Barbaro Updates: 477

updates are now here.

Update 2941: Curlin posted his first work this morning since the Breeders' Cup Classic: Curlin Posts Work at Fair Grounds.

Santa Anita canceled racing for the second day in a row: Santa Anita Cancels Jan. 6 Program.

Update 2940: Nine sets this morning and a warm morning it was. One of my sets was a bit of a disaster (quote from the assistant trainer) going sideways and too fast at the gallop. Not so good, the remainder all went nicely. Oh well, sometimes things don't go quite as you like them to. Also, when it is work day (like today) you end up riding many horses you don't usually ride. One of the horses I ride everyday except when she works, worked really nicely this morning. I am guessing she is about a month from running, it will be fun to see how she runs. She last ran at Saratoga and won I think. All in all a decent morning bar the one horse, but that happens once in a while. Now off to ride an OTTB which I hope is fun!

Update 2939: A pleasant evening spent at Sam Houston Race Park yesterday evening with LyndaP. Paul Nolan won the first two races.

Bernardini has sired his first foal, a filly out of Belle Nuit: Bernardini Sires First Foal.

Update 2938: Smooth Air won his first stakes race in the Hutcheson at Gulfstream this afternoon: Smooth Air Breezes to Hutcheson Win. Off to Sam Houston Race Park for a couple of hours of racing.

Update 2937: Unsafe conditions, caused by the weather and poor drainage in its Cushion Track, has led Santa Anita to cancel racing today: Santa Anita cancels racing.

Update 2936: Only eight sets this morning, and this despite the fact that one rider was a "no show" and we had to each ride one of his horses. We did have a new rider start, he has worked for Steve for a while but came in from the Fair Grounds. He actually worked for Steve at Presque Isle so I knew him a little bit. All in all a decent morning's work, whacky warm (and a little wet) weather aside. During the break I acquired more peppermints, one for the pony, the rest for me. I also watched some racing from the UK in our tackroom, its funny watching it with American racing guys asking all sorts of questions.

Update 2935: Santa Anita is bracing for bad weather across its Cushion Track which already has drainage issues: Everyone's focus on track.

Frank Stronach and his Adena Springs Farm top the list of breeders for the fifth consecutive year: Adena Springs Tops Breeders' Lists. Adena Springs also has a retirement program: Adena Springs Retirement Program.

Good morning, fellow Fans!

I have been reading but not posting the past week but I want to say that I'm sending my condolences to all who have lost loved ones (two-legged or four) recently. Also sending prayers to all who are ailing and in need.

Thank you, Alex and Tim and Penny. And thank you , Barbaro!

Hay, FOB's!

###
This is a busy weekend for me...so may not be on the site too often until Monday...just wanted to offer my prayers to those who lost loved ones - human and furbaby - and for those caught in the storms - please be safe.

###
I haven't done a current reconciliation of the funds coming in for 1/29/08, but the endeavour is gathering momentum...there are so many generous people in this famblee - you restore my hope when I read all the e-mails and communications about how Barbaro has affected and changed them - for the better. I'm in awe of you and of what Alex, Tim, Penny, NBC, KF,Dr.R, the Jacksons, Michael Matz, Peter Brette, Eduardo, and Edgar have been a part of.

###
For those going to watch Real Lace (a/k/a Lacie-girl) please "tell" her I'm thinking of her but due to teacher training, couldn't go to see her race. May she run with the wind and come home safely. She always has a place in my heart. Penny, Donna and I are coming to the barn on Sunday morning...hopefully we'll catch you there...

###
And Red Aspen...I can imagine how BEAUTIFUL any of her foals would be...and I hope they inherit her spirit as well. What a mama she'll be...

I love you all.

###Survived the first of three storms and discovered I have "new lake areas" in my back yard. Usually I sleep well when it's raining, but I kept waking up last night. Long day today (always harder to do horse chores in the slop) and a lesson tomorrow, for which I have had no chance to practice.

Life's tough. ;o)

###Happy to read about another retirement program from responsible breeders and trainers. I am a frequent visitor to Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program and Tranquility Farm Web sites.

###Let us hope Jennys on Radio (name not quite right, I don't think, but you all know who I mean) is retired before she becomes another Brave Miner. That situation still saddens and angers me.

These wonderful animals deserve happy retirements, whether they go on to become riding horses or learn to perform in other disciplines or are pasture pals.

###And God bless TB Friends and Joe and Cathy.

Happy New Year, too. Day Four and we're getting the rain we need (and then some) in Southern California. I could do without the wind, but it has settled down now.

MICHAEL VICK - OUT EARLY?

Michael Vick could be getting out of federal prison much earlier than anticipated after applying for a prison-monitored drug rehabilitation program.

MICHAEL VICK - MAY GET OUT EARLY

Posted by: Socorro at January 5, 2008 1:38 PM

Not only should Michael Vick have to do ALL his time, he should have to do it in dog years!

