider it done! With pleasure!!!

    Good night. xxoo

    STRATEGY FOR THURSDAY, MARCH 13

Right now we have a tremendous amount of momentum. We must keep that going and not let up. For the present time, we will be targeting Representatives. The magic number of co-sponsors that we need is 218. We currently have 195. This is very achievable based on feedback from last weeks event. Also, please call those you met with last week and say thank you. Ask if there is any follow up information they need.

Please mention Americans Against Horse Slaughter and remind them that we are a non funded, grassroots group of people from across the country brought together for the sole purpose of passing this legislation. It is important that they know we have NO OTHER agenda.

Thanks for the blue link Barb.

Nancy - I'm not sure what is going on. From what I understand Clydes take longer to get moving but that baby doesn't look good to me and she had difficulty at birth breathing. Apparently she was a bit colicky and has had an enema. I really can't take the loss of another baby!

Candles lit for Windchill and Barbaro - every day!

a little more info re the prior HS history of the Reps on today's (March 13) ABR contact list.

Voting record on HR 249 - McCarthy (CA) and Lamborn (CO) voted NO; the rest on today's list voted YES.

IMO when calling Reps who voted Yes on HR 249, thank them for that vote and remind them that that Bill applies ONLY to WILD equines, and we still need HR 503 for the rest of them and to end export for slaughter.
