Barbaro Updates: 502

updates are now here.

Update 3056: Gem Sleuth, a horse I galloped for Eddie Kenneally at Keeneland and Churchill, won this afternoon at Gulfstream. Very cool. Its always good to know that horses you have ridden have not been ruined by the experience :) Penn National, my first stop on my racetrack travels, is currently closed as it gets ready to launch its racino. Its plans are to reopen on February 12: Penn on Schedule for Feb. 12 Opener.

I just finished reading Water for Elephants. A very good book, with an author who appears to be passionate about many of the same issues we are facing: Sara Gruen.

Update 3055: Its official, Curlin is being pointed for the Dubai World Cup: Curlin Going to Dubai World Cup.

Update 3054: A couple of tidbits from equidaily. There was a Derby yesterday, and it was in India: Hotstepper is the champion. While Santa Anita continues to struggle with its Synthetic Surface, Golden Gate Fields has had a much better experience with its Tapeta Footings: GGF track weathers winter.

A day off today, which will give me a chance to work on some of the logistics involved in the March 4 - 5 Washington DC events.

Please keep calling and writing, and consider coming to DC March 4 and 5.

Morning after Giant Super Bowl skritches to the BBH, Sir JH, Gorgeous George and the rest of the superior gang in Equine Heaven.

As for down below:

REPOST SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI

STRATEGY FOR MONDAY FEBRUARY 4
The recent victory in South Dakota proves that all Americans can make a difference. Not just the money people or lobbyists but the caring compassionate people sitting with their computers, fax machines and telephones. However, there will always be another South Dakota and horse slaughter plants trying to rear their ugly heads in this country again. We MUST get the federal legislation passed to make sure that never happens and to protect our horses from the inhumane transportation to a brutal death in other countries.
In the past few weeks, newspapers have been full of news about the impact of the closure of the U.S. horse slaughterhouses last year. They are saying that abandonment, abuse, and horses found left on the roadside has increased. They have even been asserting ridiculously that there are now thousands of unwanted horses roaming around the country. They then warn that passing legislation to ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter will have even more dire consequences for our poor horses than what we are seeing now. YOU MUST SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT. Make sure that your Senators don’t fall for this propoganda.
Please contact your Senators and Representatives and let them know how important it is to move quickly on this legislation. Let our co-sponsors know that we appreciate their support but we need more…..we need action. Let those still sitting on the fence know how close we came to once again knowing the horrors of horse slaughter on Amercian soil.
After calling your Senators and Representatives to let them know how important this issue is, please contact Leadership about getting this to the floor for a vote.
LIST WITH LEADERSHIP OFFICE TELEPHONE NUMBERS
Senate Majority Leader: Harry Reid ph: 202-224-2158 fax: 202-224-7327
Senate Minority Leader: Mitch McConnell ph: 202-224-3135 fax: 202-226-1374
Senate President Pro Tempore: Robert C. Byrd ph: 202-224-3954 fax: 202-228-0002

Assistant Minority Leader: Jon Kyl ph: 202-224-4521 fax: 202-228-0034
Most of you already know that there is an exciting event coming up in DC on March 4 and 5th. Please click on the thread “Invitation from Paula Bacon” under the anti slaughter section of the DB or on top of the comment section. We need the FOB’s to come out in force to support this event. If you are coming, please make sure you contact Julie so you can be included in the count.
Remember….WE ARE BARBARO’SVOICE…….let it be heard!!!
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.

Daryl will be in DC Feb, 6th

I'm returning to Washington DC for more meetings and lobbying for S. 311 and H.R. 503. My previous meetings have provided great insight as to what needs to be done, what needs to be presented to individual Senate and House offices. Each meeting presents exactly where that lawmaker is in the process of his/her decision making. If your senator or house rep is not yet a co-sponsor and you would like me to meet with his/her staff here's the formula:

1. Contact me via my e-mail shanamrdiv@yahoo.com

2. Then we will contact your senator/rep office.

3. After each meeting I forward you the results and we strategize based on the information that emerges from the meeting.

