    Barbaro Updates: 42

    updates are now here.

Update 432: Dancing Forever won the 10th at Saratoga. Her mother suffered a severe injury, she went to New Bolton and recovered. I need to find the article that discusses this, but nice to see her baby win. (Thanks Ed Fountaine). OK, here is the Bloodhorse article, very cool: Barbaro's Injury Similar to Dancinginmydreams' Years Ago.

Update 431: Showing Up showed up, nice wiring performance! Congrats to the Jacksons. Here is the Bloodhorse's report on the race: Showing Up in Sparkling Secretariat Win. It was also nice to see the Steve Klesaris trained Diabolical win today at Delaware: Diabolical overpowers rivals in Nick Shuk.
edit: added the bloodhorse link and Diabolical performance.

Update 430: Just spoke to Adrian Rolls (Graham's assistant with the two Arlington runners.) He said it seems both horses are cooling out well. To me it looked like Film Maker ran a big race, no real excuses, a good second in a very good race. Better Talk Now seemed to be compromised by a slow pace up front. He needs a quick pace, from which he is usually held up for a late challenge. When the pace up front is slow, the horses up front also still have a late kick, which makes it harder for the closers. While he finished 6th or 7th, he was only beaten about 6 lengths for everything ad looked to be galloping out strongly.

We have a few reports from our Fair Hill visitors today. Jazz posted on the discussion board: Todays visit with Alex in Fair Hill and also took pictures. Lynn left comments below (timestamp: 5:21 pm and 7:28 pm), a quick excerpt:

I understand why people fall in love with horses. I understand why they love to race. I understand now why the Jackson's and Michael Matz have put so much on the line to save Barbaro.

Thanks Emily for showing us around Michael's barn (and congrats on Tin Man)!

Update 429: ABCs interview with the Jackson's was short but VERY sweet. Its confirmed, Bobby has been led out to graze. This was earlier reported by Jane (update 41 4:54 am):

Just got back from a week in Saratoga where I saw Michael Matz, the Jacksons and Dr Richardson in the paddock on Sunday. Dr Richardson presented the trophy for a race sponsored by New Bolton. He looked relaxed and happy and the Saratoga Special reported that during Dr Richardson's afternoon there, he was asked well over one hundred times about Barbaro and he was able to report that all was well.

Yesterday, Edgar Prado was autographing pictures of his winning ride in the Derby on Barbaro. The proceeds went to the Race Track Chaplaincy. I thanked him for being so good to Barbaro and he replied that Barbaro had been very good to him, too. Edgar did say to the man in front of me that he had heard that they had taken Barbaro out to graze on Thursday morning. Whether that can be verified or not, I don't know. But he did say that he was up there to see him about 2 weeks ago and was very pleased with how well he was doing. Edgar is certainly a very nice person and a class act. You can tell how much he truly cares about Barbaro. His face, which is normally quite solemn, lights up when he talks about him.

Update 428: Another comfortable night (friday night) for Barbaro. Just heard from Peter who had heard from Michael Matz.

ABC will broadcast a brief Bobby update (which may include soundbites of an interview with the Jackson's if they are able to do the interview) about 30 minutes into their show. They will also broadcast an interview with Graham Motion as a lead up to the Beverly D.
    edit, changed ESPN to ABC!

    ACN!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

A few minutes ago, I read this excerpt from a poem and it has made a huge impact on me. It was published in my local paper as part of a column eulogizing its writer, a remarkable man named John Mitchell who overcame tremendous adversity in a short time. The circumstances of the poem and its author are tragic, but the poem itself, written about homelessness, resonates with hope and strength that is universal.

"We make the road by walking it. Yesterday I walked blindly, today I walk with more wisdom and love, tomorrow I hope to do the same as today . . . only better."

The column about the poem's author can be found in Sylvester Brown's column in today's (Aug. 12) online edition of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, stltoday.com.

Looking forward to another massage and some of the tasty Baby Carrots, baby green, spirulina treats, and of course, my home favorite fresh Lael grass from Mom Gretchen.

    Dear "Great One,"

So glad to hear that you had ACN, and that they are decreasing your pain meds!...AWESOME, Barbaro! This is GREAT news, and I remain cautiously optimistic! "Great One," just keep nipping, swinging, resting, and healing; you are AMAZING, "B!"...With Many Hugs, Kisses, "Scratchies," Carrots, and Much Love, Donna

Alex - I believe you are correct that ther Arlington Million was the first million dollar race in the US for "thoroughbreds". I respectfully submit the first million dollar horse race was the All American Futurity in 1978 at Ruidoso Downs. In 1972 the combined purses reached over $1M, and today around $2M.

BTW, IMHO, Ruidoso Downs Race Track is located in one of the most beautiful settings of any track, nestled in the Sacramento Mountains in New Mexico.

Great to here ACN Barbaro! U Rock!

The left hind hoof is dry and is not infected. It is also being protected by a bandage/cast and is being medicated daily. There are also many models of boots available that can be used as additional protection. The coffin bone is being supported and he has not had any additional abcesses.

Considering that the pain meds are being cut back, he may very well behave himself if he was taken out of his stall, especially if he was tranq'd. He may need to be a bit uncomfortable in order to remain quiet. (There is nothing cruel about this so please don't attack me.) Just like us humans, the better we feel, the more we do, the greater the risk of overdoing it.

If the radiographs of the right hind show that the leg is stable enough, walking would be good for him. However, I am really interested in whether he is still using the sling and if so, for how many hours per day (Alex ??)

If he still needs the sling, I don't understand why they would consider taking him outside to graze. Seems too risky to me. He's come so far, why take the chance? If he were mine, I would rather have him walked inside for the next month.
He doesn't NEED to graze right now. Once he's outside it may also be a struggle to get his nose out of the grass and get him back inside. Why risk a setback?

    Hi Family,

Well I just got back from my trip to Fair Hill. It is noon. I arrived in Fair Hill around ten of 8 and called Lyn. She was off the main entrance on route 273. I met her and had her follow me to Tim’s stables. When we pulled in we met one other Barbaromaniac from the site named Louis. Louis is a lurker though so if you read this Louis come out of your shell and say Hi LOL!

A stable hand named Mike walked us through and we made our way about 1/8th of a mile to the training track. There we saw Tim, Tim’s wife and Alex breezing. Alex met us and we headed back to the stable. There Alex toured us and we petted each horse in the Tim’s stock which include a cute smoke grey chubby 2 yr old Filly.

After the tour a Filly came in by trailer for Alex to workout. This Filly had never been on a race track before. Alex mounted her and it was back to the track. There he did two miles or so of full gallop. The trainer commented that she was not ready to “run”. After that it was back down to the stable.

He dropped off the Filly for a bath and began to tack a colt I believe. We then went to the gate training area and watched Alex do some gait training. I got an unbelievable picture of Alex in the gate. As I was right in front of the gate Alex commented, “Now would not be good time for him to break the gate.” I almost needed a change of undies.

After that we stayed at the track and Alex put another wonderful novice horse through some familiarization training. It was now around 10:30 and the training day was through.

