Barbaro Updates: 377

updates are now here.

Update 2415: Steve Haskin looks at the Breeders' Cup Classic and its main contenders: Steve Haskin's BC Countdown: Law of the Land, it begins:

Following another blowout by Lawyer Ron in Saturday's Woodward Stakes (gr. I), we're down to one champion-caliber older horse who looks capable of withstanding this year's 3-year-old juggernaut in the Breeders' Cup Classic Powered by Dodge (gr. I).

Actually, it might be more appropriate to say that it is the 3-year-olds who must withstand Lawyer Ron's one-horse juggernaut.

A wednesday update from Penny at timwoolleyracing.com:

Another beautiful Wednesday at Fair Hill. The weather couldn't be any more perfect for training. Tim just called in with a little report from the barn. Gator Nation has been scratched from Laurel today. He is not 100% sound and we want to take no chances until we figure out why. The two of us were at the barn until 7:30 last night watching him jog up and we just need to make sure he is ok. Gator is not unhappy and I had a hard time holding him while trying to get him to jog for Tim. Carrot man George was by today for some more horse therapy. He said that he could not get to Red Aspen first because Real Lace would not let him pass by without some attention. Obviously they love George. He agreed with me that Red Aspen's eye is looking much better. Chesapeake City Slew went great in company with one of our new arrivals (Paris Night). Tim reports that both went well. I am also happy to report that the handle has been fixed on our water source making our lives much easier. Whip Smart will shortly be on her way to the races (Penn National - 2nd race) with Tim by her side. Hopefully she will have her running shoes on!

P.S. - I took Luke to the porta pad myself this morning and he actually tried to double barrel me as I was walking away. Of course he did'nt mean to connect. He is so cheeky!

Update 2414: Rags to Riches, who has not run since her Belmont Stakes victory, is now being pointed for the Gazelle on September 16: Rags to Riches to Skip Ruffian in Favor of Gazelle, excerpt:

"The Gazelle makes more sense because it gives her another work," Pletcher said. "It really wasn't a hard decision, and I think it is fine. It was nice to have another option, and now it gives us six weeks to the Breeders' Cup, which works." The trainer added that if Rags to Riches had worked on schedule last month, then she would still have been on target for the Ruffian.

"If she hadn't missed that work, she would have been getting really sharp and ready to run," he said.

Rag's older half brother, who had not won a race since his Belmont Stakes win last year, Jazil has now been retired: Jazil Retired to Stud at Shadwell.

Update 2413: Another lovely morning weather-wise at Presque Isle Downs, although it appears to be really warming up again. A change of pace for me this morning in my new job. I rode two and spent most of the rest of the morning hotwalking. Not a bad way to send a few hours for sure. Racing resumes this evening so I plan to return to the track later, it will be fun to be at the races for the first time without having to run a horse.

Update 2412: Santa Anita's new Cushion Track is now open for training: Lava Man christens Santa Anita's Cushion Track, excerpt:

"We vanned him up from Del Mar [Monday] and he seemed real comfortable on it," said trainer Doug O'Neill. "Tony Romero, his regular exercise rider, was on him and kept saying to me, 'Very kind, very kind, patron,' and Lava Man just skipped over it.

"This is truly a historic development for Santa Anita and it's going to be great for the game. It's all about the safety of the horses and credit to the Santa Anita people for putting the safety of the horses first."

Turfway Park opens its meet today, marking the two year anniversary of Synthetic Track racing in America: 'Polytrack Lab' Turfway Has More Data, Answers, excerpt:

"We don't have it all figured out yet, but we're much smarter today," Turfway president Bob Elliston said. "Most every single day, it's an extremely safe racing surface. We had no catastrophic breakdowns this summer (during off-season training), and I think that speaks to delineating what's most important about the surface.

"If anybody is debating the safety of the surface, I think that's all wet."

