    Barbaro Updates: 298

    updates are now here.

Update 2001: Another Belmont addition: CP West, and a defection: Time Squared. Digger's participation is now also questionable. John Velazquez has opted to ride Rags to Riches, Rafael Bejarano will now partner Slew's Tizzy. Hard Spun returned to the track today after working on sunday, as did Tiago: Blemont notes, tuesday June 5.

Update 2000: As many people have been speculating, Pletcher has determined Rags to Riches will run in the Belmont. Now who will ride her ? Her rugular jockey, Garrett Gomez, has committed to Hard Spun. If Rags to Riches runs back to her Oaks victory at Churchill she will be a contender: Rags to Riches Will Run in Belmont.

Update 1999: A gorgeous morning this morning at Fair Hill. I had four to ride. First out was Gator Nation, and we went to the Tapeta track to gallop a mile and a quarter. He went very nicely. Its funny, when I arrived at the barn Gator was ready and tacked up, he saw me and started nickering ... he knew it was time to train and seemed to be looking forward to it! Second set was Nautical Agent, we went to the Tapeta track, Tim came with us on Fortuna. On the way to the track we saw Rick Porter, wished him luck for saturday and then asked whether he would try Hard Spun on the turf this year if he did not win the Belmont. I think it had crossed his mind. Nautical Agent could not have galloped any better. She led Fortuna round for a mile and a quarter, and then of course high-stepped it all the way home. Next was Who's Happy. She went to the dirt track to jog a couple of miles. She was cool, its cool riding a horse who is three for three in her last three starts. I had assumed that I would not be getting back on her! As I was jogging around I saw Barclay Tagg, no time for a chat, but a quick hello. Final set was Nonpariel, she went across the fields. The rain has done the ground the world of good. Nonpariel was full of herself, but felt great out there. A lovely morning!

Update 1998: If you are looking for a horse to upset the big two in The Belmont, Tiago may be worth considering. He will be coming on late, and he galloped out after the Derby very well which may be a sign he was just getting going at the end of the (shorter) race. Rich Rosenblatt takes a closer look at Tiago: Team Giacomo Seeks Belmont Glory With Tiago.

Black Elk (Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux)

Then I was standing on the highest mountain of them all, and round about beneath me was the whole hoop of the world. And while I stood there I saw more than I can tell and I understood more than I saw; for I was seeing in a sacred manner the shapes of all things in the spirit, and the shape of all shapes as they must live together like one being.

And I say the sacred hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father. And I saw that it was holy...

But anywhere is the center of the world.

MO HORSE HEROES/FATHER'S DAY TRIBUTE FOR MR. J

PLEASE, PLEASE participate in Rosemary's lovely tribute to Mr. Jackson for Father's Day and at the same time show our support for the MO horse heroes from that tragic double-decker trailer accident last fall! I KNOW, believe me I know, that there have been so many pleas for $$$ for rescues lately, but you can participate in this effort for as little as FIVE DOLLARS for each horse you sponsor!

This link takes you to the first message which explains how the tribute works...PLEASE ALSO READ MESSAGE 115 on that thread, but don't discuss that here in this public space!

    Thank you for your consideration!

Good morning everyone, went home from work last night and had a voice mail from Senator Clinton aide, she said the Clinton does not support the slaughter of the horses, and in the past she had supported S311, and voted to pass the bill. This was a real person, not a recording.

    Does Barbaro Have 75 Frens??

I need 75 frens to tell me and Barbaro what he has meant to their lives. I thought I would be flooded with emails when I made this bet with Cal.

Many have emailed, what do you want??? I want you to write from your heart. If Barbaro were standing beside you , what would you tell him ?

It can be one line, one parargraph or as much as you feel.

I have until Monday the 25th to get my 75 frens to answer me. If I don't have 75 people who love Barbaro enough to tell him how they feel by then,
Cal wins a bag of chocolate and I leave the Board.

SPONSORS ARE THE ONLY ANSWER AND THE ONLY PATH TO THE CURE FOR THE PLAGUE KNOWN AS HORSE SLAUGHTER...please make your calls today as assigned by your state leaders AND on the link to Shelley and Debra's strategy. Their DC advisors are guiding our steps if we are wise enough to follow their lead and not get derailed by other suggestions for what we "should" be doing!

The CT Naughty Nutmeggers are proud to welcome Christian, our 15th member! An interesting fact about CT that I discovered when setting up the group...according to the November 2006 newsletter of the CT Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, "CT is estimated to have over 60,000 horses - the largest per capita number among the 50 states."

Given the demographics of CT, it is highly likely that a large % of these horses are in Congressman Murphy's district! He is our only holdout in CT, and we have been encouraged by the feedback from his aides to date...however, the celebration will only begin when his name appears on the co-sponsor list!

Calls-faxes-voicemails....please do it for all the nameless, faceless horses who have already been martyred in the name of greed and corruption, and please do it to honor the legacy of our beloved Barbaro!

    Good Morning Barbaro

ACN...saw your beautiful star! You should be so proud that groups are gathering together to find a cure for the horrible plague, HORSE SLAUGHTER. Only getting the bill passed, will stop the slaughter and illegal transportation.

    Have a great day, Barbaro!

    Good Morning Fans/Family of Barbaro

CO-SPONSORS! I know it sounds like a worn out record, but a new one will be made as soon as this bill is passed. Please call, fax, email!

We are honoring and carrying Barbaro's legacy. Please do whatever it takes to finish so many tasks. Do not forget the Fallen Angels, the rescues, they need help, all animals large or small, those suffering, or need a kind word or helping hand.

