Barbaro Updates: 448

updates are now here.

Update 2807: Steve Haskin survey's the 2yo performances over the holiday weekend: Ky. Derby Trail: Go East, Young Man.

Update 2806: Tim's latest winner, Veiled Reference, which was a little earlier this month. She was impressive moving by horses: just how we roll.

Update 2805: Another lovely morning at Sam Houston Race Park this morning. We had eight sets, six of mine went to the gate, four of them galloped out of the gate. Three of those galloped out very sharply, the fourth just stood there for a while despite my urging. Kind of funny really! All in all a good morning, with plenty of Packers banter ahead of tonight's game. It turns out Brett Favre has a cousin who trains a few horses and runs a few here, perhaps I will get to meet him.

Update 2804: California is also considering a policy on Anabolic Steriods ahead of the 2008 Breeders' Cup: CHRB to Tackle Steroid-Free Cup.

Each year the American Graded Stakes committee reviews Stakes and determines Stakes that should receive higher and lower grades. Here is the result of this year's review: Graded Stakes Announced for 2008.

Keep calling.

#### To Laurie H.: Thanks for the update about Bart, he's been in my thoughts. Did you bring him some Thanskgiving turkey? And how is Ms. Montego?

Morning skritches to the BBH, Sir JH, G.G. and all of the rest of the crew in Equine Heaven. Hey, that Sirrus is pretty well informed when it comes to cushion track drainage, isn't he...?

Meanwhile, down below:

MORNING POST, SHELLEYA, DEBRA, WI

Strategy for Thursday November 29

Inside Edition did an excellent job of educating the public about the horror of horse slaughter. We must jump on this opportunity and make sure our legislators see this story. It is also a good time to send it to all CBS networks and see if we can get any of them to pick up the story. Details on how to do this will be posted on the Discussion Board under thread called MEDIA BLITZ.

We must still call the people we’ve been asked to target because they will make the difference in whether we have enough support to pass the bill. Letters of support from senators who would rather not cosponsor but will vote for our legislation, have been requested. They should be sent to Senator Landrieu’s office.

Remember….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who is not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico.

Those who voted in support of the Ensign-Byrd Amendment Senate (2005) but have not yet cosponsored the bills

Sick of the use of drugs in sports. Steroids are drugs, when will these people learn. Americans already live on so many drugs, it is unbelievable. To give drugs to innocent animals blows my mind. Love to Barbaro. Thanks Alex

SICKO's

"Abandoned" & "Neglected" Horses = Planted Proslaughter Propaganda

It would appear the slaughterhouse/commonhorsesense.org PR firm is at it again. As we learned earlier this year following a report out of Kentucky of abandoned horses, the slaughterhouses will stop at nothing to mislead the public. Several articles have shown up recently in out of the way papers by local reporters making similar claims. We have been informed that these articles are slaughterhouse planted articles. There has been no increase of abandoned horses.

Please, make sure to spread the word that these articles are just more propaganda from the slaughterhouses and their pro-horse slaughter cohorts. It is a shame to see such a serious issue maligned by those profiting from this cruelty. If they were actually aware of abandonment they should report these lawbreakers not try to offer them a way to make $200.

The article on the DB about how misinformed Congress is about horse slaughter and about the Vets for Equine Welfare's visit to D.C. is a little discouraging -- despite all our calls, letters, faxes -- Congress continues to give credibility to the pro-slaughter misinformation. I am sending this article to every Congressman I can think of -- I'll be faxing it over all day today.

I asked Butch if he had a van on the lot that I could buy for $756.81--the total damage.

Ah well....so it goes.

Love to all. I am here calling and gnashing my teeth about what Joe and Cathy have to put up with EVERYDAY. Like I say, there is a special place in hell for the kill buyers--and for the ones who wield the knives in Mexico.

I still want to know how Joe gets those archangel wings tucked up under his barn coats, etc.

There is a thread on the DB about a guy selling Barbaro decals on e-Bay. I e-mailed him earlier today to see if he had the Jackson's permission and have posted his response on the DB thread. He says he has a "family friend" of the Jackson's working on it, but I'd feel better if he already HAD the permission or was donating to UPenn/Laminitis. Did anybody else contact this seller and if so, did you get a response?

