    Barbaro Updates: 500

    updates are now here.

Update 3046: Russell Baze won the third race this afternoon at Golden Gate Fields to eclipse 10,000 winners: Baze first North American jockey to reach 10,000 wins.

Update 3045: Russell Baze, Lost in the Fog's jockey, and the winningest jockey in North America, is only one win shy of 10,000. He has five scheduled mounts this afternoon: Baze One Short of Milestone.

Update 3044: A chilly start (35 degrees) to a beautiful day, which is warming up to about 60 degrees. We had nine sets, six before the break and three after the break. The last two sets were 2yos, and its fun to ride them in bunches. We have eight going in three, three and two, all close together. Lots of banter going back and forth among the riders, and all the 2yos going very nicely. All in all a pleasant start to the day for sure.

Update 3043: The Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, is urging adoption of a nationwide model rule to eliminate Anabolic Steroids, but then end of 2008: RMTC: Regulate Steroids Uniformly.

The first major Grade 1 for older horses is being run tomorrow, the Donn Handicap. This race also serves as a prep for the Dubai World Cup, Invasor won both last year. His trainer, Kieran McLaughlin, has Daaher in this year's edition: Daaher Heads Donn with Eye on Dubai.

Please keep calling, and consider coming to DC March 4 and 5.

Morning skritches to the BBH, Sir JH, Gorgeous George and the rest of the fabulous gang in Equine Heaven.

    Meanwhile, down below:

    MORNING POST, SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI

    STRATEGY FOR FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1

The defeat of the bill in South Dakota has renewed us and energized us once again. Make no mistake…..YOU are responsible for the victory in South Dakota. It has once again proven that all Americans can make a difference. Not just the money people or lobbyists but the caring compassionate people sitting with their computers, fax machines and telephones.

It also proves the power of a house united. Many people that haven’t been around in a while have returned and joined in this mission. We need you to stay! There were times that many have gotten disheartened and thought “why bother, we’re not making a difference”. Tuesday told you differently!! By sheer numbers and determination we have defeated horse slaughter in an agricultural state like South Dakota. That is no simple task and not one to take lightly.

However, there will always be another South Dakota and horse slaughter plants trying to rear their ugly heads in this country again. We MUST get the federal legislation passed to make sure that never happens. We MUST get the federal legislation passed to protect our horses from the inhumane transportation to a brutal death in other countries.

Please end this week spreading the word about what happened in South Dakota and let them know how we dodged a bullet this time! Contact your Senators and Representatives and let them know how important it is to move quickly on this legislation. Let our co-sponsors know that we appreciate their support but we need more…..we need action. Let those still sitting on the fence know how close we came to once again knowing the horrors of horse slaughter on American soil. Let them know that the Senator in South Dakota said “We can now corner the market on horse slaughter”. Let them know the core values of the American public will not tolerate that attitude toward these majestic animals that are icons of our country.

So, while we celebrate, let us not become complacent but rather more determined than ever to get this done once and for all! And when those who do not believe say that we can’t make a difference, stand tall and say loudly YES WE CAN!!!

We made a promise to fulfill the job that Barbaro started. We must keep that promise! Let us move forward with passion to keep his legacy alive.

We are BARBARO’S VOICE……let it be heard!!

Thanks for everything you do and have a great weekend.

    Shelley and Debra

    Cheers,
    Friar Tuck

Daryl will be in DC Feb,

I'm returning to Washington DC for more meetings and lobbying for S. 311 and H.R. 503. My previous meetings have provided great insight as to what needs to be done, what needs to be presented to individual Senate and House offices. Each meeting presents exactly where that lawmaker is in the process of his/her decision making. If your senator or house rep is not yet a co-sponsor and you would like me to meet with his/her staff here's the formula:

    1. Contact me via my e-mail shanamrdiv@yahoo.com

    2. Then we will contact your senator/rep office.

    3. After each meeting I forward you the results and we strategize based on the information that emerges from the meeting.

    3. These meetings are valuable also in that they produce proper contacts and allow us to cultivate relationships. And relationships sell!

    These are the dates I will be available for meetings: February 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13.

    Daryl

He is going to talk to James Wallener Senator Sessions aide for Alabama.
    Thank you Daryl

    **************************************************
    Friday, February 1st...
Silenced for a week (the crowd roars) by rain and wind, with another big storm coming tomorrow. There were gobs of concerned phone messages, including this from Lindsey in Ohio: Hey Joe, you keep writing about how old you are, but there is still time to join the 21st century. You can get high speed satelite internet. That way those of us who cannot have a thoroughbred can still read about thoroughbreds. You would never have to miss a day of writing to us.