There are droughts occuring in many parts of the country. People are selling their livestock early, cannot afford them. We have to look forward into the horizons to help...the hay, grains, are going to be so expensive.

Everyone have a nice, productive, day.

    ###
I am sorry about BDude's passing.

    Tim and Alex...thank you.

Apache, Fitch, and so many others, we hear you, WE ARE HERE.

    Good Morning FOB's

    STRATEGY FOR TUESDAY JUNE 5

As we all learned last week, our horses will never be safe from harm until we pass this federal legislation. It was a wonderful thing that no horse was slaughtered on US soil for six days but we did not really stop slaughter at all. We just temporarily relocated it. Sadly, we have been informed that slaughter in Mexico and Canada has risen 240%. And our supporters fear another foreign slaughter plant will open up across the borders because of this increase. We have to stop the transport. Also, there is a possibility that another plant will open in this country if we cannot get this legislation passed.

It was a tough lesson but I believe it made us all more determined to get this done once and for all. With renewed energy, we continue our campaign this week UNITED and with a commitment stronger than ever. A HOUSE DIVIDED CANNOT STAND!! We have joined together as one voice and that voice is stronger than ever.

While the strategy has changed some, it is with the same purpose…..COSPONSORS. We have been in contact again with our DC connections who cannot stress strongly enough the importance of more cosponsors.

Here are the key numbers…….We need to have 218 cosponsors in the House (we now have 158) and 60 in the Senate ( we now have 27). So, as you can see, we have a long way to go.

The situation in Illinois is frustrating, but it must go through the legal process. While we hope and pray for a good outcome there, WE must put our energies into the big picture. If we are successful, we will never have to worry about Cavel again!!!

For this week, we have been asked to focus on members of the House who were co-sponsors of HR503 last year but who have not yet signed on this year. Also, we have been asked to include Senator Obama and Senator Durbin

We have been collecting money for gifts to Michael Matz, Peter Brette, and Chelokee to celebrate the winning of the Barbaro Stakes.
If anyone still wants to donate, there is a second round of gifts that are yet to be presented.
The FOBs have already presented gift baskets to Michael, Peter, and ..of course...Chelokee, in addition to rose bushes for outside planting. But due to the great FOB response, there will be more presented in celebration of this great moment in horse racing!

If you missed this opportunity and would still like to participate, please contact Kennett Florist with your donation. The deadline for donations is this Friday, June 8.

Pennsylvania Fans of Barbaro, we NEED your help! As Shelly and Debra have repeatedly told us, we cannot get these bills to a full vote without MORE COSPONSORSHIP. Pennsylvania is a big Ag state, and we are fighting a tough lobby. WILL YOU HELP US?

We have started a Pennsylvania Strategy like many of the other states have. Our team is NOW 46 strong and we’d like more of you to join us! WE have 11 legislators who have not co-sponsored the bills. That’s more than half…Please help us!

I am the Pennsylvania State Leader. Please email me if you’d like to join our Team Barbaro Pennsylvania and get on the emailing list for targeting our PA Senator and Reps who have not yet agreed to support the anti-slaughter legislation. You can email me at Lor in PA.

    WE NEED YOUR HELP!

So let's get out there and SAVE those horses! Call your REPS and SENATORS...do it in loving memory of our Barbaro and all the nameless, faceless horses being trucked into Mexico and Canada and dying brutally...Please contact me and join our team if you live in Pennsylvania and want to help rescue horses from slaughter.

    I GET IT.

Today Bart went for a bit of a ride in my car! He met me on one end of the lot but I was going to park at the other end. I picked him up and away we went! The PURRRfect passenger! (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Thank you for asking Kathy. He will get plenty of Kathy pats when he wakes from his nap!

    Good Morning, FOB's!

    ###
LaurieH, congratulations on your ever-increasing Minnesota group!!! I knew you would be the guiding force...please give hugs to Bart from me and I hope you and your husband are feeling better very soon.

Just watched the Barbaro Celebration DVD and it was beautiful. More tears - but it beautifully captures the beauty and emotional intensity of that day. Thank you Amy for your wonderful work and thank you to those who contributed to it.

    ###
Have just e-mailed HBO to find out if there was ANY feasibility about putting the documentary to DVD. From the conversation that Quita, Della and I had with one of the producers, they won't make any determination until after it airs and then there are a few details (like getting the rights, etc.) that would need to be worked out. AS soon as I get any further information, I'll post it here.

And yes, you WILL need Kleenex. Here I thought I was pretty much OK...until I saw the footage of Edgar and the pics of Barbaro as a foal (and oh, he was adorable THEN!!!). Martita was able to meet Edgar at the Anna House benefit and she described it to us. (HUGS TO MARTITA!!!)

Mr. Jackson said Nicanor and Baby Brother are doing very well.

Again, it was so wonderful to see the New Bolton staff again - I've missed them and I think a breakfast/snack delivery from me is in the offing. Also got to briefly meet Dr R. and it was such an honor to speak with the Jacksons.

Alex, its always a pleasure to see you again.

    Yea, the boss left...

Thank you Lyn! I am SO very proud of MINNESOTA! We have a couple of "tough sells" here for Senators but with polite patience, straight facts and teamwork, I really think we can win them over.

My husband has a Dr. appt. today. I'm doing better, thank you. At least I don't have a box of Kleenex hanging from my neck anymore!

Thank you again Lyn! Your encouraging words are inspiring!

