Barbaro Updates: 522

updates are now here.

Update 3147: A half brother to the last two Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags to Riches, Casino Drive recently broke his maiden impressively in Japan and is being considered for a tilt at this year's Belmont Stakes: Japanese Colt Pointing For Belmont.

Update 3146: Curlin will be running at about 11:15 am Thursday East Coast Time. Notice how big his pony is, Poncho (Curlin is not small by any means). I asked our assistant, Darren, this morning what type of horse Poncho was and while he did not give me a straight answer he figured he must have a bit of Clydesdale in him: Curlin ready for his desert debut.

Update 3145: A busy morning this morning with nine sets, six before the break and three after the break. The first set was interrupted by the siren indicating there was a loose horse. No sooner did the siren go off but a horse came galloping by riderless. Not thinking much more of the situation I continued jogging back to the gap (we had finished galloping) and another loose horse came flying by. I guess when you hear the siren you cannot assume its only one loose horse! The rest of the morning was relatively quiet. We took a couple of the baby sets to the gate. Our final set of babies (2yos) were new, they did not visit the gate, just an easy gallop around to get used to their new surroundings. They arrived yesterday from Loredo (Keith Asmussen breaks them in). Mine was a son of Tapit, quite a forward little guy. We will see. All in all a decent morning's work with a cold beginning but soon warming up to a bright sunny day.

We now have 74 people confirmed to come to DC for Americans Against Horse Slaughter.

Update 3144: A busy week for Steve Asmussen includes working his three leading 3yos, Pyro, Z Fortune and J Be K, as they prepare for their next start along the Triple Crown trail: Asmussen sets plans for 3-year-olds
, excerpt:

For Pyro, it was a welcome return to the typical after a loose horse disrupted his five-furlong work the week before.

"I loved the work," Asmussen said. "This is where I want him at rhythm-wise. The loose horse last week screwing things up, I didn't like."

Asmussen said Pyro would work in company again Monday, but not with Zanjero.

"We want him nice and relaxed the last week before the Louisiana Derby," Asmussen said. "Working with another horse really seems to set a rhythm with him. It keeps him from trying to impress anybody."

We are less than a week away from Americans Against Horse Slaughter in DC. We have about 65 people who have committed to attending, so this should be an excellent two days. If you are thinking about joining, you are encouraged to do so. We will host a chat tomorrow evening to answer any last minute questions: DC EVENT CHAT MEETING THURSDAY 7PM.

Please keep calling and writing.

Good morning, fellow Fans!

I believe forces are coming together in our favor right now. So many news stories and celebrites talking about horse slaughter being wrong! Even our local news here in Maine has covered 2 stories this week about rescues - see

Horse Rescue Barn...

for the latest one. While not great news for these people, it does mention the "s" word. There was another story on the same station over the weekend about how the state animal welfare agency has not made use of stalls set aside by several rescues last year because the agency does not have enough staff to investigate and prosecute abuse and neglect cases. This in a state where it was annouced yesterday that our budget deficit is twice what was expected earlier. Oy Vey! What to do?

All the above just fuels my desire to do good for the horses and to stop the ugliness that is slaughter. I am inspired for my DC trip next week. I have written a thank you note to the news editor at the station and I will write to the Animal Welfare Officer as well.

Peace to all in need. Off to shovel last night's snow off the walk and deck.

Good Morning everyone,

I just watched the video about stopping horse slaughter that Cheryl posted a link to at the bottom of the last update. It is excellent! The song "Keep Holding On" was used as the background music and Barbaro's picture was woven throughout it. Thank you Brooke and Cheryl. It is very powerful.

MORNING POST, SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI

STRATEGY FOR WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 27

AMERICANS AGAINST HORSE SLAUGHTER will be a historic event that can change the future of American horses. We need a huge turnout. Please consider attending. To those of you close enough to DC, even if you cannot attend the two days of lobbying, we would love for you to come to the Cocktail Reception from 7-9PM on Tuesday, March 4. For details go to DB thread Official Information for DC Event

For those of you who are unable to attend, there will be much you can do to help from home to make a huge impact to push this legislation and play your part. Senators and Representatives will be in their district offices March 15th-30th. To keep the momentum going, meetings can be scheduled, letters can be dropped off and calls can be made to their local offices. Also, we need to bombard DC with hundreds of calls and faxes during the days of March 4th and 5th. Those phones need to be ringing off the hook and fax machines busy.