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is really easy and helps animals in
need. Please pass this information on! The Animal Rescue Site is having
trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota
of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an
animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their
corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate
food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

Hiya, FsOB! May today be the day that the Federal Appellate Court rules to uphold the will of the people of Illinois. Wishing each of you a productive day! Peace, RMH

#### To Kathy in SC: I hope that the check-up for Cooper goes well today.
To Cathy P.: Thinking of you & Clarissa this AM!
To Jan: What an awesome example you have set for your students. You should be most gratified to see your little student emulate your spirit of generosity.
To Laurie H: I hope that the bite from ms. Montego didn't break the skin (forgive me for sounding like a nurse!). Please tell her to behave and please give Mr. Bart a pet for me. ####

Early Morning workout skritches to the BBH and 2007 Triple Halo winner -- and everybody now in training for 2008...!!!

NEW PAGE POST

Strategy for Wednesday September 5

It’s great to see everyone continuing to keep up the push for cosponsors for HR503 and S311. Hopefully, things will pick up very quickly and we will be getting further directions. It’s important that we are READY TO RALLY!!

On August 2, 2007 the House of Representatives approved an amendment to the 2008 Agriculture Appropriations bill that will temporarily bring horse slaughter to a halt by stripping funds from the federally required inspection of slaughter-bound horses. Without the inspections, the slaughter cannot proceed. This amendment must still be considered in the US Senate. This amendment is only a temporary measure while the sponsors work to secure passage of the permanent American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

For this reason, it is important when you make your calls, you request they support and VOTE YES for ANY legislative measure that will ban horse slaughter and export for slaughter. We do not yet know how this will be presented in Congress so this message is very important. In addition to the Daily Call List, please contact your own senators and representative with this message.

List of Senators (Cosponsored S.1915 Last Year) Senators S311

Senator Charles Schumer - NY Phone: 202-224-6542 Fax : 202-228-3027

Many thanks to those of you who visited with your legislators during the month of August. That is bound to make a tremendous difference in our efforts!!
We still need people to be involved with state groups. It has been proven to be the most effective way to get information out quickly when the need arises. If you can help, contact sbreaux1@verizon.net

As you know, pro slaughter people are very organized and are out spreading their message. We MUST be louder!

Remember, WE ARE BARBARO’S VOICE….let it be heard!!
Thanks for everything you do and have a great day!

Good Wednesday morning FOBs

I don't know what it's going to take to get these legislators motivated to follow the will of the American people (regarding horse slaughter), but we have to keep up the pressure until they do the right thing.

My prayers for those who are dealing with difficult situations.

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning FOBS! Got quiet all of a sudden in Saratoga, we miss the FOBs who visited, their happy smiles and love of horses this summer. They are still training at the track.. so the fat lady hasn't totally finished her song, yet.

Amazing how true friendships sprung up because of a horse named Barbaro, and the good people (thanks, Alex) who helped bring his story to the world. Head scratches to all FOB critters, and muzzle smooches to all the horses who need a friend today. We are in it with you, sweet peas, for the long haul. Believe it!

Peace,

Good Morning Family/Fans of Barbaro

New month, new day, new hour, are we ready to burn up the lines, call, fax, email? Are we ready to put some spunk in our Congress and get their attention focused on stopping horse slaughter and transportation across the borders?

If anyone is ready, it is the FOBS!!!! We get it!

Please remember the rescues, our Fallen Angels, the ones suffering human or animal, our wildlife, and of course, our family. We love one another.

There is an urgent need for sponsors for cats at a "gassing" shelter in WV. They desperately need sponsors NOW, if there is any hope at all for saving these precious kitties

Earlier this past weekend, none of the cats had sponsors. Many have now been sponsored and as of last night a few rescue groups had indicated interest in some of those being sponsored.

* * There are still 2 tabby kittens, 1 orange and 1 grey, who are on the URGENT list at the shelter. These 2 babies need to get "bailed" immediately * *

Here is the thread on the forum, Post #1 details instructions on sponsoring:

URGENT - Cats at kill shelter need sponsors.

Thank you so much to anyone who may be able to help them

Good Morning Everyone,
I'm reposting this from last evening. There is one minor edit. I've removed part of the menu ideas because it was pointed out to me that that part of my idea wasn't "appetizing." Thank you all for being family.
Lee

Hi Everybody,

Thought I'd check in and see how we're doing. Looks a little quiet so I guess I'd better get my cheerleading outfit back on. I promise, no high kicks. LOL

We have a great thing going here. We're saving money; getting ideas together; watching a dream become reality. The momentum is building everyday; I can feel it. I can also feel a big bay horse and a lot of his friends pushing us on; as dear Otherlyn would say, "their heartsongs are lifted joyously."