And this message from Emma in Minnesota: Are your telephone lines really down, or are you in Las Vegas with Brian Gill eating scallops in a rich cream sauce with aspargus tips soaked in truffle oil?

Um, our telephone lines are really down. But thanks for the option. Just as soon as I get this mud off...

111 horses on our ranch, and each one needs a bath. Hallmark will not be making a calendar with pictures of our horses. The rain came sideways last night, and feeding supper was soon impossible. Mud up to my giant nose. There are horses waiting to come live with us. The No Vacancy sign is lit, so feeding at other places is a must. I have fallen in love with Sissy, a little thoroughbred mare who I feed everyday in a place called Knights Landing. Sissy is personality plus, and she needs a dry stall because of foot abscesses. Also there is Miners Mark, a beautiful thoroughbred gelding and you can count his ribs. Just as soon as the mud goes away Miners Mark will join our fun.

Bringing you up to date... There is a horse auction this Sunday in the town of Turlock. Another horse auction a week from Sunday in the town of Roseville. Horse killer Manny Phelps has moved his feed lot from Elk Grove to Wilton. Horse killer Paddy Smith (Smith is a fake name) has opened a feed lot not far from Thunder Valley Casino. Horse killer Wade Giles is operating out of Stockton, and he keeps his doomed horses on a ranch near Lodi. And horse killer Brent Sanchez and his girl friend Maggie are housing their doomed horses on a ranch in West Sacramento. Brent and Maggie sell their horses for 60 cents a pound. The going rate is 40 cents a pound. Maggie once worked at the race track in Pleasanton, and she has access to disposable thoroughbreds.

Since horse slaughter was stopped in America, the number of neglected and starving horses have continued to rise. The sadness becomes taxing. Day after day of horror stories.

And already (in January) horse killers are selling mares and brand new foals. Horse killer Manny Phelps had a beautiful thoroughbred mare with her tiny filly baby, and on the phone he tells me the mare came from a ranch in Vacaville. The foal was delivered in mud. There are 4 different phone numbers I call when begging for help. Jodi in Dixon, Megan in Fairfield, Allison in Auburn, and Julia in Lincoln. I know for sure none of those 4 will ever tell me no. The mare with her tiny filly baby is now living with Julia in Lincoln, and a big Thank You to Stephanie Diaz for providing the transportation.

A beautiful gray stallion from the race track desperately needed a place to go, so I phoned Jodi in Dixon. A big Thank You to Hoofbeats Horse Transportation for providing the transportation.

And a very hungry old gelding in Rio Linda is now happy and safe with Megan in Fairfield. The poor gelding was actually stuck in mud. A big Thank You to Holly Meeks for providing the transportation.

Yesterday I wrote I would share with you the story of 13 year old Selina who lives in Elverta. Last night Selina phones to say please do not write about her. Selina saved the life of a starving paint mare who was living in horrible conditions. Selina only asks I wish Happy Birthday to her little brother Tim, who last week turned 9. Well okay then. Happy Birthday Tim. And just so you know, the paint mare is happy and beginning to gain weight. She looks like Pony Boy. Selina is a sweetheart. Her favorite show is American Idol, and her favorite food is spaghetti. Selina loves horses with all her heart, and that is all I am allowed to tell you.

Get well soon Stephanie Diaz. Get well soon Stephanie Breaux. Get well soon Mikka Thorson. And get well soon Paula Coombs. All with terrible chest colds.

We missed some birthdays. Happy Birthday Randi Sorenson. Happy Birthday Megan Davis who lives in Davis. An entire city named after Megan. Happy Birthday Tasha Vadnais. Happy Birthday Mike Baker. Happy Birthday Noelle Carter, the big 18, and now Noelle can vote.

Enjoy your 51 degree Friday, and be sure to hug your horses. The days are a little longer. We cannot wait for the first fly of 2008. This mud is no fun...

    Joe

Top row shows scenes from a finally over January.

Bottom left is the gray stallion Devon Intervention, who went from the race track to live with our friend Jodi in Dixon. As always we Thank Jodi for never saying no.

Bottom right is a recent arrival from the race track, and his name is Freestrikesyourout.

    Good Morning.

    Good News For Renee's Ankle!