We met Alex in the stable parking lot. I thought my day was through, but much to my delight Alex asked if we would like to tour Michael Matz’ stables. We all said YES!! Micheal’s stables were incredible. They are only 2 years old and immaculate. There we met some famous horses. We met the three year old Aunt Henny. Don’t know her? Read this: http://racing.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=32647

She just won herecomesthebride to the tune of a cool hundred grand. We snaked through meeting and greeting each horse, stayed to the left of the shed row and went to the pasture to find the one and only Messenger grazing. He was being taken back in and we all petted the magnificent creature. Finally we came back to Tim’s stable and fed some carrots to old Luke (I think) and proceeded to our cars. We said our farewell to Tim and Alex. I gave Alex some beer and we departed.

We got to talk to folks to had ridden Bobby. On gal said he is like the best truck ever built (a Peterbuilt). She said “he goes through ALL 18 GEARS!!!”. One gent from I believe Michaels camp had “Go Barbaro” on the back of his vest. Everyone there was super friendly. The weather was ideal.

I took a ton of pics. Does anyone know how I can upload to the web for us to share? If not, and any of you want some I will email them to you. Just request them at rjasin123@comcast.net.

Before I thank Alex I do want to thank SusanW. As you know just a year back I did not know anything about horseracing or the love of the horse. Since I befriended her she opened this world up to me. I was hooked long before what happened to our dear Braveheart Bobby. As I stood there today in Fair Hill, I just wished she could have been with us to share the moment. I said many times in my mind, “Thanks Anela…….”

Now then, Alex it was a pleasure today. Your kindness and hospitality will always be remembered. I thank you for allowing me to behold what goes on in Fair Hill. To think I have been hiking this area for 10 years and never knew what greatness went on there. I will email you all of the pics. Please give Tim my heartfelt thanks as well.

Much love to Alex, Tim, Bobby and to all.

I was at a Grande Prix event in Kentucky last weekend and a horse by the name of Ironic took a bad spill and had to be vanned off. We were so upset. We searched for days on news about the horse and finally found out he had a tendon injury. Bad enough but not life threatening.

    Greetings, to All :

So happy to see the ACN. Always a great way to start the day.

However, so sad to hear the news about Ginforthewin. I hope his people are able to gleen some sort of comfort, somewhere, somehow. I hope the loving thaoghts and prayers from us, here at Barbaronation, reach them and cover them.

Does anyone know how BoxCar did?

Posted by: Otherlyn at August 12, 2006 5:20 PM

    Team Barbaro!

I had a lovely time at Fair Hill. I was melting into the quiet, peaceful energy that is there. Alex, you were a gracious host - now I remember why I love the British so much. Now I miss my Dorset family...a lot.

Jazz pretty much summed up everything that happened this morning. Met Messaging, Eduardo, Peter and Kim Brette, Tim W, Michael and some of the most beautiful horses I've ever been around. Their energy is so beautiful. The people at Fair Hill were wonderful. The stables - both Tim's and Michael Matz's new barn - are beautiful. Just beautiful. Too bad my darn battery in the digital died...I'll find out later tonight how many pics actually came out...

The one thing I'm learning is to obey the rules (i'm the rebel in the family). When someone like Alex or Michael or Willow tells me to walk in a certain area or to not go in a pasture unless someone is with me - I follow those rules. It not only is for my safety and the horses safety, its respect for those who know a heck of a lot more than I do. Today was more learning for me and I am loving having these opportunities to learn from such wonderful people.

Alex, thank you again for the invite. I'd like to come up another Saturday morning...probably won't be till 9/2, but I can be patient. Its a beautiful drive down and a very easy drive at that.

It was such a beautiful morning.

I understand why people fall in love with horses. I understand why they love to race. I understand now why the Jackson's and Michael Matz have put so much on the line to save Barbaro.

Alex and I briefly discussed the unconfirmed reports about Bobby grazing. If these reports are indeed (and hopefully) true, its best to wait until NBC and UPenn announce it. It may be a situation where NBC wants to be sure everything is well and under control before making it public. I'm going to rely on Alex's assessment and wait to hear from official channels. Believe me, if its true, I'll rejoice with everybody else. I can be patient and wait this out.

am so saddened about Ginforthewin. That was why I didn't feel anything when I sent Reiki. My condolences to all who love this beautiful horse...

On a happier note, ACN and cutting back on the pain meds. Bobby, you continue to astound me with your determination and loving spirit. All I do is smile - now that I've seen your world, I understand it much more. The people around you love and understand Thoroughbreds (all horses, actually). Not only are you special, but all these people and animals are special.

    What a beautiful day.

    Healing and Peace,
    Lyn Gilbert

I'm just checking in for updates and news.
BARBARO, stay strong and comfey. The sun feels good on your back, doesn't it? Although it is not official, we all hope it is so that you have grazed a little bit.

So sorry to find out about Ginforththwin.

Another Comfortable Night - Michael told Peter and Peter told Alex and Alex told us; in other words - WE HEARD IT THROUGH THE BOBBY-VINE!

From the previous update, less pain meds as well; so if he's STILL comfortable on less meds, that is reason for me to be KVELLING MIT NACHAS again.

Haven't read any comments at all today, will catch up later. (Still having tech problems with the alternatives.) Hope all is well with everybody, problems or not; and above all, I am hoping and (my version of) praying that everybody who races today - horses and riders alike - comes out OK; sound and vertical. And if it's not too much to ask - May the horses racing for the Jacksons and for Michael Matz today, give them even more cause for jubilation!

As if the Contining Miracle Whose Name is Barbaro weren't enough. (I feel ungrateful and ashamed even asking for anything more.)

Thanks, as always, to Alex for today's update. I'm so happy to know that the day when our beautiful boy walks freely away from NBC is nearer, though I know all those who are caring for him will miss him. They will no doubt rejoice with happy and sad tears.

I'm very sad to hear of Ginforthewin, and am so sorry for all those who love him. What a beautiful, outstanding boy. Rest in peace, Precious. My girls will be there waiting for you

I wrote a note the other day and haven't found any responses. Anyone here in CO planning on visiting Fair Hill anytime soon? Please let me know. I'm happy for those who have been able to visit

Blessings to all, especially to NBC, Dr. Dean and staff, the Jacksons, Mr. Matz, a BIG hug to Edgar, Tim, Alex, Brian, Peter et al and Rachel and all at Kennett Square Florists, and all my friends here. Prayers continue for you, Beautiful Barbaro.

It is a VERY nice image, though. And will they have to do it in secret for a while, when and if they do, in order to avoid the dreaded PAPARAZZI ???

Is the NO GRAZING sign for real ??? Maybe they spray the grounds with pesticides or herbicides and don't want grazing for health's sake (I hope not...).

Devastating news about goforthewin. We've simply got to win the campaign for safer race courses. Too many of these magnificent animals have been lost this year.

"There is no such thing as a dumb animal", as in not having intelligence. They are only dumb in that they cannot speak human; therefore, we must speak for them in whatever forum we can, the petition, NTRA, etc.

Your pics are great--thank you! I stared and stared at the gate closeup--the gates don't look nearly that narrow on TV. NOT a process for a claustrophobic horse or rider, eh? All the gate schooling and attendant difficulties really make sense now.

    Shelly :

I wonder...if the Jockeys, and Trainers, and Owners, who are squarely in the "in-the-know-loop" about these tracks, Arlington in particular, WHY WHY WHY do they NOT stop racing their horses there?