We encourage you to use this week to make appointments with YOUR legislators for March 4th and 5th. Even if you cannot attend, there will be plenty of knowledgeable folks there that can attend a meeting on your behalf. Just tell them that, as a constituent, you are authorizing a member of Americans Against Horse Slaughter to meet on your behalf. Once you get a meeting set, contact Julie Caramante so she can put it on the schedule. Also, send a letter to Lucille as per the instructions on the Discussion Board addressed to the person we are meeting expressing your desire to have him/her support any legislation to end horse slaughter and the transportation of horses to slaughter. This letter will be presented at the meeting

In addition, when calling your legislators, please mention our Americans Against Horse Slaughter reception and offer to email them an invitation. Also, please call on your own Representatives and Senators and ask them to attend our event as well as to support any legislation that would ban horse slaughter and the transport of our horses to slaughter.

There will be a Chat on Thursday at 7PM for those of you who may have questions about the DC event. Just click on the Chat Room and log in.

WE ARE BARBARO’s VOICE. Let it be heard!!
Thanks for all you do,
Shelley and Debra

My letter included who their Senators and Representatives are, their phone and fax numbers and whether they are a co sponsor or not. Just trying to get DC "a buzz"....

#### The Kentucky Equine Humane Center Fundraising is still in progress. This is an effort to raise funds to sponsor a class in the FOB's name in a horse show on March 29th in Shelbyville, KY. Article in the Louisville KY Courier Journal. Please read and leave comments. You will need to register to leave comments. But it is free.

Some points to make... horse slaughter is still an available option. Yes overbreeding is a problem....horse slaughter only makes that problem worse because it provides a market for those "overbreeding" mistakes. We need to prosecute those people that abuse and neglect. There are proposals out there for state wide gelding programs. There are proposals out there for euthanasia programs. Kill buyers still exist in Kentucky. I am sure you can think of more....

Hello everyone,

Yesterday Dawn, Christine and I met with Senator Ben Nelson's aide. We tried our best to convince them. I wanted to post today to publically thank Dawn and Christine for all they did for this meeting. These ladies ROCK! Dawn prepared a booklet for the aide to show Senator Nelson, she took time to highlight key points to make it easier for them, to really hit home on important topics. She had handouts for all attendees, very professionally done.

Christine also prepared an amazing report for them and also discussed the upcoming event in DC. Christine also drove a long distance to come to this meeting.

Dawn and Christine are outstanding ladies, who did us proud. With these two special souls on our side, we cannot lose.

I know that Linda and Ed were there in spirit with us and we will all continue to do all we can for our horses. Daryl as well needs to be recogized as he helped a great deal here.

Again, Dawn and Christine, thank you.

Good morning everyone! Sunny cold and windy here in SC today. Little Miss Sophie is out running circles around her momma. She is wearing her widdle plaid winter baby blankie. Too cute. Her father also has new awesome blanket on. One problem...his daddy left the tag on it so he looks like Minnie Pearl!

Sophie says "Aunties Jonna and Lynne - where's the Windstar? What's a beach?"

Did we ever find out if action can be taken.

When Congress Forgets

There is a statute known as the 'Humane Slaughter Act of 1958'. This statute was signed into law by President Eisenhower during the time the 'Sputnik' went into space. This simple, concise statute has been completely ignored by the USDA; this agency has never enforced it for horses. By virtue of the HSA of 1958, horse slaughter is, and has been, illegal since 1958. Congress forgot about that.

The statute stipulates that only one blow to the head of any animal being slaughtered is allowable to achieve insensibility. This does not happen with horses. They cannot be restrained due to the length of their necks, and additionally the captive bolt was designed for bovines, not equines. Horses' brains are too far back in the skull to make the use of the bolt efficient. Horses regain consciousness thirty seconds after being struck, if they are struck at all. Horses are fully aware they are being vivisected.

Rather than enforcing the existing statute, Congress has been unsuccessfully attempting to pass an amendment to the 'Horse Protection Act of 1971.' The 'American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act' (introduced in the 107th Congress) is actually the HSA of 1958 as applied to horses with a 'no export' clause. Congress should enforce the HSA of 1958 and amend the 'Horse Protection Act of 1971' to include the prohibition of exports of American horses to other countries for slaughter.

The HSA of 1958 prohibits the slaughter of horses for any purpose. Carnivore food, hair extensions for humans and show horses, and any other products that can be extracted from a dead equine are prohibited by the statute. There are operating equid slaughterhouses in NJ (Bravo Packing) as well at least two other states. The American public is unaware of these plants as they do not slaughter for human consumption. These plants are operating in violation of a federal statute and this statute must be enforced and these plants closed.

I got deflected from my "appointed rounds" when I saw the SD situation needing comments. Just submitted this for posting, hoping it will show up.