3. These meetings are valuable also in that they produce proper contacts and allow us to cultivate relationships. And relationships sell!

These are the dates I will be available for meetings: February 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13.

HOW TO MAKE CALLS TO LEGISLATORS!

If you are new to the site or just new to antislaughter here is some information that will help you get started with our goal of stopping horse slaughter in the United States and the transport across our borders for that purpose.

FOB'S we need help so ANY call you make WILL help whether it is 1 or 10 please at least make that 1 call for the horses sake.

If you need help please ask we all started some where. No question is stupid LOL believe me I should know:) I thank you but most importantly the horses thank you!

First let me tell you that I was scared you know what when I started making calls!!! The reason being is I had never made a single phone call to a legislator's office in my life! I had no clue about the process of how bills became law and frankly didn't have any desire to learn. But then came the horses... Everything changed at that point and I knew I had to get involved on this one no doubt about it. After talking with many of my family and friends I started to realize that all of the people I was calling were actually paid to help me! Wow what a different perspective I soon had once I realized they were providing a service to me. Most everyone you will hear on the other end of the line when you call is hired specifically to take calls and make record of your call. As time went on it got easier and easier talking to these folks, knowing they were actually there to help me:) Yes every so often you get the person that forgot to eat their Wheaties but for the most part they are pretty nice.

So at first I would simply call and say " my name is _______ and I am calling to ask Senator _____ or Rep _____ to cosponsor and vote yes for S 311 (Senator) or HR 503 (Representative) the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act". They would say thank you for calling and I will pass your information on to the Senator or Rep and that was it!!! Mission accomplished!

Now you have the basics and I hope it will help! I now consider myself a conversation piece because I offer a whole lot more to the person on the other end of the phone. One thing for certain is you don't have to be scared of talking to these people they are there to take your calls.

If anyone needs help with what to say or what to write just send me an email mortgagematte@earthlink.net and I will be happy to offer any information that I have available. Please. when you send your email tell me your user name on ABR so I can identify you through the site, then I will be more than happy to send you any information you need to get the ball rolling!

Also for those of you that may be worried that I am letting too much out of the bag and the proslaughter groups will steal our information, please know that it is available to anyone that has access to the internet and Google! You may also want to visit www.hsus.org or www.sapl.org for the same type information!!!

This is from Steph, now lets make some calls!

I am not one to usually get swept up in governmental conspiracy theories - but these FACTS and QUESTIONS are hard to deny/explain...

WATCH this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E3oIbO0AWE

SCARY, but everybody needs to see it...

Here's the info that goes with it:

Elements within our U.S. Gov't deliberately allowed Sept 11th to happen:
Hijacked airliners flew all around the eastern U.S. for hours without any military response??? How could Osama bin-Forgotten make our air force stand down, or did Cheney do that???
The Pentagon was struck by a "hijacked" airliner 45 minutes after two other "hijacked" airliners struck the WTC, without the airliner being intercepted, approached, chased, or even seen by our air defenses?
The Gov't still refuses to release clear video of whatever happened at the Pentagon to this day, six years later??? Why???
The massive WTC-7 building was 350 feet from the nearest tower, was not hit by a plane, yet it imploded in a controlled demolition at 5:20 pm??? It housed many gov't offices, & the over-insured owner said the building was "pulled." Why???
The Bush/Cheney regime is using 9/11 as a pretext to brazenly subvert our U.S. Constitution, launch illegal invasions of Afghanistan, Iraq, (Iran?), & grant themselves dictatorial powers here at home! They have committed high treason & must be impeached & imprisoned while we still have the Bill of Rights!

I urge everyone to watch "Loose Change" free on the web for proof that 9/11 was a "false-flag" attack! Also Google terms like "911 truth" & visit www.911truth.org www.911blogger.com www.ae911truth.org & www.truthnews.us & other patriotic, resistance sites!

