    Barbaro Updates: 109

    updates are now here.

Update 876: Another comfortable day for Barbaro. I just spoke to Peter (6:00 pm) who had spoken to Michael, who had visited.

Update 875: A quick reminder, there is a 7 pm vigil tonight for Barbaro. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, spare some time for Barbaro.

Sue McMullen sent this report of the Racing Post Trophy:

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam is enjoying great success with his two-year-olds and has much to look forward to next season as he has now added the winner of the Racing Post Trophy to his line-up. Authorized, under Frankie Dettori, was an emphatic winner of the race that always seems to throw up a very good horse and has been won three times in recent years by horses who have gone on to win the Epsom Derby.

Run on heavy ground the first three horses home were all above 20-1 in the betting market and it has to be said that the going was too soft for many who appeared to be finding conditions underfoot just too much, including favourites Eagle Mountain and Regime.

Sometimes heavy ground throws up an odd result, which is quickly discounted by form experts, but although the winner is now being described as a 'surprise victory' at 25-1, the surprise is only to those who overlooked the horse in the market and nobody told Authorized that he was a longshot and unlikely to be a maiden winner in this race. His performance was less of a surprise to the owner and trainer who knew he had the talent as he has continued to improve. Frankie Dettori tried to persuade the owner not to run as although he knew the horse didn't lack talent, he thought he needed more time to mature mentally before tackling such a big race.

The Montjeu colt proved him wrong in the nicest possible way and also vindicated Chapple-Hyam's last minute decision to let him take his chance as he was nearly withdrawn due to the testing conditions. He heads to the Dante at York, then the Epsom Derby for which he's now earned himself a quote of 12-1. For this observer, he won in spite of the ground and not because of it as he moved like a very good horse and this was no fluke victory due to heavy going.

By the way, the winning trainer, and Michael Bell (a trainer who was mentioned in yesterday's report from Sue) both worked for the same trainer many years ago. So did I. Anyone know the name of the trainer (not very likely).

Update 874: The rest of the morning at Fair Hill was reasonably uneventful. Lydia Williams was at Fair Hill taking pictures. She has contributed some pictures to this site (Lost in the Fog, Miraculous Miss etc.).

Annie (Michael Matz exercise rider) let me know how excited Eduardo was to receive his gift baskets (we were walking back from the track after our last set). Yolanda, his wife, was also thrilled. They wanted Annie to make sure to let me know to say thank you. This is yet another outcome of everyone's generosity on this site.

On the Breeders' Cup front it looks like Graham Motion will be represented by Film Maker and Better Talk Now. Both are still at Fair Hill. Michael Matz has shipped Round Pond, along with Messaging, to Keeneland (I think).

A great day for the Fair Hill International. Today is the cross country phase, always the crowd favourite.

Update 873: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (friday night). I saw Michael as I was walking to the track for my third set. He had heard from Dr. Richardson. Michael also noted that when he visited yesterday he took Barbaro out to graze, within five minutes had to bring him back in. I guess the wind was getting him a little excited (Barbaro, not Michael).

It is looking like a beautiful day at Fair Hill. First set was a little lighter than yesterday morning given the clear sky, but only a little lighter! For the first set I opened galloped a 2yo, in company, for three eighths of a mile. His first open gallop at Fair Hill. They went well together, and picked it up nicely down the lane. No one clocked us, and even if someone wanted to, they would not really have seen the work. The second set was a quarter mile breeze, Rocky (Holy Bull 2yo) with Grandma (one of Tim's 2yos). They went a very nice 26 and change together. Rocky has not yet learned how to carry me through the breeze. I need to hussle him a little to get him to cruise, but then when I just sit on him, he eases himself back. He's just learning. He does share some of the same characteristics as Giacomo, who is also by Holy Bull. I was talking to Steve Willard (Giacomo's exercise rider) to get a report the other day and he noted that unless you really get hold of him to gallop, he tends to hop up and down a little galloping. Well, that's Rocky too! Would be nice if he shared more characteristics with him down the road!

    A C N Barbaro Jackson ! !

Wanted to say again that I'm on my way to Florida today until nesx Sat. but I will continue my calling Senators by my husbands free call cell phone. will miss posting every day, but don't have portable to take. Maybe I will have a keyboard and internet in a hotel.
I'll remember to pray for all here who need prayer,
and I'll think of everyone everyday. My husband hasn't had a week-long vacation in 3 years so this was planned a year ago.
God bless and keep everyone of you and I'll check in often. And I promise I really will be calling the Senators DAILY so down't feel that I'm shirking my duty.

Barbaro, bless and keep you. Grow hoof grow, love.

I feel bad about MM having to take Barbaro back in after only 5 minutes.. It's like bringing your kids into Toys R Us and walking right out - ever try that? I wonder if Boss Horse had a royal pissy fit..?

Barbaro sweetheart, today will be much better outside. Maybe you'll see Miss Mocha, and then you'll enjoy your "bafth"!

Alex thank you for the update on Barbaro, another comfortable night great news.

Guess the cool air and wend made Barbaro want to hop around too yesterday. The better he feels, the harder it's going to be to control him. It may take two people to walk him.

Really like Holy Bull, funny how they pass on little characteristics like that. Half rabbit you say? :) Neck strap! Did you see Man in Havana, how is he working?

I'll be keeping an eye out for Rocky!

    Socorro...good afternoon! :-)
Sorry I'm late getting this...had a mad moment and did some housework! lol

I'm looking at Newbury's racecards now and all seems normal, no mention of French horseracing.
Maybe because we've had a few French runners?

So are we back to watching the races together today? :-)

Posted by: Jo (UK) at October 21, 2006 1:55 PM

i think michael matz brought barbaro back in because the horse started to whirl, buck and try to just do what horses do when the wind kicks up, he was watching out for the horse's safety, remember, he still has injuries and michael didn't want to risk damage. that's all.

good morning all and cindy in los angeles, i really envy you being able to ride on a nice sunny socal fall morning!

Skyler, you are the one who asked me in the first place to visit the Mother Cabrini shrine .. I would go back and light candles for all of you, but I am facing the possibility of knee surgery .. know that when I go visit Bobby's Mother Cabrini web site (http://home.comcast.net/~jimiam007/Barbaro.html)
that my thoughts and prayers are also with you.

Good morning Alex...sounds like you have good racers in the making!!! I agree with tammi ..the name "Grandma" is difficult to picture winning a race...how did she get her name anyway???

Bobbycakes ..it's not the wind.....you just didn't see Mocha this morning...right??? Have a great splish splash today...don't forget your rubber ducky!!