If that track were to be EMPTY of horses, on any given weekend, wouldn't that be a loud and clear signal that something must be done...and that the injury and mortality rate is unaccepatble in the "industry?"

Posted by: Otherlyn at August 12, 2006 6:21 PM

JAZZ I WAS ABLE TO GET THE PICTURES, THANKS! I HOPE IT'S TRUE ABOUT BOBBY GRAZING, BUT I KIND OF DOUBT IT. AFTER ALL THIS CONFINEMENT I WOULD BE AFRAID HE WOULD BE FULL OF HIMSELF AND BUCK OR REAR. OF COURSE, IF THEY HAVE LOWERED THE PAIN MEDS HE MAY HAVE ENOUGH DISCOMFORT TO BE HAVE...BUT I WOULDN'T TRUST HIM. I HAD A 25 YEAR OLD MARE THAT HAD TO BE CONFINED FOR A TIME AND AFTER ABOUT A WEEK I FELT SORRY FOR HER AND TOOK HER OUT FOR SOME SUNSHINE AND GRAZING. THAT WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE SHE DECIDED SHE WANTED TO DO A LITTLE MORE THAN THAT AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL HER, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT A THREE YEAR OLD COLT WOULD BE LIKE! IT WILL BE FUN TO WATCH WHEN IT HAPPENS, I'LL BET BOBBY WILL PUT ON A SHOW! CINDY A.

    "Heya Jazz, Lyn and Louis,

It was such a pleasure to meet you at our barn and be able to show you some of the really nice horses we have. (This is Emily from Michael's barn btw)

For those who want to be really envious, Jazz, Lyn and Louis got to meet BOTH of Barbaro's half brothers. And pet his little brother Man in Havana. They also met some nice older horses and then, as she mentioned, met the true superstar of the barn, Messaging!

We seem to have all 2 yr olds, but about half of our current load of stock are older horses that are running.

And Jazz how could you forget, you got to meet Round Pond!! (A bunch of folks over on www.rockportharbor.com would be shocked you wouldn't mention her. She is their queen bee though... :-) )

Like I said, it was such a pleasure to meet you and we all hope you come back to FH soon.

Your posting was addressed to Shelley and I apolo-

the horse business, thoroughbred business in par-
ticular, the tracks will never be empty as you
put it, no matter what is done, or not done...it
just isn't the nature of the business...there is
much more to it than can be explained here, and
it isn't just about money, although big bucks are
involved, no doubt about it. Thoroughbred racing
has been around for an awfully long time...and it
is truly unfortunate and sad when bad things
happen...but thatis the reality of racing.

It just seems that even per the grave concern for the worstening situation, simply NOT participating for ONE DAY,....in order to actually help the horses...the bread and butter of the "industry," is not something "industry" people are even willing to consider.

Just, don't load them up; simply do not enter the gates; simply tell everyone to stay home...just NOT go...how hard is it NOT to do something? ??? ???

Also for the horses at NBC that are the blood donor horses. Do you think it would be okay to also send them a present of stud muffins? If so, who would the box be sent in care of??? Number of horses?
    Thanks for any info....

As a BTW, that is our gracious host, Alex in the starting gate of Jazz's pics. The gate crew let Jazz get "up close and personal". Sweet people.

There was one horse whose rider was trying to get into the starting gate...horse just would not go in...people were patience personified and finally the horse was allowed to walk/trot down the track.

In my next life, I want to either be a stable cat at Fair Hill or a thoroughbred at Fair Hill. There was a black cat who greeted me who reminded me of a cat who used to own me - her name was Romana and she was a fearless loving cat.

To Lyn G and all :

Lyn I like your reference to the stable cats...
Ther is a wonderful horse book, by Richard Adams, called "Traveler." It is a well researched book about Robret E. Lee's horse. The story is as told by Traveler himself. He is recounting the events of the war, to his little friend, a stable cat.

Richard Adams, used the diary of Lee's son, and well as much studied horse behavior research. It is clear that, Travelor's point of view, as a horse, is very different from the human perspective. It is a wonderful book...highly recommended to any horse lover.

    OTHERLYN 6:43 p.m.

I have, personally, never known anyone, I am
happy to say, in the thoroughbred racing business
that shrugged off any part of the business from
birth to death. Of course, there are uncaring,
bad people in all businesses and racing is no ex-
ception, unfotunately. But, the fact still re-
mains that frogs will grow wings before the
    owner/trainers/jockeys will not participate...
like I said, thoroughbred racing has been around
for a very long time and there have been improve-
ments along the way...but what you are suggesting
will simply just never happen. Racing is a world
unto itself like no other, and I understand and
appreciate that the people less close to it have
a difficult time understanding the ins and outs of
    thoroughbred racing.

ALEX, ANYBODY...is it possible that the Secretariat won't be broadcast??? I have HRTV, but the 5-6 & 6-7 slots don't mention Arlington.

MORE TEARS, more prayers...for Ginforthewin and associates. Rest in peace, beautiful creature...I feel in my heart that you are romping with my old buddy, Chancellor - one heck of an awesome police horse!

BEAUTIFUL pictures - thanks, Jazz - looks like a little bit of heaven to me. Good thing I like you & Lyn because I'm turning green with envy!

GOOD QUESTION FROM A POST LAST NIGHT: "IS the posse now against the rules?" Since I was foolish enough to designate myself the "Dr. R. impersonator" I would definitely need the security ofbushels of produce.

ALEX (again)...my granddad was born in London, my nana in Leeds, and my dad in Derby...no wonder you're so incredible!!!

Save the best for last...BARBARO THE MAGNIFICENT, another great day for you, less meds, treats galore, a bath (demand a rubber ducky!), vast hordes of people who adore you. Don't worry about "home for Christmas" too much - WHENEVER you get home will be Christmas and every other wonderful day for all of us who love you. Did you really go outside? It's hard to imagine you're ready for a non-sterile environment, and also since you're a bit, ummmm, don't take this the wrong way, but rumor has it you're a bit headstrong and there might not be enough people to control you if you got "a notion." Enjoy your bath and dinner, God bless you for continuing to thrill and inspire us, and feel the love from all of us...including your not-so-secret admirer in CT, Nancy

Hi . . . I will be doing a special vigil for Barbaro this Tuesday, August 15.
Would be delighted if any of you would like to join along with me -- light a candle, offer a prayer, send positive thoughts of healing to him . . . .
Just pass the word and perhaps we can all send another ocean of healing energy to Bobby.
All your poems, dedications, and thoughts for Bobby, and mentions of all the horses and pets you care for, love, and have loved touch my heart.
Hope you will join me Tuesday . . .

One horse at a time...one heart at a time...one day at a time...one step at a time...a word here..an agreement there...can't happen overnight. The world can't be perfect, but why not TRY?

TBP, our hearts, yours, mine and the others are here united because of love and respect for ...One horse...(at this time.)

Thank you for a glimps of the industry that I am not able to perceive, from this angle. I am trying to understand, really trying to understand.