###
Can someone confirm whether or not the rumor of the Senate vote is truth??? Oh, if it was true...I'd put the TV on C-SPAN for that vote and glue myself to it. Remember when we crashed the site during the House vote????

I don't know if this has been posted before -- the American Quarterhorse Association has alerted its members about S311 and is asking them to call to OPPOSE this bill on Monday. We NEED to have the louder voice. This information was posted on the DB by MaryLOhio (thank you!). I've asked my State Group to be especially vigilant on Monday about getting through to our legislators.

Here's the Alert sent to their membership:

AQHA ACTION ALERT - SENATE BILL 311

Dear AQHA Member:

TRANSPORTING ANY HORSE FOR ANY ACTIVITY MAY BE AT RISK!
Senator Mary Landrieu (D)-Louisiana, has succeeded in scheduling Senate Bill 311 for a floor vote. You may recall this bill reads “To amend the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption, and for other purposes.
Senator Landrieu has offered the following amendment to this bill:
Section 3 of the Horse Protection Act (15 U.S.C. 1822) is amended to add the following:

`(1) horses and other equines play a vital role in the collective experience of the United States and deserve protection and compassion;
`(2) horses and other equines are domestic animals that are used primarily for recreation, pleasure, and sport;
`(3) unlike cows, pigs, and many other animals, horses and other equines are not raised for the purpose of being slaughtered for human consumption;
`(4) individuals selling horses or other equines at auctions are seldom aware that the animals may be bought for the purpose of being slaughtered for human consumption;
`(5) the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the Department of Agriculture has found that horses and other equines cannot be safely and humanely transported in double deck trailers;'; and
(3) by striking paragraph (8) (as redesignated by paragraph (1)) and inserting the following:
`(8) the movement, showing, exhibition, or sale of sore horses in intrastate commerce, and the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation in intrastate commerce of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption, adversely affect and burden interstate and foreign commerce;'.

(c) Prohibition- Section 5 of the Horse Protection Act (15 U.S.C. 1824) is amended--

(1) by redesignating paragraphs (8) through (11) as paragraphs (9) through (12), respectively; and
(2) by inserting after paragraph 7 the following:
`(8) The shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of any horse or other equine to be slaughtered for human consumption.'.

(d) Authority To Detain- Section 6(e) of the Horse Protection Act (15 U.S.C. 1825(e)) is amended--

(1) by striking the first sentence of paragraph (1);
(2) by redesignating paragraphs (1) and (2) and as paragraphs (2) and (3), respectively; and
(3) by inserting before paragraph (2) (as redesignated by paragraph (2)) the following:

`(1) The Secretary may detain for examination, testing, or the taking of evidence--

`(A) any horse at any horse show, horse exhibition, or horse sale or auction that is sore or that the Secretary has probable cause to believe is sore; and
`(B) any horse or other equine that the Secretary has probable cause to believe is being shipped, transported, moved, delivered, received, possessed, purchased, sold, or donated in violation of section 5(8).'.

(e) Authorization of Appropriations- Section 12 of the Horse Protection Act (15 U.S.C. 1831) is amended by striking `$500,000' and inserting `$5,000,000'.
This bill may have far-reaching effects on our members and their ability to buy and sell horses. Members may sell horses unaware of the buyer's intent with the animal and to where it may be transported, possibly resulting in legal ramifications for the seller. This legislation is vague and ambiguous and its passage could have far-reaching consequences. We urge you to contact the senators of your state and voice your opposition to this legislation and the funding to enact it. To contact your senator, telephone (202) 224-3121 and ask to be transferred to your senators' offices. When speaking with your Senators' office, please tell them you are opposed to Senate Bill 311 as written.
Congress resumes business on Monday, December 3rd. Please do your part and call on Monday!

reposting mine from last batch of Comments

I'm extremely unhappy with the quote from the vet at New Holland, quoted by Inside Edition, that HS is "a necessary evil." Suggest we include link to VEW site

www.vetsforequinewelfare.org

and VEW Press Release dated 10/9

http://www.vetsforequinewelfare.org/avma_stop.php

along with the IE link when we do the Media Blitz.