Horses are sentient beings. I can attest to this as a horse owner. Horse slaughter is not humane euthanasia. Please see materials at www.vetsforequinewelfare.org (especially a White Paper issued in January 08).

The vast majority of Americans are in favor of a total ban on horse slaughter for human consumption and transport/export for such purpose. The proposed federal ban (S. 311 / HR 503) will nullify South Dakota's attempt to "resurrect the monster" and then you will have to "secede from the Union" to carry out your intentions.

Why don't you people in South Dakota get in touch with reality and spend your time and money on something worthwhile that would accomplish multiple objectives - like using horses in prison rehab programs and in hippotherapy (a recognized branch of physical and/or psychological therapy for humans utilizing horses)? Take those horses you want to kill and put them to work to help people; how about THEM apples?

Caroline Jaffe in Hammond IN

PS - TO THE EDITOR: In the information that appears under the "Post Comment" box, the second word is "preceeding," a misspelling of the obviously intended word, "preceding." While someone could (and did) write this, what kind of staff do you have, to allow this to appear for all the intelligent world to see? This glaring error should be corrected; it makes you/your organization look really stupid and uncaring. CJ
[end of what I submitted]

couldn't resist that last jab . . . c y'all soon..

(Now I'll attend to getting the extra HAHS list info posted here.)

Extra Wednesday 2/27 National Target List (HAHS)

PREFACE - crossposting from a recent ABR Daily Strategy Thread: please follow these guidelines when calling legislators on the HAHS lists as well; and with the Reps ask for the aide handling HR 503.

Please everyone, we need your help! When making your calls, ask to speak with the legislative aide who is handling S311. We are trying to get conversations going with the aides before heading to DC. Please try and collect any info on their objections to co sponsoring the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

Also, please do not post any conversations/info from the aides here. Please email myself or Shelley.

Thanks in advance. Debra, WI
www.campaigningforbarbaro.com

and now back to my usual spiel:

FIRST THINGS FIRST - Stress the importance of cosponsorship & getting S 311 / HR 503 to a vote.

Heads-Up - per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/ request: Ask the Senators who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Senator Mary Landrieu, sponsor and promoter of the Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts - to counteract the position of the 2 big vet ass'ns. Links to VEW's two 2007 antislaughter releases and their recently-released 2008 WHITE PAPER are in the DB Thread noted near the end of this Post.

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

800-828-0498

800-459-1887

800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR Strategy and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT/NEW Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists of Senators: (NOTE NEW SUGGESTION/CAVEAT FROM ABR STRATEGY, JUST BEFORE Prior HS History above the LIST OF LEGISLATORS below.)

1. Let [the legislators] know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently [since January], and the third (Cavel) has lost their appeal and [is now also closed]. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here is today's (Wednesday 2/27/08) extra National Target List from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S 311 (Senators) & HR 503 (Representatives); ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind. The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

Wednesday 2/27 Extra HAHS List

Prior HS History: Senators DeMint & Murray were cosponsors of S. 1915 and have not signed up yet for S. 311. Senators McCaskill and Klobuchar are new members of the Senate. (Also - Sen. DeMint and Sen. McCaskill both voted favorably on S 311 to get it out of [sub]Committee.)

Feb. 27 Cherokee Devotional [sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk]

"It is important to have a vision that is not clouded with fear," said a Cherokee leader. "As children we were able to see beyond the impossible by enjoying a vision of how we wanted things to be. It required unlimited joy, and life responded freely----until we grew up enough that everything had to be real." Sometimes the vision is truer than that which comes from it. A pattern to make anything can be accurate, and followed perfectly, can produce the perfect model of it. But bringing something forth is the problem. We have to have a steady hand and a mind that is willing to follow precisely. Few things are spelled out for us. We learn to focus on what we need, but still there is another step: Focus on fulfillment. See it completed. This is usually left out as we adopt a wait-and-see attitude, and this step is far too important to ignore.

Have a vision not clouded by fear.

The Cherokee

Got a lovely email today from Bradley, an aide to Senator Dole who sent her sincere thanks for the invitation and that she regrets not being able to attend the AAHS Receptionl; he invited further comments/questions. I emailed him back reminding that the invitation extends not only to the legislators but also TO THEIR STAFF and expressly invited him and co-workers to come; to respond by emailing julie. He replied again to thank me, and again asking is there anything more he can do; so I replied as follows:

Just encourage a staff meeting to precipitate a decision about Sen. Dole cosponsoring S 311! If you could do that, it's all I can ask. . . . Thanks again. CJ

PS - also pass on to her (and/or the staff person(s) handing the S 311 issue) these links, from an organization of veterinarians who disagree with the pro-slaughter position of several big vet associations: Their website is:

www.vetsforequinewelfare.org

That site includes links to VEW's two 2007 antislaughter releases and their recently-released 2008 WHITE PAPER. [furnished links to him; omitting links here so this will post]

THANKS AGAIN!