TB PURIST, YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT RACING. HOPEFULLY, SOME CHANGES WILL BE MADE TO MAKE IT SAFER WITH THE SYNTHETIC TRACKS, ETC. ALSO, IT WOULD BE NICE IF A SMALL PORTION OF THE HANDLE FROM ALL TRACKS COULD BE USED FOR TB RETIREMENT GROUPS. I LOVE TO WATCH HORSES RUN AND I DO FEEL BAD ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO ESPECIALLY THE BLUE COLLAR HORSES THAT RUN THEIR HEARTS OUT. THEY ARE WHAT MAKES UP 90% OF HORSE RACING. I ADOPTED 2 RETIRED TB'S SO I CAN GO TO THE TRACK AND FEEL A LITTLE BETTER ABOUT IT. I WISH I COULD DO MORE BUT OLD CRIPPLE RACEHORSES ARE EXPENSIVE TO CARE FOR. I AM SO HAPPY BOBBY HAS WONDERFUL, WEALTHY OWNERS WHO TRULY LOVE THEIR HORSES! CINDY A

Jazz, Lois, don't forget we saw Kielbasa Queen grazing outside...I was breathless just watching.

Luke the pony is my new friend. I did fall in love with him. All the other horses found the carrot pocket on my jeans (from yesterday...Windy and Stormy had to have their carrots).

Sorry if I seem so out of it...being in heaven does make one a little spacy...:)

Bobby J, hope your bath was nice and refreshing. Seeing some of your stablemates helped me see how you were taken care of. Saw some of the horses at TW getting their baths and they were so calm.

Gotta get ready to go to Havre de Grace...gallery opening so I get to be around Luis' work for a couple of hours. Tomorrow is a "Horse as Healer" workshop by a local animal communicator. Monday is Windy/Stormy day again - like its a bad thing...:)

I noticed while Alex was riding that he was talking to one of the horses...very reassuringly. Everybody riding there was so relaxed - lots of chatting going on.

Its a magical place. Anybody want to get out here for a jaunt 9/2? Its Labor Day weekend...I think...what a way to bid summer farewell...Alex, this time I promise to bring the coffee in EARLY.

    Gotta go. Be back tonight.

If you breed or purchase a horse, and are not prepared to follow through to the end...or, at least be able to MAKE SURE that it will complete its lifespan, even after it's usefullness to you has deminished, then DON'T breed or buy the horse.

Trying to get it, but I can't believe what I am reading!

Hooray for Bobby! Another good night (even if not an official update). Glad to hear he is tolerating his pain well. What a good boy.

isn't Arl___ track considered, well, not as safe or bad? Don't certain tracks have bad reputations? Which are they (if you can't say here, mishblok@hotmail.com) and what are the reasons? I have heard that my closest track, Fairmount Park,Il, is not good so wonder if I should even attend races there? They DID run in
that heatwave when other nearby tracks closed and the horses really acted up. It was a little scary.

Hope this is not out of line to ask.

    safe racing!

Thanks again Alex for your commitment to our Bobby. Please tell all involved how grateful we are.

And to the person that claims that Racing is the way it is, and will never change..

I disagree, like somoene else said, step by step, day by day, and horse by horse. Changes have been made to racing, and will CONTINUE to be made, I can assure you of that.

I am APPALLED, DISMAYED AND SHOCKED that they wouldn't cover a race named after the greatest race horse in MY lifetime (Before Barbaro) ... "Big Red" ... AND a race that has the Jacksons' "Showing Up" as the favorite!

Hi, Barbaromaniacs: I would like to share an inspirational verse that I found. It is dedicated to all our "Horse Friends" that have gone on before us. With so many breakdowns that have happened, I would like to dedicate this verse to: Secretariat, Ruffian, Seabiscut, Go For Wand, Man 'O' War, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Gallant Secret, Ginforthewin, just to name a few.

    DON'T CRY FOR THE HORSES

    Don't cry for the horses,
    that life has set free,
    A million white horses,
    forever to be.

    Don't cry for the horses,
    Now in God's Hands,
As they dance and they prance
    To a Heavenly Band.

They were ours as a gift,
    But never to keep.
    As they close their eyes,
    forever to sleep.

    Their spirits unbound,
    On silver wings they fly.
    A million white horses
    against the blue sky.

    Look up into Heaven,
    you'll see them above.
    The horses we lost,
    the horses we loved.

    Manes and tails flowing
    they gallop thru time,
    They were never yours
    they were never mine.

    Don't cry for the horses,
    they will be back someday.
    When our time has come,
they will show us the way.

Do you hear that soft nicker,
    Close to your ear?
    Don't cry for the horses,
Love the ones that are here.

Wouldn't it be impossible for TB owners to keep every horse they ever bought/bred until the horse lived out its natural life? I'm not even sure there's a way for owners to keep track of the horses they sell to others to ensure they don't end up in the hands of those despicable "horse killers." I think I did read about one set of owners who freaked out to find one of their successful TBs they had sold some time ago had ended up on the road to the slaughter house, and they managed to rescue it.

I know from the posts that Bobby does not like having a blanket of roses on him.

But I remember reading someplace in an article, weeks ago, that as they walked him back and forth after the Derby, he kept coming back to his rose blanket to sniff it. That's what the nice photos are from.

Does anyone else remember reading that?

Maybe he likes roses, but not the feel of the rose blankets.

    FOR ANYONE:

I just came on and there are so many posts to read ...

Can someone please just give me a briefing on what happened with 'ginforthewin'? All I know is that the horse was vanned off, but what track did this occur at and what actually happened? Has he been euthanized? I am so sorry ...

so Anna if this is the only race this horse ever wins the owners are in the hole on this one and hope the next one does better?????

Linnie - I think Arlington or Saratoga. He was put down yesterday because of his injuries. ANOTHER ONE!!! My heart is broken

Posted by: Sally in Key West at August 12, 2006 8:30 PM

Sally, War Front has won others, but I can't name them.

I honestly don't know how all that works- maybe Alex can clear it up?

I think most owners run more than once horse if they can, sort of spread it out a little?

Linnie, I didn't see/hear it. I'm sorry to hear of it, though. One is too many.

JEANETTE C - if the poem is called "Don't Cry For The Horses" somebody better explain why I'm sitting here crying like a baby!!!

RE RETIRED TB'S...have you read about the program in several prisons where they have facilities for tb's off the track? (I'll try to find the link and post it later.) The prisoners learn to take care of them, the horses have a good home...it has proven to be a valuable program for both horses & men...some of the prisoners who have never related well to any human while incarcerated have learned about love from our horse friends! It's incredible what can happen when creative people insist upon finding solutions...but there is still so far to go, so many horses left to save!

PRAY FOR SAFETY TODAY ON ALL TRACKS!

Dr R you are a super man to hang with Bobby the way you have. You didn't give up when it would have been so easy. The Jackson's--you must still be crying tears of joy that Bobby got to go outside.

I think I scared the hell out of my neighbors yelling so loud. It went through the walls--and my neighbor is like 70. But her daughter has a horse--so she probably understands better than I give her credit for.

They said that is what we would need for Barbaro to come out of this, and the millions of prayers that have gone up for him have been heard and we have been getting our miracle. Oh, thank you dear God in heaven. Barbaro, what I would have given to have seen you out there grazing! Angel Heart, we love you! And you have been such a beautiful and model patient. I know we have a long way to go - but I think I'll have my first little sip of champagne to you today, beloved baby. Congratulations my sweet - keep up the wonderful work, and we will continue prayers to you. Again, THANK YOU, DEAR GOD!