POST OF (PORTION OF) EMAIL SENT TO PA GROUP LEADER

    Lorri,

    (PORTION EDITED OUT)

I have to admit that I am also very discouraged by what I see as a general lack of cooperation between the “anti-slaughter people” and the “horse rescue people”. Even among the horse rescue people, there are divisions between people who are eager to fund “EMERGENCY” or “URGENT” pleas, but are nowhere to be found when it comes time to fund the on-going maintenance of the facilities that care for rescued horses.

I will be concentrating my efforts on fund raising for rescue facilities that care for rescued horses and nurse mare foals and therefore ask that you remove my name from the PA calling group.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you, Lorri.

    Sincerely,
    Glenda Jo O’Brien

I think it is really important to stay focused on the goal and not let the ups and downs of the fight overwhelm us. We need 60 co-sponsors in the Senate. We need the bill on the floor in the house. Everything else is secondary. We must not forget that even more horses will take the abusive and torturous road to their deaths if we decide that the task is just too big for us, or hopeless. It isn't. WE ARE GOING TO WIN THIS. We must have the patience and determination to keep fighting no matter what happens in Cavel or anywhere else. Our goal is to make horse slaughter for America's horses illegal. Period

I miss Barbaro so much, sometimes I just cry and cry. I don't understand why I cry so much, but can't help it. I know I will ball my eyes out Wed. night.

I will send another email to Sen. Corker about Horse Slaughter. Hope that helps.

I love you, Barbaro, so,so,so much!!!! Your legacy will live on forever!

Have a great day, FOB's. I can't help but think about last summer and how everyday I checked this site to see how beautiful Barbaro was doing. It was such a thrill to see ACN for Barbaro. Sorry to bring up sad memories, but seeing Barbaro's story on TV just brings up so many sad memories for me, but happy ones as well. I hope if I go to Heaven some day, Barbaro and my grandmother are right there at the gates. What a thrill that would be for me! Just to see beautiful Barbaro running again. Sorry to be so somber, but I have really been thinking about how special Barbaro was.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day. I am so thankful to have this site where everyone loves Barbaro. :)

Please excuse my ignorance but your post has confused me. If I read it correctly you have resigned from your State Group making calls to end slaughter. Why would you do this?
Are you assuming that everyone on this Board is either/or? I for one am working my ass off on anti-slaughter AND supporting Miracle Horse Rescue in a big way. I have also adopted a FOB saved horse. I'm not the only one doing this. I agree that we are leaving the rescues in a predicament without supporting the horses we save, but it's no reason to give up on ending slaughter.

    Cathy,
I haven't "given up" on anything, I just need to concentrate on horse rescue...

I think it is fantastic if you are able to do both, but I can't. I spend so little time with my husband and my animals now that I have a perpetually dirty aviary and a dog that needs grooming so bad that he looks like he's homeless (I do my own grooming to save $$$).

BTW, congratulations on your continued committment to MHR. It inspires me to know there are loyal supporters fo rescued horses.

Harriette, By the end of this week you will probably be well on your way to have won 3 bags of chocolate. I am going against the favorite in the Belmont and picking Hard Spun again. I think Curlin is a tough horse to beat.

As far as our other bet is concerned....
Ive snuck over to the DB a few times, I'm amazed at how you can claim that you will be off the board. I think you have as many letters coming your way, as Oprah has coming. It's only been a little over 24 hours. You're not fooling me.

BTW, Mine is almost finished, which will probably put you ahead of Oprah!

Posted by: Cal at June 5, 2007 5:15 PM

I think it's important that we pace ourselves. This isn't going to be a short war here. We can have bursts of great energy and productivity, but if we peter out before we succeed, then what have we really achieved? That's why I think it's important for everyone to take breaks occasionally -- we are dealing with a very depressing topic here, and a formidable foe. We need to realize that and keep ourselves strong and healthy for a long fight. Every single person who gives up and goes away is a terrible, terrible loss, as far as I am concerned. We need every single one of you if we are to accomplish the goal we set out to do, in Barbaro's memory. For those who can do both rescue and anti-slaughter, that's wonderful. For those who can only focus on one, that's wonderful, too. We have many different strengths among us. Everyone is contributing to the goal. The most important thing is NOT TO GIVE UP AND GO AWAY. I can tell you this as sure as I am standing here -- THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT JIM TUCKER, CAVEL AND THE PRO-SLAUGHTER FOLKS ARE COUNTING ON. Do you want to make their dreams come true? I didn't think so. So, pace yourself.

You are so right that "giving up" is exactly what pro slaughter wants. If we as a group don't stay focused and call, call, call each and every day, they will win and the horses lose.

Posted by: cathy potter/california at June 5, 2007 5:24 PM

    Hello everyone,

Checking in before I leave for a biz trip. Have made my first round of calls today and will send some e-mails waiting for my flights. Virtually every moment I can spare is spent following the call list from Shelley & Debra each day.

Right now, in my life, this is more important than anything else. If we get this bill passed, so much else will fall into place. Personally, for me, I have some horses I am extremely close to, but cannot buy. One is named after my Dad and I fear he may be sold soon. That said, I lay awake at night worried that he will eventually end up in a slaughter house. It is causing me to lose sleep and I ramble out of bed each day tired, depressed, angry, but more determined to do all I can to end this.

Can you support rescue and make calls? Of course you can. Making these calls takes very little time, e-mails and faxes even shorter periods of time.

    Please everyone, help us.

    ****JOIN YOUR STATE CALLING GROUP****

If you're making calls or sending faxes on your own, being a part of your state group doesn't require any more work than you're doing now, I promise. The goal is to have as many FOBs as possible in each group so the calling/faxing is cordinated for MAXIMUM EFFECT!!