You didn't think you'd get off this easy, without my "personal" pitch did you? LOL Please, if you're not already doing so, consider setting aside $1/week for this effort. It's not much, won't even be noticed; pocket change adds up quickly too (just drop it in a jar/mug/can and before you know it, there's a couple of dollars!). Anyone out there thinking, "One dollar a week? That's only $52 a year. That's not enough to do anything with!"? Do this, mulitply that $52 by 600 (about the number of us that were at DelPark in April). Know that's a number that can do a lot towards building the BB&B/ACN B&B!

Picture this: A family checks in (to the Barbaro Suite of course lol) and settles down. Then they go out to the barn to see the Horses. They walk down a brick path with the names of FsOB who sponsored the walk and the names of Horses, great and not so great, especially Horses saved/rescued by FsOB. They walk past paddocks with rescued Horses in them, and on the planks are names too!

When they enter the barn, they're in a large open area with a ring in the center. The floor is a continuation of the brick path they followed. The first horse brought to the ring is Man in Havana. As close to seeing Barbaro as many of will ever come. After petting and giving him treats, other horses are brought out to be loved and enjoyed, most or all of them rescued from slaughter.

Next, they sign up for a couple of trail rides for the next day. Then they go back to the Inn and get ready for dinner. On the back of each menu there is the story of a rescued Horse.

The next day, while Mom and Dad are riding, the kids learn to clean up after, groom and take care of a Horse. The kids get a riding lesson afterwards. In the evening, the whole family takes a sunset ride.

This is just a dream now. But what a great way to spend a couple of days! What a fantastic way to start a vacation! We can do this, I know we can.

No Horse left behind.

Missing Barbaro-Always in my heart

I never ask for this but if some thoughts and prayers could go out for my daughters best friends dad I'd sure appreciate it. He was diagnosed with Stage IV brain cancer. It doesn't look good at all for him so if it's not too much to ask for a little prayer it would mean so much.

Good morning everbody :)

There is a little 8 month old horse that we saved from the kill buyer for $75. He is getting well at a clinic in Nebraska and is the sweetest, most trusting little guy with kisses and nickers for everyone he meets. I'm sure he is munching on his breakfast, at the clinic, completely unaware of the FOB's mad scramble to pay his vet bill.

If any of you can find it in your heart to help this sweet boy, please donate any amount, however small. Thank You!!

Please send checks directly to: Equine Veterinary Associates, Inc., 1009 E. Stolley Park Road, Grand Island, NE 68801,(They don't take credit cards by phone)--Please put "Buck & C. Reiss" on the check's memo area.

For those who prefer PayPaL, send to: lesbonneschoses@yahoo.com Buck has his own bank account!!!

If you want to read the story of this little sweetheart, just click on the "Help Baby Buck" link in blue.

Here I am, spinning the broken record: CALL, FAX, CALL...we are running out of time and, more importantly, our beloved horses are running out of time! If you are following the political goings-on in DC, there is much that our Congress must deal with before adjournment, and we really need to step up our efforts for sponsors to bring our legislation to the floor - THE FANS OF BARBARO ARE A "CAN-DO" GROUP, never give up, never give in!

My foot was killing me, of course I yelled and was told not to so I wouldn't scare the horse. Yup OK a thousand pound animal is standing on your foot and you are going to smile and say that's ok. Good Morning Famblee

I want to thank you all for your support through this tough time. I don't have the wherewithall to name names because my mind isn't wrapping around reality right now but I read the posts. This is the most incredible famblee and I feel so honored to be a part of it. Clarissa, my beloved Aussie had surgery to remove her speen April 26. The cancer was agressive and has recurred. She doesn't have much time left. We are blessed that she has had 4 really good months. Up until a few days ago she was still playing with her brothers. She even tried last night when I got home from work. She is a fighter to the end. She ate and drank this morning but is very weak. I have no children so my furkids are IT. Clarissa is the leader of the pack in my house and I cannot imagine life without her. Thank you, I love you all.