Actually.. Gorella's romp reminded me of Barbaro at the Derby... ;)

And I had a feeling that if Dr.R was out enjoying the races like Jane said, then he was pretty confident that the big guy at NBC had indeed pulled a fast one on us and went outside.. I bet Dr.R was smiling ear to ear. Like the cat who ate the canary !!

What sweet news to read that Barbaro continues to progress; I would hope with each passing good day, the prognosis for recovery grows brighter. As I am grateful each new day for all the good things in my life, I always have a special part of my heart reserved to be thankful for BARBARO 's continuing will to survive. He lifts us all!

POSSE MEMBERS - you all thought I was a little crazy when I suggested dressing up as Dr. R. Ha, ha, since I'm the "one true Dr. R. impersonator" do you know who it REALLY was out there with Big B on Thursday? ...knew that buzz cut would work out for me!

    WHAT GREAT NEWS!

LINNIE (I think) TVG is (in CT) TVGAM - I have sattelite rather than cable and TVG is one channel above HRTV - hope this helps!!

Thank you God, thank you Jacksons, thank you Dr. R. ...and special thanks to my hero, EDGAR!!! If you hadn't been so determined to stop him, if you hadn't dug your heels into the ground to keep him from moving, we probably wouldn't be celebrating today!! Love you, Edgar!!

I'm so excited! I don't care about the other races! Bobby got to go outside! How awesomely great is that!

Renee thank you. It is the fear of the unknown and knowing what happened last month.

But I have to trust that Dr R would never take him out if he thought that Bobby could get hurt somehow. He just wouldn't take that chance. And we do know that Dr R said the other day that Bobby had been trying to get out everytime someone went into the stall.

Maybe like Nureyev--he gets to go out for a bit; but then has to behave when he's in the stall. Remember he's been on stall rest for almost 3 months. Who wouldn't be going a bit stall crazy by now?

HOW AWESOMELY COOL IS IT THAT BOBBY GOT TO GO OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!! AND GRAZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There isn't one of us with dry eyes...what love will do to ya. Gotta love the Great Barbaro! I want to explode I am so thrilled he went out side and smelled the fresh air. I can see him with his head held high and taking long and small sniffs with closed eyes and then looking around. Have to go light a candle.

I think Dr Dean may have a bit of a problem - because if I was in bed for 3 months and someone took me outside I would never shut up to go out again. Bobby is gonna be a pain in the butt until he gets to go out again.

    FOR NANCY CT

Nancy, thank you but it doesn't help me at all because I don't have either satellite or dish.

But, in the meantime, I did a search to find out what TVG is and it's the horseracing network that you can only get if you either have dish or DirectTV ... I have extended basic cable so I can't get it.

BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET A LAUGH ....

Do you want to know what I THOUGHT TVG stood for?

The TV GUIDE Channel ... LOLOLOL ... and I just couldn't imagine that The Secretariat Stakes would be shown on the TV Guide Channel!!! Well I was right. I just COULDN'T imagine it!!

So, someone will have to give me a 'blow by blow' or furlong by furlong of The Secretariat Stakes race.

    FOR MIKE C ....

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE WRITE UP A "CALL" FOR THE SECRETARIAT STAKES RACE TODAY ... PLEASE! I WANT TO SAVOR EVERY WORD THAT YOU WRITE WITH THE SUSPENSE BUILDING UP TO AN EXHILARATING CONCLUSION!

    THANKS, MIKE!!

Heavenly Father thank you for hearing our prayers and sending your healing to Barbaro. Like so many others, the tears started to flow when the news was confirmed you were able to see the great outdoors and munch on some grass. The NBC staff needs to transplant those buttercups because we've been told there's nothing the matter with your appetite. Stud Muffins on the way - should be there by Thurs. God Bless you Bobby.

Wonderful news that Dr. Dean led Bobby out to a patch of grass and let him graze. It was such wonderful news that I felt a punch to the gut that put my heart in my throat, tears in my eyes, and I went to my knees, sobbing, is this what I have been waiting for all these days? If so, I'll take it! Thank you God, and Bless you Bobby!

I have a question - and do not take this as being mean - but - do they breed jockeys in South America??? It seems most of them are South American - not too many American's like we used to have in the olden days! Anyone have a clue as to why most are from South America???

Posted by: Sally in Key West at August 12, 2006 9:35 PM

It was so nice to see John Henry - what a nice gesture for them to show him in all his peaceful older age, still loved and admired. He's amazing for 31!

It was also a nice interview with Bobby Frankel - I liked his comments about dogs and horses... and it's not all about the money. How nice that Edgar is riding Cacique for him. A good match.

    - BARBARO ON GRASS - ! Remember those comments by those of us who said he possibly wouldn't be controllable once given that sweet smell of fresh air? Then remember that comment by Dr. R earlier this week that this horse is SO intelligent and knows what he needs to do and that the staff are helping him - ? Maybe that was in response to this adventure outside where Bobby just acted like the grateful "wicked smart" horse he is, outside with his pal.

And if CACIQUE doesn't win the Million, BETTER TALK NOW is another horse from Fair Hill's Graham Motion... we'd take him!

THIS IS BOBBY'S NEW THEME SONG ...

REMEMBER "GRAZING IN THE GRASS" BY FRIENDS OF DISTINCTION:

Artist: The Friends of Distinction Lyrics
Song: Grazing in the Grass Lyrics

It sure is mellow grazin' in the grass
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
What a trip just watchin' as the world goes past
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
There are so many good things to see
    While grazin' in the grass
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
    Flowers with colours for takin'
Everything outta sight in the grass
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
The sun beaming down between the leaves
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)
And the bir-ir-ir-irds dartin' in and out of the trees
(Grazin' in the grass is a gas, baby, can you dig it)

Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
    Can you dig it
    Whooo-oooh

I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
    Oh, let's dig it
    Can you dig it, baby
I can dig it, he can dig it

And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
    Can you dig it
    Whooo-oooh, yeah
I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
    Oh, let's dig it

Impressive win by Garella (sp?). I forget now was that the race where Film Maker came in second?

My 1,2 (taken either way) in the big race were Cacique and Better Talk Now. What happened to Better Talk Now? Congratulations to the older generation though.

I think I would like to send an order in for 'freshly chomped green grass' for the big wonderful Barbaro.

Annie: Next time you head up to NBC maybe you could thank the staff at NBC for the nice Thank You page they made. And that the jig is up, we know Barbaro was outside ;)

I am hoping they would be so kind as to have Barbaro's photo album updated soon. That, besides him going outside, is really a nice way to thank everyone who has sent so many goodies and well wishes! I know how we all would love to see him! We can keep hoping :)

    Hi Annie!

    Hi Team Barbaro,
I agree Gorella was impressive, but The Tin Man - WOW!!! He won at the same age as John Henry was for his second win. BTW - did you see the footage of old John?? He still has spirit.

    Janice

Kind of speechless here . . . ! Did not get to see the interview and the miracle news -- thank you all for sharing on here!!
I can only think of Barbaro and Dr. R, and the Jacksons, and the song "You Raise Me Up"!!
Also, so happy to hear Mr. Prado had a recent visit to Bobby - also warms my heart.