If you haven't been calling, THAT'S OK!! We'll coach you on what to say and you'll be a pro in no time. If you're only comfortable sending faxes or leaving voicemails, THAT'S OK TOO!!

    HERE'S HOW YOU JOIN:
Click on the "HORSE ANTI-SLAUGHTER STRATEGY" tab near the top (left side) of this page

Scroll down to the section that reads "Strategy for Tuesday, June 5th". Keep scrolling until you see "STATE CALLING GROUP CONTACT INFORMATION".

This is the list of all the state groups currently up and running, and the email addresses of the leader for that state. If your state is listed, email the state leader and tell her you'd like to join up!
If your state is not listed, please email me (sbreaux1@verizon.net) and we'll get one started in your state.
Have any questions or concerns about joining? Feel free to email me.

WE NEED EVERYBODY TO JOIN THEIR STATE GROUP!!!

THE PROSLAUGHTER FORCES ARE CALLING, AND WE NEED TO BE LOUDER!!!

    THANKS

As Cheryl J, Skyler, Cathy P apologies to anybody else I missed so aptly put it, it's all tied together...

    AFTERNOON REPOST

    LOST IN THE FOG TRIBUTE

Sunday June 10, at Golden Gate Fields, LOST IN THE FOG STAKES OF $50,000 will be held. GEVA is planning a booth to raise funds in Memory of the Champ. If anyone would like to donate to GEVA, Pam could use the help. I will be attending and would like to take any donations from FOB's to surprise her. She does not like to ask for help. On that note, I would be happy to take any donations I can gather in such a short notice to her on Sunday. My mailing address is

Please, everybody, take the few minutes needed to make the calls - SPONSORS are the only way to bring the legislation forward and end the scourge of horse slaughter forever! If your business life doesn't provide any free time, leave voice mails at night - EVERY EFFORT IS WORTHWHILE!

    60 MORE REPRESENTATIVES!

##Maribel, How are you doing? I miss our talks.

##Debbie LA, I will come back, after work, this evening, 7PM EST, to add another excerpt of the continuing story, "ONLY A MOMENT BEFORE THE WIND."

Looking forward, to using my new puter, possibly this weekend. Sure have been missing all of you, and regular visits here and on the DB. I HAVE been continuing my anti-slaughter calls and spreading the word, but nothing beats the FOB 'fix' that feeds my BARBARO JONES.

    Equine Heaven had me ROFLMAO.

Since Wilbur's premature demise 4 baby turkeys are residing at MHR. I visited over the weekend and they are now about the size of a chicken. They roam around the ranch in a pack. It appears there are 2 males and 2 females. We talked about the names, naturally 1 is Wilbur Jr and 1 is Grace. So maybe the other 2 should be Jack & Karen?

I liked the comment from John Holland...about funds, etc on the discussion board

We have to get this bill passed to save horses, and yes to remember the rescues. I am afraid if the drought, and the cost of feed keeps going up, it is going to be overwhelming. And there are going to be alot of horses. You FOBS are smart, and I am sure you are looking at the long forecast.

PLEASE KEEP CALLING, FAXING, AND EMAILING. And be thinking of ways we can help the rescues. Without them, we would have no place to put Barbaro's brothers and sisters.

Oh Joan, I have NO intention of giving up...just trying to fill a gap that fits with what I am able to do and what is important to me. The best means I have to raise money is to make and sell jewelry. BTW, Dawn in Omaha has contributed a great deal of money from sales of her FOB jewelry. Check it out if you haven't already!

I am hoping that I will soon be sitting in my living room with my family (bald, feathered, and furry members! - sorry, Bob!) surrounded by satin cord, crow beads, and pendants, oh, and jingle bells (!) - up to my eyebrows in ORDERS for necklaces (and something new, called "The Mane Thing"!)to be sold to support nurse mare foal rescue...

Stay tuned - I hope to have info availible soon. Samples went out via priority mail yesterday and I placed orders to re-stock my jewelry supplies last week. I'm hoping some of the new pendants are waiting on my front porch right now!

Give up - NOT ME. I AM STILL HERE!

    FOB'S - FLORIDA!!
    WAY TO GO!!!
    Another cosponsor is AWFB!!

    AFTERNOON REPOST

I believe in Tiago as well. I am so back and forth with him. I think that Tiago is going to do very well in this race. I have him at fourth right now but that will probably change. Also Edgar is now entered with CP West...... That should be interesting.

Something is telling me (just my own instincts) that the three (actually 2) in the Derby and Preakness are not going to do as well in the Belmont. I think the other horses are going to do better. I may be wrong but it is just a hunch.

##Nancy.. Did you get my email?????? It was really long.. Let me know so if you didn't I can send it again.

I have had the best education here about horses and what goes on.After reading a few books about champions, I can also talk racing and know.I can stand up and talk about slaughter and get strangers making calls and to pay attention to America's hidden secret.

It gave me numbers to call in Tenn. , and I am going to go do that. I love Barbaro so much and don't want everything he went through and fought so hard for to just be a feather in the wind. Barbaro's legacy will live on as long as we stop horse slaughter and don't give up like he never did. I know everyone on this website feels as passionately about stopping horse slaughter as I do. Thank goodness for you all! Barbaro's voice lives one through the good deeds we do in honor of his valiant fight. God bless each and everyone of you.

Just had a sad but interesting animal encounter. My partner came running in, saying there was a banded bird (he thought maybe a baby eagle) dead in our alley. He took off the band and brought it to me; I started calling around (my vet gave me # for animal control, who gave me # for bird banding inquiries - fyi - 800-327-BAND) and when I described the writing on the band they directed me to the US Racing Pigeon Assn. (fyi 800-755-2778) Turns out the bird was a racing (homing) pigeon, and from the numbers on the band they will be able to notify the owners what happened - why number 1920 out of Hammond did not make it home. Was glad to be able to bring them closure. My first encounter with a banded bird. Should you ever find one, pls contact 800-327-BAND.