Greetings to everyone

I was so encouraged today when I was able to make an appointment for the Americans Against Horse Slaughter proponents to meet with my Congressman, Sam Johnson's top aid, Conner Ryan. The appointment is for March 4 @ 10:00. I have notified the proper person and filled out my sheet. After, months and months of calling, faxing and e-mailing this was my first response from anyone. And being from Texas this is a pretty indifferent (maybey I should say hard hearted or heard headed) group of politicians toward the wishes of the voting public, since the majority of the citizens of the U S are against slaughter.

We must get these breeders to start taking responsibility for what they are breeding. As when we started addressing the situation of puppy mills here in the U S. For some reason some think that it is their right to over saturate the market with the breeding of horses that have no where to go. Not even bothering themselves with the concept of what the future holds in store for these horses. How do we do this?
Love and prayers to all going to DC.

A proud forever FOB
LETS GET IT DONE!!!!!

JOE BACK ON DIALTONE: PHEW. nOW i CAN FEEL THE WORLD IS BACK IN BALANCE:
8888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
Wednesday, February 27th... This phone message came from Alex, and she lives in Arizona: Now that your website has been down for a few days, hopefully Joe this gives you time to reflect on the wishes of others. We do not want to read about thoroughbreds going to slaughter. My family and I enjoy when you write about how cool it is to live on a ranch.

This phone message came from Carly in Utah: I read you first thing Joe. Before I shower and before I e-mail my boyfriend to say good morning. But if you continue to write about horse killers and taking your friends to feed lots, I will no longer click on Tbfriends. I hope your phone lines are working soon.

This phone message (geez Joe, do you ever answer your phone?) came from Emmy, or it could be Amy, I had a hard time understanding: I am 10 and I read you everyday before going to school. My heart is filled with love for horses. Please do not put up pictures of horse killers on your website. It would make me sick to my stomach. Oh, and tell your phone company to get busy and fix your ring tone. (actually Emmy or Amy, my ring tone is just fine. It is our dial tone that was broken. But I knew what you meant)

This phone message came from Stacy in area code 818: I am sure you are aware of the consequences. To slander or to prohibit a person from earning a living will subject yourself to lawsuits. You might get away with showing photos of horse killers by not mentioning their names. In fact do not say a thing. Your readers will understand who they are. (well okay then)

Our telephone lines must have been installed 2 years before Columbus discovered America. The man from AT&T says all is in good working order. He replaced the thingamajig with a brand new whatchamacallit. Houses in our area now have dial tones. Which would be especially great if pizza joints delivered out here. We are back in business, and I will return tomorrow morning with more adventures of life with over 100 horses.

And please know, I appreciate all your requests and all your input. Your phone calls, even if we disagree, mean the world to me. At least someone is reading this stuff. And now I must return to the outside world and shovel more poop. It is maybe 65 degrees. Mud up to my giant nose. Another gelding comes to us from the race track later today. The kid from Utah, his name is David, was unbelievable on American Idol last night. The Kings lost to the worst team in the league, Miami. And gasoline could be up to $4.00 a gallon by April. Oh, and Jenny Hartman has her wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning. Ouch.

Joe

Top left is Downtown Daisy, and in Vallejo she was stabbed by a nut. Our vet Lisa Wallace put in over 400 stitches. Daisy is not available for adoption.

Top right is Devil Badgett on the day he came to us from the race track. You should see him now. All muddy and hairy.

Bottom left is AJ Jet, he made over 400 grand as a race horse, and he has lived with us for more than 10 years.

Bottom right is our cat with 3 legs Holiday, and Molly the dog. Holiday and Molly always sleep together.

Hay, Alex, what about this guy's luck

LONDON (Reuters) - A British man celebrated his 60th birthday in unexpected style at the weekend when a 50 pence ($1) bet on the horses turned him into an instant millionaire.

Fred Craggs, from Yorkshire in northern England, was not even aware of his win when he walked into a branch of the William Hill betting agency to see how he had done with his accumulator bet.

When he was informed of his good fortune he was said to have turned rather pale and muttered that he had better go home to tell his wife.

His coup was selecting eight winners running at various courses around the country -- starting with one called "Isn't That Lucky" and finishing with "A Dream Come True" -- at odds of 2,000,000 to one.