Debbie,

Could you blue link this on the board tomorrow? I will be gone all day long and won't get a chance to post.

Hoping all out in the West Wing are hanging on...it sounds terrible out there. everyone is awaiting a word or two from Joe and Cathy and the 110 horses on the ranch. And LYNEE???!!! are you there?

I just endured all I could of the TOTALLY FRUSTRATING AND REDUNDANT process of joining Yahoo Groups so that I could hitch onto TB Friends, Inc, the group that supports Joe's efforts...
I gave up...anyone else have an insane time getting registered for a Yahoo Group????EWWWWWW>

In the 30's here today, we're practically back in shorts (lol) OK off to call the answering machines in DC.
Love to all who have suffered the loss of a loved companion...

Safe rides to all who put hoof and feet on our tracks today. That mess in Santa Anita makes me
gnash my teeth

Welcome back Joan!

Therese, I love the "dog years" on Vick's sentence. Oh if that could only be.

For everyone out west, please be safe and report in when you have an opportunity. I talked to my uncle in Chico, CA and he said it was horrible out there. May all humans and furbabies be safe, and warm.

### Jonna

I also remember having problems getting in, but I finally got it to work. And it was worth it, if only to see pictures of Joe and Cathy! Also, I contribute to the group efforts for TB Friends.

Goodmorning Barbaro Nation...

PLEASE take a moment to vote in the anti-slaughter poll that is blue-linked .....
perhaps someone could BLUE LINK BOTH POLLS so that it will be easy to vote on both the Senate Poll and the Congress Poll ??????

What an insensitive uneducated bunch the pro-slaughter forces are !!!! I can't go on or I'll be here typing all day!!!!!

SAFE TRIP for ALL TODAY!!!

PRAYERS that Michael Vick will find NO MERCY!!! NO EARLY PAROLE!!!!!
What will we tell our children???? How will they ever learn anything from these examples......

HUGS and love to ALL my friends who definitely...

GET IT !!!!!

Jonna

I too had problems linking onto Yahoo!!! My internet provider had blacklisted them as security risks!!!! MaryL our computer guru helped me....she would help you too and anyone else who needs help!!! I had to download Firefox to get around it....

This time last year we had such high hopes for Barbaro's recovery. We had all become somewhat complacent hearing ACN.

Now, as we are approaching the anniversary of his crossing the Rainbow Bridge, we should reflect on all the good works being done in his name, in his memory. The friendships made.

Please take the time to go to the discussion board & look at the thread HORSE FEATHERS RAFFLE - BARBARO PICTURE. There is a gorgeous Barbara Livingston picture of Barbaro at Fair Hill. She has captured the wisdom of his soul as it shines in his eyes.

I cannot imagine anyone seeing the picture & not wanting it for their very own. Supporting a rescue is a great way to honor Barbaro's memory.

has anyone heard from the Sheltons? His last post was long ago...I pray they are all OK and none of the horses has flipped out and over or through the fencing...

Maybe one day when I have more patience, I will join the Yahoo group for Friends of TB Friends, Inc. Grr.
BTW: Marbel: I already use Firefoxxxxxxxxx. I am going mental.

I just voted FOR... at the time the results showed 77% for and 23% against.

Some of the comments from some people show that they have very LITTLE heart.

We all NEED to VOTE FOR!!!!!

### Jonna, this was posted last night:

JUST TALKED TO JOE AT TB FRIENDS!!!!

I couldn't stand it any more! They have power but no phone line to the house. Webmaster Max was supposed to put up a message. All the horses are okay. He said all the horses are okay! Winds have been 70mph, and he said everything is a mess, but they are okay.

Okay, as a weird observation, he didn't sound older at all. You know, how he says they are having the time of their senior citizen lives? Didn't sound that way to me.

Have a good night everyone...I hope that puts some minds at ease...it did for me.

Thanks, Kathy B:) I was just going to find that post and re-post it here:)

This morning, in these Foothills of no/cal..it's CALM...semi-clear..another storm approaching by later today, into tomorrow, but according to Mr. Finan of KCRA TV-Sacramento....."WIMPY"...the description of these next storms is 'WIMPY' well, Mr. Finan, we will HAPPILY take 'WIMPY'!!!

SoCal is in for it today...they are getting the tail of the storm which hit us y'day..hoping it will be NOT like ours was...so many burn areas down there and mud slides a REAL threat for them!!!

Lots of 'debris' here...pieces of branches...but thankfully, all small! The 'remnant' leaves which seems most of them have blown and placed themselves at the bottom of my front steps:/ piles..not so bad...I'll get them later today into bags to dispose of...neighbor lost a big gate which seperated his front yard from back yard where his veggie garden goes in the summertime, and of course the flowers and rosebushes are....the DEERSIES will be ESTATIC if they discover that gate is destroyed:)He built it 8'high to keep them OUT....:/ it's been ripped from it's frame and is laying in pieces all over the cement patio!!! Oh Deer:)

I'm hoping for all horses running ANYWHERE today, to love every moment....but COME HOME SAFE!!!