SUNDAY IS THE DEADLINE...

    MO HORSE HEROES/MR J TRIBUTE

This link takes you to the first message which explains how the tribute works...PLEASE ALSO READ MESSAGE 115 on that thread, but don't discuss that here in this public space!

    hELLO MY DEAR fAMBLEE:

i NEED LOTS OF REIKI AND WHITE LIGHT AND PRAYER. One of my little lurchers from Ireland, Jessie has thyroiud cancer. Rare. Nice. I have been down the cancer road so many times....

I have no idea what to do here, I have options for surgery, do nothing, do homeopathic things...just chew my thumbs down to the bone...this is the sweetest, my kind little dog who suffered so in the possession of the Gypsies in Limerick....my friend pulled her out of a kill shelter with a day to get and sent her with the original lurcher I was asking for: Steffie (She's just fine.)

Anyhow. I am punchy. Feel like I got hit over the the head with an anvil...the tumor doesn't hurt her, impede her air intake, xrayed: no mets in lungs....

I have not done a thing today since returning hoe from consults, xrays, sharing part of a chocolate donut with her on the way home. Came home, got on Google to research the dismal news on Thyroid cancer in dogs, wrote a HELP note to our Circle of Grey who help get each other through these medical jigsaw puzzles...

I will make my calls after I have feed pups, gone out for a bite. Have no fear. I do just feel like I have been hit on the head....and that numbness...that all-t--familiar-numbness...
    love to all; j

An interesting snippet from the Seattle Post Intelligencer for all you feline lovers out there:

"Hello, kitty: From the we're-not-making-this-up department comes news that a company called Lifestyle Pets has introduced the Ashera, a new breed of cat that retails for $22,000. Sunroof extra. Billed as the world's 'largest, rarest and most exotic domestic cat,' the Ashera is the size of a small dog - and we're not talking Paris Hilton-style pooch. Top weight is about 30 pounds. Developed by crossing two exotic feline bloodlines - the African serval and the Asian leopard cat - with a regular old domestic cat, the Ashera has leopardlike spots and contrasting tiger stripes and a smile that will scare the mailman. We kid. The news release says Asheras are intelligent, great with kids and OK with being walked on a leash. If this is the pet of your dreams, visit lifestylepets.com..."

Here's the link to the website with pictures of the Ashera...it is a strikingly beautiful cat, but $22,000?...gulp!

ANY MORE TIME/ENERGY - here are some more noncosponsors to target today (Tuesday June 5)

Better late than never - their aides are all still in the office - just called all (except Crenshaw - he has decided to cosponsor - need not call him from this list; just mentioning so you can see he was multi-targeted today; probably decided to sign up just to shut us up!) ANYWAY - if you're done with the TWR national list and the State list from your group leader - and have any time/energy left, these are the ones being targeted by other antislaughter groups today. If you get this info after hours, pls call anyway and leave a voicemail. THANKS - CJ

My sincere condolences to STEVE & FAMILY for BDUDE. . . . so very sorry for your loss . . . .
BDude, you need to look for a small kind man with a big heart up there, okay, and go jump right on his lap and say hello to "Louie"! I highly suspect you will find him with all the other four-legged FOBs up there!!

And especially to my FOB "FAMBLEE" - please accept my grateful and heartfelt thanks directly from my heart to all of you for being who you are to me, but especially at this time. I can't begin to express here how much your presence in my life means. You truly are "my famblee" and, of course, we're all here together because of a beautiful dark bay horse, "The Sublime One", "The Big Boss Horse" . . . .BARBARO!!
Thank you from my heart for all you have done, the prayers, thoughts, hugs, cards, special words, and memorial tributes to the UPenn fund for laminitis research, so special!! Love you all!!
(Still a bit behind this last week as there is much to do but you are in my heart and I keep the votives burning for Barbaro!)

MISS HAWTY CREEK - I was very happy to see Alex post about you (I've been skimming)! I love you, too, honey!! Please just be safe!!

Thanks for asking about the Big Dudette aka Miss Funny Face. Healthwise she's doing okay. But Losing the BDude has devastated her. She's been waiting by the door since last night waiting for him to walk in. All the while she's giving very sad meows. She lived with the BDude for all of her 18+ years and doesn't know life without him. She was there by his side when I found him in distress.

Please light candles for BDude and Funny - they both need your good wishes.

Thanks to all for the messages of hope.

    ## Nancy. I'll send it again. That is totally wierd. Must be yahoo.

##Cheryl.. I suppose you didn't get your email either????? About Butters???

##Dee. Thank you for the response on my picks. I am up and down with Hard Spun and Curlin. I have this "hunch" that "other" horses are going to get in there. Tiago and Rags to Riches. Like I said, I will change my mind again. I am still sticking with Slews Tizzy for the win as of today though... NOW that Edgar and CP West is entered, hmmmmmmmmmm that could very well be an upset as well.

    ## Harriett. I will go out an get you some more buckets of water. It has been raining raining raining here and will be for days. We have plenty to spare.

    ### WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY is it so hard to get an answer about the full field wagering???? ALEX??????????? :-)

    New picks for the Belmont:
    1. Barbaro
    2. Barbaro
    3. Barbaro

Oh yeah It is MY opinion that when we help the horses in ANY way that we can, it is a big plus. Some of us like me right now, have "time" to do mulitple things (like hanging out on the phone all day listening to music till someone answers LOL). Others have to work and cannot do as much. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Even if someone can and only has time to make ONE phone call, feed ONE horse for one day, that is better than nothing. ANY help toward any of these projects is one step forward to the Barbaro Effect. :-) AND I hope you don't mind if I borrow your term Cal, FALIURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!! Success BEGINS with FAILURE. OR Success is Faliure turned inside out.

    Luv you all..........................

I'm so very sorry to hear about your Jessie. Know that you both are in my prayers. However difficult it may turn out to be, I know you'll make the right choice for Jessie.

I agree with you about Lyn's Licorice Daughter. It SHOULD be in every horse lovers library. I've only been able to read it once...and it took me almost a month because Lyn truly captured our sweet Sofie. This old man kept crying, and that makes it tough to turn the pages and keep reading.

    Everyone,
Please, search your hearts and choose the casue that's most important to you. We all are working together and these causes truly ARE all intertwined (with credit due to the FOB who reminded us earlier). Barbaro wants us to work on all of our UNITED causes...he KNOWS we can do it. We are a diverse group and that helps to make us stronger.

Glenda...where can we see your jewelry?

Posted by: Kathy in SC at June 5, 2007 9:50 PM

    *******************************************

Well, that is a problem....I don't have a way to get pictures to you and the pieces are all "different", all unique. I honestly do not think I have anything that is not "one-of-a-kind", although I do have pieces that are part of a set (2 piece or 3 piece), so they "match". Even the "fund raiser necklaces" that I make have been "one-of-a-kind" because even if they have the same pendant and the same color satin cord, I have made them unique by the combination of bead colors or the "pattern" of the beads that I use for each piece. I have done it on purpose from the beginning, even though it takes more time to work that way.

However, in order to "market" my "fund raiser necklaces" in the future, I will begin to choose patterns that I will repeat, so that people can look at a picture and order THAT particular item. I am working with a horse rescue right now to try to put product on their website, but until the details are worked out, I really can't go into it. I can say it will be "Horsey" jewelry...

Hopefully there will be some good feedback as the people who participated in my "FREE JEWELRY FOR YOU" fund raiser for Pure Thoughts Foal Team Abercrombie & Fitch start to receive their jewelry....which is not "Horsey" jewelry.

I think Santa might be bringing me a digital camera, so that should make it possible for me to continue to create "one-of-a-kind" pieces and (hopefully!) sell them on my own website. I will always prefer to make unique pieces, specifically designed for a particular person. Especially if that person is special to me. I also prefer the piece(s) to be a gift. Don't get rich that way, but it brings me joy and I NEED that in my life. (Good thing I don't have alot of friends, LOL!!!)

So, as I have said before: Stay tuned! "Horsey" jewelry is on the way! And you will be able to support horse rescue by purchasing it! Doesn't get better than that!

    Thanks for the inquiries,
    Glenda

    Hay Frens, and Debbie LA,

Finally done with work, today, and taking the opportunity to add a little more of the story that has been continuing since Update #228 March 5 6:07 PM. This part is continued from last week,, posted in Update #293 May 30 12:49 AM.

Here, suspended in the moment, the Young Prince completely understood Ardor's obsession with the pleasure of simply chasing after her, and being a part of her song. He decided that he would remain here, and not deminish his new fren's joy by blocking the view of that beautiful backside with a view of his...at least, not this day.

He could completely relate, thinking that Ardor's delight was not such a foolish pleasure at all.

Some of the Mares had moved again. They had not been inside of Ardor's circle. His thunder had driven them down to the lake where they were now enjoying a cool drink. The Young Prince joined them. He trotted to the water's edge, and decided to step in.

The surface of the lake was quite still. It reflected the beautiful blue sky on its shimmering surface. Only at the shallows edge, did it move. Wherever the Young Prince stepped, he sent large gentle ripples, in concentric circles, out into the deep. As the waves licked the land's soft tan sand, it breathed, in-and-out, and seemed to whisper,

    (breath in) "Hhhuh...(breath out)hhhah-wah-ya...(breath in)hhhuh...(breath out)hhhuh-wah-ya..."

The Young Prince liked the water. He was fascinated by the ripples, and enjoyed watching the effect that his steps had upon the vast still surface.

In the otherplace, he had seen a small pond, water thoughs, fountain spraays, and buckets. Water had always been brought to him, but this lake was the first of its kind that he had ever stepped into. In the otherplace, his bestess-people-fren, Wardo, had often sprayed and rubbed him with 'special-water.'

Wardo spoke in the language of man. He used quick clipped words that made a unique rhythmic music. He also understood 'horse' very well. What made him the bestess, however, is that Wardo could speak heart-song. From the moment that the Young Prince stepped into the racing-world-of-man, it was Wardo's heart-song that greeted him every morning, and was his lullabye, every night.

When Wardo brought the 'special-water' to rub all over the Young Prince, there was no shock of wettness, or scarey surprize. He moved in calm, deliberate preparation, taking great care to insure that the Young Prince knew when the water was coming. Then he would rub the water all over, and sctitch him with a soft sponge thing. Bubbles in the water gave it a good stink, and all during the splishing splashing, Wardo made music in merry conversation.

"Bueno, bueno, mi amigo," he would say. "Oh tienes gusto de eso, si? OK, nos dejo' ahora la varnos la cqara. Cierrese los ojoss, mi amigo."

As the lake whispered, The Young Prince closed his eyes and breathed to its rhythm. He lingered awhile in the water. Having refreshed himself with a long draughted cool drink, he splashed about, wading in the wet...but only up to his knees. He had good reason to wish NOT to go deeper into the water.