Thank you Judy,
I found this song and it makes me smile to think of Sassy getting her first "wings":

Martina Mcbride - She's A Butterfly

She remembers when she first got her wings
And how she opened up the day she learned to sing
Then the colors came, erased the black and white
And her whole world changed when she realized

She's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly

Like the purest light in a darkened world
So much hope inside such a lovely girl
You should see her fly, it's almost magical
It makes you wanna cry, she's so beautiful

She's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly

God bless the butterfly
Give her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground
God bless the butterfly
Give her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground

Oh, she's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothin's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly
She's a butterfly
She's a butterfly

Dreary also in upstate NY, BUT somewhat warmer, and I'll take that.

I called the Big Five to being this morning and the Leetle Aides that I spoke with --4 of the 5 HAD NOT heard about the war we fought and won in South Dakota...

Now, this surprises me, and kinda means we need to be hitting harder. Especially with Daryl in town...

So go, FOBs, go.

(Btw: my fave SU perBowl commercial (caught it on line this morning) was the auto company's spot with the hapless guy in the front seat with the adorable mother badger and her 4 young suckling away. Howitzers don't bother her (because the car interior is so soundproof...) but the guy's cell wakers her up and the next to last shot is the
hapless guy & badger face to face, him screaming and the mom badger screaming, and about to rip his lips off. Pretty funny.)

So go forth, call, call call....

Good Morning Famblee

I'M HERE AND I'M CALLING.

I took a couple vacation day Thursday & Friday and spent them at MHR. Steph & Rob are dealing with a family crisis and I wanted to help as best as I can. Cloud & I spent some quality time. I love that boy so, and I rode him for awhile.
The Big Boned Gals are really making progress. Joseph, Steph's son, was able to very carefully change Nellies halter and she took treats from our hands. Apple is totally into the attention now. In fact she seeks it out. I saw pictures on the MHR blog of her following Joseph in the round pen. Jerri is still resisting the love but I think they are getting close to changing her halter as well. It's a symbolic thing. Kinda like removing the old and in with the new life. These horses were only numbers before and those number tags are on the old halters.

Jackie....I'm way behind here and don't know what's going on with Sassy but my thoughts and prayers are with her.

STAY VIGILENT FAMBLEE. Daryl is going to Washington for us and our horses. Let's make thoses calls so that when he is in his meetings they have plenty of calls to back him up.

Eli Manning
Gives me Hope

With the Burdon of Proof
Upon his young shoulders
A lifetime of pressure
Living with a family legacy
A football family
To live up to
This was not a just a game
To win
For the Title
But the game
To Prove
He was no longer
The kid brother
He walked onto
The field a brother and a son
And walked off
His own man
Eli Manning
Gives me Hope
Yes
Sometimes
Lightning
Does
Strike
Twice

I believe I will be stuck in these mountains til Wednesday or so. 2 feet of snow since yesterday, and it is still coming down. Maybe it will stop tomorrow. Nancy, thank you for blue-linking Sassy's candle site! I have lit for both Sassy and Barbaro today.

##Cathy, Sassy is a little mixed-breed dog who was neglected and abused for much of her life. Her mental problems stemming from that abuse have made her life very difficult. I tried to help her get into rescue- I thought we might be able to make it- but in the end it did not happen as I had hoped and her current connections have chosen to end her suffering. Her connections wanted to have it done as soon as possible- there is a strong possibility that she passed on Sunday, but they may also have chosen to wait until today.
I am thankful for all of the love the FOBS have shown during this difficult time...

Posted by: JackieTundra at February 4, 2008 4:24 PM

## Jackie, I was too precipitate in saying I couldn't get on your candle site, Nancy's link worked fine for me so I got there at last! :>)

Made all my calls. Tried to talk about SD, but with
McConnell and Kyl- I asked those two, the minority leader, and the asst. minority leader to please, in their leader-roles capacity, urge Sen. Craig to drop his hold on S311 and let all the peoples' Senators
have a chance to vote.

See you good folks later, bye.

Hi everyone

It's a bit cold here today, but all is pretty much OK in the horse racing world according to an article I read today:

Horse Racing booming despite prize cuts

One thing I hadn't really appreciated is that all jockeys are paid the same flat rate. Very egalitarian. Is it the same in the US and the rest of the world?