That's what I am doing. Do NOT want to send the IE piece "as is" without detracting from that "necessary evil" crapola. The VEW link does the trick. FROM OTHER VETS. I think this is VERY IMPORTANT, IMO.

###Jonnagrey,
Two years ago I had my 94 Ford Aspire in for a new fuel pump. (185,000 miles at that time). It took 6 months to get the pump. The gal at the desk got annoyed at my calls. One day she said, "Why don't you get rid of that thing". I called the owner. The gal was fired. I didn't want that to happen. That car is more valuable to me than a Mercedes 2 seater. The pump was the only major repair in its entire life. Car still runs. Still get 41 mpg. Starts up everytime. And pulls me in and out of the 650' deep Rio Grande Gorge 2 times a day, 5 days a week. It is approaching 220,000 miles.

This car cost $8000 when I bought it new. I love challenging this throw away society of ours. Don't you? My other one is a tank. 91 Montero. Everywhere I go in it, men stop me and ask if it's for sale. It is truly a jungle cruiser. But it looks great.

OK. I'm waiting for news of S311.

Vets stunned at horse slaughter misinformation
November 29, 2007

This image from the VEW website shows a horse involved in the Texarkana Horse Transport Cruelty Case in 2006 (picture © Dixie Wilson/ARTEX). The story is outlined here.

This picture is of a horse at a livestock auction in Pennsylvania.
Veterinarians for Equine Welfare (VEW) was created by a group of veterinarians from all disciplines who are concerned about misinformation being transmitted to the public regarding the national debate on horse slaughter.
Members of Veterinarians for Equine Welfare (VEW) traveled to Washington, DC recently to meet with Members of Congress in support a ban on horse slaughter were taken aback by the apparent spread of misinformation on the issue.

"It is astonishing that opponents of a ban on horse slaughter have spread absolute mistruths about horse slaughter to Members of Congress and their staff. From the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA) claim that ending horse slaughter will result in increased animal cruelty to the fantastic notion that horse slaughter provides a humane end for 'unwanted' horses, there is no data to support such positions - quite the opposite. This campaign of misinformation is contributing to the continued suffering of tens of thousands of American horses and as a veterinarian I object," said Dr. Nicholas Dodman.
Dr. Dodman and his group, Veterinarians for Equine Welfare (VEW), support passage of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S. 311/H.R. 503), as does the majority of Americans and large sectors of the equestrian and veterinary world. The bill would prohibit the slaughter of horses here for human consumption abroad as well as their export for the same purpose.
While the slaughter of horses on US soil came to a halt earlier this year there has been an increase in the export of horses to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. Recent reports revealed that horses going to slaughter in Mexico are routinely stabbed to death with a "puntilla" knife and bled out while still fully conscious.
"The AVMA is part of a coalition misleadingly called the Horse Welfare Coalition," stated veterinarian Dr. Nena Winand, another founding member of VEW who went to Washington, DC.
"The coalition isn't about horse welfare, not a single welfare organization is involved. It's about making money at the expense of our horses and its members include many agribusiness trade industry groups like the American Meat Institute and the Kansas Pork Association," she said.
"In fact, the coalition's associated website, commonhorsesense.com, was originally purchased by a lawyer for two of the domestic horse slaughter plants and counts among its spokespeople Charlie Stenholm, former Member of Congress and current lobbyist for the slaughterhouses.
"While the AVMA and others decry the export of American horses to Mexico for slaughter they are partnering with the very companies that are actively buying and shipping horses to Mexican slaughter plants."
"It is absolutely disingenuous for anyone to oppose the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act in the name of animal welfare," Dodman said.
"Anyone who looks at this issue with a clear mind and open eyes can see that horse slaughter is cruel, through and through. I don't care if it happens here or in Mexico - it's cruel either way.
"Let's face it. Horse slaughter only exists because the industry makes money from it by supplying gourmet markets in Europe and Asia. We are working to set the record straight on Capitol Hill and to be part of the solution, not the problem."
More than 100,000 horses were slaughtered in the US last year at three foreign-owned slaughterhouses. Tens of thousands more were exported for slaughter abroad. The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act would end the practice of slaughtering American horses for human consumption abroad. The bill (S.311/H.R. 503) currently has 37 cosponsors in the Senate and 188 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I agree, CJ. Did you ever read the oath vets take? The idiot comment that vet made flies in the face of what they are supposed to do.