Wednesday 9/5 - extra nat'l target list (HAHS)

Guess what? Today's HAHS national target list is IDENTICAL to the ABR National Strategy list for today - same 7 Senators - so I am not posting the "usual" extra list here today. I did post it at the DB before I realized the lists are the same today. Only difference is, the extra HAHS list includes DC Office addresses for those who may use snailmail or want to include the addy on a fax. SO - all I am posting here today is the link to the DB thread, a few reminders, and the 800 numbers for your convenience. See you all later!

Don't forget to mention S 311; ask them to cosponsor - and please use the Talking Points from the ABR Strategy.

PLEASE NOTE: Per the national strategy - a HS ban may come up for a vote in the Senate and/or the House that is not a free-standing bill such as HR 503 / S 311. Therefore - and I quote from what Shelley A posted after checking with the powers that be in DC - "we have been asked to continue getting cosponsors but to also ask our legislators to support ANY bill that contains language to stop horse slaughter."

If long distance charges are a problem, use these DC 800 numbers and ask for the legislators by name (or ask for extension, last 5 numbers of each legislator's office phone).

Good morning fellow FOBs. I am sending out a last minute call to all FOBs to sponsor a MO Horse Hero in honor of Mrs. Jackson's birthday September 22nd. Our first formal fundraiser was in December to honor the staff of New Bolton Center. We had almost one hundred FOBs who contributed to the MO Horses in the staff's honor.

Since then we have had a Valentine's Day Fund Raiser, a Michael Matz birthday fundraiser, an Easter, Mother's Day for Mrs. Jackson and Father's Day for Mr. Jackson fundraisers. We have never been below 70 FOBs participating.

I am sad to say that Mrs. Jackson's birthday fundraiser has only 45 FOBs participating and the end date is September 10th. It seems as with all things the interest in keeping Barbaro's legacy alive is waning. I can see it in the comments here, the candles and the rescues. We have become a small group of people carrying on the traditions we started over a year ago.

The MO Horses still need our help. We are going to be featured in a chapter of Alex's book because we were a force to be reckoned with immediately following the accident in MO.and I would like to think we can maintain our strength until 2008.

Please unite with us to keep our promise to Barbaro and help us get five sponsors for each MO Horse Hero.

Here is the breakdown as of today.

Willie (4), Sue (3), Sweetie (6), Gidget (4), Mortie (4), Hocks (5), CC (5), DD (4), Darla (3),
Twister (6), Mama (5), Spirit (4), Stan (6), Karma (4), Liberty (4), Bazonka Donk (4), Cllueless Too (5)

You can also make a general contribution to All the Accident Horses.

Email me at jroe19@adelphia.net for all the information and help us express to Mrs. Jackson that she remains in our hearts on her special day and help those eighteen special resilient souls involved in the trailer accident one year ago.

We have less than a week left until this fundraiser is over.

Thanks to all who continue to support the MO Horse Heroes through Fans of Barbaro.

###cathy potter - I am just reading about what you are going through. I am so sorry - I know the pain of losing one of our fur children feels almost unbearable doesn't it... I wish I had something wise and comforting to say. At times like this there really aren't any words. Please know that many here are holding you and Clarissa in our hearts. Holding you up with the love and compassion we all share for our animals. I pray you both are able to feel God's loving arms around you, and you are comforted.

Thinking of you both -

OUR MO HORSE HEROES

Following up on Rosemary's heartfelt plea for support for the MO Horse Heroes, please consider sponsoring at least one of these dear horses...even $5. per horse would be much appreciated! Pay special attention to Sue and Darla who only have three sponsors each, and to Willie, Gidget, Mortie, DD, Spirit, Karma, Liberty and Bazonka Donk, who only have 4 sponsors each. CAN'T WE AT LEAST PROVIDE EACH HORSE WITH 5 SPONSORS EACH?

from Rosemary: "It seems as with all things the interest in keeping Barbaro's legacy alive is waning. I can see it in the comments here, the candles and the rescues. We have become a small group of people carrying on the traditions we started over a year ago."