Thank you all for your love and caring,
Sassy has passed away. She went early on Sunday with all the love of the FOBS. Thank you so much for comforting her. I received a feeling last night and this morning telling me that she was gone, but I needed to know for sure.

When I saw her kennel filled with someone else I felt sadness, but relief as well. It is over- she is free. I wish that I could have kept her here and I selfishly wish that she was still with us- my first thought was, why didn't I do more? Why did I let her go? I don't often accept how much of a gift passing can be. I always feel like they should stay forever on this earth, as if life is the only blessing. There are other blessings. I'm still learning.

No more kennels for her. No more waiting, no more fear. Always Love.

Thank you Judy,
I save all of the candle messages and read them again and again, they are helpful- it's good to know how many people have supported and "walked with her" when I couldn't be there. I know that she was never alone, even at the hardest of times.
I saved some pics and video files of her, I watch them and they help- she was so full of cheer, even in her situation she could find happiness. I love her :)

FOR ALL WHO WERE GENEROUS ENOUGH TO DONATE TO THE "HONORING BARBARO'S LIFE AND LEGACY" TRIBUTE ~
Today I received this lovely message from Mrs. Jackson, on a postcard with my favorite KD pic of Barbaro - all four hooves off the ground!

Dear Nancy and F.O.B.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers and the extraordinarily generous gift to the Laminitis Fund. You all are loyal, dear, loving friends of all that is best and what was best in Barbaro. We all must try hard to continue to forget all the small stuff in life and just deal with the good which Barbaro taught me - us.

G Story.

Women make treats for horses

05:15 PM CST on Saturday, February 2, 2008
McClatchy Newspapers

LIVERMORE, Calif. – Anney Daugherty of Livermore, Calif., didn't like the treats she saw at horse feed stores. She noticed they had lots of carbohydrates, starches and sugars.

Daugherty, a horse breeder, wanted a healthier treat for her horses, as did a friend of hers, Sandi Jeffers of Livermore. Eventually, they came up with the Flying Horse Bakery, which opened earlier this year.

Daugherty said she's done a lot of research on nutrition for horses and for the past few years she's experimented with ingredients to make nutritious treats that horses will like.

"I want to give them something I can feel good about giving," Daugherty said.

Once she and Jeffers found that their horses, as well as other people's horses, liked the treats, they decided to market them.

They bake five days a week. The treats are muffins and cookies made with such natural ingredients as sunflower seeds, honey, barley, oat bran, golden flax, dehydrated apples, rice bran, grapeseed oil, almond meal, vanilla and peppermint. No sugar is added.

Several horses taste test the muffins and cookies.

"Different horses have different palates, just like people," Daugherty said, adding that even picky horses liked some of the treats.

The treats are different from those that can be found in feed stores because they are softer and can be pulled apart, they can be fed to horses daily and they have a nutritional balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, Daugherty said.

Some of the treats on store shelves have gummy bears or other candies in them, they are harder, and they are bigger, she added.

"A lot of horses are overweight," she said.

Currently, the products are available only online, but they hope to put them in retail soon. They have shipped them to horse owners across the country.

"You can use them for training," Daugherty said. "It's a good positive reinforcement."

JOE: TBD TOMORROW:
***************************************************
It is Monday. Saturday night we had another wicked storm, and once again our phone line was lost. AT&T has been here all morning, and now we have a dial tone. Winds are strong, so there is no guarantee our computer will stay on for long. What a winter.

Please do not call 911 and beg for your heart to be restarted, but there are new photos under the age links. Under the Retirement link I will all the time be posting pictures of everyday events on our ranch. And trust me, we are full of events. Floods and fires and toads bigger than a pony. Mud up to your neck. More horses are awaiting transportation to our ranch. In the meantime we are granted senior citizen discounts at Dennys. It is a little dishearting when they never ask for I.D.