BTW - I am in true admiration of the people at vets for equine welfare. And I truly appreciate the books of Nicholas Dodman, DVM. (one of the founders of that group).

Dear Lord, please carry S311 through, and help us stop the unearthly suffering of our horses.

Posted by: Debbie L.A. at November 29, 2007 5:57 PM

I wrote a letter to the AVMA a few days ago. Asked them why they weren't more compelled to get involved with the inhumane loading and transport of horses to slaughter, and why they didn't get much more involved with those 'plants'. And I said a few more things. The crux of the letter was centered on irresponsibility. And I asked them why they let this continue.

I am still waiting for a reply.

I received an e-mail from Senator Landrieu's aide this morning about a couple things we are working on. She did not mention anything about a circulating rumor, and please everyone, it's a rumor, that S. 311 will be on the floor Monday. I returned her e-mail for an update and will wait to hear.
Remember, it's politics and rumors are part of the game.

Elizabeth Thompson - glad you are here.

Posted by: C. Jaffe at November 29, 2007 6:15 PM

I've got a few good rumors of my own concerning this whole issue, believe me. Some of them are far less than savory. At any rate, as far as the Senate moving off their well-endowed rear-ends, I'll believe it when I see it. Can you detect a little cynical bent to my tone?

Posted by: Elizabeth Thompson at November 29, 2007 6:19 PM

A few days ago someone posted they had talked with Senator Obama's office and that they were told the senator sent a letter of support to Senator Landrieu saying Obama wouldn't co-sponsor but did send a letter of support.

I just talked with the ag aide I've been working with and he said they had not sent a letter of support. He said the senator's position has not changed and he still supports the bill.

He also said his office has been receiving calls in support of the bill and many have asked that the senator send a letter of support to Senator Landrieu!

We need to keep this up, call and e-mail requesting either co-sponsorship, mentioning that Senator Durbin is a co-sponsor, or at least send a letter of support to Senator Landrieu's office!

Extra Thurs. 11/29 National Target List (HAHS)

PREFACE/Heads-Up

Per Daryl Smoliak's feedback/ request: Ask the Senators who may support (plan to vote for) S 311 but don't want to cosponsor, to send a brief "letter of support" to Senator Mary Landrieu, sponsor and promoter of the Bill.

Here's something to add to ALL your contacts please - and the 800 numbers for your convenience on all calls.

IMO - convey the website www.vetsforequinewelfare.org to all your contacts (INCLUDING MEDIA BLITZ) - ask them to look at Press Release dated 10/9 at the VEW site; here's the direct link to the PR:

http://www.vetsforequinewelfare.org/avma_stop.php

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

800-828-0498

800-459-1887

800-614-2803

You know the drill - don't address this list until AFTER you have followed today's ABR Strategy - INCLUDING TODAY's MEDIA BLITZ - and the instructions of your Group Leader (and if you don't have one, get one, or become one!) - contact our intrepid State Group co-ordinator, Stephanie Breaux sbreaux1@verizon.net

AND use the CURRENT/NEW Talking Points from ABR Strategy when contacting this extra HAHS list as well as when contacting the ABR daily lists of Senators: (NOTE NEW SUGGESTION/ CAVEAT FROM ABR STRATEGY, JUST BEFORE Prior HS History above the LIST OF REPRESENTATIVES below.)

