An update from Penny at timwoolleyracing.com:
It is a beautiful Tuesday morning here at Fair Hill. The air is nice and cool so far and the horses are enjoying it. Early this morning there was a report that Luke marched right out to the porta pad with lots of spunk. After going cross country yesterday with Pistol I was a bit worried about his feet but apparently he was fine. While I was talking to Beth in the isle this morning Red Aspen stuck her head out to visit with me. Beth said that her hind feet were rarely on the ground this morning while they walked her in the barn. It's great to hear that she is feeling so fresh. I gave her a kiss on the nose and took a close look at her eye which seems to be fine. Grandma was sleeping again in her stall. She was standing but her lower lip was hanging down (this I took as a signal that she was in a deep sleep). We had a good laugh at how lady like she looked. Anyway, like they "say pretty is as pretty does!" She is a racehorse that's all that matters. Whip Smart looked bright coming back to the barn this morning and hopefully she will run well tomorrow. Our Diva (Real Lace's little sister) got her first set of shoes on this morning and she stood like a trooper. As I was leaving the barn I took a few minutes to love on Mass Romantic. She was nuzzling my hand looking for treats, what a good girl she is. I hope she trained well today.
And I have finished my laundry ...
Update 2410: Tuesday at Presque Isle Downs is dark day (no racing) and the racetrack is closed for training, so it has a decidedly Sunday feel. This was my last day at my current job, which included mucking out seven stalls, walking one, doing one up (four standing bandages) and tidying up. Tomorrow I start work for another trainer and will be doing some different things. Change is good I guess! It should also provide me more time for research for my book as well as writing the book, which is much the toughest part of the entire book project! As it is dark today at the track it is also laundry day, and a day to try to get out and actually see the area a little bit, after a nap!
Update 2409: Bill Mott, Saratoga's leading trainer for the meet, is not typically known for conditioning early 2yos. Yesterday he closed the meet with a win in the Grade 1 Hopeful win: Majestic Warrior Roars to Hopeful Win, excerpt:
"Leaving the half-mile pole, I thought they had gotten away from our horse," Mott said. "At that point, I was wondering if he would be able to make up that kind of ground. He put in a tremendous run, and he has to be a good horse to make up that kind of ground. He was 10 out of it when they turned for home, and he rolled by them. He ran very professionally the first time. He's the perfect student. You can't ask for a nicer, better horse to train.
"Obviously, he proved today that he can handle the best colts we have on the East Coast. Probably, the logical step is to look at the Champagne (grade 1, Oct. 6 at Belmont Park). I can't tell you what an exciting thing this is for me. I think I've run one horse in this race. I ran Paradise Creek in here, and he turned out to be a turf champion. Words can't describe (the meet). This really tops it off. It doesn't get much better than this."
Good Morning Alex, enjoy reading of your travels.
Good Morning Angel Barbaro and Heavenly Herd.
Everyone, please committ to calling/faxing, e-mail your senators and respresentatives. We are the voices of the horses. With our help they will be safe from slaughter one day.
May the spirit of Barbaro shine brightly upon your day.
