Barbaro Updates 371
updates are now here.
Update 2385: FOBs have been contributing to this advertising campaign in the Thoroughbred Times. We are now looking at radio spots, here is one example: Bay Filly.
Update 2384: The first day of racing at Presque Isle Downs looks like it has decent sized fields. I would imagine the racing secretary's office is quite pleased. The meet opens with a $100,000 stakes race for 3yo fillies.
Update 2383: An interesting Bloodhorse chat, it seems plenty of horses are going to be shipping in to Presque Isle Downs in the next few days as they have a waiting list for stalls: Rose Mary Williams- Mountaineer Gaming.
Update 2382: A Kiaran McLaughlin barn visit for Today at Saratoga.
Bonnie Mizrahi, President of The Exceller Fund had this printed in the Letters to the Editor column: Yesterday's heroes serve to remind of today's needs, excerpt:
Recently another horse was rescued from a "kill" pen located not too far away from the storied track at Saratoga. This 9-year-old gelding had raced 96 times, notching up 17 wins. As a 3-year-old, he was classy enough to compete in the Wood Memorial. But instead of cheering fans celebrating his retirement, he stood sore and confused in a pen waiting for his final ride. This horse was pulled from that pen by Another Chance 4 Horses with help from the Fans of Barbaro.
Update 2381: Again the weather is gorgeous at Presque Isle Downs. The meet is getting closer and a few more horses have shipped in, but there is speculation that there are simply not enough horses here. We shall see how the entries are for saturday which are being taken as I type. Michael Dickinson is in town. It will be the first time a race track has installed his Tapeta surface, so we shall see how it works. He seemed pretty upbeat. I also saw a couple more familiar faces, which is nice, but we are getting people from many different racing jurisdictions I think. At the moment, if you count the jockeys and their agents and security, there seem to be more people on the backside than horses.
I mucked six stalls and then galloped three on the track. The track was great again although it felt a little firmer than it did on monday. A good morning's work.
Update 2380: Movement of horses in Australia still remains very restricted due to the outbreak of Equine Influenza. The breeding season has been moved forward a few days to enable resident mares and stallions to mate that do not require transportation. Racing may return to Victoria this weekend: Australian breeding season pushed forward, excerpt:
As of Monday, the number of confirmed or suspected cases of equine influenza had climbed to 450, the result of movement of horses from Centennial Park, where 163 of 166 tested positive. Pleasure and competition horses from Centennial Park moved all over the state before the lockdown, and there are now 80 properties under investigation.
In Victoria, the situation has eased slightly, with all horses that arrived in the last 14 days testing negative for the disease. Since no Thoroughbred in Victoria has tested positive, plans are for racing to resume at Caulfield racecourse this weekend. The statewide lockdown on movement of horses continues until Friday afternoon.
Good morning FOB's.
Good morning Barbaro.