1. Let [the legislators] know that two of the slaughter houses in this country are closed permanently [since January], and the third (Cavel) has lost their appeal and [is now also closed]. It is URGENT that we now get this legislation passed to STOP THE TRANSPORT of horses to Canada and Mexico. It's VERY important that you stress the cruel and inhumane way these horses are transported. Now is the time to focus on the fact that closing down our slaughter houses is NOT enough but that we must pass this FEDERAL legislation to stop the transport of American horses for slaughter.

2. Let your Senators know that we NEED them as co-sponsors for S311 to get this on the calendar and to the floor for a vote.

3. Tell your Congressman that we need their cosponsorship for HR503 to get this bill out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

4. Dispel the "unwanted" horse theory. Read John Holland's information for more talking points.

5. Closing of all three slaughter houses in the United States helps to reinforce our efforts. We can now dispel the idea that American jobs will be lost due to the end of slaughter. Only Mexico and Canada will now profit from OUR horses being slaughtered!! This is a very important point and one that you should all make when talking to your legislators.

Rhetorial Question Du Jour:

ANY EXTRA TIME/ENERGY/PASSION FOR THE HORSES?
Here is today's (Thursday 11/29) extra National Target List from HAHS (Humanity Against Horse Slaughter). These legislators are targeted by other groups on specific days, so our voices add to the impact.

Don't forget to mention S 311 to the Senators and HR 503 to the Representatives; ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the current/new ABR Strategy (posted above), reasons why to support the end of horse slaughter and export for slaughter NOW.

Changed Circumstances call for a Fresh Look with an Open Mind.

The closure of Cavel is a HUGE changed circumstance.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the ongoing ABR national strategy "...[I]t is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message."

adding this CAVEAT from recent ABR Strategy:

"Remember…….these calls are to gain co-sponsors and support for HR503 and S311. As difficult as it is, please concentrate on the transport of the horses to slaughter more than the conditions in Mexico. We can’t let anyone who in not well informed come to the conclusion that it would be better to have the plants in this country because of the conditions in Mexico."

PRIOR HS HISTORY - ALL the Reps. on this list cosponsored HR 503 last time; and ALL these Reps voted YES on HR 503 last session. All voted YES on HR 249 earlier this session, EXCEPT Rep. Regula (Ohio) who voted NO (noted below).

In addition to using the ABR Strategy spiel posted above - IMO -

THANK them all for voting YES on HR 503 last session, and remind them that the Bill passed in the House but was never enacted because the Senate counterpart Bill (S 1915) died in a Senate Committee last year - and so the Slaughter/Export Ban needs to be enacted THIS session.

THANK them all (EXCEPT REP. REGULA of OH) for having voted YES on HR 249 earlier this session; remind them that this protects ONLY wild equines, and we still need HR 503 for the rest of them and to end export.

THANK them all for having cosponsored HR 503 last year - chide them (respectfully), why not now? Remind them that with the export situation as it now is (with the closure of ALL HS plants within the US) the need to cosponsor is even GREATER now than it was last year.

He makes it sound like it's nothing, fatten them up and send them across the borders. Make that money and it is big money we are fighting. Think about this a horse weight around 1000 LB’s at the auctions they cost .40 a LB’s on the hoof. $400.00 to buy that horse. But horse meat sales around $20.00 a LB overseas that’s $20,000. Unbelievable! Like Joe said the KB’s are laughing all the way to the bank.

Debbie L.A. and Lynda,
We have a new gelding who is very emaciated 300 pounds under weight. The sweet boy will be well feed, loved and cared for until he is adopted by a good family. If not he still gets royal treatment.

I would love to have it out with that ba*%(#@. That made sick.

CBS networks and see if we can get any of them to pick up the story. Are we going to do this each day? Not that it takes much time but I have MEDIA BLITZ for two days in a row now. I don't like what the vet has to say. But if that is what you wish I am on it! And I didn't send it to the senators and congress for what the vet said! Slaughter is a necessary evil! That plays right to my senators and Jo Bonner.

Posted by: Debbie L.A. at November 29, 2007 1:24 AM

It's for this reason that I am adding the VEW info along with the IE link when doing the Media Blitz.