Hi to all the FOB's and afternoon to Jo(UK) If Socorro isn't on ...I'll keep you company at the races. Newbury..will I get that race on the tv do you think or will you have to relate it to us?

Thanks for another morning of "riding" with you. Always enjoy reading that.

Well I'm glad to hear Barbaro was the one excited about the wind and not Micheal. I might start to worry then. It's good to know that MM plays it safe with him and is cautious. Before long it will take two people to handle Barbaro for daily grazing.

Have a good bath day Barbaro.

    FYI for all to remember-
Barbaro had the fastest final 1/4 mile in the Kentucky Derby since Secretariat!! Way to go champ.

I already have checked through the day...I have three racing channels but none listed UK races. Sometimes they will relate information on UK races but it is generally after the fact and we can get your reports much faster...:) Socorro has been busy lately with other matters and I suppose getting ready to come to the states...she emails me sometimes but doesn't post here as often as she did.

Tsk, Tsk,Barbaro, having seen a picture where it takes four people to calm you down when being saddled, I can only imagine why poor Michael had to hurry you back inside. Was the wind blowing those big bad leaves around and scaring you ?? I think it is going to be much nicer today, so maybe you can try it again. Autumn weather just makes you feisty doesn't it Big Boss Horse. Butterfly kisses to you sweetie.

Glad to hear that there was a little more light on the subject this morning Alex. Only a week to go and the brighter mornings will be back.

Making tomato sauce today with the last of the plum tomatoes. The windows are fogged from simmering the tomatoes with fresh chicken broth and oregano, basil, garlic and other herbs. I will put up 8 jars to use for special dinners. But today, crusty artisan bread will be dipped into the sauce topped with freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and a bowl of herb infused olive oil. Of course there must be hearty red wine to wash it all down. All my FOB friends are truly welcome today. Salud !!

    That's a shame you can't watch...

A pretty little filly called Short Skirt just won at Newbury. I was hoping for a ten year-old called The Whistling Teal...he makes The Tin Man look like a baby! He didn't want to go into the gate and the race almost started without him, but they persevered inch by inch and got him in...just glad nothing happened to him during the race!

    the blue and the grey..
    .dear alex,
thank you for the ownderful bobby update..never take it for granted--the iwnd was fierce when i left..-- fascinating experiences on rocky ..and grandam.. that sensitivity to the personality of the horse can only enhance their abilities and character developement from where i stand..down here on the ground..
i found the referecne of hoily bull very timely to my own experience visiting this countryside yesterday, a hundred years ago it seems.
.the battles that bear his name ,running bull ...fierce blood shed passionat viewponts that pitted brohter against brother and sister..
making a journey to new bolton and kennett florists..what an adventure.
.the first recollections reminding me iof the intentionality of the ancient greeks how they felt abut helaing and giving and moving things forward..through music, dace and sportsmanship
of the zephir blue mountians sprinkled in pinks and golden flowers..-delphi.
    .where my danicing heart connects..
..the circle of danicng wiht flowers in ancient greek times..where ithe form is really about the feeling and the disciline of the trainng metls into one.
.you dont see steps but you feel something from long ago and it is foreign. -in the presence of foes..nature annoints us wiht perfection and hidden streength this can also be veyr volaitle. as in katirna ,earthquakes wtc..
so given my schedule and the intricacies of those pa. counties.
.battlefiedls telling their silent stories in their trees and rolling hills. i was so aware where we all come from-.--our ameircan revolution to the first great modern epic ballte on our soil..the civil war..
the ghosts of that are in coutnryside, washed into the fall colors of reds, yellows and golds...the farmland that barbaro was birthed into..
well , the intention was to create a moment and we did wiht the superb ,caring bountiful hearted rachel and allie and all the wonderful staff i met in their old victorian pink purple house.
.let me tell you, they are so thoughtful..their flowers are blooming..because of their care to detail..and generosity
dr dean is as dreamy as you can imagine. full of vibrant energy..some coming out in a constant banter of inside nips and nabs--he an d bobby are soul brothers..
and then there is the gorgeous silence..as he lsitens. --his ==amrk of greatness..and
perhaps that is the most stunning and marks the other folks surrounding bobbylife...michale .,peter..everybody is listening.
dr sweeny is an absolute primo elf..of the highest order..gracious..as if she had not a care in the world but there is a mind of steel detail..and care. so hihgly perceptive and intelligent it took my breath away and abck.,.
.walking around the lobby seeing the beautiful outpouring of barbaro fans and the cards ..like'' arizona loves barbaro..'''i saw opie..wow. and faces to all these glorious hearts come visible..and then, tsome invisible but not and others in photo form.
.well it ws a lot to take in.
.i sopke to some of the doctors that cared for bobby during some of his many surgeries..and recoveries
..they all expressed a deep commitment to his strength and personality and considrable chgarmm ahem....
if our government was run like NBC
we wuld be in great shape..wow peace and growth and care of all critters, buig and small. THERE WOULD BE NO VOUICELSS AS IN NBC.
idid i dance? maybe..yes.... but i poured out my love for them all and my thanks..on a tiny rug the size of two nickels--the reception area will never be the same..
but at one point after i turned the sony on and bobbie macferrin was singing the 23 rd psalm .
---..i am trianed to become one wiht the environment. I DID ..THE COUNTER TOPS AND THE LITTEL STRIP BETWEEN ME AND THE ASSEMBLED GUESTS ON THE waintg room chaoirs..the super cider heated and donuts to die for..and the baskets for bobbue and peppermints..yes..one wiht the peppermints..and rachel and allie and --the dogs and the csts..on teh walls in their phto s...
..i ended up enfolding my hands around a basket of carrots and now laugh myself silly to think i did that but i was feeling bobby down the hall ..and in delphic oracle fashion ..i became one wiht the scene--and what a twinkle in dr dean';s eyes and being..
.senidng all i, to those that needed a change for three minutes..
i i cant say enough about the depth of knowledge.on the staff at nbc--.dr emma is so exaclty english..precise, gracious and very intelligetn..sharp, sharp..no dull tools around..nope.
delighted to be able to create a moment of gratitude for all the superb decisions and care that make dr dean richardson an outstanding healer..a real medicine man..
.now for the grey..or the trip there and back could have been in esconsin and london.. took fourteen hours..in the car..i had every challenge i could think of except a robbery..but in all i realize now, once agian, there is bitter wiht the sweet and i worked alot of inner screaming...only after a few hours home ,i finally calmed down..i literally flew in and flwe out on four wheels. maybe the amish have somehting oging on..

