Fathers Day
Fathers day is a day for dads to be recognized for the responsibilities they undertake during the years that their children are raised and the continued support they provide throughout their lives.
It is a time for families to bond and enjoy each other's company and for fathers to reflect on the influence they have had on their children.
The recent father's day celebration coincided with one of our horses making its career debut.
The owners of the horse are a father and son partnership that share the passion for horse racing. They go to great lengths to bolster their relationship through their horses. Walter and Ron Simak have been stoic patrons of our stable, and with their horses see the prospect of many happy racing days together.
Although the horse that raced on sunday is a son of Horse of the Year Skip Away, he unfortunately raced like he was a mere reflection of his champion father. Off spring obviously can disappoint and this horse could certainly do with some fatherly advice on how to step up to the plate and perform to the best of his ability. Skip Away was a blue collar horse that outperformed his own pedigree and captured several top races like the Breeders Cup Classic. His performance at stud has been very consistent with producing stakes winners and many 'hard knocking' horses, but no major racehorse to date.
Walter and Ron's son of a champion never displayed any of the traits that you hope are passed along when breeders select which stallion to send their mare. However, since it was only his first start of his career, it is likely he should improve on the experience. Maybe the next time he races we will enjoy the spectacle of a son looking more like his father!
Getaway Car's sire was a great champion but don't slight his dam, Vibrant Future. Vibrant Future raced 29 times and won 10 of those races, a great record by a great racehorse.
The breeders who own Getaway Car's 1/2 brother and 1/2 sisters are hoping he represents the family well.