I'm extremely unhappy with the quote from the vet at New Holland, quoted by Inside Edition, that HS is "a necessary evil." Suggest we include link to VEW site vetsforequinewelfare.org and VEW PR dated 10/9

http://www.vetsforequinewelfare.org/avma_stop.php

along with the IE link when we do the Media Blitz.

That's what I am doing. Do NOT want to send the IE piece "as is" without detracting from that "necessary evil" crapola. The VEW link does the trick. FROM OTHER VETS. I think this is VERY IMPORTANT, IMO.

We have too stop over breeding-whether it be horses or dogs or cats. I used to show Labrador Retrivers and one time I let a champon have a litter of pups. Mst of them were sold before they were born. The others I tried my best to send them to good caring homes (told them I would at anytime take them back if it didnt work out). 90% of the homes were good and about 10% turned out to prove me wrong. Then I couldnt find them -I checked on them for a couple of years. After her first litter I had her spayed which ended her show career. cant show a dog that has been spayed or neutered in the show ring. so I retired from showing. It is a big problem and getting worse. Overbreeding has to stop no matter what kind of animal it is. well, didnt mean to go on a tirade here. I just feel all animal owners have a ife time responsibility for caring for the animals they bring into this world. well, you all know this already. ###I live in AQHA country and they are powerful. we have to beat them. even if our fingers get paralized and we lose our voices.

Hi All: I have a couple of questions.

1. Is there a list of legitimate horse rescues? The reason I am asking is my husband donates to one and I want to make sure it's legit.

2. Is there any way of finding out if a veterenarian is part of the VEW? I went on the website but I only saw a few vets on the list.

Thanks all and have a great night.

Posted by: lorraine, staten island NY at November 29, 2007 11:42 PM

lorraine, I am sure there are plenty of lists. i just published the TCA list on the wiki (they scrutinize thoroughbred rescues): http://alexbrownracing.com/wiki/index.php/TCA_grants

we also have a list of rescues who have worked with FOBs: http://alexbrownracing.com/wiki/index.php/Horse_rescue#Horse_Rescue_Organizations

personally I would suggest supporting a local rescue you can visit.

UNKLEALEXBROWN2TALL2BAJOCKEY...enjoy the game tonight! Even though I'm a Cowboys fan, may the best team win - I am anticipating a fantastic game!

Posted by: Nancy in CT at November 30, 2007 12:29 AM

Good evening, fellow Fans!

Today's list has heard from Maine, so once again I can sleep guilt-free. However, I am bummed to find that I cannot watch tonight's football game, being one of the many households served by Time Warner, who refuses to ante up for NFL Network. However, the S.O. is even more bummed and may desert me for the closest bar with a dish! Ah, well...there will be more games and I admit to not being even an average football fan. Still, this has the makings of a good one.

Alex - really enjoyed Veiled Reference's race. What a game girl she is! I loved watching her blow by the boys. And I see Redaspen is entered in a stakes race at Calder on Saturday, so she must have recovered from whatever was ailing her.

Paryers and good wishes to all in need.

TEXAS HORSE TALK

Hi, Lorraine

My DH has been involved in the VEW Assoc for some time now, and to date, it is anonymous. Not to be subversive, but because they're not focusing on that area of the organization right at the moment, as it is REAL grassroots, and because the task at hand is so important and time consuming. For that matter, it's kind of like us. We know who we are and that's pretty much it, with the exception of a few like Daryl and those who are really out there, as they say.

Funny thing is, many don't even KNOW about VEW yet. They're opposed to the AVMA position, but they aren't aware there is a real organization in the works that opposes the AVMA stance and wants the Senate and the AVMA to know it. It's a perfect opportunity to get vets involved and ask them to support VEW.