I am very sorry to say that I have to agree with her...I truly never expected to see this day come!

Cathy P.

Reading your post has me in tears. I understand canine family members and the impact of their loss. Kaiser (our G. Shepherd) is our child and I, too, couldn't imagine life without him. He's 9 now but still as playful as a puppy.

I join my prayers to those of others for you and Clarissa.

### Cooper Update
Since you all have been kind enough to continue to think of us, I thought I would give you the latest. Hope that is ok.
Coop's on his way home from the vet. I should say that the our small animal vet is a personal friend. Cooper has been on his mind. "The Squeeze" mistakenly thought Cooper was 11-12 years old. Cooper is 7. The vet wrapped his leg today to give it more support. He will go back next Wednesday (Wed is "scheduled surgery" day) and have extensive xrays to find out if the cancer has spread. He feels there is a 90% chance that is has. If it HAS NOT, he will amputate Cooper's leg. He asked how he had been doing limping/hobbling, and he has done great. He feels since he is only 7, and still pretty muscular, he would make a good "tripod". If the cancer has spread, we will let him be for as long as he can kept comfortable. So maybe some good news today.

###Renee Ataya...please e mail me at mypumpkin@alltel.net. We should maybe talk about tripods, although I am afraid of getting my hopes up.

Thanks everybuddy!

Thanks for the reminder Rosemary and Nancy -- I just sent in my donation for the Missouri horses. Let's go, folks! These horses are our legacy.

Let's also make extra calls in Barbaro's memory -- this session will soon be at an end and we need action on the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

Good Morning Fambleeee

thank you, unklealexbrown, for continuing to welcome us into your life. Mine is better for your generousity, as I'm sure is true of this entire fambleee. Am so hoping you'll find your way here to CO, even though our little track closes for the season next weekend. We'll have many horses for you to visit. You'll be most welcome.

###CathyP and Kathy, my heart goes out to you. Our little ones try so hard to stay with us. It's harder to come to terms with the prospect of having to let them go. Wish there's something that I could say or do to make you feel a little less sad and at peace, but having "been there" many times, all I can say is I know that terrible pain and grief, and offer my love and arms across the miles.

For all other famblee members who have had losses, my love and prayers as well. Belated birthday wishes for those that I've missed.

Have been immersed in a monumental house relocation and career issues that have been enormously time consuming. But my first task in the morning continues to be making calls, and thanks to Debra and ShelleyA for having posting the strategy for the day in the very early hours. Thanks to my CO sisters for the daily messages for the daily strategies as well. No matter what takes place, the horses' welfare will always be a priority.

Will check in later. Love to all

Posted by: Cheryl at September 5, 2007 6:38 PM

I'm not so sure this has become a small group of people...many, many (I'm hoping) check the site and read the comments and DB everyday. I know I do. I can't always post in the comments from work, and can only read the DB from work. I have horses to care for at night so don't get in the house until 10 (too late to get on the DB). But, I'm here each and every day. Still working to end slaughter.

A person from a horse rescue emailed me that one of Charlie Carter's trucks started to overturn in the mud while waiting in line at Cavel a couple of weeks ago. Several horses were severly injured as a result. All they did was get the truck righted and put it at the front of the line so the horses would be slaughtered quicker.
We can't quit until this country and our leaders understand that morality matters and this is a very immoral, indecent, hideous, horrible, evil, inhumane business wrought with illegalities. Nobody is standing up for the horses except us.

I hope all of Barbaro's famblee is still here...

Rosemary and Nancy and all..from someone who doesn't post much...

Still here! Still committed! Still donating! Still calling!

Thank you for keeping up the efforts for the MO Horse Heroes. I have been able and happy to contribute several times for these horses who represent one small triumph over the forces continuing the slaughter in America.

My feeling is that the interest in keeping Barbaro's legacy is definitely alive and well. It has just spread out. There are so many, many different things going on as a result of his life. I know that it is almost impossible to keep up with things on this board. But my belief is that more FOBs than we know still find a way to give of their time, effort, calls, money, prayers, writing and artistic skills, to whatever they feel they can, and whatever they are drawn to.