"This is the most amazing bet ever placed since betting shops were made legal in 1961," William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said on Monday

Hay Everybody,
Y'all remember the other morning I posted about reflecting? Well, I did some of that yesterday. I went outside at work to smoke (I know, I know! lol) and in front of my building one of the local news stations was conducting "man on the street" interviews. I listened in a bit and they were asking if anyone was going to watch the debate that night, what did you think of the candidates, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then, the reporter asks me if I want to be interviewed. So, in a split second, I reflected a bit and with a big smile said yes!

The good news? I slipped in a Thank You to Obama, Clinton and McCain for so-sponsoring S311 and wished more would sign-on.

The better news? They showed a bit of my interview.

The bad news (and you knew there was some, didn't you?)? The 2 seconds they showed of me were NOT!! the S311 bit.

Oh well, I tried. But somewhere there's a little more tape supporting the Horses.

Oh, by the way, my office is located on Pennsylvania Ave. about mid-way between Congress and the White House. Maybe next time eh?

NO Horse left behind or Ever Forgotten!

To all:

I have been trying to come up with the right words for this for a couple of days. I still don't think I have it right, but...

To those who are going to Washington...wow. Good for you! I am so proud of you! I wonder, of the 74, how many knew of slaughter, or laminitis, or track surfaces before Barbaro? Not all, I would bet. Who would have thought that a group of strangers spread all over the world would come together like this, for the love of a horse that most never met? How cool is all this?
And for the ones not going, and the silent ones, your contributions to all this are vast also. EVERY FOB will be in Washington next week, some in body, more in spirit. I am so proud of ALL of you, and so proud to be a small part of the house that Barbaro built.
Safe journey to all that are traveling.

Now, having hopefully said that right, look you DC bound FOBs! We want details!!! Who, what, when and where! And pictures. We want labeled pictures. Please put faces on the names of our FOB frens! Know that we are home supporting you 100%. Go get 'em...for Barbaro, and Jonna's white mare, and all the ones we didn't know.

Yole have a wonderful, ELECTRIFYING time and make these people SEE what we are talking about. I too wish there was a way to strap them all into their big velvet chairs in Congress and MAKE THEM WATCH the TAPES. Especially the WHITE MARE tape from Mexico.

Then let them tell you why slaughter is such a damned good idea, and how it is so HUMANE>

AND I STILL WANT POSTERS!!!!

STRATEGY FOR THURSDAY FEBRUARY 8

Marg - I've never done anything like this before either. But, I too felt compelled - don't know why but just knew that I had to go.

Kathy - I appreciate your kind thoughts. I've been involved with anti-slaughter for several years - before Barbaro. We would do the petitions and emails but nothing even close to the organized efforts of the FOBs.

Bless you FOBs - you're the greatest!!

for the fans of barbaro

on the soon eve of many hearts
collecting under the congressional marbled roofs
and hallways that have
carried many a promise,
hidden some lies and shorn actions to a truth
WE HAVE THE RIGHT
to participate

that we must always try
to speak
for those along
with ourselves,
'that can not speak for themselves
with dignity nare a cross word
anger shelved to our private domains

for those who have criticized our passion and our love
may we show them the true force of our love
and our beliefs in what is right
that untold suffering must end
on our land
the beauty of the peace
of running horses manes flying
in the wind
free
going to washington dc
i will take al of you with me ..

the panorama of our history
with alex and racing and Barbaro
forum .
spill out before my eyes and tumble through
'the span
of rescues and raising funds and tears shared
for months upon months
..
there is skill and intelligence
and years of devotion that many on the board have done
to end this terrible nightmare
and the two standard themes of the opposition
based deep in their fear
of loosing their incomes beyond

the stillness tonight
stars like placed into black sky
of a couple deep
in the cold of minnesota
who know their hearts
and what to do
to help their charge windchill
story upon story
..confirms in my mind
the legacy of the champion
a pantheon tht brought us together ..
STILL HERE
we got to see and feel
as he battLED
it all
in utter grace and resolve

join me over the next span of days
in prayer and resolve
hope for the gold
we can share
in telling the world of his and our
grace and care

of our love for the lives of every horse on and in
this land

in the hope
valley of joy and affirmed

Famblee...I am so sad:( Does anyone here remember the little Buckskin colt, 'Bucky'....they were raising dollars for him to have surgery on his leg...remember that sweet little boy? I just read a post on Equine Heaven that he died today, Famblee....It is very late here in the West Wing, I'm sure yole are sleeping...I am SO sad about Bucky....I SO hoped he would live..he was SO CUTE...I am sure Barbaro met him at the Bridge and he will know no more pain or any kind of discomfort, but DANG I sure wish he would have made it to an 'old man' horsey!!
