Barbaro Updates: 400
updates are now here.
Update 2535: Old time favorite, The Tin Man, returns to the races on Saturday after his most recent second in the Arlington Million: The Tin Man thriving ahead of Clement L. Hirsch, excerpt:
"I think you'd probably see it with more horses if they got to stay around until they're nine," Mandella said on Tuesday. "He's really learned his game and he's a true professional. I attribute that mostly to him being nine years old, and he's just had a lot of time to learn.
"He's just matured to where he knows exactly what he's doing all the time," Mandella continued. "He's very happy with himself and confident and that's a luxury to have that many years with a horse to get to go through that."
Update 2534: The Keeneland meet opens on friday and it opens with mulitple stakes over the first three days: Keeneland opens with dash to Cup and Darley Alcibiades highlights Keeneland's opening day and Strong Alcibiades Field Kicks off Keeneland Racing.
Update 2533: I have really enjoyed my time in racing, and have worked for some great people over the years for sure. Fair Hill was great for me, basically I have been very lucky. And now I have found a job that I cannot imagine being better (I really hope I keep it for the meet!) Today I rode seven horses, all went nicely and it was just a pleasure to be around the horses. One horse I rode had just come in from a farm. He was by far the best ride I had for the morning. Just floated around the polytrack. Very classy. A couple of others I rode are Stakes winners, basically if you don't like a job like this you have to quit horses altogther.
Again three of my sets were before dawn, under the lights. When the fourth set came around you could see the other people and horses better. One site that is becoming familiar is seeing one set of a large string of horses, jogging by. It reminds me of a duck, leading her ducklings on an adventure. I am sure they would not appreciate that characterization, but it is the first thing that comes to mind. Not sure which trainer it is.
After finishing work this morning, I went to get my Kentucky license. On my way back I stopped by Michael Matz's barn. He has three stalls and horses here. Pam is running the operation and Eduardo is also here. They have three runners this weekend which includes a 2yo for the Jackson's. He's a nice looking dude. Anyway, the whose who in racing is here, the meet starts on friday and hopefully it will then be a fun three weeks.
Update 2532: We have another review of last weekend's racing and look forward to the Breeders' Cup, this time from Steve Haskin: Steve Haskin's BC Countdown: Questions and Answers; Winners and Losers, it begins:
Now, that was a super weekend of racing. Whether it was Turfway Park's Polytrack, Santa Anita's Cushion track, or the dirt track at Belmont, this was racing at its best. The races were thrilling, formful, and showcased a good number of the sport's top stars, including most of the big names in the 3-year-old crop, which looks to be one the strongest and most exciting ever.
Today is media blitz day!