    so much for our hgihways
someone i pa. who might have had an episode with something illegal must have drawn the side road maps..i never saw such a mess. crawling through endless red lights for thirty or fifty miles wow. one could get homicidal.
in the end. it was a moment i will always treasure..heart to heart..who csres what i was doing but what i was feeling is the golden nugget..bless rachel and allie for their part in givng and making the opportunity to give.
..and i never took my leg warmes off..so i felt like a little clysdale wiht the white feathers..great..
may all dear linda h..i send you light and strength for the monet..be resolved that there is a higher power looking over eveyrone..may your hearts be lighter..and how blessed we are to meet and share in any capacity over the greatness of a superb animal and being..
in whihc the tapestry has joiuned us all--barbaro
. bottom line, wihtout the integrity of the jacksns..and the emrgence of alex and tim ..well so much would not be realized. that derserves the highest respect from my heart..
to yours--in the ight and in the dark

No, just the opposite. I am near Lake Erie on the Penn. side of the state. But, I do believe that one day we will all be together to celebrate Barbaro's greatest victory, Going Home, with a huge party where we will all bring our favorite-best foods along with our best selves!!! I wait for that day with great longing.

Good morning Barbaro Nation, ACN -- always a sweet piece of news to start the day.. Hoping the rest of the day brings good healing for Mr. B. and plenty of things to keep his great, curious mind active.

Enjoy your day too, FOB, and Alex, thanks again for your posting.. Love to hear your stories about the new babies learning. -- Best, Susan H

    Martita,
I am so happy to see you finally got to go and dance for NBC and Fair Hill. Thank you for your wonderful post. I only wished instead of having your arms around the basket of carrots, it could have been around Barbaro. Sorry about those PA roads. They're not that much better in Ohio.

My dad is 76. He is in way better physical health than myself. Of course, he never smoked, drank, ran around (oh yeah-he did run around :when single in A.F.) If middle age is 60--OMG I so do not want to live to be 120!! Alot of older folks are so healthy, and then there are some who are totally infirmed/handicapped in some way. It is awful sad. I am glad my dad is active. I am jealous that I do not have more of his genetic makeup, my sisters do, they are both skinny-and my one brother is also. Dang!

Susan E., the snow is already gone, it's just misting lightly right now where I am. It was pretty for awhile though. OK, I've had my "snow fix" for the year. That's quite enough thank you, I'm ready for spring!

It was a nice, quiet morning for awhile. Mom is out of town, my husband went to the store to stock up on his Cardinal/Husker game food and it was just me and the cats and my mom's dog. All was well and tranquil until my little Siamese couldn't find his faux furry mouse I got him the other day at the store. He started screaming. Not meowning, screaming. If any of you have or have had a Siamese cat, you know the high-pitched sound of which I describe! Still looking for it for him, but no luck yet. If this persists, I have to get in my car and go get him another one, otherwise the neighbors will start to complain.

BARB-Here is a portion of what Nancy posted late last night:

How painful it can be to love an animal...my 18+ calico cat, Princess Maizie Lee the Queen of Me-Now, who has corresponded with Barbaro on the forum, is fast approaching the end of the trail. She has barely eaten this week, and it appears her kidneys are failing. She has never been sick a day in her long life, and I foolishly let myself believe she'd be with me forever. It appears that sometime in the next few days I will be calling the wonderful doc who makes house calls to assist Maizie over the Rainbow Bridge...my only consolation is that she will be able to snuggle with her housemates Mr. CC and Hebegebe. I'm such a big baby about this...have gotten worse with age, I'm afraid.

Compel each member to immediately move S1915 to the floor in a right and perfect way, and then vote with their hearts and their conscience for the highest good of all.

It's a typo, the races are at Newbury. They will state a movie as COMEDY, I'll start watching it and turns out to be HORROR movie.

I won't be able to see the races here until 9:30 p.m, (your time - 6:30 p.m.). I am wondering if these are replays. Are you already watching the races or will the races start at 6:30 p.m. for you?

Hi everyone and hello Bobby! Beautiful fall day here in Iowa, we are almost past our peak for fall colors. Had a short season because we cooled rather fast this year. I've got a day of clean up to look forward too, leaves to rake. My fall mumms are still beautiful! Alex I love hearing about the horses you ride and Fair Hill! I guess I am turning into a real fan of this web site. AFter Bobby is completely healed and fathering winning colts and fillies I will still visit this site daily. Really looking forward to the Breeders cup this year. I feel like I know something about the horses running this year. Thanks so much for that.

My best to everyone, have a wonderful weekend. Bobby my thoughts and prayers are always with you, keep up the healing and be a good boy! Glad that your spirits are high! You are loved sweet boy!

This short article was in the Sacremento Bee - you have to register to read it, so I copied it for us. It is dated today.

Champion sprinter Lost in the Fog's ashes will be interred at Golden Gate Fields and a simple monument erected to the horse, owner Harry Aleo said Friday.

Originally, the plan was to send Lost in the Fog's cremated remains to Florida's Southern Chase Farm, where he was raised. But Aleo decided this week that his superstar should stay by the bay.

"This is where he lived, where he raced and where he died," Aleo said.

    I love you Fog

Lynda...just found this after reading that the horse was injured, causing her to jump off.

SUTHERLAND UNINJURED IN SEVENTH RACE SPILL

Jockey Chantal Sutherland was uninjured when she jumped off Actastic as the filly was approaching the finish line of the seventh race at the Meadowlands.

“I heard my filly’s leg snap, and I knew I had to jump and get in a ball,” Sutherland said. “I just wanted to avoid getting stepped on. She was running well, but I think she took a bad step.”

Actstatic, a four-year-old daughter of Noactor owned by Joseph Parisi and trained by Dominick Schettino, was humanely destroyed. She was making her 15th career start with a record of two wins, two seconds and two thirds.

Posted by: Socorro at October 21, 2006 5:36 PM

    #### martita - I've been waiting for your post - and regret, only, that I couldn't have stayed another week in Barbaro-land - as I was in your footprints the week before - visiting the beloved staff of Kennett Florists - where it not only looks so beautiful - but smells are enticing -
to be surrounded by such beauty all of the time must be a real slice of Heaven. And yes - NBC for me was also wonderful - although different than your visit - as we (Marshall and Ryan and I) spent at least 2 hours there - where all were kind enough to loan us the big tables so that we could spread out and cut/paste (for real !) and arrange our "Arizona Loves Barbaro." Am so glad you noticed and now know what we all look like !
And yes - Dr. Sweeney is elf-like and GOdzilla-like in her strength and knowledge and graciousness ! The Pennsylvania roads are, indeed, a challenge - and we got lost on many - several times with deer jumping out many times - and one was hit by an oncoming car - right in front of our car - as her 2 companions were able to fly away - and I sat and cried for a long time - and said a prayer for the sweet soul.
It was great to hear your report - and am glad you got home safely. The weather was perfecto when we were there - like it sounds today - and you didn't experience that, clearly.