Lyn G:) Please give *TOOCUTELUKE* some auntylynneladeeeattafens 'skritches' for me, o.k.? and a carit or 12, too!!! :)

Everyone, have a safe happy day today.....

Safe racing today for Real Lace and welcome back to Red Aspen!

Alex,Penny,Wendy and Tim...you all are the best!

Jonna, try this. Go to the Yahoo home page, on the left you will see a column of various topics. Click on 'Groups'. Then type in 'Friends of TB Friends' and it will direct you to that group. Follow the instructions to join...and then wait for approval by the group moderator. You will be notified by e mail when that occurs, its not instantaneous, unfortunately. The postings of that group will be sent to your e mail account automatically...I didn't select 'digest' because that is delivered to you email only once a day, I like to receive them as they are posted. Unfortunately, since I just joined, I have no news on Joe and Cathy.

You posted during the holidays that you were reading Pillars of the Earth. I received it for Christmas and the size has overwhelmed me from even opening the first page!

### Jonna

Joe sounded okay when I spoke with him last evening. Just busy. I would like to join their Yahoo group also, but I never have been sucessful in the past.

### Lynne...just checked weather.com for Sacremento...says more rain for today and tomorrow but less wind...be careful as you zoom about today. Are your frens inside the fence okay?

Kathy, SC:) I felt soooooo badly for them y'day...as driving home in the Monsoon/Hurricane!!! They were in their respective stalls, staying OUT of the weather..but I KNOW they HATE being 'confined'...they, like ALL the horseys, like being out in their pasture, grazing:)

When I drove into town y'day before the bad rain had hit...horsedaddy left them inside their pens so they would be safe in the stalls...they were BOTH standing outside the stalls....STARING at the house!!! LOL!!! Kinda like, "C'mon DADDDD...get OUT here and 'release' ussssss!!!! *MISTER* gets a real 'wide eyed' expression on his horsey face!!!! His earsies are PRICKED and he's 'toe-tapping' TO GET OUTTA HERE and into the PASTURE, PLEASSSSSEEE!!! I have learned through Horsemommy/dad, that when it is raining...the kiddddds have to stay INSIDE the pens, 'cause if they are out in the pasture with their horsey hoofs slopping 'round in the muddddd, no new grass will grow for their enjoyment next Spring!!! I just keep learning ALL KINDS of little 'tidbits' all because of *BARBARO*:):):)

Are you reading this Handsome Sweetheart:) YES! ALL BECAUSE OF YOU, WONDERFUL YOU!!! Gosh! I am SO GLAD I MET THAT BIG BAY BOY:) A whole WORLD of HORSEY STUFF is out there for me to LEARN:) and be a small part of!!!!

Another GREAT PLACE to go with questions is equineheaven@aol.com.....whoever that Farm Manager is....they know EVERYTHING about horseys, Famblee!!!! 'They' are a complete HORSEY ENCYCLOPEDIA....:) I've gotten 'ALOTSA' questions answered THERE:)

O.K., now, I really MUST zooooooom!!!

####
barbara: the frothy sound of growling and snarling and hiccuping you may hear is ME in LIVERPOOL NY, HATING Yahoo....good grief. Puleeze, someone kill me now.

What's even worse is that my christmas tree---a real one, has PART of a string of 100 NEW lights--guaranteed for three 3 years hahahahahahahahahahahah--OUT.
Out. OUT! As in unlit. Dark, useless. Defunct. Kissed off.

So (Lynne B. in CA will be hoping that I don't hang myself over this continuing incident) I have taken the ornaments in the path of this errant string of so-called GUARANTEED lights off and will have to find some kind of sedative before I attempt to re-dress the tree....

Yes, I am crazy--in case you were wondering....("OK, is she crazy?) I delayed by festivities this year by a long time for various reasons--again, Lynne is laughing, she knows the
anguish I went through trying to decide:

REAL
OR NOT REAL????

And I usually have at least three trees...I was thrilled to see that Wendy Drew had three... I mean, (as Lynne B. would say:)

"MY WORD?! We can't just mix up the heart ornaments and the animal ornaments and the 40's/50's ornaments and the hand-blown German ornaments??? Good Grief. What is the world coming to FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE?! AND WHAT ABOUT THE BUGEONING COLLECTION OF DEER/REINDEER ORNAMENTS??"

OK so we need drugs here, obviously

Books: Yes, Pillars of Heaven is indeed a BIGBOOK> While I've waded into it, I am just finishing the Golden Compass books again. I do think that Philip Pullman was trying out the mushrooms when he wrote the last of the three books... Lyra encounters a race of beings on one of the worlds who have a diamond shape to their "backs," (no spine, okay??) a small elephant-shaped trunk, and in addition to legs--OK here's where he switched to Acid --they have wheels.