    To be continued....

Keep making calls, sending emails, and spreading the word about ending horse slaughter...and keep praying for and loving eachother.

Thisgoodplace is a little bit of heaven. Here we can bring some hope and beauty into this sad scarey world.

I hope to get my puter back, maybe this weekend.

    So, sweet dreams, My Dears.

For now, I am missing you...Missing BABARO.

    Steve,
I remember reading about your BDude and want to say how sorry I am for your loss. You and your wife are such loving parents. I will tell St.Francis about Funny Face, too. I was so worried about my JunJun when his momma, Miss Kitty passed away.....but we laid on the lovin' (heavier than usual anyway) made sure he was keeping his weight up (more "treats" = canned food) and made sure he spent more time with all of us. He is doing very well (at age 19?, 20?). I hope your girl will be okay, too. You know all the right things to do.

##MJ no one is a poor writer when they write about Barbaro..

I cannot tell you the range of emotions I have gone through when reading your stories. Some of you have actually thanked me..for letting you tell me..I thought about this.. I think it is very healing, very cleansing to let these emotions out.

I know in my own life telling someone how I feel helps me understand and deal with my feelings ,too.

Many of us have only each other to talk to because we are around people who "don't get it".
I get it. I want you to share how the great horse helped you, inspired you.

Some of you say he saved your life, gave you hope, gave you new direction, allowed you to grieve for other deaths you'd never dealt with..The list goes on and on.

I am honored to read your words. I feel every emotion you do, I cry along with you and sometimes,I feel a slight swish across my face and a larger tear appears on my laptop..Barbaro is reading too.
He loves all of you and loves hearing how much you love him and what you are now doing for him.

For those who have emailed me, thank you. For those who haven't, please be one of my 75 frens to honor Barbaro.

One may bet only on the order of finish for the first four finishers in a race IF there is superfecta wagering on the race; superfecta wagering is not available on all races.

No such bet exists, as far as I know, for the order of finish for the whole field, though you could likely find a bookmaker somewhere (Vegas? England?) who would take the bet for you.

    What happened to Hawty Creek???

Hiya, FsOB! Nancy, thanks for clarifying that the Cavel TRO decision will be "revisited" by the Federal judge on 06/14 (and not a day too soon!). Tonight was such a beautiful evening for a walk. I kept thinking how much Barbaro would've loved to have been in a verdant meadow with the frisky fillies as the sun began to set.... Wishing each of you relaxing slumbers tonight. Peace, RMH

    #### To Laurie H: Loved the story about Bart's car ride.
To Skyler, please hang in there.
To Jonna: What distressing news for you about your Jessie. I know nothing about this disease, except among humans. It tends to be highly treatable in our species. I hope it is the same for Jessie!
To Steve and Linda: I am so very for BDudette. I remember how distraught my Husky Pushinka was when her brother Illya died.
To our dear FOB Lou Ann in PA: A very happy birthday to you! ####

    Hello Barbaro,

I’ve been in a bit of a fog lately so I thought it best to keep our time just between us. Emma enjoys when it’s just us. She and I spend quiet time together, and I quietly whisper your tuck-in to her. I will always remember these moments...

During the day, I check in on the board from time to time although I’m not supposed to check too often. There is so much energy and positive ideas going on here. It’s inspiring...

Rescues, anti-slaughter, research, track safety... whatever concerns your Fans bring to the table, they are ALL equally important. They ALL involve the welfare of horses. They ALL work towards saving lives.

Some Fans write on the board to comfort, some post to inspire others to a cause, some post humor, some create beautiful handcrafted products to raise funds, some work in the trenches gathering data and addresses of importance.

No one, nothing, is more important than the other. Yes Honey, except you... We look to each other, we lean on each other and we need one another.

We cry together (you all know we’ve done it), we laugh together (a lot of times, out loud!), and we celebrate together (remember the Moment of Silence on April 29th?)

***I am SO proud of everyone here and Silent. I am SO proud of everything being done FOR the horses. I'm sorry. I just wanted you all to know that...***

And you, you Honey, are beside each and every Fan. All of the time. Every time.

And with that in mind, are you ready for your blanket? I'm sure your Fans are winding down their day and getting ready for bed themselves.

Let's pull your blanket up high and fluff the folds perfect for nuzzling.

Your Dream Angels are patiently waiting and they are alittle sleepy themselves. Perhaps ALL of you can cruise over to Hawty Creek's home and cuddle up with her. Please give her some love for me...I miss hearing about her antics.

Your healing is complete and strength will forever carry you through your days.

Good night Honey. I'm in love with you...Sweet dreams. XXOOxxoo

    Hello Hope,

You know Hope, I haven't seen any current pictures of you or Little Laurie H. I think it's time I email someone about this...

If I hear that you two have been dodging the cameras, I'm going to have to request that your caregivers wake you up extra early every morning for a week!

But let's grab your blanket and cuddle you up. We'll leave alittle bit untucked so that your filly can touch you while you sleep.

Your Dream Angels are nearby and getting ready for your amazing dream vision journey.

Good night Hope. I love you so much. xxooxxox

    ###

    Hello Little Laurie H.,

I've explained to your Mommy that I would like current pictures of you two. So, if you see one of your caregivers standing in front of you, holding a little something, it's not food! Don't try to eat it.

Just give a cute little look, hold it...and then you can run off. Okay?! Nothing difficult, although my own Mother won't even hold a pose...

Let's grab your blanket and cuddle up for the night. We'll fluff the folds so that you can nuzzle your little velvet nose deep under the folds.