Healing light for all in need - can we include my big sister, Elaine, in Toronto, who is also challeneged by a lung growth. I'd appreciate it alot.

SAfe running to all the beautiful horses today -

Alex - as always - thank you is not enough -

Love to all FOB's - everywhere - and most especially, HUGE love to my Horse of Forever, Barbaro - our inspiration.

Jo, thats a sad story! Did I tell you all, even though I have never watched National Velvet, I got sucked into watching " International Velvet" last weekend...lol It had Tatum O'Neil.. Anyways it wasn't bad, but I kept thinking about the horses.. those jumps etc. All I was thinking was, I hope no horses got hurt during the making of this movie. But I am not sure that the people who oversee that were around back then??

Speaking of which, the new movie out " Flicka " will be missing the (no animals were hurt) credit at the end. 2 horses were hurt, well (E) actually from accidents during filming. Sad.

DORA - of course I don't mind you reposting for me...I actually posted very early this am, evidently right before Alex's update. BTW, the only thing that makes me giggle right now is when our dear Dora says "DANG!"

SKYLER, JANE, BARB & D'ANNE...thanks for your kindness, prayers and candles. Soon Maizie will be joining her best boy, Hebegege, and Mr. CC, whose life SHE SAVED THREE TIMES...they both crossed the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 16. Sir Seamus the Shy, her current housemate, is a ridiculously wimpy orange tabby...he is being very solicitous of her...walking slowly near her, then running to me as if to say, "Mom, what's wrong with Maizie?" He does this repeatedly, and is so used to Maizie being ALPHA KITTY X 10 that he is confused.

SUSAN E - please explain to Lady Lizzie why Seamus hasn't been able to write to her lately.
    Lizzie's mother-in-law just can't cope!

    ######For Otherlyn---

    Re: the Belle story---

Otherlyn,I hope you are on the board today; and find your way to this message.

Even before the Belle story resurfaced on the site the other day, I was thinking of it constantly. As a professional writer, and an avid reader, I would be remiss if I didn't share this with you.

Yes, when you came into Belle's life you and great grandpa were her saviours. You both, with your unswering love and compasion, gave her the life she so deserved--- the opportunity to live out her remaining years in complete peace and dignity in an environment surrounded by the beauty of nature.

As they say in sports, your great grandpa was "old school" -- sorry to say the way life moves at a break neck speed today they don't make 'em like that any more. How fortunate for Belle that you came into her life. How fortunate for you that she lives on in your memories.

As my mother said to me many years ago-- "My hands are under my chin do your writing---"

I know I am not alone-- the world needs your story. It is as powerful as Willie Morriss' "My Dog Skip!!!

Otherlyn, write this and get it published.
It is a rare gem. It is your story; and you tell it magnificently!

I am not one who is quick with compliments. In fact I am critical and discerning by nature. You were given a tremendous gift. Now is the time. The tie in with the Anti-Horse Slaughter bill is a natural.

Excuse me for being presumtuous. It is not my intent.

If I had a young daughter, this is the kind of story / book I would bring home from the library for her to read.

The Belle story is the most poignant expression of the vanity of youth dispelled by the inextricable bond between man and a beloved animal--Priceless!

Thank you for allowing this expression of my thoughts.

I didn't get back on board last night, so I just saw you post today. The news could have been better, but then it also could have been worse. If the doctor was optomistic that's a good sign. From you post, you sounded like you were handling the news well. You will contnue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I pray God will give you peace and faith as He touches you and heals you.

I hope the upcoming wintr weather won't be too hard on you and hamper you outside time, I know how much you look forward to being outside. Sounds like you will have a beautiful day up there today. Hope you also have lots of special visitors. Enjoy you day under God's protection, as He continues you miraculous healing.

    IT FINALLY ARRIVED !!!!
So much for the US POSTAL SERVICE......
THANK YOU so much for my gorgeous wristband !!!
I love all the little attention to detail that really makes it so special !!!

It couldn't have arrived at a better time !!!
I had just received a call from my sister telling me that her husband who has recurrent prostate cancer had just been diagnosed with a tumour on his lung !!!!
We were all devastated and then I went to get the mail and there was your envelope with bracelet enclosed......It couldn't have come at a more opportune moment !!!!!

For me the bracelet represents ALL we have done and are doing for the horses but more importantly it symbolizes Barbaro's undying spirit in the face of adversity.....
I look at it and I see HOPE.....I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE..... BECAUSE I BELIEVE!!!!

    I'm asking for...ONE MORE MIRACLE LORD !!!!!

LYN GILBERT....MARY S and EVERYONE please PRAY for my brother in law Russell's cancer and for all of us as we deal with this....

Knowing that our Top Horse is still hanging in there, and then some, is quite a nice thing to see. Barbaro really has that special spirit that is truly an inspiration to all, given world conditions these days. This special horse would not be here today if it were not for the great care and devotion given to him by the Jacksons, Dr. Richardson and his talented staff at NBC and the prayers of everybody everywhere. Barbaro knows he is loved by all. Keep up those prayers everyone, and Don't Ever Give Up, Barbaro!

    Robbie in Fresno:

Beautiful images for Fog. Now I am thinking of that classic Jurney song (Linnie, our songstress, can you help me out?):

"When the lights..go down..in the city.
And the stars shine by...the bay-ay..
Ohh I want to be there...in my city-ay...
    City by the bay-ay-ay-ay..."

San Franscisco is one of the most magical cities I've ever seen. I picture Fog running through the eucalyptus groves at the Presidio...standing on Twin Peaks as the dark fog rolls in on little cat feet....gazing at the water from the cliffs of Marin County....up at the lighthouse on the Point...running through the redwoods at Muir Woods in the misty dawn with only the bright blue jays to see him...

Posted by: Susan E. at October 21, 2006 7:10 PM

I have a small story here which I found very touching, for those who would like to read it. It is from a competitive trail and endurance rider, the owner of one of my friend's Arabian geldings, who earlier this summer went with several friends to rescue as many Akletekes (sp) as they could haul from a ranch in Texas. The owner, an old man who had gone to Russia to purchase stock to start a breeding operation for these rare endurance horses, apparently had failed in his financial operation and health, his horses were essentially wild, and due to the drought the horses were starving. The women were able to rescue about eight which have found homes, and the Arabian owner kept one of the mares, which she named Katulpa. Sky is her Arabian gelding, and she also has a wonderful mule, Clovis, and another half Arab, Gam. This story is from her, last week.