Lord Lord...

OK, SO I have to keep busy so I don't look at the trashed christmas tree AND worry about Joe and Cathy in the Tempest...

Love to all, send sedatives. Strong Ones. j

Of course that word was BURGEONING...help us now. I need to lay down with Greyhounds. I may make Loretta lay ON ME so that I can absorb all her greyhoundness, and that will get me through the day.

Jonna Dear...Christmas AND New Year have come and gone now....'mayhaps' just forget the ornaments for this time 'round and begin 'undressing' the tree .... make sense?

As for me.....reading of the various ornament collections...I realized:(:(:( I'll have to take *SLEW* and *BARBARO* DOWN????? And WHAAAT???? Wrap them up into a BOX???? In the DARK????!!!! oh, I am not so sure I can do that!!! Afterall, they ARE the 'FIRST' HORSEYS EVERRRRR on my tree!!!! I do have a place on hutch where the German Smokers and Nutcrackers are left out all year long....:) Above them on the wall is an assortment of special Christmas collecter plates...maybe I can somehow use a 'display' hanger:) which, YES, I DO have one and leave those BOYS out all year long, toooooo!!! :) They can hang there side by side...happily being part of Valentine's Day, St. Patty's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, and so on and so on....:) I LIKE that idea, Fambleeeee:) I'm NOT putting those two soooooo *SPECIAL* horseys in a BOX in the DARK!!!They can make frens with the nutcrackers and smokers:)

Alright....obviously, I'm draggin my feets leaving home this morning....:/ this is IT!!!

A small amount of sedative, a curl up with Loretta and then back to task. Or not...your choice. I'm certain the GH would love the trees to be up longer. Nothing better than those soft lights when they're nodding off to dreamland. I have only one tree this year, a 4 ft Alpine like you get from Joanne fabrics, took one string of lights and about 20 minutes to decorate. A total cop out on my part. You can deal with Yahoo, it only took me about a minute and I'm VERY limited in computer skills, trust me.

The Golden compass books sound interesting. I'll add them to my wanna be list of books to read.

www.atlantafalcons.com, scroll to bottom and click on contact us. Let them know that you find the boorish behavior of some of their players decorating their uniforms with vick I.D. during the Saints game - sickening and offensive. I'm sure each NFL organization has rules applying to the players' uniforms.

Posted by: Margie at January 5, 2008 5:58 PM

###
Margie,
All parts of a football team's uniforms must be approved by the NFL (some committee). This includes ANY comemmoratvie patches.

I suggest we also contact the NFL letting them know how disgusted we are that the Falcons were allowed to "honor" vick. We could suggest, well, I can't but you ladies can, that we won't allow the FOB husbands/boyfriends/significant others to watch ANY football games unless they disallow the Falcons. As well as continuing to contact the Falcons.

The NFL will do almost anything to avoid a public relations disaster; or to avoid a loss of revenue! Money talks and you ladies control 90% of the money in this country. GO GET EM LADIES!

Hello All,

This request is regarding all animals, horses included, but I thought this was the best place to post my question.

A friend of mine has undertaken her own personal project to provide books that teach compassion for animals to public school libraries.

If you know of a book that would be appropriate for this purpose, I would appreciate it if you would send me the title and author, and I will pass the information on to her. Any grade level K-12 is fine.

Thank you,

Linda

I wanted this commendable project to get as much exposure as possible so am posting here. Get your thinking caps on and post to Linda at the thread linked above. THANKS!

I know the comments board is mainly about horses, but I know that most horse people are cat lovers, too, sooo...in the "Non-Horse" section of the discussion/chat board, Winging Cat Rescue is trying to raise funds to transport 45 cats north (from Ga.) to a sanctuary, then (hopefully!!) to new, forever homes. The cats have been saved from gassing "shelters" (shelters-ha!) in Georgia.

I hope I didn't do anything wrong by posting the fund raiser here--if I did, I'm sorry. But I just wanted to get this out to a maximum amount of people.

Thanks!

#### re the Golden Compass books, (I saw reference to them in a post)... I'm just injecting my own opinion here...

I am not at all interested in giving my money to promote their sales. I have heard that this trilogy glorifies and promotes atheism. They chronicle events in a beautiful and beguiling way, telling of a struggle between good and evil. However, the 'evil' one actually ends up to be God.

While there are many people in the world who are atheists, this particular mindset is not MY cup of tea. I think that the books seek to capitalize on the current market for fantasy and mystical imagry, to promote the rejection of God. They are cleverly marketing to children and young adults.

I would rather read Edgar's book, Lyn Gilbert's and the beautiful writing that we are treated to here in Barbaronation.

Trusting hearts, seekers of beauty, beware. The enemy sometimes poses as an "angel of light."