Barb AZ, New Mexico is sending some electric to Phoenix for the Super Bowl, from our wind turbines close to me. Hope y'all enjoy it, but keep some flashlights handy, just in case. Maybe some candles, too. :)

Posted by: Margie at February 1, 2008 4:00 PM

Hay, Margie. Thanks for the electricity. I heard we are going to need it.

Rush hour traffic has not been effected too much, because our rush hour is pretty early, starting around 5 AM. The Super Bowl traffic does not get started that early. Tomorrow and Sunday it is suppsoed to get pretty bad. There are reports they are already out of rental cars, but more are on the way from different neighboring cities/states.

    Good Friday Morning, ABR Famblee....

For those of you who have been keeping up with the Tobiano Gelding from SO/CAL...."CHARLEY"....we have hit a 'snag' of sorts...I was just devestated late last night..worried SICK for this beauuuuuutiful boy....transportation from So/Cal to Cottonwood, up North....approximately 600 miles was/is appearing to be VERY costly...approximately $1800.00....:-0 I am sure this can be worked out....i.e., a less costly 'ride'...but TIME was of the 'essence' as Saturday...TOMORROW was 'D-Day' for Charley....

I just learned that he will be going to a 'Foster Farm' in Lancaster tomorrow....so he will be SAFE there until transportaion details can be worked out....WHEW!!!

During my 'pulling of my hairs' and 'sweating of the bullets' this morning....I discovered there are *8* of us here in CA who are Charley's Horsemommys'.....*EIGHT*...I saw that number...and suddenly, I just KNEW it would, somehow, all be alright....that *MAGIC NUMBER 8* told me Barbaro is with us here and things WILL work out positively!!!

I will be away most of today, Famblee...but will keep you posted on 'CHARLEY'S JOURNEY TO SAFETY'...I PROMISE:)

Everyone, have a GREAT DAY today!!!

Feb. 1 Cherokee Devotional - sharing email from Harriette Brillianthawk

This morning the sun spilled pale gold over the horizon and filled all the space beneath the great oaks. High above, the red tailed hawk, know to the Cherokee as ta wo di, sailed lazily along air currents. Even though spring is still many weeks away, the land is beautiful to see. Now, while the trees are bare, there is a wider view of the hills and valleys. The colors are all muted shades of beige and gray and the hills are swathed in blue mist. Even the deer are outfitted by nature to be the same subtle shade of browns and tans to give them protection. A restful moment is a perfect moment. But we have to be open to it and receptive to anything that gives us peace of mind and no side effects. It can’t happen if our minds are set to be drab and dreary.

    Dearest FoBs:

Since we are so good at prayer (it's true) please keep good thoughts and prayer and anything else you can for my old friend, Chip Dreamer. He is having brain surgery this afternoon in Denver. He has been getting these *&%%^$ brain tumors taken care of with the gamma knife procedure.

But these two are, deeper, nastier...I've known this sweet guy for over 25 years...this all began with a melanoma, under his arm. A cautionary tale about getting checked by your doc/dermatologist every year.

God, will this week ever end. I've known about this for a week. And think it is time to get the bug guns involved...like The Chairman of the Board.

Chip's family was Nebraska farmer--still has two brothers at it--for 4 generations. Grew up around horses, all God's creatures...anyhow. So depressed.

Trying to take heart in the buds on the pear tree branches and the chickadees that are always with us. Spring will arrive. I just want this guy to be here to see it in Idaho, where they live...

It feels like all the male-peeples I have loved are melting away this year. Hug your horses, your kids, your grandkids, the beasts...life is so fragile.

    Courage: j

Outside is freezing rain and sleet (indeed, I got my "snow day" - no work for me today - cars and ice do NOT mix as far as I'm concerned!), but here inside my little house, my heart is warm.

Even tho I don't seem to be able to SEND emails from here, I have received some.........and today I had the pleasure of reading two more highly moving stories from ACN, Harriette's collection of the FOB's poetry and prose honoring our hero and the reason we exist, Barbaro.

So, Cathy P. no more excuses for you! Consider this a kick in your "heiney" to get your story to Harriette........I want to read yours and EVERYONE'S "offerings".

What better fuel to keep the fire that is the legacy of Barbaro glowing in our hearts?

######And then there is our Dee........speaking of glowing, YOU have been on fire lately! Your poetry the past two days has been especially moving. Thank you.