ACN tonight Bobby! "Scratchies", hugs, and an ocean of love always!

TIN MAN - what a race!!!!! And happy that my hero Edgar placed! Excuse my ignorance, but I'll remind you that I love horse, not racing...so why is an 8-year old still racing? I guess the answer is "because he can" but I was shocked to hear how old TIN MAN is!! Please, please, let him have a happy retirement now! You people are bad influences on my - I don't like racing, just horses, and now you have "forced" me to watch races and my blood pressure goes up, and I have to peek between my fingers...thanks a lot, buddies!

SHELLEY - I think you're right about Dr. R's comment about the big guy's intelligence...the NBC post was the same day as the now-famous grazing experience!

MARKY - don't worry about posting bail. I do NOTHING medical when I impersonate Dr. R - I just kiss B's nose!!!

Just watched ABC news (not my favorite channel!)after the races to see if they would show Mrs. Jackson in the sports portion of the news - NO DICE! It's big news for Barbaro - but it seems to be true that BAD news draws much more attention than GOOD news - what a screwed-up world! We need to listen to animals more and humans less (just my opinion)...

Posted by: Nancy in CT at August 12, 2006 10:32 PM

LINNIE - I've always loved that song - perfect choice!
...showing our age a bit, are we...or are you going to tell me that you only knew "Grazin' in the grass" as an oldie?

WHAT A GREAT DAY THIS HAS BEEN!!!

BARBARO...as those two horses said to each other last night...'you de man'

..excuse me a minute while I ask Annie from KF a question.....I did see a pic of an elderly gentleman delivering goodies to BARBARO to NBC once upon a time.......wonder if that was truly unusual....(maybe not associated with you?)

Thanks Annie for saying hi...WE LOVE KF..

Have a good evening BARBARO,we are so happy we can't hardly contain ourselves...

I'm glad to hear all the races went well. We lost power for the second time today during the races. At least they waited until I got to hear about our boy. I missed the segment on John Henry, I'm glad to hear he's doing so well. I had so many tears in my eyes listening to Mrs Jackson talk about Bobby. I'm so happy for them and for him. I hope I'll be able to come back here later and check for any new updates......Have a great Saturday evening everyone! Life is good in Barbaro NATION!

I would love to be able to provide that for Bobby, from all of us! He has truly captured our hearts...as have you all. We thoroughly enjoy and look forward to talking with you when you call, it's like we've become family.
The gentleman that you probably saw on that tape was Steve. He is Alie's husband. He delivered the first couple of gifts over to NBC, until we needed three vans to go at once. Then we all pitched in with delivery...and now we are selfish and want to take it all over ourselves! The staff there is so awesome!

Posted by: Sally in Key West at August 12, 2006 10:43 PM

I saw John Henry last week at the Kentucky Horse Park. He looks really good for a 31 year old guy.

Cigar is stabled there too. He is also very handsome.

Posted by: marie from atl at August 12, 2006 10:44 PM

Believe me, we have asked just to peek at him...we promised to be so quiet he wouldnt even know we were there....but he is in ICU, and just like "people hospitals" only family are allowed to visit. When he is moved to a "regular room" we will ask again. We don't want to pester too much, they are very aware how badly we'd like to see him!

Last night we were discussing a possible bulb garden to honor Barbaro. I am not sure who mentioned it from KF that NBC staff wanted to plant some bulbs to come up in the spring. Do you think that we could gather bulbs from all over the world and send them to you guys to deliver to NBC. We could even have a dedication plaque made to be placed in the garden honoring Bobby. I'd like to send you a couple of bulb planters and some garden gloves to be included in the delivery. I know that you are very busy and I wouldn't want to ask you guys to take on more work. Is this an idea you all would be interested in?

    thanks

    Sharri,
Rachel and I were talking about the bulb garden idea this morning and we love it! I think it is very do-able and we are happy to do anything we can....including getting some garden gloves to put in. Apparently someone emailed us at the shop to ask how to send some bulbs that were currently planted. I suggest this: dig them up and put them in a paper bag in the darkest and coldest part of your house, like the basement. In about a week check them to see if you can feel any moisture when you touch the bulb. Once you can no longer feel moisture, pack them in a paper bag before putting them in a box to mail. The reason for this is that bulbs that have any moisture will mold really quickly, and then will not be usable.

Thank you Alex for posting the info today about the possible interview with the Jacksons. I knew I would not be home, so I set my tape according to your directions (30 min.s into the show on ABC). I run home to watch and then when they said he had been outside, I started to cry. I am so happy for everyone! I never would have thought I would hear such good news. Go Barbaro! We will continue to pray for your recovery as this is not the time to stop.

Looks like Dr. Dean heals both the body and spirit. You just know he wouldn't trust anyone but himself to take (((Bobby))) outside for the first time. The look on Mrs. Jackson face was beautiful. She was so proud of her "baby". After the tears at hearing about (((Bobby's))) outdoor adventure my next thought was "I hope someone was taking pictures"...lol.

Another Barbaromaniac suggested that we also include some other plantings so that the garden would have things flowering all summer. Do you think that would be possible too. If bulbs come in from Barbaromaniacs who post to this site, this could turn out to be a huge garden.

I think that is a beautiful and thoughtful idea. It would personalize it from each of you and the staff would have such a fabulous memory of the outpouring of love during this time for years and years! You are right the potential for acres of garden is definately there!

Do you suppose they have all the NBC staff who work around Bobby sworn to secrecy?? Is is time to break out Alex with his raincoat?? Do you suppose HE'S sworn to secrecy, too? Alex, if you have GREAT secrets like these, you're forgiven...

Everyone will have a smile on tonight, but we won't forget the candles.

    Huzzah and hallalujeah - !!!

Think back to the comments from NBC lately when it was mentioned how Bobby wnated out of his stall everytime the door was opened. I wondered then if "cabin fever" was beginning to be a problem.
    OMG- Bobby went outside!
The Jacksons were beaming...just absolutely beaming!!!
Thanks to all I know it is still baby steps...but

The best day ever....I "lurk" and enjoy, but our baby is the best ever...my heart is jublilant with the information...I have only posted twice, but I lite a candle twice a day for the "continued protection and healing of Bobby"...so many special souls here and the most special soul is Bobby...he can do it and he proves it everyday...I, too, am looking for him smartly prancing out of NBC...with a smile on his face...that says...ya...see...we did it together...he is that smart and so loved...

Posted by: learntoletitgo at August 12, 2006 11:55 PM

Not to throw water on all of you. I think it is great news about Bobby too..

BUT please realize that he is NOT out of the woods yet. This is just one small step. Lets not call it a miracle until he is able to leave NBC. He is still in serious condtion and anything could change. we saw that with the Laminitis.

Some of you are acting like this is a Huge Miracle. crying and all that. come on.. be greatful he was able to go out to get some fresh grass (and the area was righ outside the building).. but it is still too soon to call this a "miracle..

I would just hate to see you get your hopes up and a set back comes. It could still and you must understand that.

I am happy he has come this far, but I also understand that things could still go the other way. he still has MONTHS of healing yet..

    Cool down..