...I say again, I offer this as my OWN observation and opinion; not wishing to offend anyone who might be of a different opinion.

Loving ALL of yoooo.

Just a reminder: A fundraiser is on the forum for 11 horses in Central Illinois. AWI has graciously allow us to funnel money to them for the purchase and transport of these horses. AWI fights for the Anti Slaughter Bill everyday, thus they are fighting for BARBARO'S LEGACY. If you can, please donate to this save, because AWI is helping these horses and us.

FOB'S

If you can help in anyway at all please go to this thread. Even if you can only afford $5.00 it will all help:)

The title is AWI 11 horses to slaughter ~ under the rescue folder.

I don't know how to make the link work so you can just click on it?

http://forums.prospero.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=alexbrown&msg=18374.1

The owner of these horses had arranged to sell them to a killbuyer for slaughter.

The FOB's found out about it and wanted to save them but we had no where to home the horses.

Gail talked to HAHS and they agreed to take the horses however their policy will not allow them to actually pay a horse owner for their horse. It is surrender type transactions only.

Gail talked to AWI/SAPL and Chris Heyde agreed to let the FOB'S funnel the funds through them and even though it is their policy not to pay an owner for horses said they would collect the funds for the FOB'S and cut a check to the owner so the horses could be saved.

It was never AWI's intention of paying for these horses. They were asked to do us a favor and collect the money so WE could save them?

Something happened?

AWI said they would step in and save these horses if the FOB's couldn't??? Gail did not ask them to do that she asked them to accept the donations and cut a check to the owner???

Whatever... I don't know. I DO know that AWI/SAPL spends a boat load of money on lobbyist, attorneys and so on to help get the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act passed to stop the brutal slaughter of the American Horse. I personally want them to spend their money on the AHSPA and would pay for these horses myself if I could just to keep AWI/SAPL from footing the bill.

We need help here. If you can only afford $5 or $10 it all adds up. There are no paypal fees.

Thank you everyone for helping and understanding.

Otherlyn:

for sure Pullman's Golden Compass Trilogy made a few people stand on their heads... just like another amazing group of books: The Tolkein Trilogy.

I would personally never hand these books to a "child" younger than 16...they're much too complex for oner thing, and they also encourage very free and complex thinking--thinking that is better left to the later teen years.

OTOH: Pullman, Tolkein--probably the great EB White who wrote the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe have all appeared on someone's banned book list.

LOL: I thought too many very young children were allowed to read JK Roweling's books...just too complex, too much violence, etc etc. I loved them. Many "grown ups" did!

But what and how we read should be a sacred trust all Americans never refuse to let die...maybe you're no old enough to watch those scary films of Nazis burning books: Huck Finn among them: sigh.

Anyhow. We should not be debated this here, that's for sure...hope you're not living in the nasty weather zones...have a fine evening.

Why is Vick (skumbag) getting a reduced sentence because of a drug re-hab? I thought he was jailed for animal abuse. I guess he will be playing for Atlanta soon. ARGH!~!~~~~~~
of course: it's CS Lewis....too tired tonight, and my brain shows the effects and Narnia is the land in which most of the story takes place....The Chronicles of Narnia are comprised of seven books....and the allusions to Christianity are woven throughout the series...THANKS JAN

Lol: I named one of my Irish Wolfhounds, Aslan, the lion king in Narnia...lovely books. But again, IMHO: not for little guys. THANKS PADME

I did so love the movie Farenheit 451...did you see that, with Oskar Werner and the glorious Julie
Christie...the characters, each memorizing an entire great book to keep the books alive even after they were destroyed by the repressive government.

#### Dear Maribell, the "Little Traveler," Thanks for your kind words. I too, remember WAY TO OZ, and his magnificent presence when he came in 3rd, in BARBARO's Birthday race, last April. Yes, I will keep him in my prayers, and add him to my Virtual Stable.

All that is needed to claim him, is a registered owner or trainer, to sign his tag before the race. If OZ loses, he belongs to the tag.

Our dear BARBARO had it all, Heard, Heart, Courage. Let's hope and pray that WAY TO OZ will end up in loving hands, thinking, "Ah yesssss, there's no place like...HOME!"

...You did good for Hans. So much more than an ex would even think of doing. We both know, and Hans does too, where THAT kind of Love comes from.

Please do let me know when you get home too, my Fren.

####DearHeart jonna, my sweet FOB Fren,

No book burning advocate here...no no, not even to make flames that keep us warm, here in the frozen North.

The power of the pen is too precious a gift to stifle. I merely meant to opine, and so, by the power of the puter-pen, did so.

The cold winter sky is white, tonight, with a few breaks, up into the beautiful star filled blackness. I always take a moment to go out and look up into the heavens in quiet reflection. It is a time to remember, a time to hope, and a time to give thanks for being a small, but blessed creature in this great, grand scheme. God is so good!