I hope that your posts for the MO Horse Heroes will again bring some attention to this - as another way to show our high regard and love for Barbaro, for Mrs. Jackson, and our support for ending slaughter and support for those who are helping the horses in need. Thanks to all.

AFTERNOON REPOST

Patty Murray D-WA Phone: 202-224-2621 Fax: 202-224-0238 Aide: Andrew Rowe

Thanks for everything you do and have a great day!

and NOT going away ............
We've become aware of so many needs that, indeed, our focus is in many directions .........
and for that, we must thank our BBH - Barbaro - our Horse of Forever. He opened our eyes .. and asked us to help his frenz ......... There are many in need and many ways to help ..... ......... to check in briefly is a compliment to Barbaro, actually ........ IF we spent so much time posting online .......

ADDED ON EDIT: Feedback re Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of NY (on Weds 9/5 ABR Strategy List & HAHS extra nat'l target list): According to the aide I spoke with - opinion messages rec'd at the Senator's DC office from Non-New Yorkers are NOT tallied; in order to have a non-NY opinion count, we are to call her campaign HQ, NOT the DC Office.

Phone of Campaign HQ is: 703-469-2008

Fax is 703-962-8600

Consider calling or faxing her at her Campaign HQ NOW please. THANKS!

We are hearing from more and more aides (I feel, anyway) that they are not going to tally calls from non-constituents. That's problematic to me. I wonder if they are all getting together and taking this approach. Makes me tempted to buy land in every state so I can be a constituent! Very frustrating.

**** Just called Senator DeMint's office and was told that he would not co-sponsor. There is a limit on how many bills can be co-sponsored by one Senator and he has reached his limit. But he will support the bill when it comes to the floor.

I do not believe there's a limit on how many bills a Senator can co-sponsor -- I think they don't like to co-sponsor TOO many bills, because it then appears that they don't stand for anything. My senator's aide told me that there are SO many bills out there, she just can't co-sponsor all of them. The reason, in my opinion, this argument doesn't work for these Senators in particular is that they felt strongly enough about this legislation to support it last session. All I can think of is that pro-slaughter has been VERY effective at reaching these Senators. I'm really at a loss right now -- I can't get my Senator's aide to respond to calls, etc. Very frustrating.

For Joe and all the rescues

Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and grey, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined.

All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had been waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway leading to The Bridge to watch.

It wasn't long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for awhile, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often.

He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at The Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy and vigorous again.

As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the other animals watching him. He knew he was out of place here and the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be.

But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge.

With no place else to turn to, the elderly animal turned towards the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other animals like himself, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting.

One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there for a while to explain it to him.

"You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as you see him now, an older animal with his fur greying and his eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence. Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort him across The Bridge."

The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?"

As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the gloom lifted.

"Watch, and see.", said the second animal.

Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single person and among the older animals, the whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime of life.

A second group of animals from those waiting, came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears.

The newly restored animals fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all crossed The Bridge together.

"What happened?"

"That was a rescuer. The animals you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of his work. They will cross when their new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor animals that they couldn't place on earth across The Rainbow Bridge."

Good evening everbody...

There is a little 8 month old horse that we saved from the kill buyer for $75. He is getting well at a clinic in Nebraska and is the sweetest, most trusting little guy with kisses and nickers for everyone he meets.

I'm sure he is munching on his dinner at the clinic, completely unaware of the FOB's mad scramble to pay his vet bill. For those of you who have donated to aid this youngster, your kindness is very much appreciated.

Have a good evening...

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Clarrisa. Losing part of your family is never easy and pain goes so deep. Clarrisa will look in on you and remind you of many good times you had together. I wish you peace with your pain and I will have some Jack Daniels in honor of you and your dear Clarrisa.

Hugs and tears,

Cathy..I am so very sorry. Clarissa will be greated by my doggies who have gone on before her, too. They'll meet her as she comes through the light, with welcoming licks and sniffs, and after she has been reaquainted with her beloved siblings, they will all run off for a glorious romp. All whole, happy, healthy, and will await the day when we are all reunited.