I for one will be here for each and every step on the way. You do not have to remind us of the possibilities - we know. Should we not celebrate with the Jacksons? As laughter is a boost to the immune system for the sick, so is joy a boost to the soul. In the midst of our tears of joy you must realize there are thinly veiled layers of anxiety and fear, and the joy does not remove that. It only helps us endure.

No worries. This is a very emotional step for Barbaro fans to know he was able to get out and graze. It is such wonderful news, but staying in tune with reality for some is a protective stand in case something goes wrong - as when Bobby developed laminitis and the press conference. Folks are protecting themselves by thinking of all possibilities, both good and bad. It is ok to relay feelings of "carefulness" and ok to relay feelings of true miracles.....both are good and in tune with what is happening with Bobby. Yes, was great for him to graze and it IS A MIRACLE for sure.....lets keep praying.....ok, that was a mind full.....I think I will watch the movie "Racing Stripes" now. Thanks Shelley A for telling me about it - can't believe I never watched it before!!!

SALLY IN KEY WEST - The Tin Man is 8 years old, and ran a h**l of a race. Not being a racing fan (just a horse fan), I never knew horses raced that long...and hope he will have a happy retirement after his tremendous accomplishment today.

I ADD MY VOICE TO THE POSITIVE THINKERS HERE...many of us knew precious little about horses when we started this marathon on Preakness Day, but we've learned much and know there are miles to go and danger at every turn. HOWEVER, positive thinking just for this day, just because of this news, hurts nobody and may indeed actually HELP Barbaro...if you believe in some kind of higher power/cosmic energy, then our positive thoughts are part of TODAY'S miracle named Barbaro!

I kept having a feeling all last week that he was going outside, how is that? I think just hearing how he was trying to lean out of his stall lead me....to think, this is such an unnatural situation for this horse, they have to do something to help him re-establish his horse/animal personna. Good for NBC for arranging it, they're as smart as he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody know where they saw it on the news, a website?

DEB G - Racing Stripes is so much fun!!!
I agree heartily with your comments - while I'm still shaking with joy, I always do what I call "pulling on my own reins" in acknowledgment of the long and winding road yet to come.
BUT IT FEELS GREAT to close my eyes and picture Dr. R. holding our boy, easing him out the door, maybe a few words about proper behavior...and Barbaro just feeling the sun on his beautiful body - what an image!!
Hoping and praying for many more wonderful days to come!

We are his chosen Angels to carry him through this, and Dr.R and the Barbaro team are the leaders. I cried I will continue to cry for everything good he does and for all setbacks if there will be any, no matter how small or big. He has my heart and emotions.I love that wonderful horse and he knows it, and feels it from all of us. Go Barbarooooooooooooooooooo!

My heart fluttered when I read that Barbaro was outside to graze. Stunning to say the least given all he has been through. The words to describe this are: Amazing. I can't even begin to imagine how he felt getting outside - I would have loved to see that! (throwing popcorn all over the place)

Posted by: Deb G. at August 13, 2006 12:33 AM

Funny you should say "Hats off to you" because I am sitting here with my Barbaro hat firmly planted on my head! LOLOL

There is no doubt in my mind, heart or soul that Bobby will run again ... it's up to the Jacksons as to WHERE he runs but HE WILL RUN AGAIN! And if HE wants to race again, he will MAKE THAT KNOWN to the Jacksons the very same way that he tells the Dr. R, etc. that "he wants back in his sling."

Here's what I feel deep down in my soul ... the "humans" aren't going to dictate to BobbyJ ... HE is going to dictate to THEM as to what HE wants and where HE wants to run and it's up to THEM to listen and comply!!!

THIS BOY HAS JUST BEGUN HIS STORY ... STAY TUNED FOR BOBBY'S "CALL" ... AND IT WILL BE LOUD AND CLEAR AND BOLD AND UNMISTAKABLE!!!!!!!

Many of us saw the interview with the Jaclson's. They were beaming! I for one could not be happier for them right now.

Posted by: marie from atl at August 13, 2006 12:40 AM

Nancy, you got it just right. What an image. And I can't wait for the movie... I just keep hoping there is a closet journalist on the NBC staff or in the pocket of Dr. R who is video taping Big B's progress and these incredible steps...

On another tack, speaking of degrees of celebration, I had to laugh when I read the Bloodhorse article Alex referenced above on Showing Up's victory today, when they mentioned that he beat Tin Man's time in the Arlington Million over the same track by 1-1/5 seconds! Now, is that any way to talk about an 8 year old versus a 3 year old??? And they did say on TV that the Arlington had slow times, which is why Tin Man won. That's racing, I guess - but I'm curious whether that implies that Showing Up could have won the Arlington Million? Now there's a picture, even though I also line up in appreciation of the older generation!

And Linnie, your shouting just makes me giggle. You go, girl - don't let anybody get in your way! Somebody's got to be out front...

    Peace AND Joy.

Sally, what is "Racing Stripes" about??? Obviously racing, but what else can you tell me about it? Thanks!!

    Hooooorah,for The TinMan!!

Yes I was rooting for him. Like Barbaro,he had to battle injury and came back, to show them all post to post.

In my opinion, 8 years old and still racing is not "O L D " at all. He is in his prime, and should be racing. 4 years old is the best age to start. Their bones are strong, they have had extended training, and they are smarter. I remember watching Forego, older than the reat of the field, and carying all that weight. What a thrill!

It was a happy day for The Tin Man and for the Todds.

I seems that they are very proud of him. I hope that they are like the Jacksons, and will keep The Tim Man. I would hate to think of him going down the racing chain into oblivion or worse. He is a gelding, and can't be "used" for stud fees. How will he "earn his keep" in the racing "industry" once he stops racing? What will be his fate?

Lord, please shed your grace upon the Todds. Let us all be able to Google The Tim Man, 15 to 20 years from now, and find photos of him happily grazing in a pasture of sweet clover, loved and valued until the end of his natural life here on earth. Amen.

Racing Stripes is about a zebra who thinks he is a race horse. It starts out as the zebra as a baby and goes from there. It is very heartwarming. There is a particular part of the movie where they are training him to use the gate - it was actually very interesting. I learned alot! I love it and will proably watch it again.

    Hello Family,

For those just logging on. Scroll way up and read about my visit to Fair Hill today with other members of the site. Then scroll down to find the pics I took. They are wonderful.

As far as grazing. As I strolled through the green pastures of Fair Hill with Alex by my side today, we discussed this. He said he would only post this when the time was right. I guess it is right.

    Bobby continues his wonderful recovery!

Much love to Team Barbaro, Alex, Bobby and all.

OK ... I HAVE TO ROOOOOOOOOARRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

I AM OVER THE TOP WITH JUBILATION AT READING OF "SHOWING UP's" WIN IN THE SECRETARIAT STAKES .... BUT I HAD NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER THAT HE WOULD WIN!! I POSTED TO THIS EFFECT JUST THE OTHER DAY!!

I WAS GOING TO BET ON HIM TODAY, BUT I REALIZED FOR MYSELF THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY FOR ME AT ALL ... I JUST WANTED TO WATCH HIM WIN!!

UNFORTUNATELY, I WASN'T ABLE TO 'SEE' THE RACE LIVE, BUT IF SOMEONE WHO DID SEE IT CAN GIVE US A DETAILED DESCRIPTION, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT MORE THAN YOU KNOW.