I only have cats to warm my slumber. My two "hounds" (a Boxer and a feisty little Terrier), would not be willing to share mom's dreams with the cat-boys, so they snooze in the kitchen.

With my lovelies, here, my son and daughter at home tonight; with your well wishes, and the warmth of Frenship at Barbaronation, it will be
a fine evening indeed.

Your FOB Fren, O ^-,^

###Don't fret, little jonna. You came through, loud and clear.

I read your post, smiled, then went into the other room and kissed each of their foreheads.

My daughter leaves for school, in Florida, early tomorrow morning.

Tonight, we are all together, in the house. My son is here to spend some time with the two of us, and to go to that airport to see his sister off, and to hold my hand as she goes.

I will sleep well tonight, with both "foals" in the barn. Tomorrow I will let them fly. My daughter will be miles away, at school, and my son will go back to his own place. (Out on his own for the first time this last fall).

Oh yes, I will be looking back, over my shoulder...remembering. Then I will look ahead, and watch them run, far and fast into a future of their own making.

...but tonight...the comforter...and the sweet dreams.

Goodnight, all.

Te quiero sin saber cómo, o cuándo, o de dónde, sin complejidad u orgullo; así te quiero porque no sé otra manera de quererte.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, without complexity or pride - so I love you, because I know no other way.

so many teachings--------
oh

on the hills

some sea gulls dip down by the hilly woods

there is a mystery about the greatness
of what we all saw

that time
when he sprang out of his gate as a youngster ,
growing into his manhood
very quickly by the Derby time

the heart raced ,the eyes watered
you just knew we were
in the presence of something extraordinary

so the greeks
they knew about tragedy

many
knew about the hell that opened up
on that may day
of the searing fate, the loss

and it struck me all of a sudden

i to recognizing the defintions of
descent and the ascent

the tragedy that day

that maybe
i now see him complete in his celestial home
because of his way
his messages of compassion bridge building
pure passion

that the big heart of it all
this legacy
that it bends me
to look at what

emptiness

means
perhaps in the descent of loosing him physically
that is
the fullness

the gold

his job to win the derby in a stunning fashion
two weeks later
he looked deeply into the stands as he left pimlico
from the ambulance
with his head resting on eduardo;s shoulder
feeling the deep agony of frozen tears on cheeks
gasps ,oh save him

that he knew
he had some unfulfilled destiny
to interact with a nation and individuals
who would re open their hearts
where they were closed
no boundaries
with love

you are all part of that moment
you were there now here
i am there here

and i leave there
now
with the joy of his gifts
deep in the song of my own heart
transformed

it is deeply personal
this journey
his ability to trust
redemptive

we battle endlessly the serpentine
ways of entrenched interests
who today destroy and take away the furture
of our children

'this lesson in the spirit of 1776
we are in the trenches

think of daryl and john and so many
who post and work to call and fax

oh yes it is deeply personal

he points me to the hunger for love and love
is a verb

the hunger for cooperation
..for those who try to defraud the innocent
in the end
will get their karma
never mind
the negative in this song

for a split second
you saw

lets go down to the river
..oh sisters and brothers
lets go down to the river and pray
studying the way
who shall wear the crown?

each one of you has multiplied
his song
deeply personal=exactly the point
oh yes
the cedar and the moss

what does it take
to define his legacy?

let your hearts rise
to your own calling
so that when that day comes in january
we are all collectively
at ten 15am? jan 29th
in the light
in the stillness
in the invisible dimensions
of his
and our
new found sense
of what a luminous life a moment
means
to each heart;s soul
that garden

for him to see and feel
all over the land
we are accountable
we heAr you
we are you
we are one

for the goodness
the effort of dOing it the right way
no matter what
the opposition

i love you
i hear you
from little wilie
so despondent with his human contacts

i cry out
to all of you
from place to place
where his hooves rested and worked and played

that dictate the torture and waste of great horse souls

we hear their cries
we will stop their tears
forever in my heart

why is the Bernardini news bittersweet? because the babe is a female, not male? Don't all the great racing line travel on the mare side of the pedigree?

The HORSEYS were THUNDERING over us here in these Foothills of CA y'day afternoon around 2:30-3:00!!
OMGOODNESS!!! Lightning, THUNDER...HAIL THE SIZE OF SMALL MARBLES!!! It was WILD, Famblee!!! Knocked out our electricty for nearly FOUR hours!!! Soooooo many candles burning...no heat...made for an 'interesting' few hours! This computer is a lap top..and therefore, has a battery....HOWEVER, I wasn't sure which cords to undo...did one thinking for sure THIS must be the 'one'...it wasn't...we were in what they call 'brown out', the icon kept changing from the 'plug' to 'battery'...screen kept changing from darkish to light...I was afraid I'd burn up the COMPUTER, so shut it all down!!! :/ I nearly LOST MY MIND without the INTERNET....how dependent I am on today's conveniences, how inept I am at the workings of today's conveniences!!!:(

We took Murphy o'side in the VERY darka-darka with a flashlight!!!! Keeping track of whether or not he was, in fact, doing what he SHOULD out there....suddenly, I saw *LIGHT* coming from our neighbor's home:) Opened the back door...THE HEATER WAS ON:) Yippppeeeee-Skippppppyyyyy!!! Oh YES!!! Daughter and I were HAPPPPPYYYYY LADEEEEEES:) And so was MURPHY:) he gets very 'nervouuuuuuuse' when the power is OUT!! The battery operated radio did NOTHING to reassure him:/ He wanted LIGHTS AND TV!!!! lol!