#######Catherine - PLEEEEAAAASSSSE continue to enliven this board with your inspirational, often hilarious stories. Just put ########'s at the beginning of your post so that people who are looking for "straight news" can hop over the post.

######Maribel - I do understand your point and respect what you are saying, but to keep people interested (and therefore continuing to come here to read and hopefully post comments) don't we need a good mix of views and commentary......if we have nothing but posts about horse slaughter I fear that we will once again LOSE many of the people who came back for the anniversary of Barbaro's passing..........

There is strength in numbers and the more people who "stay", the more people there are to fight for the federal legislation to outlaw horse slaughter - as well as to help support all the other causes that are so important to the FOBs.

There really is room for all of us here. The HOUSE THAT BARBARO BUILT is BIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGG!

    Again, respectfully,
    Glenda Jo

    Hi Famblee.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. This will be my first weekend without my Susie, so it will be a tough to say the least....

I found this on a person's myspace page:

    Dog Owners Beware!

This was sent to me by my dear friend, Toma. As a dog owner who considers this four-legged bundle of joy one of my children, I'm passing it on:

If you have a dog... PLEASE read this and send it on.

If you don't have a dog, please pass along to friends who do.

Written by: Laurinda Morris, DVM Danville Veterinary Clinic Danville , Ohio

This week I had the first case in history of raisin toxicity ever seen at MedVet.
My patient was a 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix that ate half a canister of raisins
sometime between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on Tuesday.

He started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking about 1AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't call my emergency service until 7AM.

I had heard somewhere about raisins AND grapes causing acute Renal failure but hadn't seen any formal paper on the subject. We had her bring the dog in immediately. In the meantime, I called the ER service at MedVet, and the doctor there was like me - had heard something about it, but...Anyway, we contacted the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center and they said to give I V fluids at 1 1/2
times maintenance and watch the kidney value for the next 48-72 hours.

The dog's BUN (blood urea nitrogen level) was already at 32 (normal less than 27) and creatinine Over 5 ( 1.9 is the high end of normal). Both are monitors of kidney function in the bloodstream. We placed an IV catheter and started the fluids. Rechecked the renal values at 5 PM and the BUN was over 40 and creatinine over 7 with no urine production after a liter of fluids. At the point I felt the dog was in acute renal failure and sent him on to MedVet for a urinary catheter to monitor urine output overnight as well
    as overnight care.

He started vomiting again overnight at MedVet and his renal values have continued to increase daily.
He produced urine when given lasix as a diuretic. He was on 3 different anti-vomiting medications and
they still couldn't control his vomiting. Today his urine output decreased again, his BUN was over 120,
his creatinine was at 10, his phosphorus was very elevated and his blood pressure, which had been
staying around 150, skyrocketed to 220. He continued to vomit and the owners elected to euthanize.

This is a very sad case - great dog, great owners who had no idea raisins could be a toxin.

Please alert everyone you know who has a dog of this very serious risk.

Poison control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could be toxic.

Many people I know give their dogs grapes or raisins as treats including our ex-handler's.

Any exposure should give rise to immediate concern.

Onions, chocolate, cocoa and macadamia nuts can be fatal, too.

Even if you don't have a dog, you might have friends who do. This is worth passing on to them.

Confirmation from Snopes about the above...

There is a film being shown in my community tomorrow night - "Saving The American Wild Horse". The director, James Kleinert, lives here. He will hold a Q&A afterwards.

You can read up on this at www.theamericanwildhorse.com

I am going to contact him and tell him about this site and what we're doing. He wants to educate the New Mexico Legislature and the public about the importance of approving HR 249.

This film appears to be a good expose. Randy Udall, brother of New Mexican Congressman Tom Udall (who supports us), is involved in this also.

Hay Pennsylvania, our horses need your help!

As Shelly and Debra have repeatedly told us, we cannot get these bills to a full vote without MORE COSPONSORSHIP. Pennsylvania is a big Ag state, and we are fighting a tough lobby. WILL YOU HELP US?

We are Team Barbaro Pennsylvania. Our team is now close to 60 strong and we’d like more of you to join us! We have 9 legislators who have not co-sponsored the bills. We are experiencing success! We do need more assistance, however...

There are 3 or 4 names to call, fax or email each day Monday through Thursday. It takes but a few moments to speak for the HORSES!