Living with 111 horses, and no 2 are the same. We have a gelding here who earned almost two million dollars at the race track. We have a gelding with a shattered leg. 3 freshly broken knees. Broken ankles and fractured cannon bones.

I am addicted to thoroughbreds. No interventions please. It is the way they fight through their troubles. I moan and groan to anyone who will listen. My broken toes, my broken back, my poor eyesight. You think I would learn from thoroughbreds. They never complain. Heads held high, proud as can be.

I will be back tomorrow morning to share with you more adventures of a winter gone crazy. Gotta go back outside and do chores. Enjoy the rest of your day. Always remember to hug your horses.

CJ: what about getting a friend to talk to their vet about coming over to put your beautiful little Pearl down...Your Vet: Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. If someone has a long history with a practice they'll do this as a favor for a long-time client's pal. I know how you are feeling....

Sending my prayers that all Pearl will do or feel till you can get a Vet on the job is sleep and dream about the wonderful life the two have had. Don't make yourself crazy about "waiting one day too long," I'll bet we've all done that at least once...

It'll be OK. This playing God stuff is tough. My thoughts are with you on your gig tonight. Can Pearl have a "babysitter" tonight? That might ease your mind a bit, huh?

Love you guys: jonna

Do not worry about waiting "too long"- the "perfect time" is such a fine line. What is important is that you recognise her pain and will relieve her of it because you lvoe her. Give Pearl much love and it will be all right.

extra Monday 2/4 national target list (HAHS)

HAHS list FINALLY up at their site -

FIRST THINGS FIRST - Stress the importance of getting S 311 / HR 503 to a vote.

Be sure to tell all your contacts about what almost happened in South Dakota - and spread that VEW white paper far and wide [LINK in DB thread noted at the bottom of this message].

Tell these legislators (in addition to your own) about the SD development. REASON TO SUPPORT/ COSPONSOR/EXPEDITE S 311 / HR 503.

PREFACE/Heads-Up - per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/ request: Ask the Senators who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Senator Mary Landrieu, sponsor and promoter of the Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts - to counteract the position of the 2 big vet ass'ns. Links to their two 2007 antislaughter releases and their recently-released WHITE PAPER (2008) are linked in the DB thread noted below.

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

800-828-0498

800-459-1887

800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR Strategy and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT/NEW Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists of Senators: (NOTE SUGGESTION/CAVEAT FROM ABR STRATEGY, JUST BEFORE Prior HS History above the LIST OF SENATORS below.)

1. Let [the legislators] know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently [since January], and the third (Cavel) has lost their appeal and [is now also closed]. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here is today's (Monday 2/4/08) extra National Target List from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S311 (Senators) & HR 503 (Representatives); ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind. The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

Prior HS History: all these Senators cosponsored S 1915 in the 109th Congress. And Sen. DeMint voted S 311 favorably out of Committee in the 110th.

Monday 2/4 list - Senators (be sure to mention S 311)

Jackie:
You gave that little Sassy a preview of life on earth. It is SO hard to have to put down what is in all other ways, a normal, younger healthy animal.

I went through this with one of our foster hounds....he was a disaster emotionally, very violent with cats, younger dogs--nearly killed one of my hounds. I finally had to decide to send him back to God. There was nowhere on the Earth, I realized, that this dog would be safe...

We didn't necropsy him, but our Vets felt sure there was a brain lesion, tumor...something to make him so off the gh typical and otherwise sweet and clingy...

That was an awful time. But you will come to understand, in time, that there was nothing that you could have done for Sassy, and that you gave her was a wonderful, freeing gift...she'll be waiting for you, all better--in heaven. Have no doubt.

Remembering Foggy on his birthday, never forget his owner Harry Aleo cheering like a proud dad, around a TV at Gulfstream when he won the Swale. And his final race at Calder when he got a standing ovation while carrying all that cancer and still running his heart out. You are missed and never forgotten Foggy.