I'm hoping y'all are safe/warm/dry and having a FINE SUNDAY MORNING!!!

We are getting the storm from the west coast now. I have 6" of mud outside. I have washed a lot of legs and paws this morning. I hope the clouds and rain get out of here pretty soon. But I am thankful, no thunder to scare anyone, and my electric is still OK. I hope everyone survived this mess.

Speaking of lights and TV....did anyone here watch the Steelers/Jaguars game last night??? OMGOODNESS!!! WHAT A GAME!!!! I thought I'd have a heart attack!! I was very sorry for the outcome...not so 'wild' about those Jaguars!

Spent a good deal of time wondering about Green Bay y'day, zooooming EVERYWHERE...:/ Finally, I heard the sports guy from Sacramento talking about them playing Seahawks NEXT week!!! My dear Fren from WA will be rooting for those 'Hawks'...but my heart will be with Favre and his boys....I'm really hoping for Brett to take those boys to the Super Bowl and WINNNNN!:) Since my 'Niners' are seemingly 'stuck' in a 're-building' ruttttttt:/

Years ago, a friend, a fellow Forty-Niners Fan..taught me if the Niners aren't in the Super Bowl, we call it a 'Toilet Bowl'....:) I have stuck with that ever since!! HOWEVER:) If Green Bay gets there this time, I'll be callin' it by it's RIGHT TITLE:)

We PROBABLY should keep these discussions going. It would show that these two bills (S 311 and H.R. 503) are in the forefront of people's interest. I CAN'T blue link them both in one post, but I have them on my blogspot. JUST CLICK ON MY NAME AT THE BOTTOM OF MY POST.

Margie...I think they still are good frens:) Seems that way at least when they are together for fleeting moments on the fields...Last night, as I was zooming around here so HAPPY to have lights!! I saw Mike Holmgren on my way past the TV and for a split-second thought...OH!!! Here's the Green Bay game!!!...I guess I'll always think of the Packers first when I see him, 'cause during his tenure as their Coach, is when I got interested in them as a team:)

Barb, AZ:) I went to the website last night and voted for BOTH S 311 and HR 503 and left comments at both sites!! :) So MANY FOB's there:)

Happy Sunday to all!

I hope our West Coast/western mountain frens are all safe. Prayers for those in the path of the levee break.

Mother Nature is trying to make a point.

Just caught up from yesterday's posts. Catherine Owen and the SC FOBs, you rock! Ride forth and conquer!

Tamme, I'm very interested in something you mentioned yesterday. Could you please email me off-site? Go to the forum and look for SusanE830 and email me from there.

Kate, I will keep you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers.

Joan, so good to see you back! I hope you kick this soon.

Nancy in CT, worried about you and hoping you're getting better.

It's 66 degrees and climbing, here in St. Louis, with humidity to match. The felinistas are making the most of the open windows, but methinks a tornado watch or other severe weather is in the offing--we actually get quite a few winter tornadoes here. Two years ago a little F1 pounced on a WalMart a few miles away, and made off with a fence.

Back to work. Later!

THESE HORSES ARE NOT SAFE UNTIL THE OWNER HAS THE PAYMENT IN HAND.

if y'all would, please help me spread the news:

I'm working on an idea for a future project, and have come to the notion that the place to start is by having an album featuring drawings/poetry by kids.

Here's what I want: original pieces or verses by any child who would like to participate (one submission per child, please). I will scan these pieces at high resolution and return the images if they say, "hey, I want this back!". I can work with paper up to 11"x14" for this.
Then I'll upload them to a Kidding Around album and send a link to each participant.

So I will need obviously the images/verses, the child's first name, age and state or country and a title/caption-this can be a sentence or two describing the item and/or why they chose that creature, or just how they feel about their work.
Parents, please provide your email address for contact purposes. Absolutely no contact information will be shared with any other party.

So, whether its horses or panda bears or butterflies or snakes, a collage, drawing, painting, or prose, would you help me get the word out? I eventually hope to incorporate the drawings/poetry into something on paper- but that's not going to be immediate.

feel free to contact me at: txjest@gmail.com if you have questions, concerns, or someone you would like me to send this information to.
Thanks!