I am the Pennsylvania State Leader. Please email me if you’d like to join our Team Barbaro Pennsylvania and get on the emailing list for targeting our PA Senator and Reps who have not yet agreed to support the anti-slaughter legislation. You can email me at Lor's Email Addy.

    OUR HORSES NEED YOUR HELP!

A few minutes each day for our Horses it not much to ask.

Two Pike County, Ky., teenagers are behind bars for charges connected with a 2007 shooting spree that left three horses dead and another eight injured. The pair appeared in court in Pike County on Jan. 31 after their attorney and attorneys for the Commonwealth struck a plea deal in the case that was slated to go to jury trial on Feb. 4. (For more on this case see Mistrial Motion Delays Horse Killing Case Verdict).

According to spokesperson Leslie Anderson, Pike County Circuit Judge Eddy Coleman sentenced Jacob Ratliff, 18, and Michael Damron, 17, each to five years in prison after the pair pleaded guilty to multiple misdemeanor animal cruelty and criminal mischief charges. Both teens were tried as adults in the case.

Their prison sentences will be probated to six months' jail time, Anderson said, and both young men will remain under supervised probation for five years after their release from prison.

Last January, Ratliff and Damron were charged with running down and repeatedly firing rifle and pistol shots into a herd of horses grazing at a strip mine near the Breaks Interstate Park. The horses, owned by the Breaks Stables and used for trail rides at the park, had been grazing at the strip mine since the end of the trail riding season the previous October.

In addition to their incarceration, Ratliff and Damron were each ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution to Patricia Hayes, Christina Hayes, and Crystal Hayes, the horses' owners.

According to Anderson, Ratliff and Damron must make those restitution payments no later than 24 hours prior to their final sentencing, which is slated for March 14.

Meanwhile, according to published reports, Ratliff and Damron have filed suit against WYMT-TV, a Hazard, Ky., television station, claiming that a news reporter released their names before they were charged as adults.

Both Ratliff and Damron were minors at the time of their arrest, but they were tried as adults following a February 2007 court ruling.

No one from WYMT-TV or from Gray Television Group Inc., the station's Atlanta, Ga.-based parent company, were available for comment on the reported suit.

    Alex and Gang,
    (re: my post of 7:25PM)

I just spoke with the organizer of this film presentation. She works in conjunction with the director of the film. They want me to talk about this group after the movie tomorrow night. I am emailing them now, and I want them both to come here and have a look. They already want to gather together a New Mexico call in group.

I am praying something good comes of all this.

Needless to say, some of the things I told them caused shock and distress, and amazement at what you have all done.

OMG. Where is my barf bag when I need it? Can they use their (wrongfully gotten) money from their (totally ridiculous) lawsuit to pay their fines FOR MURDERING SOMEONE'S HORSES???!!! Maybe, hmmm, if they had not gona out and committed

    OK Alex and Gang,

I just wrote my letter to Julia Pyatt and James the director. I want them to come here because I cannot possibly explain all that goes on here, and I asked them to get in touch with Alex also.

James and Julia want to garner a lot of support for this. I am hopeful. This happened so quickly.

Now for a circle of connection, or serendipity in all of this. Viggo Mortenson will be in this film. Julia organized the filming of Seraphim Falls up here in Taos Ski Valley last year. Seraphim Falls starred Liam Neeson. To the 'older' posters here, remember how we were posting about Viggo and Liam over a year ago???

    Let's all be hopeful.

As long as the laws treat animals as "personal property", punishment for abuse of them will continue to remain woefully inadequate.........

And Nancy, you couldn't be more right.....serial killers almost always have a history of animal abuse in their younger years. Animal abuse by children should be a "red flag" to parents, teachers, neighbors, etc. that a child needs medical attention - immediately.

Extra Friday 2/1 Nat'l Target List (HAHS)

FIRST THINGS FIRST - Stress the importance of getting S 311 / HR 503 to a vote.

Be sure to tell all your contacts about what almost happened in South Dakota - and spread that VEW white paper far and wide [LINK in DB thread BELOW].

Tell these legislators (in addition to your own) about the SD development. REASON TO SUPPORT/ COSPONSOR/EXPEDITE S 311 / HR 503.

PREFACE/Heads-Up - per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/ request: Ask the Senators who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Senator Mary Landrieu, sponsor and promoter of the Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts - to counteract the position of the 2 big vet ass'ns. Links to their two latest antislaughter releases and their recently-released WHITE PAPER are in the DG thread noted below.