    ================================================

Hi all. I wanted to share something that I did with Katulpa (wild mare) and the rest of my herd, that caused a profound change in her/them and me. You can look at me sideways if you want to, thats ok. This is kind of emotional.

It started when I was talked into going to one of those self betterment seminars. I couldn't afford it so my best friend paid for it for me telling me "NOW you have NO excuse". She and her husband and I all went. It was an intense 5 days. I thought it was gonna be one of those "get rich by doing this" kinda deals. Holy crap was I wrong!!! Anyhow...I came home today around 2am this morning and will never be the same again. I missed my horses and couldn't wait to hug them. I still had on my "fancy, out to dinner" clothes and smelled like a thousand "hugs". I walked into Gam's stall and he was afraid of me at first. My voice was hoarse, I didn't look like my "normal" self and smelled like many people. He relaxed when he recognized my hands. As I petted him he moved into me and wrapped his neck around me and pulled me into the base of his neck and held me there and wiggled his lips on my arm. He was soooo gentle. A genuine hug from a horse. That was pretty special. Next I went into Sky's stall. I grabbed his neck for a hug and he was afraid of me!!! He backed away. Clovis shares the paddock with him and dove in on me for her hugs and pets and kisses. Then Sky walked up and smelled my face. As I petted him he put his forehead on my chest and held it there. Then he very gently took the zipper tab on my jacket in his lips and sloooooooowly and steadily unzipped my jacket until it was fully open. Then he again put his head against my chest. Then he offered his nose for kisses. Sky does not like kisses. He let me kiss him until I was all done. Of course I got my hug too. Then I went into Katulpa's corral. I expected her to spook and run but she didn't. She walked up to me as if with a purpose and stopped in front of me and stared at me full on for many seconds. Then she walked up to me and let me pet her without snorting at me even once. Pets and then bed. I was emotionally drained and physically exhausted. I got to sleep sometime around 2:30 am.

Around 8:30am I went out to give the horses their grain. Antonio had already fed them hay. When I fed Katulpa, I did what I usually do, fed her some of her grain & beet pulp by hand. She was her usual nervous, tense self. Always tense and tight "checking out" on me when I pet her. Never staying in her body always ready to flee. This time I fed her the entire bucket of food. As we stood together I could see her watching me and relaxing in my presence. Her usual M.O. was to look for more...nope...see ya!. I set the bucket down and started to pet her neck. She didnt leave. She actually seemed to relax. After a minute or so, she wrapped her neck around me like Gam did. She lipped at my arm too. I was stunned when she licked my hands and nipped my sweatshirt like a mare nibblilng a foal. Even when her teeth took ahold of my skin, it didnt hurt. When I took a step back she followed. As she licked my hand I put my head on her neck and cried. This was the first time she has EVER shown affection to me in the slightest. She would only tolerate me, never letting me get my heart close to her body. I hugged her and cried into her neck. I expected her to move away, but she didnt. When I stopped crying and became quiet, I could smell her. Feel her warmth. I felt the hairs on her neck against my face. I could hear her breathing into my neck. I noticed I hadnt been that atune to anything in quite a long time. I'm not sure how long it took for it to sink in, but, I realized that Katulpa was the mirror image of me in a horse suit. I looked at her with new eyes. Like a little girl in wonderment, petting a horse for the first time. I petted her hair with my fingertips. Only her hair and only my fingertips. I tried to not even move her skin. I lightly touched every part of her face even her ears. She NEVER has let me near her ears.
She lowered her head for me to touch her ears and her poll. She enjoyed having me touch her eyelashes. Have you ever petted your horses eyelashes? Everytime I took a deep breath I felt like I breathed in a little bit of Katulpa. As I touched her she nibbled and licked on me. I have no idea how long I had been touching her like that. I got lost in the wonderment of it, in awe As I touched her I wondered how many people ever do this to their kids? or their lovers? Anyone they are close to? I haven't since I was a small child. She was teaching me so much. I knew I had to make a phone call so I left her. As I walked away she followed me with her head at wither height instead of up in the air on the alert. She looked so different.

I cut thru Skys stall to go back to the house. When he walked up to me I touched him the same way. He absolutely melted. If you would like a very profound experience, go out and "touch" your horse for the first time. Become a child for a few moments and pet your horses eyelashes. You may never be the same again.

Gesa 'n Sky, Katulpa, Gam 'n Clovis.

    =======================================

When I read this, I thought of all the wild and neglected and lonely horses, in need of rescue, only waiting to be loved.

I am so pleased Harry Aleo is keeping Lost in the Fog close to his heart and ours, here in his home, close to his groom. It is so comforting... and Susan, your images of him enhancing the redwoods and eucalyptus groves with his regal presence bring tears to my eyes. How we miss him...

I know that must improve your spirits. I love you! I will say a prayer for you today as always. I say that them at 7:00 p.m. I just kept having my own prayer vigil for you. I figured it sure wouldn't hurt. I love you!!! Take Care!!!

Every night and morning I wish Barbaro butterfly kisses because eyelash to eyelash with a horse is so very special, especially when you add a long, soft exhale into the nostrils. If you are lucky, it will be returned to you the same way and you just know you are communicating on a very special level with them.

Thanks for reposting what Gesa had to say. Lovely.

Nancy in Ct. Stop all the clocks, time is for Maizie now. I am sad for you today. I had the hardest time deciding when the time should come for the unthinkable when my 16 year ole Schnauzer, MacDuff, started to fail badly. For days between tests I just held him and petted him, more for me than him, I just couldn't let go. His eyes told me it was time and the vet was so kind and gentle. He started to lick my hand that was cradling his head and his eyes closed forever. I learned the word bittersweet that day.

Here's a little humor. Tears are streaming as I type this, yet there is a JRT on my lap, frantically hanging on, trying to kiss my tears away. It's Bella "job" and she does it well.

What you and Maizie have is a bond that will never be broken. (((((((((HUGS)))))))))

I was trying to figure out how to adjust the size. How clever is that to have the velcro along the inside under the flap?!! Hiya, Bobbey! So the wind really excites you, sweet prince? It was wildy windy here yesterday and last night. Nikita was sitting out on her deck early yesterday evening. She was facing into the wind, with her ears back, and her right front paw held up (like Lassie used to do). It was as though she wanted to salute the force of the wind. Today's been gusty and sunny. Ms. Kita has gotten not one but two walks (her definition of a great day). "All creatures great & small." We'll be mailing your Halloween card tomorrow, sweet prince. Hugs & "scratches" from your pals in CT - Robyn, Brent, & Nikita

To Maribel: Sending good thoughts to you and your brother-in-law.