These have been up for a few days but the links were deep within some older threads - so - in keeping with my persona - wanted to share with you MARY L's first 2 TRIBUTE VIDEOS for the critters of the FOB's who left this Great Green Earth in 2007.

For your entertainment and enlightenment - and be sure to bring the kleenex - here are links to the first 2 of the Tribute Videos that Mary L (with Melody) has lovingly and painstakingly prepared for us:

FOB furbabies:

Personal/Other Horses:

pls see following post of mine - it won't post with both in one.

I haven't watched the horse one yet, but the furbabies one really did me in.

Enjoy and remember . . . .

(We still have two more to look forward to - one for Rescue Horses and one for Race Horses.)

Sandra...Everything I've read or seen about Barbaro told me that he LOVED:) the CROWDS...:) He even looked into the stands at KD 132 on his way to the finish line....I read that somewhere...he was a real 'HAM' for EVERYONE'S cameras...and I believe in my heart he was a real 'PEEPLES' HORSEY:)

Maybe that afternoon, as they were pulling away from Pimlico....he was looking at everyone and saying, "I've done what I was put here to do...follow me on my journey now...and when I'm 'really' gone....be sure to 'keep on keepin' on'...Always remember me and be my VOICE" :)

STRATEGY FOR MONDAY JANUARY 7

It’s great to see everyone getting back in the groove with renewed determination to succeed. This will probably be the first full week back to work for many in DC and we must let them know that we are STILL HERE!

Our voices are being heard and the support is growing. We should all be very proud of our accomplishments. Today, there are no slaughter houses operating in this country, awareness has been heightened and, because of you, many thousands of horses have been saved. We are beginning 2008 with 191 cosponsors in the House and 38 cosponsors in the Senate. Some of the big, time consuming issues like the Farm Bill are out of the way. There will now be time for other issues to be addressed when Congress returns later this month.

The strategy will remain the same until Congress comes back or until we are told otherwise. We will keep the pressure on the leadership to get S311 put on the calendar quickly or to support any legislation that contains language to end horse slaughter and the transportation of American horses to slaughter.

Senate Majority Leader: Harry Reid ph: 202-2224-3542 fax: 202-224-7327

Senate Minority Leader: Mitch McConnell ph: 202-224-2541 fax: 202-224-2499

Senate President Pro Tempore Robert S. Byrd ph: 202 224-3954 fax: 202-228-0002

Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin ph: 202-224-2152 fax: 202-228-0400

Assistant Minority Leader Jon Kyl Ph: 224-4521 Fax: 202-224-2207

A huge thanks to the state groups who have been relentless in their efforts! As we move forward in 2008, let us keep the faith and never forget what brought us all together.

We are BARBARO's VOICE.....let it be heard!!

I think you forget that the slaughter houses pay the workers that work there AND pay the taxes that are required for the workers. Additionally horse slaughter is a 14 million dollar a year industry in the USA that just walked out of the country.

We still need $900 to buy and transport 10 mares and a stud colt in Central Illinois. We need to pay AWI back, so they can use their funds to lobby Washington. Every donation now helps to get S.311 and HR 503 passed. We owe it to the horses to foot this bill. Let's do it for them and for Barbaro's Legacy. NO MORE HORSE SLAUGHTER. Let's pay AWI back!

Maribel,

There have been several concerns raised about the phrase "and for any other purpose." If you read the bill the way it was was meant to be written, "equines to be slaughtered for human consumption, and for other purposes" it makes sense. Some people opposed to the bill have assumed that "the other purposes" refers to shipping and transporting.

Here is the whole phrase, and it can be misleading:

"A bill to amend the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption, and for other purposes."

The "other purposes" clearly refers to the slaughter, not the transport. I think there are still some folks arguing over it.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it ! (LOL)

Good night, all. Good night, Barbaro. Good night, all you wonderful horses who make us smile, who make us happy and content. Good night, all you wonderful animals who cuddle up with us at night. Good night, MOON ! ! !

BarbAZ

The for other purposes is just a way of ruling out ALL other reasons for slaughtering such as Zoos etc. It's just making it perfectly clear that slaughter for ANY REASON PURPOSE is not acceptable!!! That's my translation...it's to stop ALL slaughter of horses for any reason!!!

Goodnight ALL...Barbaro THANK YOU for bringing all these issues to the forefront!!! I LOVE YOU BBH !!!!

Good Monday Morning FOBs,

Here we are at the start of another week. I don't remember if Congress is returning today or not, but regardless - the aides are there answering the phones, so let's make sure they hear from us.

My prayers for all FOBs and those they love.

Good morning everyone!
There's a good article in the Wall Street Journal regarding baby boomers, horses, horse neglect/abuse and it focuses on a rescue. It's well done and includes a video.

The only iffy part of the article was blame being put on animal lovers for closing down the slaughter plants. The writer of the article has her email at the bottom of it... :)

Perhaps she needs to be educated?