How's my favrit Coby boy? :)

Hiya, FsOB! I'm going to see if I can find anything out about Monday by checking on the Congressional Web site later tonight. I just read that ghastly notice that Debbie L.A. found which I think was written by someone associated with "Billings Livestock". Egads, why don't those amoral individuals see that they're endorsing a very slippery moral slope - and all in the name of greed! Using their logic, why aren't they rounding up stray dogs and cats and selling them to people in Asia who eat canines and felines? And there's probably still cannibals somewhere on earth - when will the Billings Livestock folks ask to begin sending them 'dispossessed people'? People who manifest such greed are a disgrace to our country's reputation in the world. Is nothing sacred? Is nothing of our own worth protection? Is everything in America for sale? Geez, I need to go upstairs and consider a 2nd glass of red wine before I go off on a "Julia Sugarbaker" type rant. Mea culpa! RMH

#### To Harriettte, thinking of you as your grieve for your friend's passing.
To Renee: Yes, it was definitely a 'brrr' morning here along the coastal section of eastern CT.
To Jonnagrey: Congrats on the arrival of your home computer. The librarians will be missing you, it sounds like they were very kind.
To Lyn G.: I hope that little Kat's pneumonia resolves quickly. It breaks my heart to think of a little girl with special health care needs having to deal with chemo.
To Lou Ann: Nikita asked me to tell Tante Lou Ann thanks for her kind wishes. I need to go upstairs and brush her tonight with "the Furminator". Her Winter coat is really coming in and my late Grandfather George (whose ancestry was Cherokee) would say, "It's going to be a bad Winter, based on the coat that she's getting in."
She was baying along with a Three Tenors rerun on PBS last Saturday. Kita has never done that before and it was a total scream! I wish we could've filmed it. ####

LYNNE BROWN - does this mean I'm on your s*** list now? I certainly hope not...

Actually I started out way back in high school as a NY Giants fan, which makes more sense geographically, but my son has been a loyal Cowboy fanatic since he was 6 or 7 years old (through good times and very bad), and I've sort of "adopted" the Cowboys as my team....HATE the (also geographically sensible) Patriots!

Please, please forgive me - I DID fax every single Senator this week!!

And rumor has it that Sally, formerly of Key West and now of Pahrump, is also a Cowboys fan!

I think UnkleAlexBrown2tall2bajockey is NOT very happy right now...

Hi Kathy S.,

Bart is something else!

One of my co-workers suffered the loss of a brother last Wednesday, a very tragic accident.

This co-worker, Tom, has always teased me about my love of Bart so Bart and I have decided to use this to Tom's advantage.

I have been exaggerating my sweet talk to Bart and hanging on the "Oh HU-neys" and giving him extra hugs and Kathy pats, opening doors and wishing him a nice snack, sweet dreams before naps, etc.

We are so blessed to have Bart with us. Tom is smiling...genuine smiles. He's laughing. He's joining in the fun.

Tom's hurting. He always smiles but yesterday and today they were "real" smiles. Because of Bart.

I gave Bart extra kisses before I left for home tonight. But not for Tom's sake. For mine...and my love for Bart.

Saturday we are expecting 7-8" of snow. I am hoping to get up to the farm to see if Montego will "paint"! Please wish us luck!!

My little 11-year old friend in my life, Morgan, is planning to help. I asked her if she wanted to see if her horse, Kid, would paint her a picture...her face lit up!

I'll be treating Nipper to plenty of goodies on Saturday. He's so cute! When he sees me now, he tosses his head and starts prancing, doing a low neighing sound...and creating memories for me to fall back on.

Thank you for asking Kathy. Thank you.

Good night to you and many sweet dreams...of Barbaro.

LYNNE - I'm sweating it out over here, but the biggest concern is Favre's arm! He has that unbroken string of #? games played, and I still haven't heard about his injury...

Posted by: Nancy in CT at November 30, 2007 4:19 AM

Nancy, last I heard, it is a 'bruised' arm...I just 'tellya' these kind of games could be responsible for me havin' a HEART ATTACK :-0 I had to leave the room for a bit, 'cause 'your' boys are toooooooo close to the end zone and soooooo little time left in the game:/ aaarrrgggghhhhhhhh!!!! :/

I know what you mean about ### of games played, I remember him when he wore 'invisible' braces on his pearly whites:) and I always wanted to bring him home, sit him up on the kitchen counter and feed him PB&J's :) lol!!! He has grown into quite a handsome more 'mature' looking man:)