WAS IT WIRE TO WIRE? DID HE BLAST OUT AND MAKE A RUN FOR IT TOWARD THE FINISH LINE?

WAS IT TOUCH AND GO BETWEEN HIM AND OTHER HORSES?

    DID HE WIN HANDILY?

    PLEASE I NEED DETAILS, PLEASE!!

ALSO, IF THERE'S A LINK TO DOWNLOAD AND WATCH THIS RACE, PLEASE, PLEASE POST IT. SECRETARIAT IS MY MOST BELOVED, AND SHOWING UP IS OWNED BY THE JACKSONS AND A 'MATE' OF BOBBYJ ... WHAT MORE COULD IS WANT OR ASK FOR EXCEPT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THI8 RACE, PLEASE?

ALEX? MIKE C? NANCY IN CT? ANYONE WHO WATCHED THIS RACE ... PLEASE GIVE ME ALL OF IT!! THANKS SO MUCH... I LOVE ALL OF YOU AND I AM SO THRILLED BY THE EVENTS OF THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS ...

YEAH, SHELLEY! Of course I'm thrilled for the Jacksons and Showing Up was awesome...but The Tin Man was no slouch, either...and he's 8 years old!!! 1 1/5 seconds with a 5 year age difference is NOTHING! And while I'm not happy to learn (just today) that horses still race at that age, THE TIN MAN deserves all the accolades he gets! I guess the pace was considered slow, and his trainer commented that "I was waiting for someone to challenge him and nobody did." I think they underestimated Tin Man because he's a little "long in the tooth." Let's hear it for a great (and safe!) race - c'mon, Posse, join in:
    HIP, HIP, HURRAH!!

Barbaro, words fail. I am in awe of your spirit and grace. Every single person around you has these same traits, it's no wonder.

Good night sweetness. I hope you have a peaceful sleep filled with healing. Tomorrow another great day awaits you. The miracle continues.

Tonight on the way home from dinner, clear out of the blue, my 4 year old daughter said she wanted to make a wish and she wanted to tell me what it was. I told her that she had to keep it to herself, but she insisted that she tell me.

She said "I'm wishing for a pet." to which I replied "You better wish hard (because we already have a dog)". She added "It's a boy pet", you want to know what kind? I wish for Barbaro".

I wish for Barbaro too Madison, we all do. Here's to hoping wishes come true.

I too was rooting for Tinman, I'm really happy he won, felt a bit like a traitor because of Edgar, but I think Tinman deserved it.

Still walking on clouds over the news about Bobby going outside. You're right, words can't even express. God is so good!

Bobby, continue to heal and rest comfortably. May God continue to heal and fuse those bones, grow you hoof, keep your other hooves healthy, and keep you free from infection. I pray that each day will be better and better for you. I am believing and expecting more good reports tomorrow. You are a true chammpion in every sence of the word!

Posted by: Susan in TX at August 13, 2006 1:06 AM

You all misunderstood what I had to say. I also rejoiced upon hearing Bobby got to step outside to get some grass.

I am just saying some of you are treating this as a Holy moment, Hallejuh.. talking about crying and yelling . I can see you being happy but why post all that to the board?? I would not want to share that kind of information.

I just want to make sure you all understand that yes this is great! I see some of you do! but he still has a long way to go!!

I believe I will go to the other forum as some of you are down right cruel with your remarks. Keep it up and Alex will shut this comment section down again!!!

Posted by: Marie at August 13, 2006 1:06 AM

Just got in from work. Dunno where to start first!

Alex, thanx for all the good info. Congrats to Showing Up!

Shelley A. lit candle for Mr Boxcar and hope all goes well in the race tomorrow

I am goggle eyed at the news that our baby was outside grazing. Now isn't that great news?
I'm sure if the staff at NBC didn't feel it would be good for him, they would not have done it. We have to trust that because they work with him every day and night, they know what the limits are.

In my humble opinion, it never hurts to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord". We all know that our Barbaro has a long road to go, but each tiny step is a step along that road, and wouldn't we be a bit ungrateful not to be happy at each tiny step?

Dearest sweetest Barbaro. You are awesome!! But you already know that, right? I just bet you're full of brio, getting a bath, going outside to graze, a massage and lotsa goodies to nibble on.
    You've earned 'em, babycakes!

Have a good night, sleep well, dream happy dreams. See you in the morning to sing our song.
    Luv you!

Hey Bobby-You went out to graze the other day! Yihaaaaa!! That is FANTASTIC NEWS!!!! I can imagine what that did for your mind & body. I'm so happy for you, Big Boy, that I can barely contain myself. Did anyone take any pictures? The weather has been so beautiful too -- what great news! I hope you had a great bath today & are now feeling nicely soothed for a relaxing night in the straw. I'll be hitting the hay myself very soon. May God bless, protect, and continue your wonderful progress, as I know He will. See you in the morning, Sunshine! I send you some gentle nuzzling. I always enjoyed nuzzling my horses.

I agree with what has been said about the Grazing. ITs FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

First: when I think of the horrible look on Dr R face a few weeks back at the press conference, well..we all know how we felt.

Now, when I think about him actually making the decision to allow him outside to feel the air on his face and see the sky,..Dr R must have been elated. Giving Bobby this chance to see and remember what his ultimate goal will be, is wonderful.

Mrs Jackson was like a mother who just witnessed her child's first step! She was positivley joyful. And if any one has been prudent in their prognosis, it's them....they know.

Personally, I dont think it would really be in BJ's best interest to race again..but maybe some of those Little BJ's running around at Lael.....thats what I think we may be getting closer to now!!!!!! Yessirrreeee Bobby...A house, a wife, and some baby Bobby's!!!!!

    Team Barbaro!

What a week we've all had, yes? Not only did Showing up..show up...

but our bobby J got out in the sunshine. The weather here in Chester County is PERFECT!!! I can close my eyes and see Mrs. Jackson glowing. She looked quietly ecstatic...some people like me couldn't say anything...others whooped for joy.

Like Alex said to me earlier today - its been a very good week here. I'm still soaking in the beauty and peace of Fair Hill. I've decided when I retire, I want to be near animals...lots of them.

I was at an exhibit opening tonight in Havre de Grace. The gallery owner and his mom asked about B - gave them the updates, the great news that he is now grazing. They also send their prayers and good wishes for B.

Dr R. you continue to amaze me. Thank you so much for your dedication, skill and faith in B.

Mr & Mrs. Jackson, savor this moment. I can understand now why some people are so passionate about horses.

Alex, Tim, Kim, Peter, Eduardo, Messaging and anybody I forgot...it is so beautiful at Fair Hill. Thank you again for your hospitality. I'll be back.

KF, keep up your wonderful work.

Barbaro Nation, just for today, we can celebrate. This joy brings us together and builds more support, more hope, more prayers and more healing energy.

Now why can't world leaders learn from this????

Sweet Bobby J, its bedtime now. You'll be outside soon with Dr. R. to enjoy this beautiful weather. The nights are great sleeping weather now and the sunshine isn't too intense. You're clean, fed and hopefully will get one more scratchie before going to sleep.

    Healing and Peace,