The Dream Angels are waiting and they seem to think that you'll be snoring very soon!

Good night Little Laurie H. I love you very much. xxooxx x (you moved!)

Goodnight, FOB's! I hope everyone had a great day! I tried to accomplish a lot for the anti-slaughter campaign. I got an email back from Sen. Corker in Tn. He acknowledged how cruel horse slaughter was. I don't know how the senators from TN voted. I hope they have good sense and a deep heart. Anybody with any kind of soul knows killing those poor, innocent, beautiful horses is so wrong.

I love you, Barbaro!!! I can't wait til tomorrow at 10:00. I am going to have a box of Kleenex right on my lap. I heard the doc. was so good. But I know I will cry my eyes out. Oh, well, it's cathartic. Hope I spelled that word right. I am a teacher, but my mind is going blank for some reason.

Hope everyone has a good night sleep! I hope I dream of beautiful Barbaro running so wild and free , happy as can be!!!

    Ciao!!!:)

    Alex,

Thank you for the little info. on Hawty Creek. I miss hearing about you two and your "eventful" mornings!

Posted by: Laurie H. in MN at June 6, 2007 3:03 AM

    ### Nina--With regards to betting the entire Belmont field, you can certainly do so. There generally isn't a bet for the field in order of finish, but you can check with the track to see if this is available. Otherwise, you can place a bet on the entire field to win/place/show--whatever you decide, but unless a long-shot comes in, you'll probably lose money.

I prefer to do an "exotic" wager and box a group of horses to win an exacta or trifecta. For example, I wagered an exacta box on Street Sense and Curlin, since I felt either horse could finish 1/2. I boxed a trifecta with Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun and CP West, meaning any combination of those 4 horses could go 1/2/3. I won both bets, but very little money, since they were all favorites. If I'd boxed those 4 to win the Superfecta (top 4 finishers), it would've meant $330, rather than the $50 I won on the trifecta.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

    Kathy S.,

    I miss him too...

Bart is still terribly thin but he makes the rounds with his visits. He headbutts with the best of them and absolutely LOVES being loved.

I depend on Bart so much during my work day. He is comfort, comedy relief, a stress reliever and he keeps me humble. I KNOW I need him more than he will EVER need me...

One of our very talented FOB's, Glenda, gave Bart a gift! It is a beaded charm and I don't know if you're familiar with her jewelry but like everything else of Glenda's, it's amazing! Very striking and so...Bart! It gives the feeling of strength. I'm taking it to Bart tomorrow.

Thank you Kathy. I always let him know that his Kathy pats are about to begin! Thank you again Kathy...

***RE-POST FROM TONIGHT ON THE DB***

    -------------------------------------------------
    This is from Henry's Mom.

    TUESDAY, JUNE 05, 2007 09:55 PM, CDT

    Dear Team Henry,

I am at a loss of words - we all have been. In general, I would say we are all attempting, and i say that lightly, to handle the cards we've been dealt. Being with Henry, loving him, caring for his immediate needs, helping him through these final moments and leaning on eachother are our immediate goals, right now. .....hence, the message on our door, the turned off cell phones, no messages on caring bridge, unopened mail, obvious disconnection from everything, blah, blah....the list just goes on. Thank you for understanding. Time has a newer meaning for us.

The vigil held across the street from our home this evneing was the most incredible thing - whoever organized that just earned their wings. This has been a big deal for us today. After an extremely quiet day in the house, we all sat on the front porch and experienced every emotion known to man. In my darkest hour, my lowest point - we found the strength to let all of you love us in ways you will never understand. jim said at his young age of 68:), he is still learning and much from this experience with Henry. He said the most important things are not things but the people you share your life with, the people behind the scenes. I immediatley thought of Team Henry.

You've all been so kind to us, showering us with love and so many prayers. My God, how will we ever understand his power?

    BELIEVE IN BARBARO!!

Cal...I hate to burst everyones bubble but.....

"FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION "is a trademark of N.A.S.A. It was used after one of the shuttle disasters...

That quote was used for an Applo mission. Appolo 13 and Gene the flight director used it. This was long before the shuttles were being used.

    STEVE & LINDA REI-
I am certainly sure you are both asleep, as most normal folks are at midnight... I just wanted to say again how I weep with you over BDude. I am now so bleary eyed thinking bout his poor pitiful sister. My Boo Boo was so forlorn when his sister Sweetness got euthanized in 2001.

I had not realized the impact it makes on an animal.I mean they have been constant companions since their development in the womb. They spent almost every waking hour together as they grew to teenage cats and adult hairy children. My Boo was lost, mournful and pitious, just as you say BDudette is. It is the saddest thing to witness.

I hope she has someone(Tony maybe?) she can glom onto. Boo glommed onto DADDY. My father became Boo's surrogate. He cried no more, except when my dad left him to go out of the house. This was when they both got very attached to each other. THAT IS WHY DAD WILL NOT LET NO OTHER ANIMALS INTO THIS HOUSE. Memorial Weekend Friday, was 4 years since my Boo. Still fresh and raw. I still cry, it will always be rough.

Bless you and Linda for loving these beasties so good for so long. They thrived off of it.

Prayers for all creatures great and small

Nina...that phrase was used again most recently on Sept 9/03 after the demise of the shuttle Columbia...as far as the space program at NASA was concerned FAILURE literaly was NOT AN OPTION after Columbia...the defects had to be corrected !!! In 2003 that phrase was used on all manner of memorabilia at NASA's souvenir shop...thank GOD they finally got it right!!!

HUGS to All and to ALL including Dora J a GOODNIGHT......