On a serious note, I would like to send my sympathy to all of you here who have suffered the loss of a pet. Cat or Dog or whatever, they are our loyal friends and companions and they secure a place in our hearts forever. Only people who have suffered through pet loss can understand the pain.

I am going to a Charity Fund Raising Dinner tonight for a local animal shelter. Through these shelters, animals are rescued and given second chances to find that special person whom they were meant for. So in honor of all our Fans of Barbaro pets that we have come to know, love and sadly lost, I will be thinking of them all as I donate.

Posted by: Sally in Key West at October 21, 2006 9:39 PM

Dora...here's the story behind the picture in case you missed it the first time.

    Jo (UK)-
I appreciate the story of the jock, pic I saw had only her name, not entire story. How awful for the owners and connections. I am so amazed that she did not get hurt. That picture is terrifying, but it is an excellent photo depicting dangers of track/horses/jocks/racing.

Dora...Shelley posted something this morning from a guy who's has been posting over in the forum. He's a real, live jockey and his posts are riveting reading...getting it from a jockey's perspective is something very different and you feel adrenalised! He makes you realise just how dangerous this sport is, for both horse and rider...he knows from experience!
I hope he visits us here!

Hi everyone, I'm just working away & stopping every so often to read your posts, enjoying your banter & a question came up. I think its funny about the horse strolling through the race but then I thought what happens to her after the race. Really , I love to see them show their personality, but do the owners? How many chances do they give these beauties before they take action & what action do they take. Do I want to know this.

JO(UK)-I SAW JOCK4HIRE on forum, and read his posts, but for some reason had not caught that particular one yet. It is very interesting hearing from all walks of life from hotwalkers uo to owners. I would like to see more of a perspective of grooms, exercise riders, etc. and learn what they go thru on daily basis, yearly basis. I often wonder how attached they get to their charges. I know they would be VERY attached.

    SUSAN O-
It would probablyu depend on why they had the TB in the first place. A pet just to race for a while, is not usually their m.o. They are usually in it for the accolades, and the money, prestige and graded stakes wins. I would imagine if she has good blood lines, if she continued lollygagging around on track, they would give her couple more chances, then turn her to broodmare.

Skyler and Linnie - the flowers are just beautiful! You are both so kind to send them.

I appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers I have received her from my loving FOB family.

God love ya - you're all crazy but you're mine!

Posted by: Linda H in Denver at October 21, 2006 10:05 PM

Susan0 - Well from what I have seen, there is not really any action, other then just re-inforcing the training, they can also opt to add equipment like *blinkers* (the things on their head to narrow field of vision) so the horse is not distracted, but sometimes they just are. Nothing you can do. Race a few more times and hope that they get the idea.

When they say a horse is green, they mean it is inexperienced and has not really figured it out. Most do. But I have never seen a horse disciplined for lolly gagging. Most times, feeling the jocks whip is enough.

Posted by: SusanO in MI at October 21, 2006 10:09 PM

Susan...I guess it depends on the owner. I know that some show-jumpers are ex-racers who hated racing, and there are other things that ex-racers can do. I know what you're thinking but I don't want to go there. It would have to be a very cold-hearted person to do that...but then we all know it happens.

Okay guys, the expert on lollygagging is here!! Seems I've seen my horse mentioned with regards to "strolling" through a race. When I'ma decided she didn't want to race anymore, she just didn't!
She liked being at the track, liked training in the mornings but come race day.....well, you all know the rest.
She won three races last year and I kept thinking that she would come to her senses this year. But to no avail....jockey after jockey told me she "doesn't want to run" but I'd say they were all crazy.
Then I stopped and really listened to her. She really DIDN'T want to race.
She's now very happy in her new life as a broodmare. She'll be bred in the spring and I know she'll be a wonderful mama.
So, folks, can't speak for everyone but that's the story of my beautiful little "lollygagger"

Shelley, you're not alone with the "lollygagers"

My retired thoroughbred, Joe, was an expert at that. He was 7yo when he quit racing, and I mean q-u-i-t racing! He ran for five years and won his share during that time and I was always worried sick whenever he would run. In 2003, mid-year, he started running last, alot. So, his owner at the time, who is a friend, brought him back to the farm where my horse that passed away, Bill, lived (Joe was Bill's best friend), it's how I fell in love with him....when Joe was laidup at the farm, he was always hang'in with Bill. (Laying up is when a horse goes to a farm to rest) Then Bill died and I still followed Joe in his career, often driving long distances to see him run.

Anyway, he had that summer and fall to rest and went back into training in January of '04. His first race, the jockey pulled him up in the middle of the race. My heart fell, I thought he had broke down. No, he just stopped running. A few races followed and each time, Joe would just stop running in the middle of a race and look around, admiring the view. Vet tests were done and nothing was wrong, he trained very well in the morning, he just didn't want to run anymore.

That's when I was offered the opportunity to buy him as my friend couldn't afford to keep him in training anymore when Joe clearly had better things to do. Now, he is master of the farm where he lives, totally runs the show, or he thinks he does anyway. He's very spoiled.

I'd recommend him for Ima, he's adorable, 17 hands and dark bay with a white star but.....he's a gelding so he could only offer Ima dating advice and pointers on how to attract the guys.

Aren't those butterflies awesome. That is the neatest place over in Indiana. I never saw so many colors.

Of the kitties, only two are still with me. Ralph, and Gabriella, but Gabriella was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer and won't be with me much longer. I'm enjoying every day we have left together for now.

Cora-my sis bought my brother in law the digital rebel, and he loves it too. He takes great photos too. I love to take them, but only have a couple pentax, canon, auto SLR. I HAVE an old Kodak retina, MANUAL (ooooh) I LOVE it!! My dad bought it in the old days, it now takes evry other frame out of focus. No one will repair it locally. ? stuck. I hate all my auto focusing slr cameras. I miss manuals. I am scared of digitals...

Which kitty is Gabriella? I am really sad for you now. Gosh, all of us since we have been together for 5 mths. have certainly been experiencing some hard losses, or are about to. Susan O:

Let's see, cons for the Sony: One camera developed a problem with the flash not long after we got it. The other still works alright, but we have been having a problem with bad memory stick readers and the floppies are not reliable. The floppy disk access is slow, memory stick adaptors are even slower. We've had batteries fail prematurely, and those things are NOT cheap. The shutter delay is painfully slow. It took me a long time to learn how to take a picture of anything that was moving. I got a lot of pictures of open sky before I managed to get pictures of the birds I was actually trying to get. LOL The Sony is not a camera for any kind of "action shots". It was wonderful for my eBay pictures though.