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

    800-828-0498

    800-459-1887

    800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR Strategy and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT/NEW Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists of Senators: (NOTE NEW SUGGESTION/CAVEAT FROM ABR STRATEGY, JUST BEFORE Prior HS History above the LIST OF SENATORS below.)

    1. Let [the legislators] know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently [since January], and the third (Cavel) has lost their appeal and [is now also closed]. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

    2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

    3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

    4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

    5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

    Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here is today's (Friday 2/1/08) extra National Target List from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S311 (Senators) & HR 503 (Representatives); ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind. The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

Prior HS History: prior cosponsors of S 1915 indicated below.

Friday 2/1 list - Senators (be sure to mention S 311)

No you don't understand....PLEASE email me??? That is NOT what I meant at ALL.....

PEEPLES please continue your love and concern for ALL animals but let's not get side tracked on the slaughter of animals raised for consumption. We don't need all the cattle ranchers etc saying "I told you so they're out to get US too!" WE NEED OUR ANTI HORSE SLAUGHTER BILLS PASSED FIRST and FOREMOST !! Don't stop caring BUT please remember that those other animals are raised for consumption and that is a whole other story!!!
DO NOT GET DRAWN INTO THAT LINE OF THINKING...pro-slaughter has tried to link that thinking to us before and in doing so to lessen our effectiveness! DO NOT GO THERE !!! We are on the verge of completing Barbaros Legacy!! Failure is not an option!!!

GLENDA, MARGIE, RENEE - you are all correct about warning signs in kids being ignored by parents...several friends who are still teaching (some in fine neighborhoods, and some in impoverished areas) say that when parents are summoned to discuss a disciplinary problem, their attitude is NOT MY CHILD...and so it grows!

I can't find the flyer. If anyone has suggestions for a hand out, please let me know where to find it. I may have some at home. Not sure though.

Thanks. 'Talk' to you all later.

Little Bucky needs our help, what a brave soul he is. They have some great gifts you can get for your donation, I just purchased some and the money goes to help Bucky - http://buckysboard.t83.net for those who can help

Good luck to Brass Hat in the Donn tomorrow at Gulfstream, I remember his comeback race when he won the Donn 2 years ago, he is a warrior.

The state groups are working to spring everyone into action at a moments notice like with S. Dakota. Please consider joining if you haven't and help us get more co-sponsors to stop the slaughter of Barbaro's brothers and sisters.

    Maribel,
I am at home (have been here all day due to weather conditions) and my email doesn't work properly....when I try to send emails they "disappear"........
Otherwise I would email you because I can hear the urgency in you post and want to assure you that neither I nor anyone else is advocating an end to slaughter of animals raised for consumption. Or if we ARE doing that, we are not doing it on THIS site. We were talking briefly about VEAL and only about the realities of VEAL "production".
Like some others here, I wish I had the discipline to become a vegetarian, but, dang it all, I still do like a cheeseburger fresh off the grill........and had a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch!
If I go to work tomorrow, I will email you from my office computer where my email works (but sends messages saying that it doesn't........OMG, me and my email problems, LOL!)

    Take care,
    Glenda Jo

    Margie,

What a tremendous opportunity you have to spread the word about horse slaughter. Just start talking from the heart about it, and you will be fine. They probably won't be able to shut you up!

    You go, Girl!!

    ### jonna - Every good thought for your friend, Chip. I know how very nerve-wracking that is...

    ### Whoever was swooning over Viggo - please move over, as I need some swooning room, too.

    ### Margie - WAY TO GO! See what one person can do!

    Love to all -

JEAN NOLAN - maybe we should say that everyone who is NOT swooning over Viggo should raise their hands...hmmm, don't see any hands in the air - LOL!

    hi ALL!
Well, someone called about my missing cat ad in the newspaper today. it wasn't my cat :( but a SKINNY little cute MANX kitty. he's about 4-5 months and he was next to a busy hwy... so I took him home, stopped by the feed store to get him some food - he finished a can at the counter while we were checking out!!! feed store donated a bag of food for him - but I NEED TO PLACE HIM!
ANYONE IN TEXAS want to give a sweet little manx kitty a HOME???
I call him FEATHER, because that's about as much as he weighs...
I will place him on craigslist, petfinder, petharbor etc - but it will be hard to keep him from being "eaten" by our dogs...

just thought i'd throw the idea out there to our tx fobs :)
email me at katbuesking@yahoo.com if you know anybody who want to give him a good home.

    thanks,
    kat

Hi All, thank you so much for the warm welcome. I really appreciate it.