STRATEGY FOR TUESDAY FEBRUARY 5

Most of you already know that there is an exciting event coming up in DC on March 4 and 5th. Please click on the thread “Invitation from Paula Bacon” under the anti slaughter section of the DB or on top of the comment section. We need the FOB’s to come out in force to support this event. If you are coming, please make sure you contact Julie so you can be included in the count.

Daryl

He has an appointment to see my Alabama Senator Sessions. Pray for Daryl to change the minds in DC!

Wonder what they're doing with the faxes we send. I sent the AP article about South Dakota to all of the Big Five. Of the five, Senator McConnell's aide is the only one I know the name of so I didn't fax it to the aides' attention. Do you remember which aide had heard about it? Shirl

Jonna writes-
I called the Big Five to being this morning and the Leetle Aides that I spoke with --4 of the 5 HAD NOT heard about the war we fought and won in South Dakota...

Great Job Barb!!! You go girl!

Posted by: Debra, WI at February 5, 2008 12:32 AM

Actually,
great job to all of you on the anti slaughter front! If we want change, we must fight for it! You're all doing just that.

Keep up the great work!

Oh CJ ###
I am so sorry about Pearl, and sorry you must go through this. At least you are with her to help her complete this last phase of her life. Talk to her
of love and comfort. I know you have a phrase you always say , you've told me before, but my sieve brain can't recall it now.

You thank them for being in their life, is that it?
Well I thank you for being the wonderful FOB that you are, and you know that we are all with you. I know you must go to your music tonight but we will see you later. Please take care of yourself and Pearl. Much love and best wishes.

Wonder what they're doing with the faxes we send?

The aides come and go, and the aides that are handling HR 503 names have changed here in Alabama. Wallener the aide in Sessions’s office S 311 use to work for Rep Aderholt HR 503. Don't feel the faxes are going to the right hands, and are not being passed along to the new aides. If they have a folder for S311 it would not fit in a file cabinet. So where are the faxes being kept, will call James Wallener in the morning and ask him.
And he is taking calls on S 311 and he don’t know how Sessions stands on the legislation. Ask do you talk to the senator, yes he said. But he did know Aderholt cosponsored last year. GO Figure.
Fighting mad in Alabama.

If your living in Alabama, we could use some help!

Hiya, FsOB! I am so grateful to Jonna for posting Joe Shelton's blog from today. I've been worried about all the good people and critters at TB Friends.
And how great to see Nancy in CT's update from Mrs. Jackson, in follow-up to last week's tribute from the FsOB. Ms. Jackson is truly embodies the 'old school' meaning of the term "a lady". She is incredibly gracious and thoughtful. Barbaro couldn't have had a more wonderful "human Mum", in my opinion.
I got a sweet note from my Aunt Lucie this weekend, with the clipping from Louisville's Courier Journal, announcing that Barbaro's memorial would be at Churchill Downs. Lucie also wrote that she contacted Sen. McConnell's office as I had asked my family to do in my holiday cards in Dec. Lucie received a letter back from his office; I think she seemed surprised to get a response. Wishing each of you ACN. Peace, RMH

#### To CJ: My sympathies to you as you face Pearl's passing.
To Jackie Tundra, my sympathies to you as well.
To Nancy in CT: If I were you, I'd frame Mrs. Jackson's note!
To Cathy Potter: I am vastly relieved that "Echo" in the Pedigree ad was adopted. I can't wait to go upstairs and tell Brent. We were watching TV earlier tonight while I was exercising and we saw the ad with Echo in it. I said, "Oh, no!" and got teary and Brent looked sad, too. What a sweet dog. I wish I could care for every dog and horse who needs a safe, caring home.... ####

D+EBBIE L.A. mail, you say? oh yeah? I do not see that dang thang......

Posted by: jonna at February 5, 2008 1:37 AM

Debbie LA,

send your fax to the attention of the COS and CC the aide. Demand (professionally..:) as a constituent, that they follow up with you and that you would like a response. Let them know that many constituents are feeling that their calls/faxes are not getting the attention/response they deserve. Hopefully this will get the Aide to pay more attention and start organizing a file...lol.

It doesn't hurt to send the COS an email as well.

Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

Daryl just called, he is in DC and has 12 appointments set up. He is going to see Senator Sessions for me. Sending him so info!
Good luck Daryl, pray for him FOB's!

Thank you, everyone, for supporting Sassy and myself during the difficult weekend and now into Monday. I am glad that she has been freed from her fears, her confinement and her pain. It takes some getting used to, having her physically departed. She is a sweetheart and so are you! I'm sure she is grateful of the love you give to her... Please keep her in your prayers as she experiences the end of her first fill day in Heaven. Her candles link is below (blue link challenged)
http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=Sassy

This is the song I picture for Sassy, flying with her new "wings" in hevvin
Martina Mcbride - She's A Butterfly

She remembers when she first got her wings
And how she opened up the day she learned to sing
Then the colors came, erased the black and white
And her whole world changed when she realized

She's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly

Like the purest light in a darkened world
So much hope inside such a lovely girl
You should see her fly, it's almost magical
It makes you wanna cry, she's so beautiful

She's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly

God bless the butterfly
Give her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground
God bless the butterfly
Give her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground

Oh, she's a butterfly, pretty as the crimson sky
Nothin's ever gonna bring her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows she's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly
She's a butterfly
She's a butterfly

Love to all you FOBS. especially to CJ and Pearl. Know that we are all with you and hold pearl in our hearts. Soon she and Sassy will stretch their wings together...

Debra thanks I will, Demand (professionally. as a constituent, that they follow up with me and that I would like a response. Getting sick of being nice.
Rep Bonner has changed aides 3 times this year!
But he is sooooo pro slaughter. Just email Daryl one of his letters. Feel as if I have through Daryl in to the lion’s den. Pray for him!
Alabama has no co-sponsor, we had 3 in 2006. Why?

Posted by: Debbie L.A. at February 5, 2008 2:20 AM

Goodnight, all- goodnight CJ and Pearl and all of the wonderful FOBs. I will be at work and won't have online access most of the day but will be thinking of you always!
CJ, know that it will be all right. We are with you! Hold Pearl close for us, I'll tell my angels Angel (yes, that is her name!) and Sassy and everyone else, human and furbaby, to keep close to you and to Pearl.

FOBS! We got another one! A pregnant mare on a feedlot in CA. Up to her knees in the mud they have from all the rain. The thread is on the DB.

Thank you Saving Horses, Inc. and Audrey & Co....
we all look forward to hearing about the next path this little mama takes...

And FOBS: another fast save. Damn we're good...donations of all sizes and shapes: it all meant that the mare and her little hitchhiker will be clean and HOME tomorrow night at this time....

What a great thing to go to sleep upon. As someone said, in memory of Lost in the Fog...

CJ
Praying that Pearl will be sleeping soundly when you get home...or who knows, perhaps she will have flown off on the back of a celestial White Mare.
Whatever it is, I pray for you that it is a journey as painless as possible for you both.

Yes, Jonna and all:) WE ARE GOOOOOOOD!!! I'm happy for the pregnant mare...I was unable to 'help' with this one....but am ever grateful she has been saved!

I just came from gazing at that beauuuuuutiful picture of 'my' *CHARLIE*:) He just tickles me to death!!! I'm awfull excited for Spring to get here so I can go visit him...I wanna feed him 'carits' and kiss his horsey nose and just LOOK at him and TOUCH him:)

CJ...I've been reading about your Pearl...I'm so very sorry, CJ...((((((((((cj/pearl))))))))))))
Gosh, it's SO HARD when we have to let them GO:(

Alex: You 'silly' mannnnn!!! I hardly think any horse you ride would be 'ruined from the experience'!!! You on the other hand...well you've been stepped on...and didn't you fall off once not so long ago...or maybe it's been awhile..time flies..at any rate, I'm pretty sure 'your' horses are all just 'dine&fandy' from carrying you around those racetracks and up and down the hills at Fair Hill!!! :)

Everyone, sleep well....have sweetest dreams...see yole tomorrow!!