Pro's for the Sony: They take great pictures, and I REALLY like having the live view panel on the back.

Cons for the Canons: So far, our only gripe has been that we miss that live view panel.

Pros for the Canons: True SLR is THE BEST!! The shutter delay is non-existant, they take super pictures, they are much lighter weight and smaller, there are a LOT of nice lenses available from Canon and aftermarket companies. They're much more comfortable to handle and they are very easy to use. The software that comes with them is a bit clunky, but we don't use it anyway. The Canons conect directly to our computers with USB2 and show up in My computer. It's easy to explore and copy from the Canon to the computer this way.
Sorry this post is so long everyone. I am a camera nut!!!

excerpt from the blood horse on Tin Man

The Tin Man, who has compiled the best seasonal record of his career with two grade I wins at the age of eight in 2006, will miss what would have been his third effort in the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT).

Trainer Richard Mandella said he decided on Thursday that the son of Affirmed would not make the trip from his California base to Churchill Downs.

"He just isn't training back up to his best form and I'm not going to bring him there if he's not," Mandella said. "Right now, I'm deciding whether I'll go ahead and give him a couple of months rest or just take some more time with him between races. But, with the Breeders' Cup coming up, I don't have time to have him back where I should in order to go."

    Dora:

If the lens has a "macro" feature, you can do some incredible close ups of flowers, bugs and little stuff like that. You can put the lens practically against whatever you're shooting and it still stays in focus. The Sony camera has a built in macro. The display panel on the back of the Sony is a HUGE bonus for framing and focusing these kind of shots.

    Mary and Sally,

I admire any owners/trainers who can make the decision not to play in the high visibility, high stakes races if it is not right for their horses. It sounds like they know his needs and have taken them into consideration rather than stressing him unnecessarily in exchange for poor performance. Of course, when you realize these people are always playing tactics and strategy, you wonder whether they really aim for these races when they run the horses in races too close for comfort beforehand and then have justifiable reasons for not running in the high stakes races if they don't like the "odds". An always changing chess board...

I love the Tin Man and wish him all the best - apparently they still plan to race him next year...

Cora--Come to think of it, I think that my auto Pentax has a macro feature on it. It has so many extras that I have never bothered with. I think I used panorama once, red eye reduction works Better on this camera than any I own. It has been quite some time since I have taken any of my bratty cats. i used to all the time, 2004 was the last time. I need to get camera book out and refresh memory. Buy some film, before it gets too much cooler. I will look for macro mode. Thanks!!

I would like to thank Carl and Laura Pivonka of Billings, MT, who wrote a good response to a letter to the editor of Ag Weekly, refuting the original letter's dismissal of the need for the anti-slaughter bill. If they are on here, let me say, RIGHT ON !!!

    Their letter is here: http://www.agweekly.com/articles/2006/10/20/news/letters/letter01.txt

I understand Conrad Burns, MT, is lagging behind in the Senate race, after his 16 years of selling out the Montana environment for gas and oil interests and Jack Abramoff. Reading the article in Vanity Fair made me realize just how little respect I think he has even among his fellow Senators for the low maneuvers he used to destroy the Wild Horse Protection Act.

I also saw today in the San Francisco Chronicle a letter to the editor in response to Richard Pombo's scathing letter to the Chronicle in response to their not supporting his reelection to Congress in the Central Valley. He is on the Dirty Dozen list in Congress because of his ties to Jack Abramoff, as well, and as the head of the National Resources Committee he proposed selling off 15 National Parks and gutting the Endangered Species Act. Needless to say, he did not support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

Catherine Godlewski of Dublin, CA, wrote to the Chronicle in response to Pombo's self-defense to say that, for months she has been deluging his office with emails, phone calls, etc., asking him to support the AHSPA. She heard nothing until it passed, then his office sent her a letter saying the bill had passed. HE FAILED TO INCLUDE THE FACT THAT HE HAD VOTED TO REJECT IT.

I think there are smarter, more ethical, more moral people on this board than those we have elected to represent us. How very sad for us, and how very sad for the horses who shouldn't have been in this position to begin with.

Yours for Barbaro, his brothers and sisters.

I don't have time to read all of the posts, but wouldn't you know, one of the first ones i read was Rosemarie's talking about her tomato sauce and now I am starving ! Must have food !

To all of you FOBs who are in need , I will keep you in my prayers !

Hey Horsey Gals -Guess what I did today - I went horse back riding for the first time in about 20 years -
I went trail riding on a painted draft mare named Queen- she was a good gal-but hates the mud, so every time we hit a patch of thick ,juicy mud - she chose to walk through the bushes ,
I spent half my time ducking branches- I tried to stear her out but she would have nothing to do with that mud !!
I finally figured -what the heck - just duck !

After our ride I gave all the horses some peppermints - made alot of friends today !

I read that Funny Cide came in Third- I am glad - was hoping for a win but 3 is fine too !

Barbaro - I think I am going to have to come and visit- I will bring the fresh baby carrots with the greens on top and a few other goodies ! Just not sure when I'll be able to get there !
I love you boy and your wonderful determination and spirit ! You sure do inspire !!!

Sending you love, hugs and treats since I can't be there in person !

Driving down the road yesterday in the morning mist I felt "The Fog " with me ! Remebering The Fog !

Thanks Alex and CO. for keeping the updates fresh and exciting !

You know , I spend every evening on this computer checking in on Barbaro - and my "Kitty" sits in my lap and sleeps the whole time - she is a cling on and goes everywhere with me since we lost our Bear -Bear last year. He was 15 years old. We miss him !
Love to all you you who have lost your loving fuzzy babies !

    BARBARO WRISTBAND FUNDRAISER

    Dear Debbie B,

Alex notified me on Friday that you were dis-satisfied with my responses to your communications. I am sincerely sorry my replies to your e-mails did not reach you. I did respond to both. I'm not sure why you did not receive them. Maybe I didn't hit "send" with the first one, but I was very careful when I sent the second one. Perhaps my connection timed out and I didn't realize it, or maybe there is a glitch with my e-mail to yours. Whatever the reason or excuse there is none good enough for the failure.

    Your first e-mail on 10/5, I replied on 10/6.

Your second e-mail on 10/18, I replied very early on 10/19.

I truly thought I met your expectations by my replies. I am so sorry I let you down. I have been trying very hard to have the highest standards of excellence with this fundraiser. My desire is that it will be very successful and I can present a huge check to Dr. Sweeney at the New Bolton Center.

My intent was never to irritate or anger anyone - I was so thrilled when I heard Barbaro's wristbands were going to the Breeder's Cup. I know you don't know me and in today's world it is hard to trust a stranger. But Debbie please know I am trying to get the wristbands out as quickly as possible. I am not waiting for checks to clear - I trust the Fans of Barbaro.