Prayers for your aching heart, my friend

## Cathy P.,
My heart aches for you tonight. I am so very sad for you, and wish there were words that would help.
Perhaps words such as Clarissa is now happy and healthy and running free might help. I hope your memories of her will comfort you,my friend.

Cathy, do you remember long ago, I've forgotten what it was about- but I was in a situation and you posted that you had my back. " I'm here and I've got your back,Bobbie" you said, and I've loved you since then ! You dear ,dear person, I wish you grace and comfort in this time of loss.
Goodbye sweet Clarissa.

### Maribel, you must be a wreck tonight. I will hold you up in prayer, and especially hold your husband up in prayer. May he come through like a champ ! Take heart that many heart surgeries are performed now and the surgeons are very expert at it nowadays.
Also take heart that your Barbaro famblee will be with you in spirit and in prayer. God bless.

We have so many things happening that one could think that something , someone, is trying to take us out ! Fate?? the Devil himself?? Who ??
Anyway, hang in, FOBs , hang in. Hang together too,
Hang together and work for our horses lives.
Never give up.
It looks like a concerted effort to stop our calling out of state Senators too. There has to have been a meeting, maybe just in a hallway, but a meeting of sorts to start this. Do I smell the trail of a pro-kill Senator twirling his mustache and instigating this ? Or am I just tired and
paranoid?

I wish the judges would come back with the Cavhell decision , and I pray it will be positive for the lives of the horses.
Prayers tonight for all who are in need, pain, or sorrow. God bless us all.

Maribel: Special prayers to Hans and your family. Keep up the positive thoughts--they really do work!

Cathy P: So sorry for your loss. If Clarissa was the leader of the pack here on Earth, you know she'll be leading the Heavenly Crew very soon.

Maribel,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband. I know exactly how you are feeling. My father, also a diabetic, underwent a quadruple CABG surgery four years ago, and has since undergone another CABG, this last time a double. I am happy to say that he is doing well. Cardiac surgeons do amazing things these days. I am sure your husband is in very capable hands. Have faith...we're all here for you.

Posted by: Sandie at September 6, 2007 1:39 AM

Hiya, FsOB, I am feeling so sad tonight for our dear FOB, Cathy Potter. It must've been a comfort to Clarissa to have been with you and her canine brothers at home when she passed. Please know that I lit a candle for her early this evening. At that point, she had 81 candles glowing.

And Bobbie B., I agree, it's likely that some staffers have been talking to one another about out of state calls. I know that there are many Congressional offices which refuse to take correspondence or calls from non-constituents out of state. The waiting on the Federal Court's ruling is just interminable, isn't it?

Just a heads up that Barbaro's candles were

#### To Maribel: I'll send Harriette an e-mail that you are seeking her. Thinking of you and your husband as he faces cardiac surgery on Friday. May Barbaro's spirit send you solace and strength.
To Doe: May the gentleman be surrounded by caring people as he faces this ordeal. How sad for his family.
To Jan: Your students give me a bright feeling on such a sad evening.
To Cheryl Jones: I hope that you are getting settled into your new surroundings. Good to see you here tonight!
To Lyn G. & Laurie H.: Wow, Mr. Pistol and Montego have been channeling the spirit of "the chipper nipper" (Master Barbaro "Bobbey" Jackson), now haven't they?
To Renee: And Arrow is feeling fresh and full of himself, too, or so it seems. What a funny visual, Arrow trying to get the charm on your necklace.
And speaking of necklaces, I am so grateful for the lovely ones that I got from Glenda this Summer. Has anyone heard from Glenda lately? ####

### Cathy Potter...hugs to you fren...I am so sorry. Please take peace in knowing she is free from pain, and playing with her family. Barbaro met her at the bridge. And, she wouldn't want you to be sad.

### Maribel...best wishes to you and your family.

I will be tucking you in in my sweetest dreams Honey. I miss you here on Earth...

Your healing is complete and strength will forever carry you through your days and into the dreams of your loved ones.

May your Heavenly friends stay at your side until you fall asleep and fade off to your Dreamland.

Good night Honey. I love you so much. XXOOxxoxo

Hello Hope,

Tonight I delivered a special gift and I was sooo honored to do so!