I've just been trying to catch up on all the goings on on the board.

All of my guys and girls seem to be doing okay. I haven't had an update on Karakorum Elektra in a while but I assume that she is healing as I haven't heard anything to the contrary

My other girl Ambling Rose(Rosie) will be running this coming Monday at Philadelphia Park in the 9th race. Please keep her in your thoughts that she has a safe trip home.

My little Coby is supposed to be in Florida resting for his three year old campaign. He's not happy about it though as he is segregated in a pen by himself because he's getting a bit rambunctious and they don't want him to get hurt. He's going back into light training and may return sooner than expected. Bellagio is with Coby in Florida and is enjoying his R & R. He will be in training shortly for his three year old campaign.

Glide N Seek and Razzle Dazzle are both in training and should be making their return/debut shortly.

My partners will be going to OBS in March to purchase another horse for us. I can't wait for my new baby boy or girl. I just love it.

    ###
Shelley, Mr. Boxcar is absolutely precious. He looks a bit like Coby.

    ###
My thoughts and prayers go out to all.

    Take care all

Just popping in. Everything here is ice-coated. but the roads were OK. Had to venture out for food, etc.

    Thanks for the good

Haven't talked to Chip's SO yet...I think Denver is 2 hours behind...lengthy surgery etc, will call her later.

Re VIGGO: yum yum. Yole know he adopted one of the
Hidalgo horses, right? Of course you know that. He is--as an old friend of mine used to say--to eat with a spoon.

Will make all my calls tomorrow. Today I felt like I was having a freaking heart attack...not a good day. It'll be OK.

Wishing all of you a warm and peaceful night.

Posted by: jonna at February 2, 2008 12:28 AM

    a great Viggo site:
    http://www.viggophile.net/welcframes.html

Note the book he did on horses, listed in his works page: THE HORSE IS GOOD...I'd like to see that.

Anyhow: something to warm yole up on a cold winter's night....

###Lisa, thank you for posting the information about raisins and dogs. Raisins are tasty and healthy for people - who'd know. I am so grateful that I remembered something - didn't know what - when my beautiful yellow Lab ate a boatload of raisins a year and a half ago. I went online, called ASPCA who sent me to the vet. He was treated and was fine. Key, moving fast to (sorry) get the dog to return the raisins the same way they ate them.

Spreading the word is a great service, thank you for posting that. ASPCA Poison Hotline ... awesome. Hope we don't need it again but it's in my cell phone.

just back from a few unavoidable errands - has Russell Baze hit the magic number yet?

omg - just scanning some Comments from where I left off - MARGIE hit the media jackpot for The Movement! Who wudda thunk!?!?! About time New Mexico has a group! Can't wait to go back and read all about it.

    ########
Pearl continues to amaze. Still a while before she will join Zorro and the rest; just when I think she's faltering, she perks up after a meal (very frequent small meals) and I can't make the call quite yet. So sorry - Zorro's mom -

    #########
Last time I went into the studio (me and a Steinway) and asked for a FOB Boost - positive energy of your choice, haha - we accomplished more and better than my waaaldest dreams. Well if you're so inclined - from noon until three and probably longer tomorrow (Saturday) - back in the studio to add tracks of the imported lead guitar player (all the way from Michigan, haha) and also get input from the orchestrator who's been mulling over the rough cuts. Probably also will be adding the Theramin to a few tomorrow too. ANYWAY - all good thoughts shamelessly solicited! We're keeping the music alive . . .

    ### Barb AZ - thank you, thank you. I will do my best for you all, and I hope the heavenly herd has my back.

Thank you everyone for your support. Of course I will report back.

Off to do the printing now. I hope I have enough reams of paper.

Posted by: Margie at February 2, 2008 2:19 AM

    ### Nancy in CT - For Viggo-swoon, in this group, we would apparently need a padded room. Then, ladies, we'd have to fight it out!

    ### Sabina - Thanks for the raisin note. I've been lucky, I guess, because I know my old dog used to scarf up everything the kids left lying around when they were little. Also, thanks for the note on the SD poll. I think we've been visiting it - or one like it - but we need to keep the numbers strong.

    ### CJ - Good music tomorrow. I'm jealous, both because you're "home" - (well, the home of my childhood, anyway!) - and you're making music. What fun!

Love to all, comfort to those in need, and thank you for being here.