Just to let you know a little bit about my character - I work 50-60 hours a week. I have the privilege of caring for many wonderful animals that I have taken in, all with very sad stories behind them. For decades I have taken into my home animals that have experienced trauma, abuse, and abandonment.

I have been a Make-A-Wish clown for 10 years trying to bring smiles to children that have life-threatening diseases. You see Debbie - children, animals, and the elderly are at the mercy of their caregivers; and unfortunately some are very mean.

Every single cent from this fundraiser is going to the Barbaro Fund. Barbaro has connected so many people. Is it his charm, his determination, his grace, his heart? It is all of these and more that makes him the Warrior, the Hero, and the Champion that has captivated our hearts. So many people can relate to being on top-of-the-world one minute and struggling to survive the next.

I am sorry that my computer glitch caused hard feelings - please folks, don't let this tarnish the fundraiser that can help so many, and bring honor to the living legend......Barbaro!

The wristbands are just a reminder to keep Barbaro in our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers.

The wristband information is posted on update 94.

Thank you folks for those of you who have tried to help with your responses to Debbie B.

    With my deepest apology,
    Sharon Clark

Sherry - your trip to Barbaro land sounds great you'll have to tell me more - are you in the dscussion forum ?

Dora - If they have the calander at Churchill I can pick one up there to save the shiping !

Posted by: Julia B at October 22, 2006 5:18 AM

    Hi, Julia -

I am fine - counting my blessings as I extend sympathy to those in need right now, because both my animals and I are (knock on wood) healthy, happy and the immediate environment is beautiful. One thing for sure, this list reminds us how fragile life is, on a daily basis. Barbaro first, with healing rays emanating from NBC... Who would have guessed Fog would be gone after such a short visit here in this life? All the wonderful animals we have had in our lives... My cats wander around the keyboard, sleep behind the monitor, and one of the BIG dogs tries to climb into the easy chair next to me, hanging over each arm and butt half off the seat. As long as they can be close... so sorry about your Bear-Bear, but at least you still have the clingon. How they miss each other, too, when one leaves.

Jealous of your upcoming trip to the Breeder's Cup and just plain envious of your trip today on the painted draft mare. Best trips I ever had were trips on horseback in Mexico... an hour, a day, weeks, who wouldn't love being close to a horse. Another synergistic effect of Barbaro and Alex, our reawakened desire to get back in touch with this better world.

It would be cool if you could get Dora a calendar at the store while you're there. I know the shipping charges they are asking are high, but that is typical of many charities who are donating proceeds - they make up their costs from other charges, i.e. shipping. OF COURSE, we could always just donate the money - the whole $32 - to the TB retirement center, when we really consider how the economics work. But Barbara Livingston lent her photograph(s)...

Sherry has tossed up a fabulous idea for combining the retiring Baby Boomers and the need for equine retirement/rescue centers - you'll have to get the whole story from her... good brainstorming to help several looming problems in search of solutions.

So glad you got to touch horse today.

(like on Yogi) It is nice to have one still with you, I had him for a couple yrs. after I put Sweetness down(inoperable tumor). I am glad you have another to pet and hold and snuggle up with. They can be soooo good for your soul.

Sounds like you had a real bushwalk with your horse ride! Are you all scratched up? Last time I was on a horse was, Smokey Mountain trail ride-I am not even sure how old I was. I was young though, cause mama was still alive. It was scary, going through bushes, my horse wanted to go down fast and thru every scrathey bush he saw!! I did not care, it was the last time I got to ride on a horse. Memorable!!

I am praying for everyone to be safe and healthy, and free from harm tonight and for all nights. Love Faith, Hope and Prayers are taking us all to where we need to be. I am so in love with all you good and fabulous folks!

Here's looking forward to another ACN and ACD for today...but no getting the wind up your tail if you go out for a walk today...you're not supposed to be leaping and jumping around yet, even if you feel like doing it!

Good morning, everybody! It's bright and sunny, cloudy and blustery...it's going to be one of those days!

Did anybody see any shooting stars last night? We took the girls for their walk after midnight and stayed out for ever watching the most amazing shooting stars...two especially were so bright that they left a sparkling trail across the sky!! We've never seen anything like it and I just wondered if anybody else saw this. Maybe it was Lost in the Fog and Saint Liam galloping across the sky :-)

Morning, Jo! I missed the shooting stars last night but love your explanation of what they were. i can see the sparks flying off the hooves of those two.

Mary Kaye - I'm soooo jealous of your afternoon at Fair Hill. Sigh - someday!

    Off for another cup.

Whizz up to the top of this page and then look on the right...you'll see a link to 108. Shelley's post should be towards the bottom of that page.

You must have got pretty carried away with your chatting to forget it's Sunday today! :-)

    Hi Jo,

You think you're having a hard time finding your way around hah!! I'm so far behind, I thought I was first!!

Before I get myself embarrassed further, . . . as I did get last night in chat as a few of you if you look here, will no doubt carck (crack for those of you who don't know the Fla. lingo) up about. Until last night I'd not even realized what all of you had assumed about me!! This is my explanation to this. Click this link http://hi2winners.com/img/lj_bm.jpg
They say a picture is worth a thousand words? I'm sure this one is may be worth a few more than that. Surprise !!!

Jo feel free to email me here: hi2jock@hotmail.com since I can never find what I want, when I want it LOL!

    And I Am jock4hire

jock4hire...I'm glad I'm not alone in being lost!

The picture wasn't quite a surprise as I'd kind of worked it out for myself this morning...so I apologise for referring to you as a 'he' when you find my reply to Shelley's post yesterday! lol

Thanks for your email address, but also hope you stick around TWF/TWR...it's great to have a real live jockey as one of the gang! :-)

jock4hire - My apologies, also, as I think I referred to you as "he" yesterday. I really did appreciate the insider's view your post offered. Most of us suspect the strength of the lure of racing from your point of view but have never had the opportunity to live out our fantasy of actually riding in a race. And, frankly, at this age, I have lost the desire. (Call me chicken!) Anyway, welcome! You have already made a huge contribution to our understanding of racing.

Good Morning Alex, Bobby and fellow FOBs

I'm assuming the morning update will be somewhat later and that the Fair Hills event is still going on. I'll have to check back in later to find out how the "boss" is doing.

Are you in Florida? If so, would you mind telling me where? I'm in FL too as are a number of others who post here regularly. In fact, about 6 wks. ago a few of us met at Calder and spent the day there. I popped in Chat for a bit last night and should have asked you then.