I have been privileged to be introduced to Clyde, a handsome Appaloosa gelding. Clyde is 20 years old...and blind, just like you.

Clyde was getting hurt trying to find his pasture mate, Dylan. Well, I remembered what FOB Glenda Jo made for you so that you could locate Little Laurie easier and not get hurt while searching.

Hope, I asked Glenda Jo if she would possibly make Clyde a Doo-Dad of his own for Dylan to wear. Hope, Glenda Jo outdid herself! She made them so beautiful!! And she not only made Dylan a couple of Doo-Dads, she made Clyde a bell-less one as well!!!

Diane, Clyde's Mom, was soooo thrilled to receive them!! And, she had such a loving smile on her face when she saw Clyde's special Doo-Dad. I wish Glenda Jo could have seen the smile for herself...

Clyde will learn what the bells are for. I will keep you, and Glenda Jo, posted on his progress.

Why don't we grab your blanket and tuck you in, okay? Your Dream Angels are close by and are waiting for you to drift off to sweet dreams.

Let's fluff the folds perfectly for nuzzling and we'll leave a bit of blanket untucked for your filly to touch you while she sleeps.

Good night Hope. I love you very much. xxooxxox

#####

Hello Little Laurie H.,

September is here. ALL during the month of August, I wondered if THIS was the day of your first show. I wonder how you did...

Here's your blanket Little Laurie. Let's pull it up high on your neck abd fluff the folds so that you can nuzzle through the night.

Your Dream Angels are right here and they are promising a night of beauty and love...a night with your Mommy!

Good night Little Laurie H. I love you so much. Shhhhhhhh...close your eyes Sweetie. xxooxxox

#####

Glenda Jo,

I wish for you sweet dreams and a restful night.

You have made Clyde's Mommy so happy...and put hope in her heart. What a gift.

I couldn't wait to deliver the Doo-Dads. I was, and am, filled with pride and joy...because of you and your giving heart. And I thank you friend.

Good night Glenda. xxoo

Strategy for Thursday September 6

Those who voted in support of the Ensign-Byrd
Amendment Senate (2005) but have not yet cosponsored the bills

Harry Reid - NV Phone: 202-224-3542 Fax: 202-224-7327

Ben Nelson - NE Phone : 202-224-6551 Fax :

Tom Harkin - IOWA Phone : 202-224-3254 Fax :

Jon Kyl - AZ Phone: 202-224-4521 Fax: 202-224-2207
Aide: John Lee

Mitch McConnell - KY Phone : 202-224-2541 Fax :

Richard Burr - NC Phone : 202-224-3154 Fax :

Judd Gregg - NH Phone : 202-224-3324 Fax :
202-224-4952 Aide Tim Litzon

Many thanks to those of you who visited with your legislators during the month of August. That is bound to make a tremendous difference in our efforts!!

We still need people to be involved with state groups. It has been proven to be the most effective way to get information out quickly when the need arises. If you can help, contact sbreaux1@verizon.net

As you know, pro slaughter people are very organized and are out spreading their message. We MUST be louder!

Remember, WE ARE BARBARO’S VOICE….let it be heard!!
Thanks for everything you do and have a great day!

Shelley and Debra

Hello to All.
While New Haven, CT, has had a mounted police unit right along, I just heard on WNPR this week that Hartford will soon have a mounted police unit as well. As I commute to Hartford 5 days a week I am thrilled! This will make another great point to bring up with my rep Chris Murphy who is the only CT Congressman who supports but not yet a co-sponsor of HR503. The crime rate is quite high in the Insurance Capital of the World and this is another means of getting police officers mixing with the community on the streets. This will make another great point to bring up with my rep Chris Murphy who is the only CT Congressman who supports but is not yet a co-sponsor of HR503. An example of people and horses working together to fight crime. I will keep you posted.

Have a great night!

Dear Cathy P.,

Many blessings to you dear one. I know you're heartbroken and there isn't much I could say to change that but please know that sweet Clarissa was one lucky gal to have you. She went out with the feeling of being blessed by love.

Now, take care of yourself!
